"The inside of KungFood Chu’s AmerAsia is a neon-tinged ode to anime and kung fu movies. The Asian fusion restaurant, from veteran chef Rich Chu and his son Johnny Chu, serves some fare familiar from pan-Chinese eateries, peppered with standout dishes like zonxon noodles, a take on the Cincinnati-style chili three-way but made with lo mein noodles and topped with a rich minced pork sauce, peanuts, cucumber, and cilantro. There’s also an old-school Taiwanese imperial beef stew served with cabbage, tomato, and lo mein in a spicy beef and tomato broth." - Andy Brownfield

4 of us ate here on a Friday evening while cycle touring. We all had appetizers, drinks, and entrees. Though not expensive or “fine dining”, all of us agreed that this is an exceptionally good and well-balanced restaurant. One of the best, and cycle touring has given us the full range. All staff cheerful, helpful, well-informed, and handoff well. Perfectly seasoned, delicious, and healthy meals. Very interesting decor, lively and happy patrons, background music well chosen and at right volume for conversation. Highly recommended!

Google
Excellent food, great table service and the food came out super fast. The sesame chicken level 3 was perfect. Level 4 is where the heat really begins. The apps are fantastic as well. The pork egg roll and dumplings were delicious. Definitely will be returning.

Google
I got chicken and mixed vegetables and the big Bertha egg roll, the egg roll was tasty but the veggie version was very one note and tasted mostly of cabbage. It would be nice if they modified the mix with some different things like shredded carrots or something. Everything was very tasty and it was a nice bar with a very neat atmosphere

Google
I really enjoyed my lunch. The service was phenomenal!!!! The food was very good. And I love the fact that they let you choose your spice level because unlike everyone else these days I am not a fan of heat. Lol.

Google
Stumbled on this place. Somewhat Eclectic … great menu, staff was helpful, heat scale was 1-10, 2 is mild, I ordered 5…was perfect but beware any higher you go. Ordered beef stew…outstanding 👍🏼highly recommend

Google
By far one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The imperial beef stew was out of this world delicious. It was piping hot and wonderfully spicy. I didn't want to stop eating. The service was great and had very neat decor.

Google
Spicy but tasty. This restaurant offers a great experience with an amazing atmosphere! The food is delicious and the staff is very friendly and attentive! The food does have a spice levels that you can tailor per order! They do it by a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the spiciest! Will definitely return but lower the spice levels on my order haha!

Google
First time visit and it was great, Very friendly staff and quite knowledgeable. If you I form about fish allergies they work with you. Thank you for an Amazing meal.

Yelp
This place is great! It seems to me the interior is an homage to Kung Fu movies from past. We ordered lunch from here. Wife got the noodles, and I got the dumplings and Kung pao chicken with a side of Hot and Sour soup. The dumplings were great, good sized and very tasty. The chicken was really good. You can order spice levels depending on how spicy you want it. (I got a 2 and it was a decent level of spice. I don't even want to know what the 10 is lol). Overall a good place to eat and best Asian food I have had in a long time!

Matt S.

Yelp
This small, tight table, busy location serves up some of the best and, if wanted, spiciest Asian food that I have found in greater Cincinnati. Entrees are good and filling. Highly recommend ordering a second to take for lunch the next day.

Lou M.

Yelp
Absolutely AMAZING! Outstanding service! Water right away drinks with in 10 minutes, server checked on us every 10 minutes. I mentioned this because hotty tooty places are supposedly the best service. This staff is a thousand times better, Jeff send your trainers here and realize what service really means! Beer menu, I would come here just for that. so I haven't mentioned food. Every aspect of our meal was delicious. My friend had cashew chicken and I had kung pow chicken, delicious! I have been eating here off and on for 30 years. I'm not sure if it's the same owner. Just from the beginning this was the place. Not only that the staff were friendly and knowledgeable and attentive for a busy lunch.

Lauren F.

