"Woman-owned, Kula is known for its vegan and gluten-free delights sold at its Sorrento Mesa shop. Make-your-own ice cream sandwiches along with sample trays where you can try multiple flavors are on the menu and, lo and behold, dog-friendly ice cream, too." - Roxana Becerril, Candice Woo

"Sorrento Valley is now home to Kula, San Diego’s only all vegan and gluten-free ice cream shop. Launched at farmers markets, Kula previously operated out of a space shared with Maya’s Cookies but earlier this year, founder Libby Lefanowicz struck out on her own and built her own full-time ice cream production facility, transforming the front of the building into a new tasting room and scoop shop that’s open from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday." - Kelly Bone

San Diego’s very first vegan ice cream parlor located in a business park area. Kula provides vegan, gluten free, and dairy free ice cream flavors using different bases such as coconut, almond, cashew, sunflower and even natural sweeteners. Not only do they serve ice cream but also ice cream sandwiches, floats, and shakes. If you’re craving for more, you can purchase a pint here or at a local grocery store or at various farmers market. There were 12 flavors on this particular night. No coffee flavor so I sampled Chai Latte (coconut base) and was not impressed. Tried Cocoa Cookie Monster (sunflower base), Oh Fudge (coconut base), Chocolate Olive Oil (almond base) and Lava Cake (almond base). Pretty much went all chocolate and I found that I lean towards almond base. The Lava Cake was the top contender with chocolate cake chunk and chocolate ganache. Chocolate Olive Oil was the second best on my list both with almond base. The other girls thought Lava Cake was sweet. I thought it was perfect but that was 3 against 1. Make sure you sample before you buy!

Google
Amazing ice cream and exceptional customer service!! Always love supporting vegan/gluten free establishments and was not disappointed by the flavors. My two favorite flavors were the chocolate chip cookie dough and birthday cake. Unfortunately we didn’t catch the lady’s name, but on 11/25 at 6pm she provided the best service we’ve had in a while!

Zachary Van Stanley

Google
I really enjoyed these sweet treats. The different bases were really fun to see, and the person helping us was very patient and friendly. They were out of the waffle cookie for the sample platter, but they were able to substitute it for a cone. The cookie sandwich was delicious with only a tiny amount of grainy texture to alert you to the gluten-free nature. They were very allergen conscious and considerate. Definitely worth a visit.

Google
Vegan icecream can taste good, me and my husband found this cute shop after having lunch at madras cafe. We were skeptical about the flavor but the server gave us to try the flavors and we picked from that. The chochlate flavor was more enhanced than the normal dairy icecreams. Mine was almond base, my husband was sunflower seed base. They also have ice cream for dogs. And offer if you buy pint. Must try.

Google
Absolutely the best vegan ice cream I have ever had! My non vegan partner thinks the same! They have the best cones I have ever had in my life too, soft but crunchy amazing!(Hope they don't ever change the cone recipe) The staff is super friendly and definitely my favorite flavor is the lava cake. Prices are a little above average, $10 for 2 scoops and +3 for a cone but I think it is definitely worth it. They ask if you have any allergies as well. Delicious A+🙂

Google
What an amazing experience it was to have vegan + gluten free ice cream for the first time. They have a wonderful variety of flavors which are superrrr delicious and since they are dairy free, do not cause bloating- yay! The place is super cute and fit for cute ig pics too. Customer service was amazing. Thanks to Josh for the wonderful service and conversation!

Google
Hidden gem. Delicious ice cream. Lots of great GF and DF options. We did the sampler and we loved it! Lava cake ice cream was my favorite. They also sell GF/DF cakes.

Google
Excellent and delicious non-dairy ice cream with many flavors to choose from. All flavors are delicious, especially the pistachio one. 🤤 Your taste buds will thank you. Excellent customer service as well. Highly recommended. 😄👍🏼

Yelp
the cutest place! I was very surprised that the ice cream here is vegan-- the flavors are so rich and tasty. My favorite by far in the strawberry. The service here is super friendly and the interior is nicely decorated. The cutest hidden gem!

