"A long-standing quick-service Japanese canteen serving affordable sushi, tempura, and bowls of udon noodles from either a conveyor belt or slightly more extensive a la carte. This is a low-key, unhyped, and reliable option whose unchanged menu and wood panelling recalls a less frenetic, and less commercial era in Soho." - Adam Coghlan

Found this place on an evening in Soho after not being able to find space anywhere else (surprisingly busy for a Wednesday). So I kept walking and saw the window plastered with all these awards. Did a quick google maps check and said yep let’s eat here. They are unpretentious, great and friendly service, really high quality, reasonably priced sushi and food! I found myself craving it the next day… Conveyor belt sushi, pay by plate, prices are up on the walls and on the menu which you can also order from. The Chefs are preparing the food right in front of you. Everything you’ll need is on your take at the bar, tissues, chopsticks, pickled ginger, wasabi etc.. I highly recommend and will definitely return soon.

I love the food there. It's good quality at a reasonable price. I would definitely go back again!

Google
I was expecting real authentic Japanese sushi with Japanese Chefs. Sadly it wasn’t and the taste is kinda westernised. Having said that, taste is acceptable considering the value. Big portion. If you really miss sushi with conveyor belt, it is worth trying. But it’s nothing close to sushi u have in Japan, sorry.

Google
Having been to Japan which is my top-of-the-list country, this restaurant is the one that resembles the most to those in Japan which I love so much. The food is excellent, the details, the green tea, the staff and the cosiness. I think it’s run by a Japanese family.

Google
I had dinner with my husband in this restaurant and I really enjoy the atmosphere and the conveyor belt with sushi dishes! Apart from the plates on the conveyor belt, you can also order some dishes from a list. Hot tea is included. Quick and friendly service (even though we arrived quite late, at around 9pm) and at a good price!

Google
Superb polite staff.. Superb chefs.. Superb delicious sushi and more.. We spent 40 GBP per person, but it is just because we ate lots of dishes. :)) Otherwise, it isn't an expensive place to have delicious sushi.

Google
I was going to give Kulu Kulu 4 stars… then I saw that the only cold sake they have is made in the UAE?! What’s that about?? But to be nice I kept my rating at 4. Very disappointed with the sake selection. We didn’t wait at all for 2 seats on a Thursday around 12:30. Confused as to why the same dishes sometimes came through covered, sometimes uncovered. Some of the warm items were cold. The Aubergine are way too sweet. There’s no napkins, just tissues. The size of the maki/uramaki pieces are monstrous, too big to enjoy in one bite and fall apart if you try to enjoy in two bites. Friendly and quick service. Would not return, but based on other reviews, looks like one of the top 3 options for conveyor belt type restaurant in SoHo, Marylebone and Mayfair.

Google
Was recommended this place by a friend so popped in for a quick bite whilst in Soho. Very quick service, staff very nice, great selection of sushi. Very fresh. Tasted lush. Good pricing for location and quality. Would recommend.

Yelp
We were lucky the quality of the sushi was alright when we went. However, service sucked. The waiter dodged us a few times when we asked for the receipt. Also, this place up charges like crazy. Not worth €5 for 2 slices of rolls per plate. We spent €60 between two people. Not worth it.

Lorena C.

Yelp
If I could give no stars I would They should call this place rolls of rice as fish in their rolls was barely there Service was equally bad Skip this and go somewhere else

Kewei H.

Yelp
Very disappointed by the quality, you can buy the same quality of sushi in Waitrose. We ended up ordering four dishes and went to somewhere else to fill the stomach.

Sissel B.

Yelp
Best sushi in a long time! The staff was very nice and helpful. Affordable prices, easy to share the plates if, like us, you're a company of two or more. Varied range of dishes, both meat and vegetarian and everything was done fresh in the middle of the conveyor belt.

Brian K.

Yelp
0 for 2 today in soho. Not sure how this place rates so highly but the quality was clearly lacking. Green tea was fine. That's really the only positive thing I have to say. There was a hair in the wasabi container, items were left on conveyor for way too long, overall quality was trash. Go elsewhere if you want good sushi.

