Where Cookbook Author Rick Martínez Eats Near Home in Mazatlán, Mexico | Eater

"A Mexico City–style masa-focused kitchen where the owners nixtamalize and grind their own corn and build a menu around masa-rich classics—gorditas, tlacoyos, huaraches, quesadillas, sopes—delivering authentic CDMX flavors far from home. Standouts include a gordita de chicharrón prensado (crispy, fatty pork pressed into masa) and a thick, chewy quesadilla de huitlacoche with Oaxacan cheese; there’s also a messy, deeply satisfying pambazo: telera dunked in guajillo sauce, grilled, and stuffed with chorizo, potatoes, beans, lettuce, crema, and queso." - Rick Martínez

An amazing meal and experience. We were made aware from Rick Martinez' Eaters rec, and felt we had to try it. We were lucky to get a seat right in front of the chef, with a smaller homey store, quick service, a small menu and a small (likely 10ish year old) cashier, it was amazing. The menu is apparently made around their masa which is made from corn that they nixtamalize themselves. I love the different fillings and masa based dishes. We got the tlacoyos, gorditas and huitlacoche quesadilla (ate like mushrooms). They were so good, the masa so soft and perfectly cooked, the salsa macha so flavorful. The price of this could be so much more and yet I think chef is doing this for the community. Thank you chef and her family for an amazing meal.

It is a small restaurant, but the food is reminiscent of a Mexican grandmother's cooking.... the Oaxaca mole its very tasty, gorditas, sopes, etc

That hidden gem serving high quality food made by an actual chef at local prices. Happy I tried the mole, first time and you can tell it was precisely cooked (wasn’t my palate but I can def appreciate the complexity). Type of place you’ll just keep coming back to.

Excellent food and friendly service. They have two locations - this one and another, smaller place on Miguel Aleman. I recommend both.

My favorite restaurant in Mazatlán! Lovely owners and delicious food! Truly authentic Mexican flavors. I do wish they would create a 2nd menu in English. Google has a hard time translating the menu so I never know what to order. So far, everything I've tried has been delicious including the incredible desserts in the glass display case. Fonda La Chilanga is a must try❣️ 100%
