Walking into Kyramen in Chinatown, the first thing that struck me was the honeycomb interior--such a cool design! Some of the honeycombs even have seats inside, and there are cozy booths with short curtains for privacy, which really made me feel like I was in Japan except you get to keep your shoes on.
We kicked things off with the omurice with curry sauce over rice, which I originally thought would be white rice, but to my surprise, it was fried rice! The fluffy omelet on over the rice and the added curry sauce on top was comforting, and the fried pork cutlet on the side added a nice crunch and good protein.
Next up was the takoyaki, a nostalgic street food snack that took me right back to Tokyo. The crispy outside and gooey inside, topped with mayo bonito flakes.
We also ordered the Yakitori Platter, an assortment of grilled meats and veggies on skewers. Not really my favorite but my parents liked it and the variety so you're not stuck with one kind of skewer.
For ramen, I went with the spicy tonkotsu ramen, which had just the right portion of noodles-not too much, so there was still room for all the other food. My father got the Katsuobushi Pork ramen, and he couldn't stop raving about it! He said the broth was incredibly rich and flavorful, though the noodles reminded him of instant ramen (but in the best way possible). He declared it delicious.
One of the fun surprises of the night was discovering the Slurp & Win promotion at the bottom of the ramen bowl. We ended up winning a free lemonade, it made our experience at Kyramen much more fun!
For dessert, we had the cherry blossom jelly, a light and refreshing palate cleanser, followed by the matcha pudding, which was the perfect creamy and slightly bitter-sweet way to end the meal.
Overall, Kyramen is a must-visit for anyone craving a cozy Japanese atmosphere and solid comfort food.