Trieu L.

Yelp
Really disappointed and feeling unsatisfied. Kulu Kulu was once my go-to sushi restaurant, if I wanted something quick and easy, no nonsense Japanese food, Kulu Kulu was it. I really like the whole conveyor belt idea, the quick served up ramen, and the noodle soup. The restaurant it self is small and I find it cosy, you watch the chef as he prepares the dishes. It reminded me a little bit of Tokyo. However tonight, I notice the menu had changed slightly and not for the better. Portions seems slight bigger and there were less seafood choices. Smoked salmon was served on with some of the rolls, and what made me clinch my fist and bite my bottom lip was that, salmon still had its trimmings. There is NO EXCUSE. If you run a Japanese sushi restaurant, the chefs needs to know how to cut salmon for sushi. The rest of the dishes were just as botched up. Sushi rolls looked different shapes and sizes, no uniformity to sashimi slices, and where are all the lovely waitresses that use to work here? Presentation is loss. Taste wise very average, but my appetite had already gone after this point. Its really a shame, I once use to eat here fortnightly, but tonight might be my last.

Yelp
I wanted to meet a friend in town, and I knew we had limited time. Scrolling my food list I realised I had never been Kulu Kulu. Ahhh...a conveyor belt sushi place. Now I know why. But I thought why not. I had been to some amazing places for sushi in Japan and amongst them was a conveyor belt place in Tokyo. Now in Tokyo we used ipads to order straight to our seating. So it wasn't necessarily conveyor belt but customised/automated whatever you want to call it, to order. Kulu Kula has roaming plates created in the center by sushi chefs. The one in Brewer St has non Japanese chefs. I'm always sceptical about this but in my old age have realised that it doesn't mean they can't cut, slice or on a wider scale do the food that is not instantly recognisable with them. Some of the food I had: PROS: - I saw an Unagi nigiri! I had to get it and it was marinaded beautifully. Good start. - The prawn Torpedo Roll was perfect. Hitting the spot with it's mayo, rice and prawn. - The aubergine miso. So soft and not too sharp. I've cooked this at home and this was balanced well. CONS: - The shrimp and the pork salad I spotted and just grabbed were OK. Nothing to shout about really. This place is a quick stop off for lunch, though I'd be tempted to come back for Dinner if in a hurry and also for the novelty factor. As it was fun spotting plates and asking the chefs in the middle. They price the food by the style of the plates which is clever. It can add up but on the whole it was very reasonable with dishes from £2-£4 approx. A nice alternative to the long stay, fancy places you might find for Japanese food in town for sure.

Yelp
A little dissapointing. We got there 1 hour before closure and they were simply not putting new sushi on the belt, which we noticed after 10 minutes of sitting there and grabbing 1-2 plates from it. We ordered after that but not the best experience. They had run out of a lot of fish, basically only had tuna, eel and salmon left. Inexpensive atmosphere but not so inexpensive sushi. Lingo around the corner is overall much better. Their sake is pretty good though. And some of the prepared rolls were good as well. Service was fine. May be better for busy lunch times.

Yelp
Sadly I never had the opportunity to visit Kulu Kulu back when it used to be awesome at least according to the reviews taped on the inside of the shop window, but I am sure those days are gone! I love sushi bars with conveyor belts but this one is a little too small and claustrophobic for my taste when packed by a few costumer so ordering take away is the only valid choice at this kulu kulu if you ask me. Also when the weather Gods allow it why not when the Golden Squares is just a few steps away! The take away menu is quite adequate but it is always a plus when you can mix and match according to your own preference; my sister cannot live without Edamame!! The Sushi sizes are generous and the fish is fairly fresh. The fish fillet on the Nigiris I ordered were nicely cut but the rice could have been boiled a little longer, packed a little lighter and with a more noticeable vinegar taste. The Unagi (eel) and Tako (squid) were the ones I enjoyed the most but this is not a memorable place or sushi to be honest! It is not bad but no way near what those decade old reviews promises! Honestly I feel Kulu Kulu becomes first and only a good bang for the buck when ordered to go! Eating inside will add nothing to the experience other than a much and to me unjustified larger hole in your wallet!

