A Mexican-style marisquería downtown serving aguachiles, ceviches, and grilled octopus, with late-night hours on weekends. Featured by Axios; an excellent seafood counterpoint to SLC’s meatier stalwarts.

I just happened to be walking by and am from out of town. I was drawn in, and so very happy to have followed the hunch. Service was excellent. The chips and salsa satisfied me while I enjoyed my Tamarindo Margarita which was a treat. I had a ceviche of “tres amigos” - octopus, shrimp, and fish. So fabulous!! I recommend this restaurant heartily.

Google
We absolutely loved La Cevicheria! After being turned away but another “fancy” Mexican restaurant nearby, we come here and it turned out a way better experience! The decor is cute and fun, and the food was fantastic. The tropical tuna ceviche exceeded our expectations! It was also big enough to share. The chips and salsa they serve while you wait for the food was also above par. We will definitely come back!

We tried everything it was really good! If you're Mexican and ask for different style of shrimp they will make it! Thank

I recently visited La Cevicheria in Salt Lake City, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish! If you're a fan of fresh, delicious ceviche, this is the place to go. The flavors were perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of tanginess and spice. Every bite tasted incredibly fresh, and the portion sizes were generous. The service was also top-notch. Our waiter, Jordan, was awesome—friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. He made sure we were well taken care of and even gave us great recommendations on the menu. His enthusiasm added to the overall vibe of the place. I highly recommend La Cevicheria for anyone in the mood for authentic, fresh seafood with excellent service. Definitely coming back!

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+ If I could give six stars, I would! La Cevicheria in downtown Salt Lake City is hands down the best spot for Mexican-style ceviche. The variety of options is incredible, and every bite is fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The ambiance transports you straight to coastal Mexico with its vibrant decor and welcoming atmosphere. The staff is friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. If you’re a ceviche lover (or even if you’re not yet), this place is a must-visit. Absolutely top-notch—don’t miss it!

Food was delicious! I’ll be craving the Baja fish tacos and shrimp nachos. Music is a bit loud but great food and service.

Google
This place is so good! My friend ordered “pulpo zarandeado” (grilled octopus with their house sauce) with the agua de Jamaica (hibiscus drink). I ordered the green agua chiles with a tamarindo margarita and it was all so yummy! 😋 I’m not an octopus person, but my friend’s dish was so delicious! Super tender and juicy. My dish was also so good and spicy; the margarita was the best I have had. The salsa and chips are also really delicious- very homemade-tasting. Our server was really nice and hospitable, making sure we had everything we needed. I definitely recommend checking out this place!

Google
The food was ok. The waiter was great and the guacamole was excellent. I had the recommended ceviche la cevicheria, others had the tropical shrimp ceviche, meat enchiladas, and quesabirrias. The ceviche la cevicheris was ok, the flavor was a bit fishy and the texture of the seafood was a bit mushy and didn’t feel or taste very fresh. The tropical shrimp ceviche had a great flavor and was probably the best tasting out of the 4 dishes. The quesabirrias were good, not a ton of flavor but ok. The meat enchiladas were not desirable, the meat was chewy and tasted old. There was no filling in the enchilada, it was dry with very little flavor. The ambiance is fresh and fun, it was 6 pm on a Friday and only Two other tables were filled. I really wanted to love this place, as costal food is my favorite. They have some work to do with the smell of the place though. It smelled like sour cleaning rags which immediately put a bad taste in my mouth. The price for four people with two sodas and waters was $114 before tip.

Yelp
We went here on a recommendation from a local bartender and we love to support local businesses. It's a cute space. The host/waiter/busser/bartender were all the same person when we went. He was the owner! He said he and his wife pretty much do it all themselves. I had the Paloma and it was very tasty and refreshing. Our group ordered the shrimp ceviche, grilled octopus, Baja style shrimp tacos & birria tacos. Everything tasted delicious! The ceviche was refreshing. I personally had the octopus, and it was exceptional. Will definitely return when we come back to salt lake!

