"In pretty much every Bond film, there’s a scene in a restaurant. It’s full of raised eyebrows and innuendos, the overdressed and the underdressed, and, eventually, a stern conversation with someone who wants to hoover up the sea. Or something. Only a certain type of restaurant suits this Bond scene. Kym’s is almost one of them. Kym’s is a Chinese restaurant in the City. Its aesthetic is cool and classy. Basically, they want you to picture James Bond here, at the bar, surveying the pink hued room. He’d probably be drinking a martini beneath the blossom tree, catching eyes with a maitre’d whose cheekbones are occasionally used to carve crispy pork belly. It’s that kind of place: fun and slick, but also a bit silly. And the food is exactly the same. Some of the menu will read as familiar: spring roll, crispy duck, sweet and sour ribs, char sui pork. But a lot of things at Kym’s don’t come quite as you’d expect them. Take the frisbee-sized cracker (which is a rice one rather than prawn). This thing could be weaponised in the wrong hands. But in yours it will just get happily munched. Or you’ve got the crispy duck. It arrives, controversially, unshredded. It also arrives, delightfully, with a paintbrush for the plum sauce. A flourish which is so unnecessary, it suddenly seems necessary for anything involving sauce. Will we be applying ketchup with a mini roller to our burger buns from now on? We can neither confirm nor deny. photo credit: Karolina Wiercigroch There’s so much to like here. Banquet seating made for groups, shrine-worthy sweet and sour ribs, a plate of roasted meats you’ll want to drunk DM, a sweeping staircase that looks over the room so you can pretend to be James Bond. But there’s also so much to laugh at as well. An utterly pointless lattice shield that protects a completely average spring roll, a fake cherry blossom tree towering above the bar, and a room full of suits that Bond wouldn’t be seen dead in. Sexy charm and little things aside, there are probably about five things on the menu that are truly noteworthy at Kym’s. Which means that although a lot of the food here is good, some of the unnecessary flourishes make the restaurant feel like a novelty once or twice a year job, rather than a regular. That said, price-wise, it’s decent for the City - £30 a head decent - without drinks. But once you’ve done it in a group, the £10 takeaway option is the best reason to keep coming back. It may not be the most James Bond move, but it’s the most sensible. Food Rundown Rice Cracker We’d say this is a cracking little snack, but it’s bloody enormous. It comes with a tangy ketchup that tastes a bit like the vinegary stuff you get in provincial bowling alleys. photo credit: Karolina Wiercigroch Silken Tofu with 100 Year Old Egg Surprisingly, this isn’t made from the remnants of a recently excavated student halls. The egg in this bowl of soft tofu is purposely preserved, and it tastes really quite good. You should order this. Sichuan Aubergine A tasty load of sweet, spicy, and oily aubergine. You’ve probably had something similar to this before, so if it’s one of your usual orders elsewhere, you may as well take it here. Spring Roll This roll comes in a get up even less necessary than a dog in a barbour jacket. Its crispy shell conceals an average roll. Silly. Very very silly. photo credit: Karolina Wiercigroch Sweet And Sour Pork Ribs There’s nothing unnecessary about these ribs. It’s a big old saucy pile, just how they’re meant to be. Maybe the best sweet and sour ribs we’ve had. Prawn Skewer Another thing with with a weird, protective cracker shell. These have got that Iceland, two-for-a-fiver air about them. The sort of thing your aunt stockpiles for Boxing Day. photo credit: Karolina Wiercigroch Three Treasures The star of Kym’s menu. A ménage à trois of crispy pork belly, soy chicken, and char sui pork. Undoubtedly the most satisfying threesome we’ve ever partaken in. Oh and it’s saucy. Honey mustard, ginger, and soy saucy, to be precise. photo credit: Karolina Wiercigroch Crispy Duck Who doesn’t like crispy duck? Like, seriously? If you eat meat, then you like crispy duck. And if you don’t like it, you’re weird. The plum sauce paintbrush is totally unnecessary, but it’s quite fun signing a pancake. Lamb Burger Unlike other Xi’anese lamb burgers, this lamb comes in stew-like form for you to pack the buns yourself. It’s pretty meh. The buns are stodgy, and the lamb isn’t as rich as you’d like. Pork And Shrimp ‘Bao Bao’ Sort of like Chinese baked eggs. The dumplings sit beside a fried egg and chilli mixture in a cast iron pan. It’s tastes pretty good, but won’t blow you away. photo credit: Karolina Wiercigroch Pineapple Bun A doughy pillow filled with pineapple and custard. It’s bound to end up down your shirt, as all good desserts should." - Jake Missing

Average taste, average quality, average service. However, the pineapple bun (dessert) was outstanding, hot custard and the pineapple mince came very well together. Don’t miss the pineapple bun if you visit as this may be the yummiest one across the menu.

