"Situated next to a gas station, this Southside charmer brings farm-fresh ingredients and inspiration to Caribbean cuisine. Launched by two local farmers and chef Keisha Griggs, one of the masterminds behind the Black Chefs Table dinner series, the restaurant serves dishes like pelau, Trinidadian doubles, curry goat and shrimp, plus a host of breakfast items, like breakfast tacos, Island Shrimp and Grits, and a French Toast Fete platter that comes with eggs, a breakfast protein of your choice, and grits or breakfast potatoes." - Megha McSwain, Brittany Britto Garley

Service was quick and food is fresh, chef designed and so rich & delicious. We had the vegan version of the braised ribs and a vegan jerk chicken samosa. Both were so good and the samosa was huge. Store shares a wall with a convenience store but the quality is top notch! Also they have a store made tea that is so very good.

Its said that you cant have good things in the hood. I believe this owner is out to prove the world that a NICE successful business can be present here. The food tastes like its made with mother's recipes. Eggs well seasoned, not that plain stuff you see at most newer restaraunts these days. Grits very flavorful and not watered down. They taste like a true southern grits. The sausage was hand pressed instead of frozen and cut. You can really appreciate the care given to the quality of the food. While I dont care too much for alternative options like vegan eggs, plany based milk, and etc, its nice for the options to be available to those who do. We don't have many places like that in this area! The owner personally extended her hospitality to every one who entered. If she is reading this, I hope she takes this next note serious. I was encouraged to buy the rum cake with my wife present. She should have told me to buy a minimum of 2. Now my wife and I are fighting over it... Also let the french toast soak another few seconds(thats a personal preference but perhaps could work for more people). Thanks!

Tucked on the side of a Valero gas station, but don’t be fooled by the outside. This is a true gem in Sunnyside. What a remarkable place that stands as a culinary beacon for the community at large. The only coffee shop on the block, I read, too. The ingredients are fresh, curated in a way that really stands out. The flavors are delightful, packaging Caribbean food in portions that your family would want you to eat. For the full story of this place and its owners, Google Houstonia Magazine and Kuji Kitchen. What an absolute delight to support this establishment. I will come back and bring more friends!

Google
Vibe- This is a cute restaurant that’s black and woman owned! They offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, and coffee too. There’s about 6 tables inside each with about 2-4 chairs (seats). My favorite part was all the green plants around the restaurant. Customer service- Great! Everyone I encountered was kind and helpful. I got to meet one of the owners, ; she was super sweet! Food/drinks- I ordered the chai tea latte with oatmilk and vanilla syrup. To eat I got the breakfast sando with vegan sausage, egg, and cheese. The prices are impeccable :) Parking- There’s about 7 spots in front of the building.

I never knew this place was here. They told me they opened in February. The outside is easy to miss but they are working to get a sign. The inside is very nice and clean. They offered me suggestions since I said it was my first visit. I got Jerk chicken, African soul rice and Gullah greens. The chicken was amazing. Tender and full of flavor and the sauce was delicious. The Gullah greens are now my favorite veggie side dish and I want more. I didn’t much care for the rice but that is not their fault it was just something I wasn’t fond of. I will definitely be back to try the shrimp that is getting such good reviews or the curry goat.

Google
Wow! Just wow! Every dish on the table was completely devoured! The meal was outstanding, from the fried chicken to the shrimp and grits, the Jersey chicken, and the island pepper shrimp. I'd give it 10 stars out of 5 if I could! All the side dishes were so delicious they had us licking our fingers.

Google
The food smell great, my friend gave it a 8 and I'd have to go 7 1/2 its was a Lil too salty for me. We got Jerk chicken, sweet potatoes & cabbage. Everything came with it'd on juice, which was surprising. And the bay leafys was too much in cabbage had a time picking those out. The jerk sauce was off & the chicken was a Lil too brunt. But the ideal of different Jamaican style dishes is there.

Google
Kuji Kitchen is a nice, new restaurant not far from home. My shrimp plate was delicious. I really enjoyed the seasoned veggies and the potato, chickpea mix. I'll definitely return here to try something else. The prices are reasonable, service is timely and the owners/staff are welcoming.

Yelp
We came here for a Saturday morning breakfast and had such a great experience. It was such a cute place, and the menu is really extensive so we got iced coffees, breakfast tacos, and the breakfast platter. The booths are decorated really cutely and everyone inside was very kind and attentive. I'd definitely recommend!

Yelp
New-ish Restaurant Alert There is a new hidden gem in the heart of South Park called Kuji Kitchen. One chef and two farmers have come together to bring forth this Caribbean style coffee shop and restaurant. They offer coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner. So far I have tried their breakfast (The French Toast Fete and Granny's Pancakes) and was definitely satisfied. The french toast was EVERYTHING!! It almost tasted like a creme brulee french toast. It had the perfect caramelization and sweetness to it. The pancakes were fluffy and just delicious! The potatoes had the right flavor and texture. Even the scrambled eggs were good and seasoned. I cannot wait to come back and try that salmon burger. The prices are so reasonable as well. They will definitely be getting all of my coins. Let me not forget to mention the vibe which was very laid back and casual. The staff were very friendly and inviting. The music selection was great. Smooth jazz was playing one day and RnB another time. They even have a station with free books for children. Most importantly, it is black owned. Please support this local business! 8601 Martin Luther King Blvd Houston, TX 77033