Yelp
The good: - The fish ceviche was top notch. Fresh Mahi Mahi accented with crisp veggies and citrus. The tostadas served with it were good as well. - The fish tacos were great. Large pieces of deep fried white fish with a great sauce in corn tortillas. - The salsa served with chips as an appetizer was amazing. It was also served with the street tacos. The "meh": - The street tacos were bland and dry. I tried the pastor and chicken. Without the salsa and lime these wouldn't be good at all. - There is a smell in the restaurant that's very unappetizing. It's mentioned in other reviews as well. It smells like "dirty mop" or slow running sewer pipes. It was very off putting. Tuesdays are 2 for 1 street taco day, so very affordable at $2 a piece. Ceviche was priced well for the quality.

Yelp
We were in the area and decided to check out this place for dinner. We tried the baja fish tacos, beef burrito, and goodbye hangover (aguachile). Everything was so yummy! The rice and beans are pretty standard. Beef in the burrito had a good char. Breading on the fish tacos was crunchy, could've used a touch of salt. And I think the same for the aguachile. Horchata was okay, pretty watered down. Nice staff! On the pricier side so it'll be once in a while for us, but we think it's worth it. Will try a ceviche or other aguachile dishes next time!

Yelp
This was a Father's Day surprise! The ceviche was delicious and did not disappoint. The chips and salsa were good, and even the birria tacos were tasty. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Incredible fresh seafood and a friendly server meant my friend and I let our hair down. I had some kind of fruity cocktail with a tajin rim. I'm disappointed with myself that I don't remember the name. Ask the server what's popular. We went with the octopus and thanked our server profusely for the suggestion. It was perfectly cooked and we ate it with the included tortilla. My only wish? More chips!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute interior, beachy decor. We were greeted promptly and server was very friendly. Service was great. My husband got the tuna avocado ceviche. It wasn't a true ceviche as the tuna wasn't cooked in any citrus or anything, it was raw sashimi style pieces of tuna sitting on top of avocado, soy sauce and spicy mayo, cucumber/jalapeno slices were on the rim of the plate. It was very salty, tuna had little flavor. I got the caldo de mariscos, a seafood soup. The broth was VERY light tasting, not a deep flavor. The seafood was fresh tasting but the crab was excessively salty. The flavor of the broth became nicer w the toppings served along w it. But the crab was so disappointing as it was obviously frozen, so it was mushy and salty. Couldn't hardly get it out of the shell. Unfortunately, the food was barely mid and we didn't finish our plates.

Yelp
There should be 100% 10 star rating. Awesome delicious food great customer service perfect atmosphere. I cannot be more impressed by one single place. Great job. Keep it up.

Yelp
A few friends and I went to La Cevicheria after a Yelp event for some late night food and company. The crowd was winding down as it was close to closing time. All the food was delicious! I was surprised at how tender the octopus was! The service was great and the decor was bright and fun. Located in downtown, parking might be tricky on certain days and times, but worth the visit!

Yelp
What a great spot! We had a great lunch and everything was delicious. Jordan was great - host, server, bartender. We loved the tropical tuna ceviche, birria tacos, and the fried shrimp tacos!

Yelp
Delicious food with a special almost every day. They don't hold back on flavor--my quesabirria was packed with it. I overestimated myself and went a bit too crazy with the salsa, so I had to take it to go, but it was absolutely delicious. The staff was worried I didn't enjoy it since I only made it halfway through before boxing it, but that couldn't be further from the truth--it was amazing. Their micheladas are a must-try, pairing perfectly with the food. The vibe is super fun with neon signs, vibrant colors, and a cool ocean bar theme that makes it a great spot to hang out.

Yelp
We absolutely love this place. First off, it's one of the crispest Diet Coke brews I've ever had. Like so so so good. The chips and salsa are very yummy. The fish ceviche is actually incredible, and we have gone back for it. The shrimp flautas were good too. The churros came out in the fun little cart with ice cream and fruit. I love the vibe of everything from the decor to the presentation of the food.
google avatar

Isaac R.