The location is good, food itself is good, however, the service needs a lot of improvement. Serving staff needed us to remind them to bring cutlery, new plates so that remaining sauce doesn’t ruin the taste of newly arriving dish, all food arrives lukewarm or cold because i imagine they have been sitting in the kitchen waiting to be served etc. With their high price tag and image they want to portray with their decor/ambience, we hoped to have better service.

Suunday lunch is very good value. Excellent roast meats, particularly enjoyed the yellow peaches (if i remember correctly) with the duck. Dessert bun is a bit forgettable but nice enough.

Delightful Asian restaurant in Bloomberg Arcade in the City. Really enjoyed the dishes, from the small plates to the meats. Everything is sharable, and a good portion size. My favourite was probably the grilled chicken with soy, and the taro roots! Can't wait till it's operating at full service, as it's quite hard to get reservations at the moment.

Really lovely new style Chinese. We ate a lot of the items on the menu here and left absolutely stuffed! The meal is served as courses, starters, duck (or other meat), the roast meats and sides and finally dessert. Everything here should be shared, you will get to try more of the wonderful menu this way. We thoroughly enjoyed everything and I'd more than recommend the soy chicken, aubergine and the duck pancakes!

Loved the new Kym's Chinese restaurant by Andrew Wong, a great addition to the Bloomberg Arcade. Went for the Sunday Roast menu starting with the delicious Rice Cracker with Seaweed & 1908 Ketchup. For mains we had the Iberico Pork Char Sui / Honey Soy & the Slow Poached Soy Chicken / Ginger Relish which were outstanding, tasty came with Family sides of Lemongrass Salad / Peanuts / Lettuce / Chilli / Lime, Uyghur Fries / Thai Shallot / Mango Powder, Pickled Daikon / Crispy Chilli Oil / Soy, Steamed Rice & Steamed Buns which were perfect for the Iberico Pork Char Sui. For sweets we had the Hong Kong Pineapple Bun with coconut ice cream, a great ending to a perfectly balanced meal. We loved the super friendly service where our waiter explained the different dishes and stories behind some of the food. One of our favorite Chinese meals we have had and look forward to trying out other dishes over the next few weeks.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Beer on tap was nice. We loved the pork ribs, ordered it twice. So was the mushroom bun starter The lamb "burger" and crispy duck to share were great. Was a bit disappointed with the three treasure, as only the iberico pork was great, the other two were nothing special.

Beautiful interior in a great location. Food is delicious, well presented and not overpriced. Sharer portion are a little small to be shared with more than two people and even with two, you might want to get additional items.

Yelp
I have traveled London many times and was fortunate to stumble upon Kym's. This was my fortune as I have a minor addiction to Dim Sum and Kym's savory spin was unexpectedly brilliant. Victoria set the stage and steered me to a sampling that did not disappoint. Egg roll - not your typical egg roll, enshrined in a crispy rice shell, lightly fried to perfection, accompanied by a tangy sweet dipping delight. Followed by the mushroom steamed buns, and capped off by the most spectacular pork and shrimp boa boa, perfectly spicy, fully satisfying, a work of art. The service was spectacular and matched the experience. Make this a stop on your foodie tour of London.

Yelp
There really aren't enough reviews here for Kym's; This is truly a fantastic concept on traditional but refined Chinese cuisine. The night I arrived they we're pretty packed, despite the fact that it was a weekday (don't walk-in and expect to be seated, make a reservation). We had to wait a bit to get seated...by a 'bit' I mean twenty minutes, however the floor manager was awesome; she seated us at the bar and comp'd our drinks. Which by the way we're very good. The food, God, the food. It's hard to describe. The menu is fluid so I don't believe what I had a few weeks ago would still be on the menu at the time of my writing this. However I will say, if there's pork belly or duck ANYTHING then do yourself a favor and order it. The chef who manages the meats at Kym's is nothing short of a demi-god with the flavors he's able to wield from these proteins. The service here was equally satisfactory, i'm a big proponent of ones experience at a restaurant being 50% food and 50% service. They nail this here without misstep. Even with having to wait for a table; the meals that we're served coupled with the charisma of our waiter made this a one-of-a-kind experience that made this one negative experience irrelevant.