Yelp
Being in London for a year now, you learn that the Picadilly Circus/Soho/Chinatown area is where you go for a good hole in the wall Ramen/Sushi/Don fix. After doing a little suit shopping for a new job on Regent Street, my heart set itself on a small snack of ramen. I've walked past this place a couple of times and saw that it was relatively busy. I've even gone in once where I thought that it's just a conveyor belt sushi place. This time round, I was determined to give this place a go. You walk in, and you're greeted by non-Japanese people. While I'm totally for diversity in a business, it gets increasingly scary when you notice the sushi chefs, the wait staff and all but the manager of this place are not Japanese. A Japanese place not run by Japanese people!? Hmm... Ok... Maybe it's still worth a shot. BUT proceed with caution is what Lumach (my new nickname for my stomach) said. Ordered a tempura soba soup bowl, and an agadeshi tofu. The agadeshi tofu was freshly fried but the batter was not crispy brown. The tempura soba bowl was just lukewarm and the tempura, while also freshly fried was also done too quickly to produce any color or good taste. The only saving grace of this place was that the tempura soba bowl was £3.10, and the agadeshi tofu £1.50. CHEAP. But you get what you pay for... The soba bowl was a medium size in japan, at best. I'd honestly rather walk down the street to Taro and get me a proper meal... but if you're looking for a snack sized portion, I guess this would suffice. As with all my reviews: Will I go back? Probably not, not when there are tons other places in the area that I like better.

Ally W.

Yelp
I have to admit I didn't get a chance to eat the sushi... I just drank tea actually. I was on a business trip and was so hungry on my train ride that I ate before meeting up with a friend for dinner. So this review is for the space. HOW IT WORKS: you are seated along a convertible belt that the sushi travels along. Pick up any place you want. You can also special order items. HOW YOU PAY: each sushi plate is on a different color coded plate. They add up the total at the end. The fun part of watching the convertible belt was pretty neat. I've only seen it a few times before. We arrived before the mass crowd, there was easily a 30 min wait when we left. Not ideal for large groups because you can't talk to each other as you are seated side by side.

Alexandra H.

Yelp
So this is the place where we kissed the first time. There is something about kissing someone who has a hint of sashimi breath that makes it... magical and kinda gross at the same time. The guy is long time gone and so is the fish breath but I still love this place. Where else can you eat really good sushi made by a lot of non Japanese staff while listening to old Madonna tunes? I love that despite it being located in Soho and surrounded by...well, Soho-ians, there is nothing pretentious about this place. In fact, standing outside looking at all the plastic sushi plates in the window, there a part of you that can't help thinking perhaps the sandwiches in the nearby Nero qualify as adventurous new food after all. But trust me... walk in. Sit down. Get a cup of green tea. Start picking plates. Enjoy. Give a big tip. Go back. I'll be the girl in the corner smiling while getting a sashimi breath again.

Andrea M.

Yelp
It's a small place indeed, but the quality of food is exceptional IMHO. The fish is always fresh and the variety of the dishes is good. Price-wise is okay, I can't eat as much as I do in Kulu Kulu in different places like Yo Sushi. Beverages may be expensive though. Re the staff, don't expect to see Japanese guy as the tradition would require.

Halide T.

