"Get your Puerto Nuevo-style lobster fix away from the barkers and touristic town where the dish gets its name. One of a pair of hidden gems in the Black Market (along with Muelle Tres), La Cocedora de Langosta only serves the dish when the lobster is fresh and in season. You’ll also find modern Baja-style ceviches, aguachiles (seafood in spicy lime juice), and soy-sauce-dressed sashimi and tiraditos (Peruvian-style raw seafood in spicy lime juice) made with fine seafood like abalone, geoduck, or Pismo clams sourced from local estuaries, farms, and divers." - Bill Esparza

We were in Ensenada on our cruise and found La Cocedora for lunch. The food was incredible! Fish was fresh and service was great. Chef/owner came even by to chat. Staff bilingual and didn’t even mind our terrible Spanish. Good kid options. Show them some love and get some great fish! Ps. The margs were strong and delicious too!!

Google
The food at La Cocedora was amazing! Our local guide recommended this restaurant and it was spot on delish. I ordered the langosta (lobster) Puerto Nuevo style and it comes with rice and beans. My "medium" sized lobster was actually huge! It was cooked to perfection and was tender and juicy. I got garlic butter with it as well. Hubbs ordered the tuna and it was super fresh and it came in small cubes and braised on all sides. It was magnificent. This is the place to have excellent seafood. We spend around $85 for everything including three beers. I will definitely go back here again when possible. Salud!

Google
Owner was gracious- all of his recommendations were on point... this is now our favorite place to go eat..

Google
We went to this place hoping we would find lobster puerto Nuevo style but definitely this is not it.you might as well just drive to puerto Nuevo . Honestly but what flavor can white rice bring to this dish ???…very disappointing

Google
Great food with a super private environment for when you want to have a nice meal peacefully. The ceviche Macha was amazing. If you like octopus try the botana de pulpo y camaron.

UPDATE: Seriously, this is Michelin Star ⭐ level cuisine. After multiple visits over the years I've decided that this is an experience EVERYONE should experience. The shrimp and serrano ceviche was nuanced and delicate. It had cucumbers, freshly pickled red onions and vinaigrette The lobster is always perfectly cooked, and I think I'd just visit for the beans alone. -------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW: Outstanding staff, and the lobster is superb. Make sure to try the clam ceviche with mango and pickled onions. This was a special meal for us. When we asked the waiter if they had fish tacos, he graciously told us they didn't have it on the menu but he would gladly go grab some for us down the street with a local vendor. A+ will visit again.

Google
A pretty known spot in Ensenada for good sea food. Not sure, but maybe they where off this day. I would say the service is good. Very attentive and friendly. A friend and I wanted a whole fried fish. They didnt have any. But the waiter went out to the local fish market which is literally door steps away and got us 2 fish. Only issue was that the fish had no flavor. It was missing a lot. It was basically just fried and served like that. No salt, no pepper, just plain bland. My other friends ordered the lobster, he said it was good but not great. The agua chilies was very spicy, I think they used ghost peppers or habanero. Gave it a hard kick but still pretty good. Not sure if it was an off day for them, we went on a Monday. But I heard it could have been better, and I agree just add salt and pepper to the fish before frying. Oh the oysters Rockefeller were good.

Google
To be honest it was not worth it it's over priced ! The only menu Item I loved was the fried fish , that was on point!!

Tish G.

Yelp
We got a lobster dish and a bread bowl or clam chowder. Both were fresh and tasty. The service was excellent, our camarera gave suggestions and told us the history of the restaurant. We will come back when we return to this area.

Alan K.

Yelp
I came here for only one thing, lobster! It did not disappoint although the price tag is heavy for the lobster, but the lobster was absolutely delicious. I think what I really liked about this place is that they accommodated my friend with his vegetarian needs. The vegetarian pasta dish that they generated looked very appetizing. This place is on the north side of the black fish market so there is less foot traffic.

