I had been wanting to try out Kumo for quite a while now after seeing Instagram reels of their fruit sandos. I am so glad I finally got the opportunity to do so.
Starting off with the shop itself, Kumo is not like a typical restaurant or cafe in that there is essentially no seating available inside of the shop. Instead, there are tables right outside that I believe are shared between Kumo and the other restaurants of the plaza. Therefore, I did not have a problem with the seating situation at Kumo.
Onto the food, itself... My goodness. First, I did not know that they had savory sandwich options. I initially believed that they only sold the viral Japanese fruit sandwiches. When we saw the katsu option on the menu, we just had to try it out. We ordered the fruit & cream (original) sandwich as well as the katsu combo, which comes with the sandwich, salad, and milk tea. Both sandwiches exceeded my expectations. Three words to describe the fruit & cream sandwich: light, sweet, and fruity. The cream just paired so well with the soft bread and fruits. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that the fruits were not at all sour. The katsu sandwich is indescribable. I am a huge fan of katsu, but I never imagined the possibility of consuming it in sandwich form. At first I was a bit wary, but after my first bite, I was extremely excited for more. The contrast between the crispy and crunchy katsu with the soft white bread did wonders. I was not a huge fan of the salad, but the sandwich was well worth it.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Kumo to friends visiting the San Diego area. The sandwiches are a bit on the pricier side (especially the fruit sandwich), but it is worth it to try it at least once.
