It’s this waterfall in a box canyon and it’s green year round because of some geothermal whatever and it’ll be pleasantly warm even in the dead of winter.

The trail scenery getting to this waterfall is spectacular and the walk behind waterfall was fantastic. But the best thing is that the crowds weren’t there. We did see a tour buses in the parking lot of the restaurant next to the museum but I think the walk to the falls is too far to make it there and back before the bus would leave. Make sure to pay the parking for the museum. That lets you use their water closets.

Awesome waterfalls. One of our favorites in the South Coast region. Apparently this one is often skipped by bigger tours. So if you want more quieter behind the waterfalls experience, this is definitely a must visit destination! The walk/hike to the waterfalls is also beautiful, very easy too.

Kvernufoss is one of my favourite waterfalls in Iceland. I love everything about it — the hidden trail through the canyon, and the waterfall itself. The whole environment feels like a secret spot, quiet and magical. The view is amazing, with super green patches all around, and the peaceful surroundings. The view is just breathtaking. It was so beautiful, I honestly didn’t want to leave. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something less touristy but unforgettable!

Amazing waterfall away from the crowds, definitely a hidden gem, and one of my favourites! You need to pay for parking, unlike at Skógafoss which was free, but it was worth it. The trail to the waterfall is flat and took around 10-15 minutes. We saw a few goats up close near the waterfall which made the hike even more special. You can go behind the waterfall but be prepared to get wet.

For me, it was the most beautiful waterfall I've been able to admire on my trip, just the path through a small gorge, and you can even walk behind the waterfall. I was lucky and was there all alone at the time.

This was easily one of our most fav falls. Its not straightforward to find so most people stop it. The walk to the falls as well as the falls itself is stunning!

One of a lot of beautiful fosses in Iceland 🇮🇸. You have to walk a few minutes from the parking to the waterfall. I recommend hiking boots 🥾 and waterproof clothing. We were here in the middle of June and it was not crowded a few people there but absolutely nice. I highly recommend going there!

Kvernufoss is a seriously underrated gem. It’s just a short drive from Skógafoss, but feels way more peaceful and hidden away. The trail takes you through a lovely green valley, and before you know it, you’re standing right in front of this gorgeous waterfall tucked into a little canyon. You can even walk behind it for a really unique view - and the whole area is so quiet and lush it almost feels like you’ve discovered a secret. Totally worth the stop if you’re looking for something a bit off the beaten path.
