If you need a babysitter in California, hire a CA-sita. But if you're out here in DC, skip the sitter and take your kids to this incredible and adorable Salvadoran restaurant in Silver Spring - one of the 10 best places to eat in the DMV.
What to get: Banana Shake, Pupusas, Tamales
What not to get: Surprised by how long you have to wait
What else: And everybody's getting fat on their food except Mama Casita
It has plenty of space, nice decor, lots of food options and great drinks. A truly great place for a meal for trendy folks and families alike (no, you can't be both) (jk). The service is extremely friendly as well. Salvadoran Pupusas are the staple of the local cuisine and are wonderful fried discs of deliciousness. Salvadoran Tamales are much better - more moist and flavourful - than the Mexican kind, largely because they're wrapped in wet banana leaves instead of dry corn husks that soak up all the moisture.
So Casita. One of the very best places to eat in the DC area, with good pupusas and magnificent drinks, particularly the banana shake (swoon). The service is extremely slow, but the people are lovely, the prices are rock-bottom dirt-cheap, and the products are heavenly. There are plenty of Salvadoran places in these parts but this is rightly considered as one of the very best, and it's certainly one of the best Banana drinks I've ever had.
If you come over to my place later, I can offer you a different kind of banana drink.
And if you want to visit a certain area of DC, I suggest visiting the Pupus-area.