Yelp
Great lunch options and value. Very busy little spot that you could easily miss if you're not careful. Fun interior and very kind staff.

Abby G.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in NKY! Everything is fantastic, but the hot and sour soup is incredible. We also checked out their sister coffee shop KungBrew and loved their matcha.

Rachel K.

Yelp
Kung Food Chu's has had a real glow up over the last few years- it may have been longer but living in California I don't get to visit as often as I'd like. It's still a super popular spot, but now it has a lot more seating than I remember. They also have a waitlist that you can get on that helps when you visit at their more busy times. You really can't go wrong with any of their food. The Big Bertha Egg Roll and really any of their dumplings and potstickers are a must. So tasty. The Generals Chicken and Chow Fun are also some of my favorite items to order. I would suggest going or getting takeout with friends and ordering a bunch of items to enjoy family style. It's the best way to find your favorites and get a little bit of everything.

Brenda B.

Yelp
If you like a skillfully designed restaurant with great aesthetics and kicking food, this is the place for you! They have a unique spice scale with ranges (1 to 3, 4 to 6, and 7 to 10) correlating to a different hot added to the dish. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I ordered the Mongolian Beef, Good Pot Stickers, and Crab Rangoon. All were tasty. We visited again at lunchtime, and their customer service is top-notch!

Christian B.

Yelp
Never disappointing! Still one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Food was great, friendly service and cool atmosphere. Check it out and enjoy the delicious food!

Scott K.

Yelp
Good place to grab a bite on short notice. Had better but have had worse so it ranks in the "I will eat there again" category

H T.

Yelp
Amazing entrees, but subpar apps. The group I went with raved about their apps like the crab rangoon, spring roll, etc. from prior visits but unfortunately our orders of each were super over cooked and fried too hard. Service was super nice and fast for them being so busy! Will definitely go back for the orange chicken.

Megan H.

Yelp
Always amazing food and service. Tried something new and couldn't be happier. Was advised you can also change the specifics to your liking. Imperial beef stew for the win!

Erika G.

Yelp
Oh boy this place is a hidden gem in Covington KY! This place is spectacular. It is so super cute. All the fun Kung Foo photos. Now let's talk about service! The staff was so inviting and happy to see us. They explained the menu and we got right to ordering. The food was full of flavor and soul. My taste buds were going bananas. We left with enough food for another day. Absolutely delicious ! If you're ever in Cincinnati /Covington Ky Riverfront area please stop in!!!!

Vivian W.

Yelp
We came here on Chinese New year Eve for dinner to celebrate the Chinese new year with some Chinese food. I picked this one only because it has a cold beef salad, and i hope to get some cold beef shank slice. It's pretty good, with a lot of leak and onion. We also ordered Sichuan beef and husband got something else. I got 4 spicy level, and husband is too aggressive to get 6, i guess it's a bit too much for him! The hot and sour soup is very so so, not authentic, too sweet. Overall, i think this restaurant is more American Chinese food.

Shantell P.

Yelp
A great spot with wide menu variety. Been trying to make it here for a while, but every time I came it was jam-packed. Stopped in one early afternoon and was lucky enough to score a spot at the bar! So just keep in mind you may have to wait to sit, and plan accordingly. The bartender was super helpful helping us choose our meals. Also, pro tip: ask for the menu book with photos so you can see all the dishes before ordering! We needed up with two types of noodles, both equally delicious and filling. Two things they do not skimp on: portions and spice! I would make this a stop for when you have a craving for some Asian classics

Bob S.