Yelp
Well. This place is a hidden gem. Great food. Amazing ambience. Good service. If you're looking for a hole in the wall where you can really enjoy some amazing seafood in ensenada, give this place a try. Parking was easy because we went on a week night. Not sure how it is on busy weekends. When we went the restrooms were out of order but no big deal. The place feels like a movie set. The decor is just so perfect. The smell of the place is of ocean and fresh seafood and spices. The owner David (he and his wife own the joint but wifey wasn't there that night) is a gregarious fellow. Full of good belly laughs and affable. Our server Alexandra was great. She was a bit shy and quiet at first but soon opened up. The food is amazing. Tasty. Prepared with care. Don't go if you're in a hurry. Experience this place with time and relax. I had the octopus, my hubby had the lobster, mom had the tuna and dad had the mixto (he wasn't so excited about it because I think he was jelly about the lobster ). Place is small. Quiet for the most part but I'm guessing when it's full, volume goes up. Family friendly, but I'd say this is more of a grownup place. Enjoy enjoy! Cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
Went here while we were on the Carnival Cruise. We got dropped off in downtown and I was looking for a place that specializes in lobster and I found it with La Cocedora de Langosta! We got the medium sized lobster with the garlic butter seasoning ($82). It comes with rice, bean and tortillas which were delicious to make a lobster taco. Even the side salad was so delicious!! We also absolutely loved their green salsa with our tortilla chips. The service was great and super friendly! My partner said it was the best lobster he ever had and I can agree. I love lobster and it was really fresh and cooked to perfection! If you are ever in town, this is the place to try!

Mary Ann C.

Yelp
Amazing .. great service .. fresh and so delish ... 4 of us ate with each having a different dish and each was excellent... pricing way better then US lobster prices

Rochelle 'Shella' T.

Yelp
My hubby wanted good lobster. But going to Puerto Nuevo was too far away. So we managed to find this place just across from Pueblo Antiguo. We were fortunate that it was late for lunch, so it was no problem getting a table. We were so excited to see all the great seafood options: ceviche, lobster, octopus, etc. For Mexican standards, it was expensive. But it saved us a trip from going to Puerto Nuevo. And it was reasonably- priced by US standards. Loved the lobster and ceviche: shrimp and octopus. I also got the seared tuna, which was lity seared and kept the fresh juicy flavor of the tuna. Glad we found this place. Would love to try the other items on the menu next time.

Sandi C.

Yelp
Great Lobster dinner with the family! Great prices and excellent service. Miles isn't in the oicrures but it was his first-time having lobster. He's not a shrimp eater so wasn't sure if he would like the lobster but he did

Greg T.

Yelp
BUYER BEWARE!!! We had a very unfortunate experience here as san diegans visiting ensenada. This was our first stop on our trip, we made a reservation with their services, and when we showed up to the restaurant, they handed us menus, sat us down, and then 10 mins later said the kitchen is closed. They offered us an alternative meal, "spanish tapas" they said. They said it was a special event and so we trusted them. Unfortunately, my wife and i paid $84 usd for a small bowl of rissotto and a bunch of burned, overcooked smoked.meat served by a tipsy restaurant associate (i think he worked there but honestly unsure). It was a single plate of pork pineapple,.really bad steak and 2 shrimp skewers. All this occurred as they brought out another patrons freshly prepared lobster. All in all, we realized quickly (once the "tapas" arrived as a large plate of burnt meat) we had been duped on this transaction, and we admit defeat. The price of the food was arbitrary and inflated for us as americans, and as we left we were even laughed at. In all honesty we should not have trusted the staff to be able to produce tapas, and just left. But we trusted these employees and were taken advantage of. I am glad they made their money, as it seems like an odd ruse and times must be tough for these guys, but we will never go back to this place again.

Erica A.

Yelp
Hands down best lobster, ceviche and oysters we have ever had. Lobster al mojo de ajo, oyster al agua chile and ceviche de atún were al must haves

Andelu L.

