"Kenner has several excellent Honduran restaurants, but La Cocinita out by the airport is one of the very best and one of the oldest. Ricardo and Raul Ortiz specialize in plates of pollo con tajadas, Ceibenan specialties, and breakfast, which is also served at dinner. On weekends, go for seafood or beef tripe soup." - Beth D'Addono

Yelp
My absolute favorite place to go for a delicious overfilled plate. Had my coworkers swarming me asking where I got my plate from.

Wesley C.

Yelp
The food was delicious and tasted like home cooking. Very big portions as you can see in the pictures. Reason for 4 stars is because it took a bit long for order to be ready for pickup.

Bella B.

Yelp
You can never go wrong with this place! Anytime I visit NOLA I always come by to eat some delicious Honduran food. Be warned though the food portions are a lot, so they are shareable. I would say this place is pretty solid.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Omg this place has very authentic food! Can't wait to go back and the portion are huge

Carly L.

Yelp
Love this place ! Super fresh hot food ! Huge portions! Extremely worth the walk from near by doubletree hotel ! Super friendly staff! Been coming here for years ! Always delicious!!! I could eat here every single day !

Grace A.

Yelp
Great food and great service, I will definitely come back, I ordered Pollo con Tajadas delicious

Sara O.

Yelp
Had some of their vegetarian tacos on the way out of Second Line and they were amazing - must try if you are in town, they let us try all of the sauces and they were definitely planning on going back as soon as possible!

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Great good. Decent service and of course LGBTQIA's++ friendly. . Great decor. Especially for my twitter pics

Jacob C.

Yelp
This place is all about authenticity; Be prepared and not in a bad way. Not a whole lot of English anywhere in the restaurant, But don't let that deter you! Staff banter with patrons in Spanish, Singing outbursts happen sporadically... I feel like that when I walk out the front door, I'll be in the heart of Honduras. As far as the food goes... amazing. The steak is tender and seasoned very well. Tortillas are fresh made daily. It's simple, no flair, but you can tell some pride was taken. I always recommend this place to anybody coming through New Orleans. If you're looking for a light lunch and there's two of you, split the Carne Asada!

Chris W.

Yelp
Chuleta Ceibeña, so good!! Friendly staff, clean tables and a soccer game to watch. Food was excellent though, delicious plantains, chicken cooked perfectly. Will be glad to return and try something new :)

Loida G.

Yelp
Large portions. Delicious Central American food. There's lots of restaurants in the New Orleans area, but this hole in the wall is one of the few I want to be a regular at.

Chris L.

Yelp
Food took a while to come out, but it was worth the wait. The plate was as packed as the restaurant. Carne asada was worth the trip.

Jamie C.

Yelp
This place is so delicious and reasonably priced. Believe me when I say it's hard to find authentic Latin food. I have been coming here for years. Parking is not the best, but this place is a great "hole in the wall" I would highly recommend.

Sammara M.

Yelp
Good food but waiting time is ridiculous!! Need more personal attending costumers. I ordered my food through the phone, was told by OWNER that it would be ready in 20 minutes, when i get there 40 minutes later they haven't even started making my food.. 1 hour later i was assured 10 more minutes about 1hour and a half later my phone was ready. So make sure you order and give it 1 hour to pick it up!

Becky C.

Yelp
I could live on their baleadas alone for the rest of my life! I got it to go, & I couldn't wait to eat it, so no picture- I'll get another one for lunch & add a pic Lol The baleada is huge, either a 10" or 12" grilled tortilla (slightly thicker than a standard tortilla). Beans were creamy & well seasoned, must have been 1/2 of an avocado in there, & it's not sour cream, but Honduran crema- perfection! Could have been a little more cheese, but still worthy of 5 stars! I

Emmy R.

Yelp
Authentic Hispanic food for a good price! I love their Baleadas and Carne Asada! I dine in as well as order to go. They complete your order very quickly and the customer service is great. Try it you won't regret it!

Sam A.

Yelp
This place has the best Spanish food!!! So delicious! The food is always fresh. The workers are really nice. The carne assada is my favorite dish I always get it. It leaves me full for hours. It's enough food for 2 people and plus can't beat the price !

Eli T.

Yelp
The food here is authentic. The café con leche was so good. I ordered another one to go. The first one was so hot, I had to wait a few minutes to drink it, but I love my coffee really hot. The bf had 3 taquitos de pollo. He ate it all. I had a baleada that was huge. I forgot to take pictures because I love Honduran food and was so excited finding an authentic Honduran place. I ordered the tajadas con pollo frito. It was a very large plate. I barely ate anything off of it. It had about 3 or 4 pieces of fried chicken. So delicious! They also serve pupusas but we didn't order any. Loved the restaurant!

Karolyna R.

Yelp
Great little restaurant. Nachos Cafe En La Cocinita. The owners have found a great way to combine both of their cultures. (Wife is from Honduras & husband is from Mexico) You get A LOT of food for a very good price. One of my favorite dishes is the beef and chicken fajitas, which comes with salad, rice, beans, a big slice of queso fresco and a side of tortillas, maduros or tostones. I opt for the maduros... always! All for just $12.00 The taquitos Hondureños are very good as well. You really can't wrong with anything you order.

