"If you spend a lot of time around USC, there’s about a 1% chance you’ve never heard of La Barca. So we’ll keep this short: All. Of. The. Margaritas. And melted cheese on top of everything. That’s really all we can remember about it anyway." - amy clark, katherine lewin

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food with top tier quality, please make the trip here. The food is flavorful and abundant, and the service is top notch. Food came out fresh and didn’t take forever to come out. My family thoroughly enjoyed this.

Google
A bit overhyped in my opinion. The food was okay a bit too salty for every one on the table, ordered chicken, beef and shrimp. The meat was overcooked to the point of being chewy. The shrimp was cleaned (de-veined) which I appreciated but overcooked to the pony of being a bit bitter from how charred it was. My friend had food spilled on him and the food took very long to get to us. We were content but will not be coming back.

Today I place a phone order for two STEAK colossal burritos With no beans no onions and two margaritas blended. The lady that took my order I knew she sounded confused because she kept repeating pork I said no to STEAK colossal burritos with no onions, no beans, remind you I’ve been getting this burrito for about seven years when the first price was around 1314 bucks . When I finally made it home thinking I was going to enjoy my burritos like I always do. I cut them open and they are both made with shredded beef when I gave La Barca a call. The same girl that took my order, answered the phone she saying well on the receipt it says beef shredded beef, I stated that’s funny because the same receipt I have have no meat at all. It just says two colossal burritos and two margaritas. I asked to speak to manager she said the manager was too busy. I believe he is a supervisor by the name of Mario, one young lady got on the phone they’re really trying to help me because I told them I don’t live local or live in LA I live in Hesperia California, anyone that knows that’s on the way going to Vegas . this rule supervisor got on the phone and said I should stay then what steak do I want? I said steak and steak just like I wanna I always call out order a steak colossal burrito that’s what I get. I said steak sounds nothing like shredded beef this supervisor told me is nothing to be done. Just bring them back in, I reminded them over something that was not my fault what they give me something more than that to return this on a day that I will arrive back to LA. They said no he goes back-and-forth with me and hangs up. Labarca will never get another dime for me. I am very disappointed .

Google
Always a really good time for some Mexican food. Really good value for the amount and quality of food you get. Never have a bad order here and I can recommend everything here without hesitation. Also, the drinks that they make are pretty strong. Definitely recommend going with the blended margaritas as they tend to be a bit stronger. Decent happy hour deals as well. I would come here for drinks from time to time. Also the free chips are fire

Google
The most delicious and authentic Mexican cuisine! I had the chicken enchiladas with the red sauce and the chicken was so tasty and favorable. And you cannot beat the price of the food as well! The service is fast and efficient. It is a quaint and cute establishment but all the staff was very friendly and helpful!

Google
La Barca Mexican Restaurant is a fantastic spot for anyone looking for an authentic Mexican dining experience. From the moment you walk in, the warm and inviting atmosphere makes you feel right at home. The staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring that your dining experience is enjoyable from start to finish. The menu offers a wide variety of classic Mexican dishes, each prepared with fresh ingredients and bursting with flavor. Whether you're in the mood for sizzling fajitas, savory enchiladas, or a hearty burrito, there's something for everyone. The portions are generous, and the presentation is always on point. What really sets La Barca apart is their commitment to quality and authenticity. The flavors are rich and traditional, and it's clear that the chefs take pride in their craft. The margaritas and other specialty drinks are also worth mentioning—they're expertly crafted and perfectly complement the food. Overall, La Barca Mexican Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who loves Mexican cuisine. The combination of delicious food, excellent service, and a welcoming ambiance makes it a top choice for a memorable dining experience. I highly recommend it!

Google
One of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve been to in the US. Food tasted so fresh. Their sauces are so good. I had the Carne Asada which was splendid. Their beans are also fantastic. The atmosphere is very authentic and peaceful. The restaurant itself is pure art. The minute you walk in, you feel at home. Am so sad that I was only in LA on a trip. But I highly recommend this restaurant. Kudos to the chef and the team for such a great establishment.