Yelp
My sister and her friend love this place as they came here often when they were living in the UK. I visited the place twice based on their recommendation. Second time it wasn't as good as the first time. That was on december 30th late in the day so I assume they were getting ready to close for the holidays. It's a cozy and small place. When you sit by the belt, you will easily touch elbows with the person sitting next to you. Not an ideal place for a group of more than 4. Even 4 might be pushing it depending on the time of the day! If you go during early dinner hours, you may need to wait for a seat because of the business crowd they attract. Overall, they seem to have a good selection of sushi and if you don't see something on the conveyor belt but is on the menu, you can always tell the staff and they will ask the chefs to prepare a few servings and put them on the belt. Probably the best experience I had was when I was sitting next to a pregnant Japanese lady . She talked to the staff about something and next thing I know, they had 3 plates of one of my favorite handrolls on the belt. As I tried to reach over and grab one of the plates, I bumped elbows with her and realized that this was her special order!!! So I let her took the first plate since she seemed to be craving this roll! I managed to grab the second one. Best part of the place is that you can eat according to your budget. On the wall, they have all their serving plates with different designs and their respective prices. So you can pick things based on how much money you want to spend. Cheapest are the simplest maki rolls and the hand rolls are more on the higher price end. They also have 4-5 tables where you can sit and order from the menu. I think they have noodles and a few other things on their menu as well

Yelp
This sushi bar with is conveyor belt used to be one of the best in London. But sadly on a return visit I found that the quality has changed for the worse. The deep fried soft shell crab was extremly greasy. The general quality of sushi has decreased and its well on its way to turning into another run of the mill sushi bar. Sad considering it has been around for over a decade. I won't be heading back until they raise their standards.

Sophie E.

Yelp
Great sushi, and it didn't break the bank. There was a large predominance of salmon that night (Saturday around 20:30) and people were starting to leave so it didn't get replenished as much, or with much variety. That was a shame. Decor is nothing to speak of, as there is none, but the conveyor belt's mesmerising dance of colourful sushi was plenty to keep my eyes busy. Will definitely be going back. The best place is in the back, against the wall right next to the kitchen as you can then grab the freshest dishes as soon as they're put down!

Rich M.

Yelp
It's the original conveyor belt in London but you've really got to get it at the right time. Get in there after the rush and they'll have very little of note left. If you can get there when they're ramping up for pre-theatre diners then it's a slightly different story... while unsophisticated the sushi is fresh and delicious.

Jules H.

Yelp
I had to find fresh sushi ... at 6pm at night. My night would have been a disaster otherwise. Ok this may be a bit exaggerated, but I was on a mission. There are loads of sushi places on Brewer Street and around lunch time you can find amazing take away sushi in all sizes and flavours. Not so much around 6pm. So I made the decision to go into Kulu Kulu Sushi and order my sushi directly, instead of taking it off the shelves. They were still open, they had customers and I could see that they had a kitchen. Like Sherlock I deducted that the sushi should be reasonable fresh. The menu for takeaway is extensive and you can either go for a set menu or put your favourites together yourself. I decided on California rolls, a couple of maki rolls and also experimented with the spinach in peanut sauce. All of it came out of the kitchen reasonable fast and fresh. I have to say that it was good sushi. Not great, but not bad either!

Qype User (tomcoo…)

Yelp
I love it at Kulu Kulu. Slightly mystified as to why the sushi chefs all seem to be Indian. Anyway, they speak Japanese. They certainly didn't learn sushi on a yo! sushi induction day. Something else I love about conveyor sushi places is that if you're in a real hurry you can be in and out in 5 minutes.

Qype User (cerule…)

Yelp
Excellent Japanese restaurant in the heart of London. It's really authentic, like in Japan! Most of the little dishes -sushi/sashimi/maki/tekami- are prepared with salmon. Love it! It's very fresh... You can also find miso soup, fried chicken, delicious and sweet aubergine (eggplant), potato salad, seaweed sakad, sushi with omelette or octopus, shrimp tempuras etc...You may also have free green tea. They charge according to the saucer. Prices go from £1.50 5 (miso soup) to £3.60 (sashimi). But be careful you might break the bank! Dont' be surprised if you find the same dish on two different saucers: the cheapest, the less fresh. The set is commonplace. One advice: seat near the wall, at the beginning of the conveyor belt...That's how you get the freshest sashimi!

Juno J.

Yelp
Very fresh no frills sushi place in soho. Everything I tried there was delicious and prepared well. I would recommend trying all of the nigiri as kulu kulu has some of the freshest fish I have found in London. My top recommendations would be the soft-shell crab hand roll, the scallop nigiri, the barbecued eel nigiri and the miso eggplant. The restaurant is conveyor belt style but the staff will gladly accommodate if there is anything else you fancy. I forced myself to try more exotic things, as I typically stick to tuna and salmon rolls. If you are going to be brave and try some different fish this is the place to do it.