Sara M.

Yelp
The balaedas are so good here!! Everything is so fresh and you can taste it! I could live off of the steak one or chicken. Both are so good!!!

Greg E.

Yelp
Went here bc the Nola Nica restaurant was packed. Good service and excellent carne asada, w beans and rice. Platanos verdes were meh but the maduros were delicious. I want to figure out the cut of meat they use for asada so I can do it myself.

Renato O.

Yelp
Really liked this place! The food was great! Try the carne azada platter. It's good for two people but if you are a big eater, get your own plate. They also had friendly service. The pupusa's were delicious; also huge! I would definitely come here again.

Jeanine D.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect walking in. Thankfully I was pleasantly surprised. I had the carne asada and it was to die for! Huge plate and definitely worth the price. I know what I'm having for lunch tomorrow. My leftovers!

Johanna A.

Yelp
The food is authentic and delicious! Real Honduran food!!! It's even better that everything is made to order. The platters are enormous at very decent prices!! Service can be shaky but that's how most of these small restaurants are and its ok with me. I don't mind waiting as long as the food is worth it!

Osmery B.

Yelp
They serve the best carne asada. It's worth my drive from Algiers to Kenner. Big portions. Great prices. Their horchata is also good. I would post a picture but I always devour my plate.

AJay J.

Yelp
A great find, truly authentic food. From the time I walked in the door I knew this was a great spot. Tables full of people on a Monday night which is a great sign to me. The wait was a little long for the food so be prepared to wait for amazing food.

Jakki H.

Yelp
I had the fried fish and my husband had the porkchops we ordered the chicken taquitos as appetizer. All the food came out at once. Very huge portions ordered way too much food. Authentic Honduran food. Reminded me of times when I would travel with my family to Honduras! Nostalgic!!

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Love love this place. We order to go a lot. Food is fresh and always good. Carne Asada meat is very good

Estefjanyia P.

Yelp
Do not go to this place. I ordered food via phone 30 mins before I got there. Once I went to pick up my food it wasn't made. Fine, I waited a bit longer after a long day at work. I went on to ask how much longer what's taking so long? The owner went on to say this isn't a fast food restaurant where we sell fast food ( but yet it's been 45-50mins wait) and went on to say I can go elsewhere if I like. Very poor customer service. I also noticed they pick up food they drop and put it back in the plate and do not use gloves. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. Poor customer service and horrible hygiene

A P.

Yelp
Great food at decent prices! Sometimes service is slow but the food is so good we keep coming back!

David F.

Yelp
Deliciousness is the best way to describe this authentic meal that I had, the breakfast special with carne and fresh pineapple juice. It was packed with families on Sunday morning. Very nice open and friendly.

Ben M.

Yelp
The best authentic Mexican food I ever had. I had #16 , a huge portion that can feed two ppl, it came with a large pieces of steak with sides of , rice salad, beans, slices of fresh avocado and large size tortilla, all for $11. Service was great too, i will definitely be back.

Cece M.

Yelp
This was my 2nd time here. Food was just as amazing as the first time. I love that we are the only white people here! And we fumble through ordering because the waitress appears to speak little English. That just makes it more authentic to me. I would never have thought to add sour cream and avocado to eggs and beans, but it works. The plantains are awesome, especially with a little sour cream on them. The pork chops are amazing! Everything together is awesome. One of these days maybe we can make it in for lunch and try something different. All the food looks and smells amazing!

Cristy C.

Yelp
Ayyy que rico! Everything here is amazing. Make sure to get the beef or chicken soup, if it's available. They run out fast! It may seem a little intimidating for you non-Latinos or non-Spanish speaking folk, but as long as you come in and say you're new to this place and tell them what you normally like, they'll help you out. Or, ask what they recommend according to your favorite meat.

Nicole C.

Yelp
So, this is a restaurant tucked away in a strip mall in Kenner...somewhere I would probably never stop. But, luckily, I was with someone who had been before. Walked in at lunch time on a Saturday, place was packed. Only problem, we didn't speak Spanish and our server didn't speak English...there was a lot of pointing and smiling going on. Enjoyed the fried plantains with crema, holy smokes those were so good. Also had was some sort of carne something. Meat wrapped in a fresh warm pita with beans and creamy crumbled cheese. While I didn't really know what we ordered, it ended up being tasty. I am unsure if I would stop by myself...just a little intimidating for me. We were the only Americans dining in (not exaggerating) and while this is no big deal really, felt like all eyes were on us for a little while. note: Get a Mexican Coke in a Bottle, ice cold deliousness.

Ben H.

Yelp
This place is awesome. The location would be what you could describe as a dive... but fear not. When you walk in, you'll know you picked a good one because this place smells like heaven. The food is incredible, affordable, and fun. There is a great festive atmosphere with Latin music, lots of people talking and enjoying themselves, and plenty going on. The wait staff are helpful, quick, and courteous. This place is authentic, so a heads up, they speak very little English. The place is clean, busy, and deserves every bit of a four star rating. Do yourself a favor and go.

