Baristas in America Are Sharing Their Salaries — And Hoping for Change | Eater

"Led publicly by co-founder and CEO Todd Carmichael—who has advocated for a $15-an-hour minimum—this specialty coffee company has faced criticism for low entry wages in some markets (reportedly starting at $9 an hour in Philadelphia before tips), causing many employees to rely heavily on gratuities despite customers’ assumptions that the company pays well. An anonymous former employee who worked there for two years helped spur a crowdsourced survey to expose pay levels, saying the shop’s progressive reputation masked inconsistent compensation. Company representatives declined to comment for the article." - Matthew Sedacca

Review: If you're passing through Philadelphia Airport and need a great cup of coffee, this spot at the entrance to Terminal C is a fantastic choice. Their Mocha is excellent—rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced between espresso and chocolate. The baked goods are fresh and tasty, making for a great quick bite before a flight. Plus, the location is super convenient, right at the entrance to Terminal C, so you can grab something delicious without going out of your way. Highly recommend stopping by if you need a quality caffeine fix before takeoff!

Disappointing turkey avocado sandwich - served on a very hard, dry, stale, small croissant-shaped bread (which had no layers whatsoever), and which looked nothing like the croissant pastries served at the counter. Kind server and served warm but basically her heater probably microwaved the sandwich so it was practically inedible when I took it on the plane to eat.

Dealt with the RUDEST employee I ever encountered. I was waiting in line to be served, which was extremely chaotic considering there were 3 people behind the counter and you did not know who was taking orders, who was at the register, who was cooking, etc. I was looking down at my phone patiently waiting when this man tried getting my attention. I had no idea he was talking to me as he did absolutely nothing but yell derogatory things towards me instead of just saying “Excuse Ma’am”. When I realized he was talking to me, I apologize and explained I didn’t realize he was speaking to me (again who knew what was going on behind the counter). He then cussed me out and told me he wasn’t serving me and waived me off. Proceeded to turn towards my daughter, asked her what she wanted, I explained she was with me, then waived her off too. Refused to serve me, completely ignored me. They were the only coffee shop near my gate. Absolutely disgusted with this customer service. Thank goodness the lady at the cash register was willing to help me as all I wanted was a black coffee.

The food is okay, the coffee is really good, and the service is horrible. The people working there are very rude. They pretend that you have guessed their ordering process and have no patience in explaining it, not only to us but to everyone.

Before I caught my flight, I wanted to grab a coffee, but I didn't want the traditional starbucks or dunkin so I tried LA Colombe. The line had about 10 people in it, so I figured it had to be good. Plus, I was waiting for my massage chair to be ready. The service was absolutely horrible when I got there. The gentlemen was taking 2 orders at a time like he was a 7 eleven clerk. He took the orders and then went back to never be seen agai. After waiting about 10 mins, a couple of people asked where their drink was. Another employee came up and started making everyone orders. The cappaccuino was awesome, but the service was horrible.

I have been to all the La Colombe locations in Philly and even one in Boston. The hot chocolate at La Colombe is never too sweet. In fact, it is only mildly sweet. Here, they made it extremely sweet as if they put 3x times the normal sugar levels. The staff was nice but why not stick to the recipe?!

Great location! The guys are super friendly, take their time to explain items on the menu and very helpful with the menu. Tried the Beet root latte - it is different and ok. The service was quick! They were out of my favorite menu item (food) but given the circumstances and coming straight out of the holidays - it is understandable! I will stop by again here. Located right across B2 gate - very convenient!

This was my first time at this place. I loved the coffee and the avacado toasts. The thing that really bothered me was how the cashier behaved. At the time of placing the order, she mumbled something about the order being modified. When the coffee was left at the counter, and attempts were made to confirm if they were the right ones, they were answered but the tone was very rude and snappy. I loved the food. Not sure if I am okay with this behavior. Very disappointed