Qype User (saraba…)

Yelp
nice place, I've popped in this afternoon for a quick snack, and I'm very happy I did. Good quality sushi, fast service, resonable price, smily staff, and you can even pay by card! No spots so far..... Good feelings, I'll definitely be back to check it out better.

Christine L.

Yelp
Trying to grab plates of sushi off of a conveyor belt is definitely a fun dining experience. However, the food isn't anywhere close to authentic Japanese cuisine. Most of the items are cooked foods (i.e. chicken teriyaki, fried tofu) rather than good quality sushi. However, if you are looking for a fun, quick dinner, this is a good place to go.

Qype User (bobs_y…)

Yelp
I have been going to this restaurant for years, either on my own or with family and friends. I really like the simplicity and casual character of this place: without being flashy or otherwise trendy in any way, it is very small and very popular so, sometimes, you may actually have to wait before you get a seat. But it's worth it. I have been told 'Kulu Kulu' actually means something that goes around... which is exactly what the food does :D The dishes are continually placed on a conveyor belt as it is prepared so you just help yourself. The price of each dish is determined by the colour of the plate, that are displayed on the wall, so you know exactly what you have to pay. The staff is polite and helpful: if you want a dish in particular, let them know and they will prepare it for you. The food is fresh, delicious and good value for money, especially when compared to larger chains like Yo Sushi and has a large selection of authentically Japanese dishes: maki, sashimi, seaweed, fried aubergines, miso soup, etc. Green tea is also available at will :)

Phil T.

Yelp
Don't let the conveyor belt fool you, this is no Yo! If, like some older reviews suggest, the quality of the food ever did take a dip, those days am to be long gone. You will find a lot of less common and interesting dishes on the best many more mainstream places won't bother with. The fish is of superb quality and every plays only leaves you wanting for more. Highly recommended.

Jess C.

Yelp
Now being half asian I am always critical towards this cuisine and will always refuse a chinese takeaway or Yo! sushi at that. Kulu Kulu hits the spot when having a sushi craving (almost all the time). The prices are pretty good and the place always seems busy....staff however are a little absent but I suppose since you are seated by a conveyer belt; what more can they do if you get the delight of picking up any priced plate you want. For the price and a quick fix I recommend.

Emily T.

Yelp
Unassuming place - you first enter and its a little run down, nothing fancy at all. Self service unlimited green tea...we sit by the conveyor belt and see all the different sushi / sashimi / tofu and other options come out and it's fantastic. Cheap as well - would definitely go back. Great for a cheap, quick feed.

Maria V.

Yelp
Blehhhh. The cuts here were really mediocre -- I've noticed sushi in the UK is *not cheap* -- not in that I'm-a-Yank-and-the-dollar/pound-exchange-is-terrible kind of not cheap, but rather, compared to what it SHOULD cost and what you're getting for what you're paying for, sushi is a bit pricey! I don't mind shelling out for good sushi, mind you, but when the plates come 'round and the maki is all coming undone and wasn't really rolled well to begin with, and the sashimi is cut so poorly you wonder when last they sharpened their knives, you start to feel sad that this passes for decent sushi in such an amazing city like London. Perhaps the other Kulu Kulu locations are better but this place does not impress. Leave it for the tourists and go elsewhere.

Juncal P.

Yelp
Not a bad place for sushi in London.... good location and not too pricey, nothing fancy though. Complimentary self service green tea, saves you a few bucks in drinks

Carmela S.

Yelp
I'm getting really into sushi at the moment and was a bit disappointed with this place! The menu is very small, the miso soup was pretty plain and just a bit of a bland experience!

Jinny N.