Yelp
An LA Staple" I grew up watching my elders frequent this place. As soon as I became of age to drink I ordered my own margarita. And that was in 2003 and that's how long I have been coming to LaBarca. The servers are always lit and have the best answers for any item you might have in mind. I order the same items and switch back and forth from. They are the crunchy hard shell taco or the camarones Al mojo de ajo. If I'm sharing its the coloso burrito which is very tasty. They have expanded the parking in the back and it fits way more cars than it did in the past. More convenient that way. Thank you guys for always being so graceful. Miss you always and Thank you for all the great memories. Xo-Salud.

Yelp
This is only for delivery.. Since the place is a bit away from us with limited parking, we decided to get delivery first.. Wife and I enjoy crazy "gigante" burritos just to see what places do, so we ordered a Carne Asada (her) and a Chili Verde (me) "El Coliso" burrito. We also tried a quesadilla and some extra chips.. I AM going to use "OMG", because, OMG their El Coliso burritos ARE freakin' HUGE.. I've never seen one this big (get yer minds out of the gutter, right now, kids! ;-D )! Even more OMG is that the flavor was awesome, the chilie verde was not overly spicy but still spicy and the carne asada had a nice grilled flavor to it. Sure, it took us three days (when it showed up and two leftover servings) to finish them, but hey.. ;-) The quesadilla was a nice change of pace, too. Not because it was huge (but there was a lot of it) but the peppers added inside made a nice contrast to the usual cheesey tortilla snack. The chips are good, the kind you totally would mack on while waiting for your food, as was the salsa. Someday we will get there and find parking, but meanwhile we'll have to try some of the other dishes. Lots of food, surprisingly not that expensive, given the amount of food, and great taste.. Give the place a try! (sorry no photos.. next time!.. )

Yelp
Food service and ambience are all good. We had enchiladas and they were great but they cost more than the price listed on Yelp. The outside of the restaurant is rough but the inside is cozy. Best Mexican Food AND Town.

Yelp
PROS: - Good GOD their chips and salsa is amazing! - The employees are awesome and friendly. - The food here is darn good as well. Try their garlic shrimp dish! It's amazing. - The tortillas are good as well. - Refillable soft drinks! CONS: - Parking can be a b**ch. - Not in the nicest neighborhood. - Why is it so dark inside though? lol

Yelp
Blink and you miss this location BUT IYKYK!!! Looks the same since I've been going for like 20 years and could probably use a little updated decor lol but if it's not broke I guess we're not fixing it. I ordered the chile Colorado and it was sooooo delicious!!! I also ordered some guacamole and it was soooooo good as well. Customer service is usually good here, so no complaints! Prices are fair, food comes out quick. They did ignore some customizations to my friends order but it wasn't anything we could manage.

Karla M.

Yelp
Food was delicious , I tried the steak picado and was not disappointed. Ambiance was also beautiful and service was excellent . The waiters were super friendly and made sure we were taken care of . Will be back

Mustang M.

Yelp
OMG!!! Found this gem last minute for Cinco De Mayo. Food was seasoned to perfection and the staff/waiter were so welcoming and nice!! And the drinks are reasonable and good!! The ambiance is a cute homie vibe with TV's.

Wally P.

Yelp
Sketch o Rama. You feel safer when you walk in and there's more people. Servers are very attentive. Burritos are humongous, so it's better to share. But honestly nothing special. There was an AC vent above my head that kept dripping water on me and my food. Isn't that some sort of food code violation? This place needs a good scrub down. No idea why it gets four stars.

Ashwini A.

Yelp
SERVICE - located very close to USC campus - mostly geared towards college students - lots of indoor seating on large tables - street parking only - servers are nice and try to crack jokes - free unlimited chips and salsa - food served as it is made but not super quickly MENU - Mexican food - no vegan options, some vegetarian options - average price ($17 per large entree) FOOD - veggie fajitas plate (4/10): this was not listed on the menu so when I asked the server what they could make vegan he said he can do grilled vegetables, rice, beans, tortillas, salsa, and guacamole. It was not a terrible option but there was not anything that stood out as spectacular. The portion is quite large so I had enough to take home leftovers. WOULD I COME BACK? probably not I was extremely underwhelmed.

Kay Y.