Yelp
I can't say enough about Kuji Kitchen, its owners and staff. The vibe in the quaint restaurant and coffee spot is eclectic and relaxing. Everything about Kuji Kitchen is warm and welcoming. I absolutely LOVE the owners Kierra and Ivy who are a breath of fresh air and simply AMAZING!!!!!! They are a great asset to the community with their intellect, creativity and vision. If you haven't visited Kuji Kitchen, you should definitely give this spot a try and check it out for yourself. Now don't stop there, you MUST checkout their other business called Fresh Houwse Grocery right up the street from their restaurant. They offer an array of fresh fruits, vegetables, bread such as Spelt loaf, honey, bee pollen and so much more. If I remember correctly, some of their menu items come from their farm and you can tell the difference in their food. AND...the prices at both establishments are beyond reasonable ...so what are you waiting for???!!! Go check them out TODAY!!!! The icing on the cake...both establishments are owned by two beautiful BLACK WOMEN!!!! They are so intentional with their vision and mission to eradicate food deserts in our communities. They are purpose driven and selfless in how they move and operate on a daily basis. They're not just talkin' the talk but they're WALKIN' the WALK!!! Y'all need to check them out no matter your race, ethnicity, etc., go and experience what I've experienced, you won't regret it!

Yelp
What an experience! Black female owned...prime location...the food...the Afro beats playing in the background were perfection! The welcoming emeralds, mahogany, gold accents with a mix of modern and vintage created a warm and cozy environment. I had the French toast with eggs, bacon, breakfast potatoes and I added seasonal fruit. The iced spicy tumeric latte was top tier. The ladies are great and service was fast. They have coloring pages for the kids and a few African American artisan items for sale. If you need a quick bite to eat, somewhere to work, or catch up this is definitely a must!

Yelp
Just ordered on Uber eats . Received the "jerk chicken plate" for 15$. I would expect the chicken to be actual chicken breast and thigh for that price . ---Nope! It's actually jerk chicken wings (like the size you would get at wing stop. Why not label the menu item "jerk wing plate". This is super misleading and frankly for the price it's a rip off. The jerk spice is super weak (I've been to Jamaica and had the real thing) and the rice is super dry. Cabbage is tasteless. total disappointment. I equate this mess of a meal to what a Texan experiences when they try Mexican food up north. ---Utter shock and bewilderment at how something could be made so wrong. Do yourself a favor and Go to reggae hut instead! I really enjoyed the owners reply to my review. Thank you for giving me a pseudo geography lesson. Also, instead of talking about changing how you list your item on Uber eats you try and blame me for not researching your food establishment before trying it? Let me ask you: does the food profile of Trinidad and Tobago include dry rice , tasteless cabbage and barely cooked plantains?!?

Yelp
This is the kind of place that makes Houston great! So delicious, with fresh ingredients and good portion size. Calling all vegans - options galore! The owner and chef came out to see if we needed anything and it's clear everything is made with love. Nothing beats that! I'll be back for the coffee experience soon!

Yelp
I believe everything is made to order, so we waited about half an hour for our food. With that being said, everything tasted amazing and was fresh/hot!! The portion size is really good for the price too. I gave it four stars because of the wait time, but also the limited seating area. The tables are so close together that you can hear everyone's conversation.

Yelp
First of all, the atmosphere and the folks who work there--this place feels like family, so much so that everyone seems to engage everyone else. Clearly, the staff loves to work here. The food? Gullah Greens are the BOMB! I could eat just the greens but then would miss out on the rest. My friend and I sampled each others plates--salmon very good, jerk chicken YUM, and the plaintains? Suffice to say we took an order to go. Oh yes, the sorrel is out of this world! Mac-n-cheese was unfortunately dry--hopefully just a one off. We will be back

Yelp
Accidentally stumbled onto this place. Amazing little restaurant. Food and service were excellent! Jerk chicken is phenomenal.

Yelp
LITERALLY TGE BEST JERK CHICKEN IN HOUSTON!! I am a big fan of Caribbean foods and flavors, I've been all over Houston eating at every Jamaican restaurant I could find for many years. On last week I was on my Caribbean food hunt but didn't want to drive to far. I looked on the yelp app to see if any new spots came up and to my surprise I saw this spot right around the corner from my shop and made it a point to get there ASAP. That ASAP was today and I am not disappointed at all. This place is what your looking for in the neighborhood...low key, clean, modern, good music, nice vibe and on top of that a coffee bar!!!!! I ordered the Jerk Chicken, rice & peas, sweet potato croquettes and Sorrell tea. The food was amazing...the chicken was so tender and seasoned to the bone with the perfect jerk Seasoning to make every bite an experience. The sweet potato croquettes were a 1st for me but they will not be the last...it put your mind in St. Anne's, Jamaica; like you are in the tropics feasting. The rice and peas were definitely different, you can taste all the spices which work harmoniously with the entire dish. The service was good and friendly. If your looking for your next low key dining spot I recommend KUJI Kitchen

Yelp
I heard about this place through a friend and I was excited because it's in my neighborhood. I called in my order for pickup. I ordered the chicken vegetable lo-mien and my husband got the hamburger with wedge fries. Hubby did not enjoy the burger at all. He said it was something in the seasoning. My meal had good flavor but it was way too salty. I couldn't enjoy it at all. I see in the reviews that y'all have a grocery store. I will check it out for fresh vegetables.