Alanna C.

Yelp
Wonderful customer service! Let us try a bunch of flavors. My favorite was the strawberry kiwi made with locally grown strawberries and kiwis. The single scoop in a cup is decently sized and the single in a waffle cone is like a double scoop, huge! The ice cream / sorbets are all dairy free, gluten free and vegan so the coconut based ones have a bit of a coconut flavor to it. Definitely tell the server if you're allergic to nuts!! Found out they sell their pints in Gelson's stores so I'll be buying more from there! Yum!

Yelp
SO GOOD! This random location in an office park of Sorrento Valley across the street from Qualcomm is both the production facility and ice cream shop for Kula, a local vegan ice cream brand. There's plenty of parking and a good amount of folks who know this shop. Emily was beyond welcoming. Very engaging, knowledgeable, and friendly. The flavors are well thought out and made with high quality ingredients. Compared to their mass produced competition, the textures were far creamier and smoother. You also tasted less of the base flavor and more of the intended taste. The cookie monster was so good. Not neon blue. Chocolately and decadent with pieces of cookie. Oh-so-good. A single scoop ($7) was plenty! Would love to return and try more flavors - or pick up a pint from the grocery store in the future.

Gigi C.

Yelp
A cute ice cream shop located amongst businesses. Once you open the door, the smell of the freshly baked cones draws you in. I ordered the 4 sampler, which comes with a freshly made cone. I can only remember 3 of the 4 flavors I ordered. The Cookie Monster was creamy and chocolatey; and the other 2 were the sorbet ones, one watermelon and the other nectarine. Both were refreshing and delicious. Also the friendly service tops off the 5 star review. Will definitely come back again and try the other flavors Kula has to offer.

Yelp
Looked on Yelp for the closest ice cream shop and didn't even know that this place was vegan and gluten free. Hopefully one day vegan food isn't pricey, but for now, it is pricey at $6 for one scoop or $8 for two. I got the scoop of chai ice cream which was made with a coconut base. The coconut base was overpowering and I didn't taste too much chai but it is my fault for not getting a sample beforehand lol. It is way too sweet for my liking. But this is all personal preference. It is awesome that this is the first and all vegan and gluten free ice cream shop in SD! Customer service is super friendly. We came near closing time and the worker who helped us out was not in a rush and even shared with us so much information on this ice cream shop.

Yelp
I am sometimes judgmental and anti-vegan food. But I was in desperate need of ice cream, and this was the nearest location. My coworkers barely made it in time, we literally came in 5 minutes before they were about to close. At first, it looked like a normal ice cream shop. I saw the employees making ice cream and packing them. So that was a good sign that it's made in house. Then in the ice cream display cooler all the flavors looked great. I sampled a few flavors and was blown away how great it tasted. There was ice cream made from coconut and sunflower seeds. I chose a scoop of mint chip coconut base. It was $7, which seemed excessively high to me for one average scoop. I've had more ice cream at these other popular San Diego ice cream shops for a few dollars less. But that's okay because this is vegan. Did I enjoy my ice cream at the end of the day? Yes. Did it matter that it was vegan? No. Could I tell it was vegan? Not really. So thumbs up!

Joe Q.

Yelp
Kula is barely a year old and is pumping out quality craft ice cream - with no animal products! Yep, vegan ice cream is possible. It still taste creamy and sweet, but does have a slightly different texture. With a base like almond or sunflower seed, it's bound to be less fluffy due to higher water content. Nevertheless, delicious in its unique way and deals every Thursday.

Yelp
I went here today with my boyfriend. I was so impressed at the fact that I was able to choose so many creative flavors! I was so happy to know that I was able to choose any ice cream and not worry about not having my lactose pills on me (so happy the flavors are vegan!) The owner, Libby, was so sweet and took the time to educate us on how she was able to formulate flavors and ingredients that worked with each flavor. This place is so unique and the workers are also nice. So happy to have an ice cream place that I can eat without having to worry about my stomach reacting negatively. It's definitely a place that I would highly recommend! Thanks for all the hard work, Libby! Will be returning again soon!