Yelp
This Mexican sea food is delicious; their ceviche tastes so fresh. I wouldn't have thought it was going to be this delicious. Their churros taste so fresh too, not like the frozen ones. Great customer service, and the place looks clean and is nice inside.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this little gem while trying to find somewhere to eat lunch downtown. This is amazing food! The ceviche was amazing and the atmosphere was charming. Every detail perfect and well thought out! Someone had a vision and it works! I order the Casero Ceviche and my husband ordered the Queso Birria tacos! I tasted both and each had a unique savory flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
Phenomenal!! The food, the service, the cute atmosphere is everything. Michelada 10/10. The octopus and fried fish 10/10. The ceviche 10/10. I'm coming back to try their other ceviches. They have so many options but I got the tropical shrimp ceviche. To add on, the brick building had octopus tentacle artwork which made the vibes way cool! The only thing I would say is the restaurant isn't super big so I can see it being busy on the evenings and weekends.

Yelp
My husband and I were visiting SLC and were craving Mexican seafood (Mariscos). This had good reviews so we decided to give it a try, plus it was right next our hotel, the Marriott City Center. Walked in and were immediately greeted by Neil. Great attitude and personality. He took our order right away and brought us delicious homemade chips with an array of salsas. We ordered the aguachiles (two flavors), shrimp and cheese empanada, oysters, baja shrimp taco, baja fish taco and a taco de pulpo! The food had SO MUCH flavor! So glad we chose this spot. Also had a mango and tamarindo margaritas and my husband got La Cevicheria and Shades beer on draft. The margaritas were fresh and did not taste too artificial. Everything was great! Also everything was very clean and had a good vibe. Will definitely come back if we are ever in SLC again.

Yelp
The service here was so friendly and warm. The interior was also equally as bright and colorful. Our table of four had guacamole and chips, quesa birria tacos, pulpo (octopus), chicken nachos, and various alcoholic drinks. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks and drinks he portions were appropriate. They also paid a lot of attention to presentation. The strawberry margarita was the best margarita I've ever had, and the presentation was top-notch as well. It wasn't too sweet, and it was pleasantly tart and tasted like real strawberry. I'll be wanting to come back again and again for their margaritas. The pulpo (grilled octopus) entree I had was also delicious. It was very flavorful. The one critique I would give is that it was a little bit over cooked. Other than that, I enjoyed it. I also took multiple bites of the chicken nachos and the dish was very generous. It was a large mountain of food on a plate and had a bit of spice (but not too much spice). We would absolutely want to come back here for more delicious drinks and food!

Yelp
Really nice ambiance, great spot to get your Instagram photos in. I got the shrimp and steak taco. Very tasty. I was only going to do one but they are about medium sized tacos so definitely get two. The shrimp was amazing. Very high quality seafood. The beef I was a little. It I different but it was good. My wife got the chicken enchilada. It was very clean tasted high quality. My wife doesn't like refried beans and ask to replace it with rice. They did so at no extra charge. There chips and salads are unique. They have salt and some sort of hot sauce or salt on them. Makes a great starter. Overall the place was good. I believe if you come here choose the seafood route. Next time I would get the ceviche as I believe that is there number one dish. Little bit pricier but overall a great experience.
google avatar

Karen G.

Yelp
We decided seafood and this place did not disappoint! We're pretty picky about ceviche considering we make it all the time, however this was soooooo yummy. Our serve Jordan (I believe) was the absolute best! Will definitely be coming back it's definitely a little hidden gem in the heart of slc!

Yelp
Food was good, service was slow, price was high. Not disappointed but probably wouldn't go back.