Yelp
Came with gf around 10 am, no other customers present in the restaurant , waitress said they only served breakfast now and regular dishes would be available until 12:30; return around 3pm, only one customer dining inside, so we were wondering why no one came to eat here because yelp score was high. After we started eating we know: 1. Food below average, shrimp ceviche super salty and abalone tasted the same due to using the same soy sauce. 2. Pricy! Shrimp ceviche, tuna ceviche and abalone costed 78.12 US dollars. If the food was tasty, I would be okay with the price, comparing with the same quantity of food in California, however this is Ensenada.3. Service was below average as well.

Dexter T.

Yelp
Friendly chef recommending his delicious dish during docking at Esenada. Highly recommendations for travellers who are docking and touring around the town Clean restaurant comparing to the rest around the streets.

Mario C.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! Wow! Wow! Wow! We had the shrimp salad to start and it was delicious! Then the Lobster was fresh and extremely tasty! I would not only recommend this place but will be back! Staff was very friendly and attentive. FYI this is where the locals eat not on main drag with all the tourists. Highly recommended it!

Lisa V.

Yelp
we got off Royal Caribbean cruiseship for some breakfast in Ensenada! i was relieved when we walked in and the lady greeted us and spoke english. she was able to tell us the peso-dollar ratio and they do take credit card. the lobsters are usually served later but they were able to make us some so lucky for us. it was fresh and the tortilla smelled so good and freshly made as well. side note that the ice caramel coffee was bomb!

Victor R.

Yelp
If you come off the boat come eat here it's a lil pricey but worth it the food was amazing the lobster is known here we had one with butter and the soup was good come here don't go to the fish market that's next to this place

Gary N.

Yelp
A friend and I took a day trip to Ensenada and found this place. They have great seafood and nice chairs and tables to sit at. The food presentation was great. I had the tuna and my friend has the catch of the day. They have really good chips and salsa. They take credit cards and debit cards. It's a little off the beaten path but well worth the effort. It's also very clean and the staff was amazing! I will be back.

Yelp
My husband and I celebrated our first anniversary at this wondeful little restaurant, starting with a unique and superlative tuna ceviche with unexpected orange and mint flavors. We followed with a dinner of two longostas, one with "thermidor" and one just plain, as well as a delicious bottle of white wine. We'd had a bad experience with langostas in Puerto Nuevo, which is supposedly famous for the lobsters, so we were a little wary - wrongly! Our anniversary lobsters were large, prepared thoughtfully, and tasted spectacular. David, the owner, clearly takes pride in his restaurant, and so pays attention to every detail is the dining experience. Note: If you have to wait for a table, there's a fish market around the corner that's fun to visit, and explains why everything on the table was so perfectly fresh!

Jesse V.

Yelp
Food was ok and it took over an hr with only 3 families in the restaurant disappointed on the service and good quality

Ashley P.

Yelp
We took a Royal caribbean cruise and weren't planning to get off until some staff told us about this place. Got a round trip shuttle to downtown for $4 and walked the 4 blocks here. The food is amazing and great staff. The Tuna was the best I've ever had. The taste was phenomenal and seasoned to perfection. The abalone my husband loved because of the sesame oil. The sauce that came with the raw oysters was so good and paired perfectly. I don't think I'd order the rockfella oysters again because it was to much cheese for us. The lobsters we ordered were small. Online it says they open at 12 but it's actually 12:30. Highly recommend this place.

Martha M.

Yelp
I'm puzzled by the 5 star reviews. Maybe we came on a bad night. Maybe they only undercooked my lobster tail or maybe it just wasn't worth $40 bucks (our bill plus sodas & hubs mixto cocktele totaling $60), it just wasn't worth it. The only thing tasty was the tomatillo salsa. Chips were hard & bland, rice & beans were not what I expected & the flour tortillas were not homemade & cold/not warmed up. Lobster tail was chewy/rubbery, not cooked long enough. Hubbys cocktele lacked seasoning, it was watery with barely any spices or lemon juice. Service was Ok. The place is typical rural crusty crab sea decor - definitely outdated. It was a birthday dinner & well it just wasn't good. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't doable either. Should've stuck to Puerto Nuevo, although I heard there are good lobster restaurants here in Ensenada. This wasn't one of them. No parking, you'll have to park far and walk because it's a popular seafood boardwalk area, near the naval base & they have night time market night/fair. The Carnivals which is a big party Atmosphere, is coming up end weekend of February.