Yelp
First off, don't be like me and pretend to know how to get here. Lol. This is in an unexpecting, industrial looking building. My husband and I drove to the plaza next to it, and had to trek through a small lawn to get there. Plenty of parking. Tiny place. One table for indoor seating and two tables outside but not ideal for staying bc the sun directly hits them after 4pm. Poor ice creams. The staff are so friendly! Reminiscent of salt and straw where they let you sample anything and everything. Their ice creams are VEGAN! 100%. The real test is my hubs not getting the runs right after. We ended up getting their flight which includes 4 large scoops and a waffle cone for $12?! What a steal! The ice cream either melts really fast Or it was THAT hot/sunny. Very lovely place! Flavors are unique too!!!

Why-Tie Z.

Yelp
I like that they have alternative milk options. The flavors are not bad. The texture is airy foamy like heavy cream. I'd expect it to be more creamy or firm. Taste wise I've had better ice cream. I tried a bunch of flavors.

Andrew G.

Yelp
This is a cool little specialty vegan gluten free ice cream place. The facility facility is tucked back in an industrial park where they make ice cream for retail sales but they have a store front where they sell to the public. The young lady who served us was super sweet and clearly put effort into being a great host and explaining what they do as a company. The ice cream was awesome. We got to sample a bunch of flavors. It was an interesting and tasty place to check out.

Amanda S.

Yelp
A hidden gem. I never thought there was a great ice cream place here. We had chocolate lava, mint and chocolate monster. All delicious!! We'll be back!

Dr ED M.

Yelp
We got a ice cream cake and wow on point, the food is A plus. The service is super super super awesome; the gal always waves. And ambiance is cute!

Sylvia H.

Yelp
Pretty good for vegan ice cream. I've been increasingly more intolerant of lactose and wanted to check out this place to see how the ice cream tasted. First, the ice cream. Had a decent variety of flavors. It was nice that you could sample them. They even gave out samples on chilled (I think) real spoons! Nice touch. Tasted a few flavors: mango coconut, peanut butter choc chip, strawberry, mint chip. Ended up getting strawberry and mint chip. The strawberry was decent, not like real strawberry ice cream but still good. The outstanding flavor was actually the mint chip. Tasted legit! The ice cream melts fast though, so you need to eat it quickly. Sugar cones were good. Overall, it was a bit pricey, two single scoops in sugar cones ended up being $12. I would come here again but I feel like it wouldn't be top of mind because the location isn't ideal. It's pretty tucked in in a Sorrento Valley business park. I wonder if their weekday traffic is better. You can also order milk shakes, pints to-go, and even an ice cream for your pup! Check it out.

Frances A.

Yelp
I'm really happy my friend I come here. It's difficult to find quality gluten and dairy free ice cream. While Kula frequents several farmers' markets, their Sorrento Valley location is a cute place in a business park. It's near the Tesla charger so I think I will be coming to Kula if I need a quick charge of the car. Didn't think that dairy free ice cream held many possibilities? Well Kula has more than ten flavors available to scoop into a cup or GF regular/waffle cone. Although Kula is available at Gelson's markets, I think you notice the creative ingredients used to craft the ice cream. This includes the use of sunflower seeds to create a non-dairy, vegan ice cream base. The ice cream is creamy and dense (really filling). Another example is the use of grapes to sweeten a chocolate fudge ice cream. Pretty neat. There are also vegan and GF treats made by local artisans featured in this ice cream shop. Even dog ice cream!

Yelp
Kula Ice Cream has set up its business in a cluster of industrial suites and warehouses in Sorrento Valley. I'm not a fan of the location because it's tucked away from the main thoroughfare, and you won't get any foot traffic. The monthly rent must be highly affordable because several other food vendors have also leased space within the nearby complexes. Parking is never an issue because the lot rarely sees an influx of traffic. Vegan lovers should rejoice because all of the products are both vegan as well as gluten free. Consequently, their prices are higher than what is charged at the dessert shops around town. Scoops are priced at small for $6, medium for $8, and large for $10. If you want the ice cream served in a cone, then there is a surcharge of $1 or $2 depending on the type. At my visit, a dozen flavors were available. Some of the bases that were used to make the batches were interesting... almond, cashew, sunflower. From the list of six favorites, the one which caught my attention was the Sunflower Rum Raspberry. I tried a taste sample first. There was a unique tartness to this combination that I ended up buying and enjoying a small scoop in a cup.