Yelp
I felt like I was on a beach vacation while dining here. The spicy ceviche option is perfection and Sonia the tropical selection. The mango margarita hit the spot, so much so that I ordered another one after finishing the first one. Besides how delicious the food was, even better was the service. I mean... ten stars there. I'm really looking forward to coming here again and checking out the bar area in the back. It's a really cute spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Got 1/2 shrimp 1/2 fish ceviche. So fresh. So good. Place is so cute on the inside. The service was excellent:)

Yelp
Sunday dinner can be tough with most restaurants closed but if you're looking for great food, good service, and a late dinner you have to come to La Cevicheria. When we walked in we were quickly greeted and sat at a comfortable table. The restaurant is nautical themed and fish is their signature. La Cevicheria is centered around their Ceviche (a dish of raw fish in an acidic marinaded in lime and other juices) but don't be hesitant to give their full menu a go. We started with the guacamole. It was a decent helping, tasted freshly made and the tortilla chips were a perfect thickness to handle the chunk. Only downside is I wished it had a little more heat but that's a personal flavor choice. Drink menu has beer and few cocktails you'd typical find in a Latin restaurant. I went with the Cantarito and wasn't disappointed. Good amount of tequila, with fresh lime, grapefruit, and hit with a splash of soda water. The Tajin rim on a crystal skull mug was a nice touch. My date went with the margarita. I had a little taste and I can say definitely a good mix of tequila to fresh lime juice. I wasn't too hungry so I went with two tacos, a fish and an octopus (I know crazy I didn't try the ceviche but maybe next time). The fish taco had a great flavor with a creamy sauce and a good helping of slaw. The octopus taco on the other hand stole the show. The meat was grilled to perfection with just a touch of oil. It was topped with an avocado chipotle sauce that had light heat and smokiness. I definitely recommend and now I want to go back for just the octupus platter. If you've ever tried grilling octopus you know what I mean when I say it's hard to get it right and they definitely did it right tonight. Tips: - Ceviche is typically raw fish in an acidic marinade so be careful when reading the menu if you're sensitive to that type of food. -Parking is limited to street so you may have to spin the block if you're going on a busy night or just find the nearest garage. -Smaller restaurant so call if brining a larger group. -Be adventurous

Yelp
This place is so authentic and the food was amazing ! The wait staff was fast and attentive. The restaurant is very clean and has a fun ambiance

Yelp
My friends and I were really excited to try this place because we all love ceviche and I loved the drink menu too! Unfortunately upon entering we were hit with this foul sewage smell that my friend asked if we could sit outside but they don't have outdoor seating. We lingered a bit as the smell of food was quickly added into this now faint smell so we got seated. Don't get me wrong this smell is there the whole time that's why I'm knocking down stars because they really need to do something about it especially selling fresh fish. Anyway our server was nice and brought us chips and this really hot salsa. I asked for something lighter but all they had was ranch. Lol. The house margarita was really good but not strong enough. The real show was la cevicheria ceviche with salmon and tuna. Came in a huge lava dish big enough for four people. The taste was perfect. Perfect amount of lime juice and salt. We believe they add a little soy sauce too. But incredible and fresh. Worth the $23 bucks. My friend got the quesibirria and she loved them. My other friend said her pork street taco was just ok. Menu looks good but I won't be back until they clear the air.

Yelp
This is a chill spot downtown to meet up with friends and have some delicious ceviche/seafood. But don't order the flautas.... I repeat don't order the flautas!
google avatar

Autumn M.

Yelp
Fantastic quality of food! This food you can tell is genuinely made with love, perfect flavor with just enough zest! Waitstaff and employees were very fast, attentive and knowledgeable! It's all seafood cooked to perfection with all the right ingredients!