Yelp
I'm surprised at the overall low rating for Kulu Kulu. I really like it here. Knowing it gets busy here, I usually come for late lunch or early dinner. It's a no frills conveyor belt establishment, you help yourself to green tea and ask the chefs behind the counter if you want anything not on the conveyor belt ie. hand rolls. I could live on these hand rolls especially the soft shell crab ones. They are definitely worth the wait as they are made fresh. My word of caution is you really don't have to greedy grab here as the portions are quite generous say compared to Yo Sushi, so sit back, relax a watch beautiful sushi move before your eyes.

Rich N.

Yelp
REVIEWING FOR TAKEAWAY. I've not yet sat in Kulu Kulu for lunch, but I have grabbed takeaway a couple of times on the way back to the office. For that, it's a really great little find. The sushi is fresh and generous, with much larger portions than you'll find in your average Itsu, Wasabi, etc. Much tastier than the usual takeaway places too! You can definitely taste how freshly prepared the food is. The other advantage is the speed of service, I've been in a couple of times and usually my order is ready in under 5 mins. As for price, today I bought 8 nigiri pieces ( 4 salmon, 4 tuna). and 4 pieces of salmon sashimi for just over £10. Rolls (8 pieces) are priced at around £7-8. Smaller individual portions are available around the £2-3 mark.

Qype User (Sally_…)

Yelp
You don't come here for ambience.you come for the FISH! As everyone agrees, I think this is the best value kaiten in London - hand rolls are awesome especially the soft shell crab and my personal fave - the salmon skin handroll. I love that you help yourself to green tea - no waving at people or pushing silly buttons.you sometimes have to queue and it's NO place to have a private conversation - just watch the yummies go by your nose and enjoy!

Adam F.

Yelp
Love the jumbo size sushi. You definitely get your money's worth and the sushi tastes really good. Only comment is that the California Roll has more avocado than crab, should be the other way around.

Qype User (shoe…)

Yelp
Really great, fresh and tasty sushi. Just come feeling healthy and full. Miso soup, salmon sushimi, lots of sushi rolls all so very fresh. If you like sushi you have to try it!

Qype User (Karim9…)

Yelp
This place looked a little grubby on seeing it from the outside, but hey, initial expectations aside, I have to say it's really great. If you know your sushi and sashimi, then this place easily out-does fancier joints like Yo-Sushi simply because their ingredients seem fresher: the ginger is more moist and the wasabi is less flaky. Add in the 'cute' factor of everyone sitting around the small conveyor belt, encouraging conversation, the free green tea and the relatively good value compared to the larger chains, you couldn't really wish for a more authentic or bustling sushi experience - just remember to help yourself.

Qype User (humano…)

Yelp
Great sushi for reasonable prices! Often very busy, so try to avoid peak hours.

Qype User (chebe…)

Yelp
Kulu Kulu is this tiny restaurant near Regent Street, blink and you miss it. When I first went there, I confess I felt a bit lost: it was like everyone there was a member of a club in which I was trying to infiltrate. But ok, intuitively I've found the chopsticks, the ginger and the wasabi - it's all about helping yourself. There are some tables but you want to sit next to the conveyor belt and wait anxiously for what's coming next: salmon sushi, slices of pineapple or tuna niguiri? Everything tastes fresh and delicious and they charge according to the saucer you get - prices go from £1,20 up to £3,60. At the end there was a pile of them! You can also have some green tea for free.

Qype User (Magicf…)

Yelp
Eating at Kulu Kulu truly reminds me of how eating sushi was like in Tokyo. Simple, cheap, and ideal for lunches. Feeling peckish for some noodles or some sushi, but don't want to go to a fancy restaurant, because its just you, or pay the ridiculous price at Yo sushi, or food from Wasabi, because its too cold outside, then this place is ideal.

Qype User (Lucy…)

Yelp
My favourite sushi place in London - excellent food, reasonable prices, and it feels very authentic. There's a couple of other Kulu Kulu's around, but I have found the Brewer St one is the best.