Tanya C.

Yelp
We had an incredible meal with impeccable service. We called ahead and asked if we could dogs and they allowed us to do so - and when we arrived they had seated us in an area with ample room for the dogs. Of course we had to order the most popular item, the Puerto Nuevo style lobster. It was perfectly prepared - deep fried I think - and the tortillas, beans and rice were great sides. Finally, we ordered the oysters and the small steamed clams and they were all perfectly fresh and delicious. We will be back!

Raul S.

Yelp
The best fresh lobster and ensenada you need to try it to believe we recommended 100 ;/. And the garlic shrimp delicious

Natalie W.

Yelp
So many better, cheaper options in Ensenada. The lobster was dry and chewy, the side salad was a handful of mixed greens with no dressing, even the garlic butter was flavorless. The shrimp cocktail was ok but the avocado in it wasn't ripe yet. The coke isn't refrigerated, it's a warm can that they pour over ice that melts immediately. Pretty much nothing was good. I felt so dumb paying $115 USD while surrounded by delicious cheap eats in the Mercado Negro. Don't be dumb like me.

Robert M.

Yelp
Service was great! Oyster appetizer was phenomenal!!! My wife and I shared a few a few items! The spinach, grilled shrimp was AWESOME!! We love the house vinaigrette dressing was some of the best dressings we have had!! We split the lobster dinner, the Puerto Nuevo lobster. It comes with rice/beans and drawn butter. Also coming with our meal were freshly made tortilla chips straight from fresh tortillas!! Verde salsa was fantastic! We absolutely will be back to this fantastic restaurant!! Everything here is made in the house, except for the lobsters they catch in the ocean! LOL The food here is amazing and the Flan dessert is freshly made here as well, some of the best we have had as well! The bathrooms were very clean, this place is a super awesome find it. If you come down here please check out this restaurant if you love freshly made food. This place is a hidden gem!!

J G.

Yelp
Amazing food! The owner was really nice and staff as well! They were able to accommodate my shellfish allergy with no problem!

Adriana V.

Yelp
My friend and myself shared the Ceviche Verde de Camarón and Ceviche Tatemado de Camarón... let me tell you one of the best ceviche I've ever tasted.... It's not your typical ceviche that you get at the outside restaurants nearby. Definitely coming back for me

David H.

Yelp
Oh my. Where do I start! This was such an amazing meal for my wife and I. We were greated by one of the owners. She was so frieldly and welcoming. We started with a smoked fish type of appetizer. Can't remember the name, but was amazing. Added the seafood soup. Clams, octopus and mussels melted in our mouth. Wife got an order of mussels. Again, melted in our mouth. Then i have a fish dinner that had a sort of foamy sauce on top. So delicious. Lastly, a lobster on the side. Pure heaven!! We will be back. Hopefully soon!

Jennifer O.

Yelp
Excelente servicio. La comida espectacular. El mesero nos recomendó el ceviche Tatamado y se los recomiendo. La pasta Pesto fue mi favorita. Excelente lugar.

Orlando G.

Yelp
The food was amazing. The lobster and fish were the best I ever had. Service is a bit slow hence the 4 stars.

Paola N.

Yelp
Family seafood dinner. THE AMBIANCE: Close to the marina, this medium-sized restaurant sits next to a parking plaza (that is always packed). It is an easy walk over. The dining space is nice and comfortable with wooden tables and chairs. THE LANGOSTA (LOBSTER): They have an array of dishes - mariscos like ceviche, lobster, pastas etc. I came for the lobster and ordered my lobster that comes with beans and rice. I have to say that I was not a big fan. The lobster was too dry for my liking. It was definitely overcooked. Not sure i'll be back for the lobster. May try something else.

Gloria L.