Yelp
I loves me some ceviche and, since the demise of the standout Peruvian restaurant, Del Mar al Lago, I've searched long and hard to find a worthy successor. After a visit to the promisingly named La Cevicheria, my search, unfortunately, will continue. My ceviche was salty as hell, almost to the point of inedibility. I did enjoy the pineapple aqua fresca---very refreshing and not too sweet. The layout of La Cevicheria is almost beer hall like, with long tables and corrugated metal accents. It's bright and cheery, giving a sense of a tropical vibe. The menu boasts a dozen or so ceviche styles on offer, along with drinks and a small selection of other entrées. Prices run in the $15-20 range. The service was warm, if not particularly efficient. The restaurant was filled with patrons, so the long wait (more than 30 minutes for a small to-go order) may be atypical. There is metered street parking along 200 S and a small lot behind the restaurant, but it may be difficult to find parking during peak hours.

Yelp
I was very pleasantly surprised by the great food, I had some tacos and I would eat that Marlin taco all day long it was delicious! My wife ordered the octopus off the chef specialties it was not only gorgeous it tasted exactly like it looked, sooo delicious! We will be back!

Yelp
My friends and I decided to give this new a try... Here is how they did. Service: 5 They were efficient and very informative with their menu. Our waiter was awesome. Environment: 5 It is clean and organized. Decor is just enough and definitely it is more on the "hip" younger crowd side :) Food: 5 Wow. It was so good. I had the salmon, and it was just perfect. You know what I loved? Their homemade chips!!! Overall: 5 It was a great experience and I definitely would go back and take other people with me. It is a must try spot.

Yelp
I'm Mexican, born and raised in CDMX, and my favorite food is ceviche... which is to say, I had high expectations! I was very pleasantly surprised by the food, first and foremost. It was exactly what I was craving on a hot summer day, very fresh and tasty. The ambiance of the restaurant, decorations and music, were quite cute and made the experience fun. Our waitress was also quite sweet, and prices are quite reasonable for the portions. This was a great little lunch place!

Yelp
So my daughter took me here for a birthday brunch. Our first time and probably not last! We got greeted right away from a very friendly worker, so it made the vibes that much better! I love me some good seafood and here you get Mexican and seafood. I ordered the fish tacos (6.5 out of 10). Super thick pieces of fish and seems really fresh. The chipotle ranch dressing made it 7.5 out of 10! Make sure to ask for a side of it so you can dip the tacos in it! I also ordered Taco de pulpo (octopus taco) 9 out of 10! I definitely will be ordering this again. Octopus was tender and delicious also you get a good cheese pull on this one The guacamole we got was just okay. Didn't really have salt so we added ourselves 5 out of 10 My daughter ordered Birria tacos 8 out of 10. The consume was delicious and wasn't runny like most consumes. So it actually stuck on the tacos as you dipped. It was crunchy and not soggy at all. Very flavorful! She also got shrimp and cheese empanada 8 out of 10!
google avatar

Jenie T.

Yelp
WOW amazing and incredible !!! We also of course ordered ceviche LA CEVICHERIA and one more, but we ate it all before I could even take pictures. 10/10! Will be back to try tropical ceviche, looked amazing.
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
Cool little establishment located in a really fun area. There's a lot to do and see on this street and it's all super walkable. The Cevicheria has some super fresh made to order ceviche, but if that isn't your thing they have tons of other options. The coconut shrimp is amazing, I love the salad and rice that is served along side it. The fish tacos are also really fresh and flavorful. They have an impressive selection of margaritas, mojitos, and other drinks available too.
google avatar

Tyler S.

Yelp
We had a gracious host the other night who recommended the Baja Tacos, and the Tropical Ceviche. Three tacos with beautifully lightly breaded fried pieces of fish with a nice slaw and tasty sauce served with a green salsa for additional flavor. The Tropical Ceviche was a unique take that I was a little hesitant to try, but quickly became a fan. It's a balanced ceviche with a sweet side. Already planning to go back, where else can you get the selection of ceviche in SLC with a little Aqua chili's as well.

Evaristo R.

Yelp
Saturday night out with the wife we couldn't decide where to eat. We came across this restaurant amazing food the ceviche was fresh an and delicious, the shrimp empanadas and the Baja shrimp tacos hit a home run. I would highly recommend and come back again.