Michelle N.

Yelp
I lucked out when Kula Ice Cream's storefront ended up in Sorrento Valley, which is only a 5 minute drive down Mira Mesa Blvd from my house! This is a curse and a blessing in disguise, as it's so easy to get to for some tasty treats... maybe too easy! - PARKING - Oddly located in an industrial plaza/office space area, but there's plenty of parking spots! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - Small storefront that also has all the machinery working in the back that you can see! Looks like they implemented ~4 stools and tables inside for people that can't wait to eat their Ice Cream. Staff was super friendly - she encouraged us to try all the flavors we wanted, which is always nice to know you're not being perceived as a dessert fiend! - FOOD - Plum Sorbet (small scoop, waffle cone - $6, $2): It was actually National Ice Cream Cone day, so we got the Waffle Cone for free! Otherwise it'd be $2. At normal Ice Cream shops, I gravitate towards the sorbets because they're safe bets for my lactose intolerance - however, here at Kula where everything is dairy-free, I still gravitated towards this Plum Sorbet because it was SO GOOD!!! Such a nice balance between sweet and tart, I kept wanting more. Their sorbet flavor changes seasonally and is water based. But First, Coffee! (small scoop, waffle cone - $6, $2): Cashew Based! I'm a huge sucker for anything Coffee flavored, especially when it's done right - and Kula does it right!! Great Coffee flavor comes through from the Ice Cream, and the bits of Dark Chocolate Espresso Beans make it even better. - OVERALL - Will absolutely come back for more delicious dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan Ice Cream! Keeping a look-out for the next seasonal sorbet :)

Katie H.

Yelp
THIS. IS. WHAT. YOU. HAVE. BEEN. LOOKING. FOR. Ice Cream: I don't know how this brand has not blown up yet. It's sooooo good. If anyone has been looking for a sign to try this, this is it!! The ice cream is vegan and gluten free! My friends and husband that do not have allergies approve of this ice cream. I tend to not like too many ice creams because vegan normally means it's compensated with way too much sugar, but this ice cream is the perfect consistency, flavor, and sweetness that makes me craving it and wanting more. They even have gluten free, vegan waffle cones that are so delicious with a crunch! The plum sorbet has the fruit locally sourced from farmers markets too! Service: The owner is so sweet and nice! Female-Owned!! You can see the passion that she has for Kula and it's well-deserved because it's sooooo good. Ambience: The storefront is super cute! It's in an industrial area, and has an indoor and outdoor area for enjoyment. I will forever be Kula's hype person because I finally found an ice cream that I enjoy.

Kirsten K.

Yelp
Worth the drive and the calories!! Oh my!!! I couldn't decide, so I got the sample option. Chocolate lava cake, peanut butter, chocolate chip cookie dough, mint chip and a waffle cone. All of it was scrumptious!! The lava cake waa rich and decadent. The peanut butter was super peanut buttery. The chocolate chip cookie dough was a tad too sweet for me but delicious, none the less. The mint chip was my favorite and apparently it's very popular because they were sold out of the pints to go. The waffle cone tasted exactly like a regular gluten waffle cone. All of this was $9 including a tip. I can't believe I waited this long to try it! I can't wait to go back and try other flavors!!! Highly recommend to friends!!

Cierra S.

Yelp
everytime i come to kula their service and ice cream is a 10/10. such friendly workers with amazing attitudes working each time and their ice cream is super good! my favorite is the Lava Cake pictured below.

Jerry H.