Yelp
Nice ambiance and vibes. I liked their spicy shrimp a lot the sauce was good and flavorful. Staff was very prompt and nice as well. Haven't tried their other dishes but I liked their shrimp dish(:

Fabian L.

Yelp
I've been here multiple times and I'd say this is probably my most favorite restaurant! The queso fundido, enchiladas and drinks are to die for! I usually just order those items because they are so good, I don't even want to try anything else lol. My friends have ordered other items off the menu and they say it's good as well :) amazing customer service as well!

Jeanna A.

Yelp
A hidden gem behind the facade of a hole in the wall. Don't be deterred by the bars on the windows or the outside appearance, because inside you'll find a warm, inviting, family atmosphere serving delicious food and excellent service. La Barca offers traditional Mexican food dishes and yummy margaritas. I really enjoyed my chili verde plate, and others in my group raves about the shrimp fajitas, tacos, a burrito, and enchiladas. We ordered a mixture of margarita and I asked for mine with tajin instead of salt and some kale pond and they were happy to accommodate. Side note, if you haven't been adding jalapeños to your margarita then you're missing out! The service was fantastic. Attentive but not overbearing.

LaShawn W.

Yelp
Food is always good and the drinks are amazing I love the menudo it's grrrreat and I highly recommend it.

Yelp
I visited this location after back-to-back horrible experiences at the location in Bell. This location is significantly nicer and has a nice bar (although the bar was not open). I would have given this restaurant 5 stars, but there were a couple of minor issues. The food was definitely 5-star quality! Ordered the goat birria and single Mexican molcajete. The portions were large, complimented with handmade tortillas and both were just delicious. Definitely better than other locations. The service was not the greatest, but no fault of the staff. They seem to be a little short on staff. The hostess was really good and helped us when our waitress never showed up, THREE TIMES. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed with a large party of 10 accross from our table. Overall, I will 100% recommend this restaurant and I will be back!

Erika P.

Yelp
Service is EXCELLENT, waitresses always cheerful, Food is always good the meat was perfect handmade tortillas tasty!!! One thing I was disappointed on the Cafe de Olla!! No sweet at all and the taste was watered down.Carne AsadaHomemade Tortilla Chips

Cristina V.

Yelp
Went here with my friend, it has very dark lighting. You almost need a flashlight to read the menu. You have to put money on the jukebox if you want to listen to music. My friend ordered a Margarita and she didn't like it. When we told the waiter he said there's no returns you order it you keep it. We can understand that but just how rude he said it was just so bad. I commented this to him and his response was well you know there's a lot of people that come in here and almost drink it and want to send it back. I said well as you can see she only took one sip and it's understandable but he was just rude. After a little while we had a different waiter and I explained what had happened and he apologized. He also said there is other ways to say things. Especially to your customers. Will never be returning again. They need new wait staff. All the men just seem complacent.

Debra G.

Yelp
I ordered 2 burritos. 1 chicken, the other Carne Asada. The Asada was tough as leather! I called & was instructed to bring it back. Now, I don't live around the corner, but I'll be dog-gone, if I'm going to buy food that's not consumable. I Drrrrrove back to the restaurant & the Mgr. Replaced my order with chopped/cubed beef & stated, the carne asada is sometimes tough.....WTH?? Where's my free drink, desert, something...hell, Gas ain't free. Nope, I won't b back in that rat hole again. Deuces.

Jessica s.

Yelp
Good is good beyond nachos are great service is amazing, Alex is just so helpful, full of life and great suggestions when it comes to drinks and food, ambiance is the perfect environment for a coastal outing with friends family or a date.

Magaly S.

Yelp
Good service! The carne asada plate a must. Cocktails are delicious. Coming here for years and never disappointed.

Victor L.

Yelp
Unlimited chips, food was good. Portion wasn't bad, really enjoyed it. Highly recommend to people

Joseline S.

Yelp
Decided to go to La Barca for happy hour. We had a few drinks and ate a meal. The service was great. The waiters at first were friendly and at tentative. I ordered a combo plate, mangoneada margarita, lime margarita and strawberry margarita. My favorite one was the strawberry one. I will definitely stop by again because it's a good place to catch up with friends. At the end of the night I felt rushed because they placed the bill on the table and when I placed my card they grabbed it abruptly.