Yelp
No complaints! Good flavor, friendly and helpful staff, well decorated, fun atmosphere. We had Baja fish and shrimp tacos, and Al pastor tacos. All great! We'd come back. Love, Vegan Cranberra.

Yelp
I got the whole fried fish and ate almost the entire thing. I didn't even know I was that hungry. I ordered it because it looked so good & just figured I'd have left-overs. But I just kept eating it! At one point my waiter hi fived me. Then the manager told me that this fish died three times - once in the ocean, once when they cooked it and then the final time when they put it in front of me. Needless to say; I'll be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here in the afternoon. Ordered a bunch of foods to try. Love it. Flavor was great. Drinks was ok. Service was slow but only him there so we understand. Will come back again.

Yelp
Definitely will come back! They were doing 8 dollar margs promo! Who wouldn't love that?!!! The food was delicious and tasty! The shrimp ceviche was fresh and savory! The shrimp meat was heavenly along with the lime juice. The service was friendly and respectful. The girl was nice and welcoming. You can tell she was happy to work here and she as even humming along to the music playing in the restaurant. I got the tamarind margarita, paired so well with the shrimp ceviche. Honestly I was kind of having the worst day of my life today. This meal saved my life and brought me back me back to life. No kidding. Crossing my fingers they would keep the margarita promo going! LOL. Definitely will bring my friends along, and should pass this message along so everyone can come for their eight dollar margs.

Yelp
Brand new - Seafood, Mexican cuisine and tequilas- very friendly service - the ceviche is fantastic - everything was fantastic and super fresh - I'll be back asap!
google avatar

Reggie H.

Yelp
Tropical Shrimp was super fresh and the mango margarita was super tasty .Yown provided superb service and had my food to me very fast. There were many options on the menu that were all equally tempting so I relied on the server's recommendation, which turned out to be a good decision. You will definitely need more chips than the the few tostadas presented, to eat the portion of ceviche they serve. The design of the place was bright, clean and somewhat throwback with some futuristic flair. Their name tags will definitely catch your eyes.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! I was feeling a bit under the weather and stumbled on this place. I had the sopa with all of the seafoods and my husband had the plain shrimp ceviche. The ceviche was a little bit sour but delicious. The winner of the night was for sure the soup which had delicious seafood that felt fresh. I dont think I have had a more sumptious soup in a long time. It brought me out of my feeling a little sick mood and made me want to make the most of the rest of the night. Service was a little slow but it worked. The waiter was sincere and did his job well. Bottom line: I think we just found our go to Mexican seafood shop! We hope you can stay open for many years to come!!

Ben M.

Yelp
First impression walking into the building artistic, bright, and clean. We were greeted immediately and received exceptional service throughout our visit. Our party of two had the shrimp dip, queso birria tacos, and the Baja fish tacos. Everything was unique, fresh, flavorful, and presented very well. La Cevicheria was an expected find, and a true GEM in downtown SLC. I will be exploring their menu further in the future.

Yelp
Everything I've tried at this restaurant is excellent. I originally wanted the Camarones Al Coco but our waitress shook her head and said no. I assume that meant they were all out of coconut. I went with the Camarones Al Tamarindo and a house margarita. The homemade Tamarindo sauce is phenomenal and margarita comes in a super cute tequila bottle. My only complaints is that it's hard to communicate with the staff and the parking sucks.
google avatar

Amie B.

Yelp
This is a fun little stop downtown - yummy margaritas, calamari, and tacos for us!!!!

Brandie N.

Yelp
It's okay, slow service only people there, wouldnt go back, try the marlin tacos I think is what we had

Yelp
Fantastic food every time. Good cocktails as well. The service is friendly and prompt. Super casual and laid back. Definitely on our regular rotation now!

Yelp
Nice place, the quesabirria tacos were bomb! Had the mango margarita and it was delicious too. My husband got a ceviche it was good but it could have been better