Yelp
I'm with Caroline K. Maybe our expectations were too high. We came in the night before to check it out and looked at the reviews. All looked very good and we were warmly greeted by the gentleman from the night before. It seemed like they were not happy with us. Neither of us wanted the lobster since it was only half a pound. Especially, if it wasn't great. We can drive to Puerto Nuevo for good lobster. Also, the photo of the Shrimp looked so good. I really didn't want rice but our waiter kindly said they could substitute the clams for shrimp in another dish. My husband ordered fish with garlic and olive oil since they didn't have the fried fish. There was a tomatillo salsa on the table but they didn't bring chips to go with until hubby asked-after we had ordered. The salsa was ok but not my fav. Dinner came and it was ok-not particularly flavorful though. The shrimp came with a sauce of mushrooms, onions, garlic and white wine. It was the better of the two dishes and it was just sorta good. The pasta was quite al dente-close but even more than I would make & I love my pasta al dente. The fish was good-cooked well and flaky but still lacked flavor. If you got a garlic nugget, they were good but there were not enough to save it. The rice was pretty tasty though. Nothing was so great we would come back. Sometimes, it's just what you order but we weren't excited with any of ours. There are just so many restaurants in Ensenada to try so we will try somewhere else.

Caroline K.

Yelp
Reading the reviews I think I expected too much. Lobster was 700 pesos market price the day we went. Definitely not worth... They were a bit overcooked and and bland.... Ended up spending way too much here. Might as well have spent it back in Cali. The clam ceviche was in the 100 peso range ( I forgot) and was great with the tortilla chips!

Verenice A.

Yelp
Food was delicious.Fresh Lobster and excellent flavor Great location Kinda pricey but its in the touristy area.

Martin V.

Yelp
The lobsters were delicious! The waiters, managers., and Cooks were on their " A" game. I highly recommend this restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

Patty M.

Yelp
We came here about 3 weeks ago and it was delicious!! We ordered agua chile for appetizers and camarones al chipotle and lobster as main dish. They did not disappoint. We came back again and ordered ceviche traditional and omg do good!! Come here if you are in Ensenada!! Great customer service too even when they are busy.

Jamie F.

Yelp
I've been here twice while we cruised on the Carnival Radiance. Once the end of January and second the end of February. Both times have been great. The restaurant was clean and the service was good. They say they open at noon, but I would give them until 12:30. First my favorite thing about this place is the chips and salsa. It is the best salsa I've ever had. It's spicy and tangy and I could eat it everyday. The ceviche is my next favorite. We got lobster the second visit and it was good and the tortillas were so good! This will be our go to spot every time we go to Ensenada.

Jim E.

Yelp
This is the place to go if live lobster is what you are looking for. They have live Abalone too. We had their shrimp ceviche. Very fresh and very little citrus in their version of ceviche. Good beer selection too.

Adriana M.

Yelp
Ceaser is the best waiter in all of Mexico !! He truly made our experience amazing !!! I swear I think he read my mind at times !!! The foood was breathtaking !!!!!!!!!! Honestly it tastes like Mastros in Beverly Hills !! It's very clean !!

Manny B.

Yelp
The food was awesome! Fresh seafood and a lot of choices on the menu! My Wife had the super Lobster and I had super sea Bas so delicious

Bonnie N.

Yelp
Lobster was amazing and service was amazing. We also ordered a beer and a lime soda, and chips and salsa were complimentary. We will definitely be back!

Ole P.

Yelp
We were on a cruise and were hoping to go to Puerto Nuevo AKA "Lobster Village". It was too far from the port so we had to get our lobster fix near the port. We found this place. As a FYI, they open at 1:00pm for lunch. The service was great. The restaurant was clean. We ordered the Puerto Nuevo lobster where I got my fix! I think it was about $45 for the lobster which is the average price. It's crazy how tender and sweet the lobster is in Ensenada. Sooooooo good! Nothing close in California that tastes like this. It came with a side of rice. We also ordered the ceviche. I'm used to the old fashioned ceviche with shrimp, tomatoes and red salsa. This ceviche was different because it came with black olives, fish, shrimp, onions, jalapeños. If you like olives you will really like it this way. I'm not a olive person and I liked it but it needed some spice. My friend that loves olives l, loved it! We also ordered Shrimp al mojo de ajo (garlic shrimp). It was also good but needed a kick. The shrimp were nice and big. If we go on a ship and stop at the same port, we would definitely go back!