Shauna J.

Yelp
Food is delicious, but the service is Terrible. I went to this restaurant yesterday (3/22/2024) afternoon around 3 o'clock hour to meet with my cousin for late lunch. When I arrived, the hostess did not assist me nor greet me, nor looked me in my eye when I asked for her help, I had to look for my cousin to be seated. The server was terrible. He never greeted us, didn't introduce himself to us, rushed us for our order, got irritated when we asked him about details of the meals while ordering, he was very short with us and combative as if he didn't want to serve us. Very unfriendly towards us and gave us no eye contact as if he was disgusted. We ordered water which he never brought out. My cousin wanted to send back an order she couldn't eat and wanted order something else instead, but he ignored her walked away and left the food. He never checked on us, wasn't attentive to us or our requests/orders, but was engaging and attentive to the "other" patrons around us Very odd behavior and sour attitude, so I signaled him over to our table to express a couple of concerns about our orders - instead of listening to my concerns to resolve it, he became irritated, short, cut me off, and combative and threatened to tell the manager and walked away. He later came back (without the manager) and dropped the bill in front of me and tried to storm off which I then told him to bring the manager over I wanted to speak with him. He brought the manager over, and I explained to the manager both mine and my cousin's concerns regarding our orders and most specifically the bad service and unprovoked treatment and attitude we received from our waiter. The manager did show empathy and acknowledged our concerns and resolved our issue and fixed our bill. Another server came to me and tossed the updated bill at me, no eye contact no words, and walked away As we gathered our things and began to leave, our waiter decided to be friendly to us and speak to us by wishing us a good day and come back again . Needless to say that we will Never return to this establishment, and highly recommend that others "that look like us folks" follow suit. Good food, but Terrible service. Upside of this terrible experience: After leaving confused & disappointed w/ La Barca, we went to the warehouse at the Marina and was welcomed and served with friendliness, attentiveness and professionalism. Shout out to our server/bartender Derek @ the warehouse in Marina del Rey!

Yelp
Oh man this spot. In the barrio of 24th street. Even though USC is 4 blocks away. I felt like I was gonna get shot at. The parking is in the back. I think a huge mistake this restaurant makes is making us go all the way around to enter at Vermont st. They should have an entrance through the parking. That way the customers feel safe. The greeting ladies had RBF. I felt like we interrupted a serious conversation. They greeted us like we were a bother. When we sat the waiter was courteous, polite and attentive. The food was good I got chicken A LA PLANCHA. the shit was good. My date got the chile relleno. She said the chile was old. I bit, it was. The ambience is romantic. The spot was very nice. Mario was friendly and attentive. The prices were fair. The drinks were good. They didn't have live music. I had to put money on a juke box to liven up the place. They should just have music through out the whole restaurant. At a decent volume so customers can have a conversation or listen to the music playing. The sitting arrangements were great. Maybe will be back.

Michelle R.

Yelp
Yelpers- sorry but this was a bust for me. We may have ordered the wrong thing, I think, as we left underwhelmed. We were heading to the Wiltern and this was just 20 minutes away from the venue. It's located near USC and had popular reviews. First impression, we got piping hot chips and a bowl of salsa to dig into. Drinks were served and since it was a very hot day, I chose the shrimp cocktail and a carnitas taco. My friend got some sort of shrimp plate. My cocktail came bland, so much that I had to really doctor it up with all of the limes, tapatío and ketchup. Most places I've had this decently prepared and the extra hot sauce or ketchup was to enhance it. IMHO It was "just ok". The carnitas taco was dry and I had to scoop excessive amount of salsa to help it. I noticed my friend didn't finish her plate and assumed she was full. Later she told me it was just ok. She's had much better. I'm not sure why people were raving about the food. Perhaps it's the burrito that's their claim to fame. Our meal and 2 soft drinks came to $50 something before tip. Sorry yelpers but it was a miss here.

Alex F.