Yelp
My family enjoyed a wonderful meal here. I found it on Yelp and looked like a fun place to eat while in the area and it was indeed fun and delicious. We had the Big Bertha egg roll, hot & sour soup, steamed dumplings, chicken on a stick, get in my belly pork and Matt Chu's special. The pork belly was a huge plate and we loved it! The Matt Chu's special was tasty and the rice cake slices made a great starchy noodle that we really enjoyed (much like Korean tteokbokki). The hot and sour soup was more of a sweet and sour soup. I do wish it had a bit more vinegar in it, but it was still super tasty. The Big Bertha egg roll was a good egg roll, only bigger. The chicken on a stick was well seasoned, but it really needed something on it. Some fried scallions and green onions would have been great or a dipping sauce. The dumplings were the bomb! Overall it was very good and if we lived around here we'd be regulars. The service was great and the atmosphere is so fun!!!

Yelp
If you're in Covington or nearby and you're undecided about where to eat, you just can't go wrong with anything on the menu at Kung Food. I've been multiple times and tried different dishes, and all are consistently delicious and generously portioned.

Frank T.

Yelp
I was looking for pork belly and I found it here. Dropped in for lunch. Got fried rice with it. A little syrupy but huge portion size. Nice and fatty. It's a feature not a flaw.

Norm T.

Yelp
One of my go to places for Chinese food in the area. Portions are sharable and have good flavors. They offer pictures for their dishes for people who aren't familiar with that dishes are what. Service can be a hit or miss at times when it's busy. Walked in on a slow lunch day and had a few servers just starring at us while they conversated at the bar before greeting us a few minutes later saying to sit anywhere. Eventhough we made eye contact. Guess they had to finish their conversation before approaching us. The decor is fun and tastful with some throw back memorabilias. I do enjoy coming here and recommend it.

Meera K.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite Asian restaurants and our go to order is the how fun noodles and the general chu orange tofu. But we switched out the generals for some mapo tofu and It was delish! The sauce is more on the salty side but it's packed with vegetables which I really like. Otherwise I always have to add extra veggies to other dishes. It was pretty busy as usual so definitely recommend joining the waitlist on google as you are approaching the restaurant or once you arrive there is a QR code right inside the restaurant to add yourself that way. A lot of people didn't know and we're just waiting in the galley area and might have missed out on an earlier seat. We like heat so we ordered spice levels 4 and 5. I swear they get spicier overnight so beware when you take extra home for leftovers!

Josh G.

Yelp
The dining room is small, but if you have to wait it is well worth it. Their beer menu is pretty extensive, and I had a Monocle draft which was some sort of fruit beer. It was actually really sweet and tasted almost more like a sparkling wine than a beer. It was perfect because I knew I was going to order something spicy... we started our meal with crab Rangoon. It was delicious. You could tell they were made fresh in the back and not from some random frozen bag. The chili sauce it came with almost had a bit of a tomato flavor to it which made it unique to the standard thai sweet chili sauce. For entrees, my wife ordered the garlic chicken and I ordered Mongolian beef. The spice levels are spicier than normal restaurants in my opinion, so where I would normally order a 7 or 8 on a scale of 1-10 spicy, the 5 I ordered on my Mongolian beef had plenty of heat. My nose was running a little bit, but I could still taste all the flavors and not just fire. My wife's garlic chicken was absolutely amazing. She ordered spice level 3, which is made with chili oils (at level 5 they're using habanero as their chili in the sauce). Her dish was so delicious, it made me second guess my choice. Until I took another bite of mine. There were at least four more things on the menu I wanted to try (pad thai, Szechuan chicken, cashew chicken, and pepper steak all stood out on the menu) plus the garlic chicken my wife had... we will definitely be back.

Mary Kay H.

Yelp
OMG so good! Clean, fun atmosphere, friendly waitress/bar tender, quick delicious food. What more could you want? Had the Dragons Breath wontons and How Fun noodles. Wontons were spicy and flavorful and I ate all 6. The noodles were excellent. Homemade style, thick and chewy but the sauce was caramelized umami. Took 2/3 to go to have on the plane for dinner tonight. When I'm back in CVG I'll come here for sure.