Armando O.

Yelp
I've been going to La Cocinita for several month now and love this place. I normally go for the buffet and every dish that I've had is very good. The breakfast is also amazing.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
The food here is amazing!!! I have never ordered anything I didn't like, however that is the only good thing about this place. The employees are rude and will ignore you. If you don't speak Spanish you are pretty much screwed, and if you order takeout always double the wait time because they always tell you 20 minutes even though it's probably an hour. There has been many times when I have left so frustrated saying to myself I would never go back, but the food really is that great. Oh and parking is terrible.

Sonya B.

Yelp
wonderful, fresh, home-made central american food! great prices and delicious! loved their pupusas and curtido and will be back for more!

Moondusterr B.

Yelp
Great breakfast spot! Who needs ihop or Denny's when you can have this? Good food and excellent prices. Our waitress spoke perfect English and was a sweetheart too. Picture below is the #1.

Cristina C.

Yelp
Went to have breakfast, make sure you are hungry. The portions are huge; the cheese they serve with breakfast is to die for. One of the best flour and corn tortillas I've had in a while.

J O.

Yelp
I come here to get my fix of Honduran/latin food. Like in most restaurants in Honduras, the food is great but the service is slow. Since most of its patrons are Hispanic, most people know what they want before they set foot inside. If you happen to wander inside, bring a Latino friend to help you pick out a meal. Picking out of the menu will be very challenging BC they're all over the place and so much to pick from. Being Honduran myself, it took me a while to know what to order. I usually come for lunch and order whatever is already made to ensure promptness. Picking from the menu an item that must be prepared will guarantee 20 minutes if wait minimum to possibly 45 minutes or more. Avoid coming weekend mornings, too hectic there. Since this place has virtually no competition, its prices aren't the cheapest. Overall, the food justifies the means. For an ex pat Honduran like myself, I've had much, much better.... in Honduras.

Aley C.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years .. food and service are consistently good and made to order . Great breakfast spot. Fair potions . Try the baliadas!!

Amalie T.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food!! Very fresh and tasty! My favorite gringo even loved it so we'll definitely be returning to this quaint and authentic restaurant to try more dishes. We both had the desayunos (breakfast) which consisted of eggs, refried beans, choice of meat, plantains with sour cream (yummy!) and cheese. This is all served with your choice of corn or flour tortillas & will definitely fill you up & start your day right!

Christian J.

Yelp
My girlfriend is from Honduras and I am white. We have gone with her family a few times and the service was fine and I really find the food just awesome here. However, whenever it is just me and her we are treated with insulting service. One time we walked in and the place was empty so we ordered some baleadas to go. 5 or 6 Spanish people walked in after us and they each got their food before we did. My girlfriend called the waitress out on it and all she said was I'll go have them start your food. So the food is fantastic but if you are not Spanish or do not plan on going with a Spanish family I really cannot recommend the place.

Jenny K.

Yelp
Not the place to go when you want to get spiffed up and fancy. Go in and grab a table. The waitress will bring you a menu. The menu is in english & spanish so don't worry! I didn't know what to get so I got the #2 breakfast and it was good! My daughter got the Baleada with beef. YUM! Would go back again.

Jessica R.

Yelp
Love the food here but take out here is terrible because they always forget something on your order. Plus staff is rude and there isn't a lot of parking.

Jose G.

Yelp
Food is good. I think for anyone wanting Honduran Food then this could be a good place for. For overall latin cuisine, there is no diversity here as far as flavor. You will find the food better than most local Central American restaurants, not to mention their more than generous dish portions. Ordered Carne Asada, Chuletas and Baleadas. Beef somewhat ok, could be a little more tender, but ok for the price you are paying. Chuletas were deep fried, and over cooked. Baleadas were larger than your average one from local latin eatery, but could use a little more "crema and frijoles" and less eggs to really give it a 5 star. Place is not fancy, and the type of clientele is your average latino you won't find eating at a local fancy restaurant. Very noisy and crowded atmosphere. Will definitely come back and try more dishes from the menu. Prices are very good, portions are very generous. I would choose this place over too many overrated latin restaurants that charge you more with much lesser food portions.

Kristina H.

Yelp
The food is excellent. But warning... no one there speaks english! not even the servers. If you don't speak Spanish, you will likely get frustrated. I asked for chicken Taquitos, even said pollo, yet i got rice and beans with a salad. I had to look up the yelp and show them a picture for them to finally get it. I'd say, if you don't speak Spanish, avoid this place unless you're with someone who can help bridge the language gap.

Jami J.

Yelp
Horrible. This chick was totally rude and impatient with me as I was reading the menu. AND I asked if they had Tropical -a common soda of Central America- and she said no, but a few minutes later I see 5 bottles of the banana flavor being brought out to the table next to me. Two stars because the food is DECENT and reminds me of Honduras.