Yelp
Refined Chinese with a twist. Andrew Wong new restaurant is a hit! Good atmosphere, really like the pink darkish lighting of the place. It gives it a groovy vibe. Food wise, I wouldn't it is the best Chinese I have ever been to but it's very good food and worth going if you want upscale Chinese without the crazyness of central London/Chinatown. We shared for starters the spicy sechuan aurbergine (a must order), mushroom buns (as nice as the ones from aWong) deep fried green beans (also a must) and the crispy duck ( Im never a fan but aWong and Kym's probably have the best ones and amazing plum sauce) For mains we tried the three treasure (soya chicken, iberico pork char sui and crispy pork). I think my favourite was the crispy pork. Its a good way of tasting all the rotisserie but if you are super hungry I would recommend ordering 2 of the rotisserie separetely. As for desserts, we tried the Pineapple bun and the cherry ice cream both lovely. Awong is definitly the king of custard. although I think the custard bun from aWong just beat everything lolol.

Yelp
I've always wanted to go to A Wong, but somehow have never made it over, now being all the more difficult because it's gotten a Michelin star. So when Kym's opened in the new Bloomberg Arcade development, I knew it was the next place I had to check out in the City. I came for a weekday lunch with clients, and I think it works fairly well in that regard. We were seated downstairs in the corner and there was plenty of space. The entire upstairs section was empty, so it's probably possible to have a very private conversation if necessary. They have some roasted meats hanging in the back, in the kitchen, so you have to be comfortable with that kind of thing, but in all other respects, it's a beautiful venue, complete with a very Instagrammable cherry tree by the elegant staircase. From the small plates, we ordered the wild mushroom steamed buns and the Sichuanese spiced aubergine. Our waiter said the aubergine was his favourite, and it certainly had very complex flavours, though thankfully not too spicy. The mushroom buns are beautifully crafted so that they actually resemble a chestnut mushroom - definitely worth ordering just to see this work of art! For vegetables, we got the French bean fritters and the gai lan, both of which I would recommend. The French bean fritters were so interesting, prepared in the way you would have courgette fries, and the gai lan thankfully didn't have the wasabi flavour I was fearing. For the larger dishes, we had the three treasure, crispy duck, and pork & shrimp bao bao. I think you have to get the three treasure if you come here, which are the aforementioned roasted meats - pork belly, soy chicken, and char sui. They're cut into very delicate pieces (no worries to worry about bones) and each come with their own sauce. We also got the crispy duck, which was also a very popular dish ordered by many tables around us. You kinda have to shred it yourself, but the standout touch was that they gave you a Chinese calligraphy paintbrush with which to spread the sauce onto the pancakes. Such attention to detail! Finally, the pork & shrimp bao bao is best described like a Chinese shakshuka, with some dumplings in the middle. I've never come across a dish like it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to have it again. For dessert, we had the Hong Kong pineapple bun with custard. It was a very generous portion, and we were glad that we only ordered one between three people. Again, this was a twist on the traditional bun, which has a hatch design on the top (giving the name as it resembles a pineapple) but with a vanilla custard in the middle, where I could see the specks of vanilla. I could only eat a bite at that point, but it was delicious! Overall, I think that Kym's does a great job of delivering authentic Chinese food with their unique twist, whether it's making the buns look like mushrooms or using a more French style of custard. I wish them much success!

Yelp
Lemongrass salad, "Three Treasure" with roast chicken and pork two ways, and the Aubergine fritters to finish. All 3 were as good as it gets...this place deserves a visit no question.

Yelp
Absolutely flawless food in terms of presentation and taste. Prawn and pork skewers were both excellent as were the baobao and 3 treasures. Drinks reasonably priced and service really friendly if a touch amateurish in comparison to the quality of the food. Cannot wait to return

Yelp
Lovely experience and creative Chinese fusion cuisine. The only thing is that we kept being served with wrong dishes and some standard dishes (like traditional cantonese Charshu) are simply just too salty.