Yelp
In summary, good food, nice ambiance, friendly service, but poorly managed seating/hosting. Food: tasty, fresh ingredients, kitchen was operating well - not too fast or slow. Can customize spice level and protein in all dishes. Service: Sat at the bar. Bartender was slammed but was friendly and attentive. Vibes: casual, cool art on the walls. There is a large back waiting area that is a "market" and carry out area. They might want to consider expanding their restaurant seating into this space and shrinking the footprint of this area. Why this isn't a five star review: It was a Saturday night and they were slammed. Great for them, and it signaled that the food is really good. When we arrived, a server pointed us to a QR code to add our name, and told us it would be 20-25 minutes. We waited out front on the sidewalk with several other parties. After an hour of waiting, we started walking to the carry out area to place food order to go. As we walked past a group of 3-4 got up from the bar. We moved some stools around and squeezed our five in. From there we could tell how poorly the seating was managed. There was a party of five ahead of us. But the party wasn't all there. They seated 2, and the other three didn't show up for another 15-20 minutes. This is while we were waiting. There are some high top seats around the window, but instead of seating parties from the waiting list system, they were letting walk-ins grab those places. That area would have accommodated our group a couple times during our wait with any minor bit of management. Anyway, food was great, restaurant was clean, and service/kitchen seemed to be operating well. But they missed some business by not managing their seating system very well, as we saw a number of parties either give up on their wait or come and leave after learning of the wait time.

Yelp
KungFood Amerasia is a real awesome spot to check out. They got drinks and a fun atmosphere. On top of that their food is so VIBRANT AND FLAVORFUL! We got the Pepper Steak and Hunan Chicken, both came with a side of rice and there was definitely no leftovers at all. They do have a 1-10 spicy scale and thank goodness I asked cause I went for a 2, which was chili oil, and although I think I could have gone higher I really enjoyed my food so it didn't faze me. On the other hand, for those that like to test their limit, their 7 is ghost peppers and 7+ I was told is just more ghost peppers. I can't wait to go back and try other things on their menu!

Hile E.

Yelp
I was really excited to try Kung Food Chu's AmerAsia. I heard so many good things from multiple friends that this was the place to try if searching for Asian food in the Cincinnati area. I order the orange chicken and a side of lomein. While I thought the lomein was tasty, the orange chicken was not what I expected. The flavor was off and the dish contained vegetables you typically don't find in orange chicken. I was left pretty disappointed. In retrospect I should have tried a different dish that was a more popular item so I'll likely give this spot a chance in the future if I find myself in the area again.

Daniel G.

Yelp
Our go-to spot for Americanized Asian food. The orange chicken, Mongolian beef, crab rangoons, and Dynamite spring roll are our favorites.

Amanda F.

Yelp
Love this place. It doesn't matter if you are getting food to go or sitting down at the restaurant it's always warm and delicious! They always pack fortune cookies and sauces so you have everything you would need to enjoy your meal! Have come multiple times and will be back again!

Jason R.

Yelp
Food is amazing every time! Great friendly service, and the play kung fu while you're eating what more could you ask for in ambiance!

Rick H.

Yelp
I've walked past Kung Food many times, but it always struck me as too cheesy to take seriously. Looking over their dishes on Yelp today, I decided to give it a try. I wasn't disappointed. Yes, the decor is tacky, but in a tongue-in-cheek way. The service was prompt, friendly and really top notch (thanks Kurt!). Alright, the food can't compete with Hong Kong, Sydney Chinatown (or any Chinatown, really) but my bowl of Imperial beef stew was large, flavorful and didn't skimp on ingredients. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would certainly eat here again.

George D.

Yelp
Now, if you go here, the inside dining experience is much different than the takeout experience so I highly recommend that you come to the restaurant and dine in to eat. It was such a pleasurable experience. The serice was great, and I have to say the food was definitely amazing with a different twist. The decor of the restaurant was beautiful and overall just a great atmosphere ever since I've been I've been coming down once or even twice a week.

Meghan T.

