Kura seems to be everywhere, and is consistently good. The five of us came for lunch on a weekday. It wasn't too crowded, so didn't need to use the app to reserve our place in line (which is what you need to do for Kura in LA). We were seated in a deep booth so plenty of space, but the two sitting the most in (and closest to the conveyor belt), needs to place the orders and distribute the food. There are two conveyor belts: the bottom one is constants distributing pre-made dishes that you can grab on-impulse; the top one is a dedicated belt for each table, where customized food ordered from the table kiosk will be delivered to you. We did both, and the food was solid in both cases.
Once seated, everything is done through the touchscreen. We ordered beverages (cold water and hot water), and it was promptly delivered by a self-driving robot. The water was filled occasionally by actual humans. Kura has a large non raw fish menu (all ordered through the touchscreen), and our table ordered noodle soup (udon and ramen) and dessert...all of which came promptly after ordering. The table especially loved the udon soup (good value $9 for a decent soup) and the ojyu box (tempura shrimp over terraki glazed white rice). The ramen ($9.90) was very average, the one piece of turo wasn't very good, and the taiyaki (fish shaped fried dough in a masu box $5.70 coming with vanilla ice cream and sweet red bean) was very oily (deep fried where the dough just sucked up the hot oil). In terms of sushi, I liked the tako (octopus). The portions also seem a bit bigger than Cali (especially the hand rolls which are HUGE)...definitely better value here. The entire meal for the five of us was $120 before tip.
Sometime in the past, Kura made every plate the same price ($3.25 at this location). These plates are then self-bussed by a chute at each table: it's an easy way to clear the table AND automatically count how much sushi one has eaten so far. Here in Dallas, each plate is cheaper than what we are used to, and they do seem to provide bigger portions that Cali. At every 15 plates, a free prize is given from the capsule machines that are located throughout: the theme was Demon Slayer when we were there.
There is really no reason for you to get out of your table once seated, which is the definition of a full-service restaurant, thought we rarely actually interacted directly with a person. Liked everything about this location.