Yelp
Too many red flags on this local restaurant. Food is subpar when it comes to Mexican dishes. Folks that come here and post pics thinking this is good food, are mostly deprived of authentic Mexican dishes. Chips are not usually fresh or need salt to get any flavor, an indication of the dishes coming out of the kitchen . The place is pretty cramped up unfortunately. It can use a a remodel to keep up with the times.

Madison H.

Yelp
Perfect for what we were looking for! Authentic Mexican sit down restaurant with authentic food and a decent price. Staff, atmosphere and food was perfect what we were looking for.

Mykalah L.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years but all of a sudden its a little wild how long the wait time is becoming for us has a black family . I was In. the other night and my table of 4 was passed over for a hispanic family of 6. when asked why the lady had absolutely NO answer. the manager came and he knows my family faces very well has I said we been coming for years . he apologized half way but we decided to leave as I am not okay with spending money where I am not wanted or welcomed

Kim M.

Yelp
I've been going here for over 25 years! Best Food ever!! The Chili Colorado Burrito is delicious! Yummy

Mesha M.

Yelp
I didn't like that platter but the food is good and the drinks are good. Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo

Rosy G.

Yelp
Came here to eat today with my mom and sister. We've been here before but it's been a while. It wasn't too crowded when we came in but people came in after. The food was not good. I asked for my food to not be spicy (don't come for me). I was really specific and when they brought my food, it was covered in Jalapeños. The waiter was like, You want me to take them off? I said no because the vinegar was still going to be everywhere. So he takes it and brings it back. Now covered with this red sauce. It was not spicy but it tasted straight from the can. Also, the beef in the taquitos and flautas Was very dry and did not taste seasoned. I tried to eat it but our t was awful. The food pictured is what I could not eat. The waiter said that because I had tried the food, I couldn't take it off my bill. So this $20.99 went to the trash. So did my sister's because she ordered the same thing and even though she didn't change anything about her plate, it was still gross. Nothing about this meal was good. Except the chips and salsa before the food. That was good. And the horchata. But they never asked me about a refill. Oh, and my mom did enjoy her fish soup. The only thing I gained from this experience was a stomach ache.

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
If you are looking for a nice and sit down Mexican restaurant that serves you fresh chips and flavorful salsa this is the place! I love enchiladas, and this place serves really great ones that are not lacking in cheese or sauce! The rice and beans complement each plate well as they have wonderful flavor as well! The service here is also really nice and attentive. It is a great neighborhood spot!

Elvira M.

Yelp
We have been coming to La Barca for years because the food is usually good. But, we are very unhappy today. We ordered albóndigas and caldo and both were very salty. The rice was salty. Someone must really like salt. Please cut down on the salt. I am not giving up on coming to this restaurant.

omar s.

Yelp
Badass food bomb ass birra If your hungover I recommend the birra Agua de piña is first AF I would've took a picture but I finished all my food Stuff is cool and friendly ain't would bring my mother and also my lover here it's that kind of a place

Zack H.

Yelp
La Barca left me with mixed feelings. On the positive side, they offer complimentary chips and salsa, a welcome gesture that adds a nice touch to the dining experience. Additionally, their Tuesday drink special provides an opportunity to indulge in refreshing beverages at a discounted price, which is a definite plus. However, when it comes to the actual food, La Barca falls short of expectations. The dishes I tried were rather mediocre, lacking the depth of flavor and culinary finesse I was hoping for. Moreover, the wait times at this establishment can be frustratingly long, which can test one's patience, especially when hunger is involved. Another aspect to consider is the pricing. La Barca leans toward the higher end in terms of cost, making it challenging to justify the expense for the quality of food received. While the complimentary chips and salsa and the drink special offer some value, the overall dining experience doesn't quite match up to the price point. In summary, La Barca has its strengths, such as the complimentary chips and salsa and the Tuesday drink special. However, the lackluster food, lengthy wait times, and higher prices dampen the overall dining experience. If you're seeking a memorable culinary adventure, you may want to explore other options in the area that offer more satisfying and flavorful dishes.

Edw1n A.

Yelp
It's coo. Enjoy it. Good prices, it's local, it's LA by SC. Happy hour is great. Easy.

George T.