Yelp
This place is AWFUL! EVERYTHING tastes like peppers... Horribly, sort of rotten peppers. And the egg rolls tastes like cleaning chemicals... Not dish soap, but something else. This meal made two of us puke!! Worst $50 ever spent!

Janice K.

Yelp
This place is amazing. First of all, the wait staff was incredible. We had a party of 10 people and they bent over backwards to get us all seated together. This was difficult considering it is not a super large place. Not only that our waitress Abby was so calm, courteous, and attentive. Again when dealing with a large group that was amazing. Besides all of that great stuff, our food was hot and yummy. I got the dragon breath dumplings, and the garlic chicken. They were both delicious. In fact, everyone at our table loved their meals (even the kids). The prices were also very reasonable. Our waitress Abby was great at explaining the spice levels, and without us asking, brought extra hot oils to our table in case we wanted to add more. To top everything off the atmosphere is so upbeat, and crazy cool. I can't say enough good things about this place. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

Allie W.

Yelp
Best Asian food in Covington. Never disappoints. Fast and delicious! Love their crab Rangoon.

Chad P.

Yelp
I'm bummed it took me this long to finally review this place. I came last late spring when it was hot and sticky outside and had some great food out on their little side patio. You have to go in and order and they'll bring it out to you but that's the only table service they give outside. Very spicy just how I like it but the weather didn't make it easy Came back recently and just enjoyed it just as much inside. I had the Kung Pao chicken, which does sound kind of basic but it was amazing! I got it pretty spicy which if I could go back, I would make it probably a two instead of a three. The three was pretty spicy for me. Crab rangoon was also good and service was great. Can't argue with this place at all. Just some great American Chinese food.

Nick P.

Yelp
Only gotten takeout because its typically packed (and I enjoy the walk). Foods phenomenal, you may never order from another Chinese restaurant after having them. Dont say you weren't warned.

Sherry A.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite go to places for Kung Pao Chicken. Great, friendly and efficient service. Dinner won't break the bank, and most importantly, the food is delicious. The space is fun with tables set up against a long wall and bar seating. Full service bar with unique rotating cocktails.

Chelle M.

Yelp
This joint is worth a visit just based on the aesthetics alone. Diners are bathed in the glow of all of the various neon lights that adorn the walls. Now, for the food. We weren't crazy hungry, so we decided to split an order of potstickers and a dish of the General's Chicken but swapped out the cucumber for broccoli and ordered a level 1 spice since e the other person I was dining with doesn't like spicy foods. The potstickers were fantastic. My second fave in the city (and that's saying something!). The pan-fried wrap was a thick and doughy, and the the meat was super flavorful. The General's chicken sauce was sweet and sticky with the teensiest bit of heat. I dipped my chicken and broccoli in some of the hot mustard provided on the table to reach my preferred heat level.

Nanette B.

Yelp
Since moving to Covington, I've enjoyed two meals at Kung Food Chu's AmerAsia and I can assure you I will be back. The restaurant itself is fun with cool decorative touches including vintage Kung Fu movies on the TVs. The whimsical menu features inspired choices like Sesame Street Chicken, Brocco-Lee and Big Bird's Nest. Fun aside, the food is GOOD, the servings are generous and the bar has interesting choices available (great beer selection, wine not so great since it's likely not ordered that often and what was in the open bottle tasted vinegary). Favorite things thus far include the Crab Rangoon, Big Bertha Egg Roll, Mongolian Beef and Sesame Street Chicken. My kid's chicken Lo Mein dish was awesome, too. You get to choose your spice level on the dishes, which the attentive servers explain well. Recommended.

Sheryar K.

Yelp
Sat at the bar and got some recommendations from the bartender and ended up getting the shrimp fried rice on a heat level 8/10. and needless to say i was sweating! their chili oil is no joke! but it's the spice where you want to keep eating it.

Jennifer I.