Yelp
Yum! I wanted to take the kids for ice cream after finishing climbing camp at Mesa rim! This place hit the spot. The ice cream was delicious, the service was great, easy to find easy to get in and out of. And all vegan, gluten-free, and dairy free. The ice cream was absolutely delicious, I got the sampler with four mini scoops and a waffle cookie for eight dollars. My favorite was the chocolate lava cake, Coco Cookie Monster was the second, and watermelon ship was third. The chocolate chip cookie dough has a coconut base which I did not like as much. All in all a five star experience!

Alex P.

Yelp
The ice cream was perfect and the waffle cone was to die for. I had a cone fresh off the press and it was rad. Rad times. Rad place. Rad owner

Jennifer T.

Yelp
This place is legit! I've been here twice now in two weeks! The first time I ordered a homemade waffle cone with mint chip ice cream and it reminded me of childhood because it feels like that long ago since I've had ice cream like this! I haven't had a cone since discovering my food allergies. I felt nostalgic -- and I was relishing my tasty treat! I came back again and got two pints to take home. Mint chip was one and choc Cookie Monster was the other. Both are delicious! The Cookie Monster is made with gluten free cookies and is really good-- not decadent like the lava cake (which I sampled and will come back for). Everything in here is gluten and dairy free which is just amazing. Josh is also super friendly and helpful. I loved my experiences here and will definitely come back! Thank you for existing!

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Lava Cake. AMAZING!!! Had their ice cream today at Little Italy Farmers Market. I can not wait to purchase and try more flavors!!!

Jason G.

Yelp
Ran across this vendor in Oceanside at Local Roots. My wife and I wanted some of their ice cream late on a Sunday afternoon so we drove here to see if the were open. Surprisingly they were! Very friendly staff. Watermelon, lemon strawberry, and peach chardonnay (very unique) were all our favorites. Excellent quality here!

Pablo S.

Yelp
It's vegan not your typical ice cream. It was delicious! I would highly recommend it. I am glad we found it, being out town it's great to enjoy some ice cream.

Bernadette B.

Yelp
I was very skeptical about vegan, non dairy, gluten free ice cream but I was so wrong. Kula ice cream is incredible and you will hardly believe it's not made with cow's milk. I am obsessed with the Lava Cake flavor. Sublime!

Christine N D.

Yelp
I'm so glad this place exists! I had a great experience here from the moment I walked in. Josh greeted us and our dog immediately. He was very friendly and helpful! He offered us samples of flavors and also explained the ingredients as we tried them. They were all so good and I couldn't make up my mind! Josh recommended the mini scoop sampler of 4 flavors which was so helpful. I was blown away by this sampler and it was definitely worth the price. The ice cream is so rich in flavor that mini scoops were all I needed! I also love how they use different dairy-alternative bases so there's a variety. Their pecan pie and pumpkin spice latte are a must try! We will definitely be back. They even have ice cream for dogs in the freezer called "pup cups." Our dog loved it! There was no added sugar in it but she was so excited she got the zoomies!

Hello A.

Yelp
OHHH YES! San Diego's first vegan, gluten-free ice cream shop opened just last week! My whole family is in LOVE! My parents were in town this weekend so we stopped in for cones after a short hike. Super FRIENDLY place. Right when we walked in, we were offered samples and everything we tried was seriously delicious! My family has dairy intolerance, milk protein allergies and other dietary restrictions. So happy we have found Kula! The front of the shop has a small but cheery space, really cute sign, a counter height table with a couple of bar stools and a small table outside. The rest of the space is dedicated for their production facility. We enjoyed the space then hung out outside. There's a freezer of pints, and she offered to pack them in ice in case we wanted to grab some for the road! A little tricky to find the place so check their website for a helpful map and store hours. Easy parking! We enjoyed Unicorn Poop, Lava Cake, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, But First, Coffee, and Watermelon Chip Sorbet in their fresh, homemade waffle cones, which are also gluten-free, vegan. Smooth, creamy, still can't believe that was dairy-free! Congrats, Kula, on your cute new shop and awesome product!

Mickayla M.