Mimi D.

Yelp
the ceviche verde de camaron is to die for... i like to dump the entire cup of salsa verde they give you & mix it up to make it spicy & add salt & acid

Mauricio M.

Yelp
A bit expensive!!! The food was ok, it for that amount of money Ry you can find other places that serve you better food and customer service. Very American even though we travel to experience Mexican culture

Yadira A.

Yelp
Service was excellent! Our waiter was very attentive, gave us dollar prices on fresh lobster cooked $44.00 usd in a variety of ways. They start off with totopos/chips, baked tostada and salsa Verde cruda- spicy hot very delicious. My son ordered the Al Mojo de Ajo deep fried Lobster very buttery juicy, tender with so much garlic flavor in every bite. My family ordered a cocktail shrimp, there was probably about dozen shrimp including cucumber, cilantro, tomato, onions and avocado with a side of Saladitas Gamesa saltine crackers. My daughter ordered pasta very delicious with olive oil and parmesan cheese, she enjoyed it so much. My husband, brother and I ordered the shrimp scampi including side salad and rice. Shrimp was so juicy tender full of garlicy flavor in every bite! Arugula, spinach salad ,cherry tomato with a soy sauce flavored dressing. The white rice was perfectly cooked. My family and I would definitely recommend this Restaurant because of the fresh food cooked when you order.

Cathy C.

Yelp
This was one of the best lobster i've ever had, great price. Their octopus was super tender and great flavors. Great Lobsters!!The service was great and very accommodating.

Israel G.

Yelp
If you find yourself in Ensenada, you must check this place out. Everything is Fresh and the beer is cold. Along with great salsa and warm staff this is the place to have your Lobster.

Andrew C.

Yelp
When you come looking for lobster in Ensenada, look no further than La Cocedora de Langosta. The lobster is a some of the finest I've eaten; fresh from the sea and alive in a tank when you walk in. This is a gem not to be missed whether you are local or a vacationer. I provided a picture to help visualize, but you need to see and taste to believe.

Deanne M.

Yelp
Loved! Loved! Loved! From Los Angeles came to Ensenada trying to find somewhere with some kind of farm seafood!!! We accidentally ended up here and was meant to be! The lobster is FIRE! And the fish ceviche were phenomenal!!! The oysters were too big for my mouth lol but I just cut them in half ha ha ha LOBSTER A MUST!

Minna C.

Yelp
Try if you dare . . . First off let me begin by stating this is the second time my family and I come to this restaurant. A group of 18 people and I came last year during Labor Day weekend and although the food was good (we got clams, lobster and shrimp) the overall experience was sour. There was a lack of service and the waiter tried adding an additional 350 peso tip to our card charge after we had given him a physical tip. The second experience this past Saturday was worse. First off the service was horrendous! It was clear that the waiter was not trained on anything and the food was mediocre. I understand that food can't be rushed but to honestly take more then half an hour to make three small lobster burritos is ridiculous. The fish plate my aunt ordered we think was incorrect but a second waiter because our waiter was incompetent argued that it wasn't. They had also ran out of clam chowder, like really? It was still early in the day. To end we will definitely NOT be coming back. We thought maybe we'd give this place a second chance in hopes it would redeem itself. But there's so many other places that are better priced, 700 pesos for basic lobster burritos? Please walk around before you dine here!

Melanie R.

Yelp
Our food was incredible! I had the shrimp pasta which was good, but the Oysters, ceviche and lobster is where its at!!! The chips and salsa verde was a good start and the tortillas seem to be made fresh. Taking a nap now!!!
