The 21 Best Restaurants In Marseille 2024

"La Cantinetta serves homey, comforting Italian food in its secluded back patio, with a terracotta floor and Seussian tree. The vibe shifts when the tables move inside for winter, with its pine-colored walls with sconces and shiplap, vintage wooden bistro chairs, and well-stocked bar giving it a clubhouse feel. This place is always packed: a younger crowd swarms the patio in summer, including vacationers who hit the south for some sun and sea, while winter sees more locals, especially families. Big bowls of rigatoni arrabbiata and linguine alle vongole aren’t complicated nor reinventing the wheel, but are done well. Save enough room for a slice of the simple, perfect dark chocolate cake." - sophie friedman

La Cantinetta

"Since childhood, Pierre-Antoine Denis has been passionate about Italian food and regularly pops over the border to scour the country for premium produce. Chalked up on a slate, the menu spans antipasti, fresh house-made pasta and the chef’s signature dish: scaloppine di vitello. Tightly-packed tables, a buzzy vibe and a patio to the rear set the scene." - Michelin Inspector

The food makes the experience worth it. They are definitely understaffed. We went on a Monday night and our waiter forgot to put in our order so we waited a long time to get our food. While we waited, I noticed the same servers were making desserts, buying tables, and trying to keep sane. Not realistic at all. Food was truly wonderful though so if you're not in a rush and in the area I would stop by.

This place is a gem. Delicious Italian food, and fantastic atmosphere. The staff were really helpful and friendly and helped us move seats (don't reserve out the front as the back garden has all the atmosphere). Wine and food was great. Can spend hours here chatting. 💛

Google
It was generallh a good experience and 2 of 3 dishes that we ordered were excellent (pasta with veal) but the fish of the day had very strange taste and smell and we did not like it at all. We were sitting at the terrace and chairs there are terribly unconfortable. Tables are also very small with knifes and forkes frequently sliding off to the floor. Wine and beer (Italian bottled one) cost 4 EUR each. Excellent discounted fish was recommended for the child. Tiramisu for desert was quite good. At the end during the check out, the bartender asked if we want to add tips which was a bit uncommon. Prorbably will come back one more time to give another chance to the restaurant

Google
Fabulous dinner! Margot was of great help explaining the menu to non French speakers. Great mixologists and menus of the day. Would strongly recommend.

Google
Service was very informal but homey and I liked it. They explain the menu for the day and gives recommendations on what to try. They answer your questions well and they serve very good amaretto sour!

Google
Fab place Our waiter was friendly and helpful Food was delicious My only criticism, we ordered x2 plates of pasta with cream and Parmesan for our children (aged 10 & 11) and they were absolutely huge. One plate would have been more than enough, so a bit of advice when ordering would have been helpful as it was such a waste.

Yelp
Had a wonderful swordfish carpaccio. This was followed by a homemade pappardelle with a spicy tomato and cheese. Comfort food supreme! Finished with a selection of 2 ripe Gorgonzola cheeses and some amargnac. A superb meal!

Yelp
Wow this has to be my new favorite Italian restaurant. My girlfriend and I were in Marseille for 2 nights on the way to Monaco and after asking the man working the hotel desk about his favorite restaurant we are directed to La Cantinetta. As we pull up in the Taxi I see an order of the buratta arrive at an outdoor table. It looked tremendous! All of the food was incredible but the buratta was like nothing I have tasted before. Instead of sliced tomatoes the mozzarella/ricotta cheese was placed atop a puree of tomatoes, garlic, basil, olive oil and some other additional ingredients. This dish was so amazing I ate a second one in lieu of dessert! Also if you can check out the amazing backyard patio.

Yelp
Great Italian food away from the tourist area. We had no reservation but arrived early and the owner/manager was kind and jovial. Our server was very patient and did an outstanding job. Solid, value-driven wine list. Now, the food: it was excellent. Many homemade pasta dishes, meat and fish of the day. Homemade sausages, prosciutto cut right there, and locally sourced products like truffles and meats/fish. I started with a basic rocket and parmesan salad. Co-pilot had an amazing cream of mushroom soup w/bacon and poached egg. I should have ordered it for myself! My main was the meat of the day: three different meats in a pot au feu type dish. Excellent, simple flavors. Co-pilot had the homemade spinach gnocchi in a white cream sauce. It was wonderful. Dessert was a creme brûlée. Make sure you make a reservation. It is a lovely dining experience.

Yelp
Great home-made pasta, lovely bresaola with parmigiano, daily selection of fish and meats. Tiramisu, limoncello sorbet and cafe noisette were also nice. The place is slightly off of Cours Julien on a street sloping downwards, so has a more relaxed, chilled and homey feel. Waiter was extremely nice and took time to personally present the entire (!) menu and daily specials. If you crave Italian while in Marseille, look no further than La Cantinetta.

Yelp
had a great evening in the cozy interior in February. So we could not enjoy the outside terrace as it was too chilly, but it looked super! So will return again in Spring perhaps.....

Yelp
My husband and I went with my sister and her husband who live in Marseille. The food was amazing. My sister got the burrata that I "borrowed" a few bites from :) It was that good. We had the rocket and parmesan salad. My husband had the ravioli and I had a house special for the night: thinly sliced veg and thin flat pasta noodles in a wonderful creamy tomato sauce. While the mistral made eating al fresco a challenge, the restaurant provided a nice stack of fresh from the dryer fleece blankets that kept us snug through to dessert; a pain perdu made from panettone and almond ice cream. Yup!

Yelp
Quite good italian restaurant in the trendy marseille area. Book in advance especially if you wanna be in the patio, but at the first service round.. this place is too popular, overcrowded, people do not really care if you are here or not, or leave. May be the best thing is to stay outside in the patio on the road side.