Yelp
Best and most authentic Mexican restaurant in all of Los Angeles. They have some of the best guacamole and table salsa I have ever had. The servers had great customer service, especially Albert. Definitely recommend this place. The Carne Asada plate was fire

Frank H.

Yelp
I love coming here with my family. The food is always really good especially the Super Burrito. They also give you the option of either having Asada or beef. The best place to come to enjoy a family lunch and dinner.

Eric D.

Yelp
One of the best wet burritos in the city!!!! Great asada and the burrito was beyond huge. Def recommend go there asap

Vanessa V.

Yelp
It's been a while since I been here and just went all out. I order the Carde Asda plate and my friend order green Chile wet burrito w classic margarita and peach cocktail Everything was good and fast. Peach Cocktail was a little sweet.

Susan K.

Yelp
I really like this place! Next time I visit I will take a photograph. This is a great place to meet a friend when you're both coming from different parts of the city. The food is exactly what you have a taste for when you're looking for Mexican food and margaritas. It's clean and the food is fresh and the service staff is friendly. It's a very popular place for groups and families. It's not fancy upscale small-plate Mexican food, it is typical and authentic and delicious. Oops! I just ate there again yesterday and forgot to take a picture but I will now post this review anyway. You know what a tostada grande looks like! But this one had carnitas in it. Sorry I didn't photograph it

Bubba B.

Yelp
Coming from Texas, I have an acquired taste for Tex-Mex. And while it's impossible to find in LA (Homestate doesn't come close despite their claim), this spot is actually the best overall for coming close: portions are huge, service is blindingly fast, free unlimited chips and salsa arrive immediately upon being seated, and free parking in their lot behind the back, what's not to love? You can't go wrong here--don't let a line outside the door deter you--it's a cozy interior but worth a short wait.

L. V.

Yelp
Quick run down... Came here on cinco de Mayo (May 5th) Waited 30 minutes for a table for two. Seemed like they were short staff because I noticed things weren't running as smoothly as they should be. Drinks were weak- disappointed Food was Good... guac was bland (what happened to the cilantro) Place has a very mixed crown, even the music is mixed lol (one minute Britney the next old school Spanish) super casual dress code also btw... Enjoy!!

Laura F.

Yelp
It's says best Mexican food in town that's a disrespectful statement to real Mexicans . Food is disgusting rice was old from days . The server was so rude the lil chola girl upfront was super rude . The camarones cóctel was white caldo ewwwwww. Hay les va en español esta comida esta pero asquerosa esta comida dicen ser la mejor comida mexicana en la vecindad . Por favor no vayan aquí . El dueño viejo es un estupido y la hija es una perra fea

Karen Z.

Yelp
I love me some Mexican food but this place wasn't it for me , I ordered the carne asada plate and it was missing flavor . Service was great But it's overpriced for the food taste

Jermaine M.

Yelp
A live place with good food and a good vibe. And they're open seven days a week. I haven't had everything on the menu but the dishes I had was to die for!!!

Brittaney B.

Yelp
I had the colossal burrito (asada). It was huge. It fed my fiancé and I....comfortably. Fuck...It was delicious....

Rayanna Patricia B.

Yelp
Alright, this place is definitely worth visiting! My friend always RAVED about this place so we all decided to try it out with him to eat here. We were not disappointed at all. The portions, HUGE. Taste??? THE TASTE WAS PERFECT!!! Customer service? Better than a Chick-fil-a employee saying MY PLEASURE!!! Our server who looked like Jack Harlow was so attentive like dang, our table never run out of hot tortilla chips. Will go back here when I get the chance that's FOR SURE.

Anita H.

Yelp
Food was good! I got the chilaquiles, they were good but I think I'll try something different next time. My kids got chicken tenders which were good and they have good ranch, cheese burger and a asada burrito which they all enjoyed! Will go back

Sim B.

Yelp
I recently dined at La Barca Restaurant, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The ambiance transported me to a vibrant Mexican street market with colorful decor and lively music. The attentive service was a highlight; the staff was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the cuisine. As for the food, every dish was a culinary masterpiece bursting with authentic flavors. Don't miss the enchiladas and the mouthwatering guacamole. A true gem for Mexican cuisine enthusiasts!