Yelp
- ordered the chicken fly rice with a level 4 For heat - he ordered the how-fun with chicken with a spice level of 6 - ordered a side of rice/and noodles and some sauce for our kiddo for dinner as we planned on leftovers and needed something with less spice. - also ordered a dynamite egg roll and pork egg roll. Okay so his dish was amazing! So much damn flavor and i ordered extra noodles for the dish which I definitely recommend. Spice level 6 was too much for me and i love a good spice level so i mixed some of his with my rice and i really enjoyed the combo and i look forward to trying the ghost pepper level that he will get next time and i will mix with my level 3 or 4 :). He loved his dish and had it for lunch and dinner happily. Sadly, the side order of noodles (4$) didn't arrive. So we made our kiddo something else while we ate our awesome leftovers Now the egg rolls are the reason for a star lost as there's nothing special about them and i wish a place this good offered a chicken option. My husband said the dynamite egg roll was too greasy.. i didn't finish the pork one as it wasn't worth it. I ate the rice for lunch and dinner and still have some left for tomorrow... i kept adding bits of his to mine. We will definitely order again. And while we didn't receive an item I went through the ubereats app and they refunded it immediately. I will definitely try to order them on the side again as i loved their noodles.. and rice! We will Probably go to the restaurant next times

Betsy B.

Yelp
This place is such a gem! The food is authentic and fresh, the staff are so friendly and helpful, and the service is always fast(especially the carry out).

Jake F.

Yelp
The decor and service were awesome! I enjoyed my meal (I got the sesame chicken) , but I would warn you not to order anything over a 5/10 on the heat level unless you REALLY love spice. I ordered mine at a 7/10 and I had to power through to finish it.

Kathy H.

Yelp
I use to love this place prior to the pandemic. Now it's not the same.. no flavor in the fried rice and the General Chicken was fried to hard.

Morgan W.

Yelp
I haven't gotten anything bad here yet, though if you want to experience the food (particularly the tofu proteins) you have to come in and sit down. Dining in is not much of a chore cause the service is great and they have great beers on tap. The atmosphere is fun and remembering all the great kung fu films they pay homage to with their murals is a game in and of itself. Would absolutely recommend - it's the best Chinese in the cincy/NKY area as a non native used to Sichuan style Chinese food who loves spice.

Marie E.

Yelp
Atmosphere is lively and relaxing. Food is incredibly comforting. Good beer selection. On repeat for us. Who was that sad person that gave them only 4 stars 9 years ago? Older and wiser. Also 3 is plenty. 4 is a push.

Julie H.

Yelp
This is the second time I've gotten takeout, and it's been so spicy. It's uneatable! I ordered a 5 the first time and a 2 spice level the second. There's really no difference! For 1 entrée and an egg roll, it was $25 And I can't even eat this! Plus side- the young lady at the counter was friendly and pleasant, and the wait was short

Janet M.

Yelp
I am really sad to put this review up this was our absolute go to restaurant, but last nights takeout was so not to their previous standard. Actually the last couple of times so here it is ... two orders of fried rice came in two different sizes ?!? One smaller than the other same except combo. And howfun was chicken not pork and had no favor. Dumplings sauce small container was less than half full enough for maybe 2-3 Come on guys.... Bring it back.... Your legacy is looking sad remodel is pretty but quality is slipping

Josh J.

Yelp
Overall a great little Chinese restaurant with some real character! Cool decor and attentive staff, and good food to round it all out. I got the Sesame Chicken, egg roll, fried rice, and crab rangoon, and all were excellent. Would definitely come back here again!

Gina H.

Yelp
Absolutely the very best Chinese American food! So fresh and delicious! Try the sweet and sour, you will not be disappointed! The Hunan chicken is the best I've ever tasted!

Alistair S.

Yelp
i really liked the szechwan beef and ordered hot and sour. I wasn't a big fan of the soup it was a little too sweet for me.

Sherry M.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent service! I was with a group of 6, ai had the bird's nest; presentation was beautiful, tasted fantastic! More food than I could finish!