Qype User (Flicke…)

Yelp
Much as others have said, this is like a more authentic Yo Sushi. There is a wide variety of dishes on the conveyerbelt from a delicious cooked aubergine plate, to oysters, scallop nigiri and then more ordinary items such as salmon nigiri. Like Yo Sushi, plates are priced based on patterns, although Yo Sushi has a simpler colour scheme. It's self service with free Green tea and you have little boxes dotted around the seating area with soy sauce, wasabi, ginger and chopsticks. You do sometimes have to queue for a seat but once you sit down, you can be in and out very quickly; it's up to you how fast really. I ended up with a stack of plates by my side, and was in and out, about £17 down, within about 20 minutes but satisfied and full.

Qype User (Caffem…)

Yelp
One of my usual sushi bar in London... This place is not a place that offer a perfect sushi, but it does offer you a reasonable price of sushi. I just love the ambiance in this place after i get out from work, i dont have to be formal or anything here. Most of people you will meet are students and some tourists who you will never see them again anyways, so give this place a try. It's not that bad.

NatnatBites n.

Yelp
I had high hopes for Kulu Kulu espsially as their entire front window is covered in recommendations from respectable publications but my experience was one of indifference. This tiny sushi eatery has certainly had it's day, the decor is tired and the venue looked messy. The food although very fresh was poorly presented and the service although smiley was unattentive. This is a short and simple review much like my visit of which there won't be a second.

Qype User (TheLon…)

Yelp
Kulu Kulu Sushi is a great Sushi restaurant. I will recommend it to one and all for the all famous Sushi delivered here.

Qype User (lauran…)

Yelp
This is a brilliant Japanese restaurant hidden down a back road near Piccadilly tube station. The dishes are served on a moving conveyor belt so you sit where there is a space and scoff to your heart is content, and your tummy is very full; no need to wait to order or your food to be delivered! Also on the conveyor belt is a good selection of vegetables (spinach, aubergine, Edamame) and fruit for pudding. Prices are done according the design on the plate of food that you pick; they are clearly marked on the wall. You can see into the kitchen depending on where you sit, and also the fish dishes are prepared in front of you and the conveyor belt is topped up regularly. This place can get quite busy.

Yelp
Get here early for an excellent Japanese restaurant in a great location. Some of the best Sushi in town.

Yelp
The anticipation of waiting for your favorites as they travel along a conveyor belt makes for a fun sushi meal. The sushi, while not great, does the job. I would recommend over Yo Sushi for the food but not for the space. A little cramped but worth a visit.

Yelp
Jolly good sushi plus other small dishes. Simple, easy, good. Free green tea, Sashimi available on request.

Yelp
I love Kulu Kulu. It seems like a Japanese 'caff' as it looks a bit grubby. Sometimes there's a queue to be seated, especially early Friday nights and Saturday lunchtimes. Beware, it is closed on Sundays. However, all these factors just point to how formidable the food is. This sushi, prepared in front of you and delivered by conveyor belt, comes with no gimmicks, so taking a sushi novice there is a bit tough at first. There is a great selection of dishes, and the portions are really big compared to chain competitors' dismal offerings. There is a great sense that the food is fresh and the authenticity of the place as a real Japanese joint is not only bolstered by the presence of Japanese customers, but by the drink-all-you-can green tea. I've been about 15 times in the past year, it's probably the best place in Soho to meet someone before going to the cinema, or for a quick meal after work. You eat as much as you want (providing you can accommodate the low prices as emblazoned on colour co-ordinated plates on the walls), for as long as you want, and the staff are very adept at arranging bills separately so there's none of that 'well I ate this and you ate that so that means you owe this and you owe that' nonsense that always seems to tarnish a meal, if not a friendship. It's also a great place to go on your own, especially if you happen to have friends who are embarrassingly bad with chopsticks, or don't understand the delights of tubs of pickled ginger and wasabi, or a condiment called 'Bull-Dog' sauce. That said, it's not so great nearer to closing time with a big group of people. I did this recently and the food selection wasn't that great (no soy aubergine! no katsu chicken! no potato salad!?) and the staff took a while to split a bill between 6 people including a couple of bottles of wine. They took it in good spirit when my friend started taping their tips to the tip bowl, though. They are also great at helping you sort out a takeaway, letting you grab plates of food which they wrap up for you.