Yelp
It is SO hard to find dairy-free/vegan ice cream let alone something SO tasty. This gem is in an odd industrial spot you'd never guess. I believe this is because they sell mostly at farmers markets if I remember correctly. Thankfully we live nearby and are lucky to know of this great spot. Definitely check it out and then be sure to spread the word. You won't be disappointed

Maddie L.

Yelp
My bf has celiac disease so we were super excited this place offer gluten free waffle cones! We got the "Everything" flavor with the gluten free waffle cone and it was delicious!! The "Everything" flavor kinda tasted like "Rocky Road" flavor and it was tasty! (: I also purchased the "Matcha" flavor pint and normally I don't like the taste of coconut too much. But this ice cream was really good I can taste more of the matcha than the coconut milk. I want to get more!!

Lien B.

Yelp
AMAZING VEGAN ICECREAM! I got the Lava Cake (almond base) on a freshly made waffle cone. It was decadent, fudgey, and perfectly sweetened. The ganache in the ice cream was rich and had an amazing texture. Waffle cone deserves a *chefs kiss* because it stayed crispy even when the icecream was melting. I'm so happy that all the options here are dairy-free because I am lactose-intolerant. Lots of parking, but was a little hard to find due to it being in an industrial area. Can't wait to try other flavors!

Ellen J.

Yelp
I've been to Kula Ice Cream a few times and the ice cream is always delicious. I'd have to say my favorite is the sunflower rum raspberry. The tartness of the raspberry goes perfectly with the richness of the rum and sunflower base. As a celiac, I always opt for a waffle cone because rarely do I have options other than a plain old cup. The employees are always super kind and happy to answer questions about the flavors. I brought my four roommates here (all non gf/non vegan) and after eagerly trying just about every flavor (thank you Kula for your patience...), they all had to make tough decisions but were beyond satisfied. Unique flavors, quality ingredients, and allergy friendly!!

Sari L.

Yelp
This gem is a little bit hard to find given it is in an industrial type complex but wow I am glad we found it. Decor was super cute. We got an ice cream flight which was the perfect amount of ice cream and it was very flavorful and gentle on our lactose intolerant tummies. I loved the strawberry and kiwi flavors the most. Birthday cake was great as well

Chrisna T.

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp after hiking the trails and wanted something sweet and satisfying. Hidden gem is located in with other industrial buildings. Wasn't sure it was open to the public but it is. The guy who helped us was very helpful and gave us great friendly service. The ice cream place is perfect for my boyfriend and I because we love ice cream but we are lactose intolerant. Ice cream here is made with plant base and coconut base, that's perfect! We hit the jackpot place for our tummies. The flavors were yummy! I had to buy a pint of another flavor to take home. Thank you Kula.

Alexandra S.

Yelp
The ice cream is soooo yummy. I originally found their pop up at a farmers Market in little italy so I had to go and get more. Totally worth getting take home icecream size.

Bridgette D.

Yelp
love love LOVE!!!! everyone needs to come here, it was an adorable little shop and the employees were SO incredibly kind and sweet!!! their icecream is SO YUMMY!!! even for being so health conscious!! i'm dairy free and i wish i had a place like this where i was from! if you saw the review on it being a little confusing to get to, it is in a warehouse like place but you're in the right spot!! go support them!

Wendy T.

Yelp
Honestly haven't found any better vegan ice cream spots in SD. This spot was a hit. Even though it's a bit hidden, I really do recommend checking it out. My boyfriend and I thought the upside down pineapple cake and cookie dough were a MUST. Service was also outstanding- very attentive to customers and even asks for thoughts on each flavor that we were sampling (yes! you can sample anything and everything you want).

Charisse C.

Yelp
We hired Kula for our twins' birthday drive-by this weekend and they far exceeded our expectations! Even though they are typically busy on the weekends because of farmers market events, Libby (the owner), made it happen! They provided 5 different flavors and all of our non-vegan guests loved the ice cream! If you're considering Kula for your private event, book them now! Or grab a few pints at your local farmers market. Every flavor is amazing!

Julie R.

Yelp
Tried Kula ice cream for the first time and it was great. The ice cream is vegan and gluten-free. It is the best vegan ice cream I have ever had. I highly recommend it. The customer service was great as well. It is a hidden gem.

Sheena S.

Yelp
The hands down, best, vegan ice cream I have ever had the pleasure of eating. I was at Yesai the other day and the hubs and I seen the desert menu with all these vegan ice cream flavors - we decided to try the chocolate lava cake. And boy it did not disappoint! I've written off ice for about 5 years since going plant based. I've tried vegan options but none have come close to the real dairy stuff. Immediately regretted getting one order to share. Absolutely delicious! Asked the server for the name and immediately ordered 3 pints for delivery the following week. We were even close to making our way to one of the farmers markets to get more! And we are supporting a small local business. Does it get any better? Go get you some Kula!

Smartypants S.

Yelp
Love! Had a generous single scoop of vegan mint chocolate chip on a waffle cone a hot day at Hillcrest Farmers Market. We are now Kula Ice Cream f-a-n-s. Waffle cone held up, stayed crunchy and intact down to the last bit of ice cream. We are gelato and ice cream snobs. Have eaten highly rated but to us kinda meh frozen desserts all over. Had to review so others will have the same Kula vegan ice cream joy that we had!! It's worth checking their web site and hunting them down at several farmers markets. Serious quality.

Tina C.

Yelp
The ice cream was amazing! It was creamy, sweet without being overly sweet, and the flavors were so good! I tried the sampler of matcha, mint chocolate chip and cake, chocolate chip, and strawberry cookie with a gluten free waffle cone. I saw the waffle cones coming off the waffle iron. It's such a treat to have non diary ice cream with cookies and cake in it that is gluten free. I'll be coming back to try the other flavors. They offer samples and the service was awesome!

Jyothi S.

Yelp
Stopped in with my vegan friend who found this place via the Happy Cow app. Super cute little gem that has completely vegan ice cream. They have many flavors and a very sweet worker offered samples of anything you wanted to try before committing. We ended up with a scoop of the lava cake and the coffee. Both were delicious! Recommend this spot for both vegan and non-vegans alike.

Laura H.

Yelp
Everything is gluten free and vegan!! They even have ice cream sandwiches

Kristin W.

Yelp
Not good ice cream, I'm sorry to say. San Diego is in dire need of good vegan ice cream options, but this misses the mark. I tried chocolate chip cookie dough the first time I came. The base tasted more coconutty than vanilla-y, it lacked much cookie dough, and overall was disappointing. I threw it away without finishing it. I tried a second time, this time trying the pumpkin pie flavor. It was cashew-based rather than coconut, so I was hopeful. Unfortunately this one also failed to deliver on flavor or creaminess. The base is more watery/icy than dense and creamy, and while pumpkin flavor was present, there was not much sweetness nor the pumpkin pie spices you'd expect to taste (cinnamon, vanilla cardamom, etc). I threw this scoop away without finishing, just like the last. It pains me to say this, because I love supporting local vegan eateries, but this one could be so much better. I think perhaps they are going for a more "healthy" ice cream, which is why their ice creams are lacking creaminess/a full mouthfeel/sweetness.

Yelp
The best I've cream I've ever had, vegan or not. The cookie dough is my absolute favorite, but the chocolate lava cake is incredible, too. I'm gluten free and this place is a Godsend :D Giving it 4 stars because it's pretty high in sugar (more than some Ben & Jerry's!) and $12 a pint is a bit steep. Overall worth it, though, for a splurge.

Yelp
Vegan Ice Cream Galore. LOVED the flavors here and the fact that I can eat more of it because it's dairy free helps. It's hard to find as it's in the middle of a business park, but we came midday and were able to spot the brightly colored canopy over the window. I like the coconut and almond based flavors and the rocky road was spectacular. Birthday cake was my wife's favorite. We'll be here again soon.

Yelp
Amazing gluten-free, dairy-free ice cream sandwich. If you haven't been to Kula Ice Cream, you have definitely been missing out!
