NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels, a natural wine bar, has a Flatiron location now, where you can drink mostly French and American wines at a gorgeous green marble bar, or sit in a quasi-animal print chair." - will hartman

NYC’s Most Exciting Spring Restaurant Openings 2024

"Opening: TBD With its 60+ page wine list and sofas conducive to long-term slouching, the original Soho location of Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels is an essential stop for both wine nerds and those who have not yet deleted their dating apps. The new Flatiron location, parked in a squat building from the 1860s, sounds like more of the same. Pair some grilled meat with a Brunello, and keep an eye out for a revamped version of Experimental Cocktail Club—the French import LES bar that closed in 2016—opening below." - bryan kim

Grateful to be accommodated, though experience was odd. We came without a reservation and appreciated that the staff found us space. That said, it felt a bit odd to be standing in a mostly empty restaurant for over an hour and later seated for only 10 minutes, even after ordering a $300 bottle of wine. I understand the need to prioritize reservations, but I wish the hospitality toward walk-ins had felt more welcoming.

Really lovely place to sip, with an extensive bottle selection for when you have a group. The glasses run $15-$20 and the bottles vary in value. So, as is the common advice at good wine bars, get advice from the sommeliers. When I was there, the sommelier that helped our table was extremely knowledgeable, training me with my up-and-coming taste skill and conversing well with the experts at the table. She even changed our mind on a producer. I wish I caught the name of our bespectacled sommelier; she made sure we had great choices. The rest of the staff was flexible and welcoming too, allowing us to chill and then seating us without worrying about reservations since the table was available. Many thanks; I'll come back again when in the area.

We visited this wine bar with a group of five and had an amazing experience! Fortunately, we were able to get a cozy seating area, which really enhanced our time there. The vibe was trendy and modern, creating the perfect ambiance for a night out. We ordered two bottles of white wine based on the server’s recommendations, and we were thoroughly impressed. The wines were unique and absolutely delicious, each one offering something special. We also appreciated the stylish wine glasses, which added an extra touch of elegance. The music selection was spot-on, complementing the atmosphere beautifully. Our server was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, making our experience even more enjoyable. It’s clear she loves what she does, and it showed in her service. Overall, we had a fantastic time and can’t wait to come back for more wine. Highly recommend this spot for wine lovers.

A little jewel in NY! We found this spot by chance and it was the best. Everything was amazing. The atmosphere was super chill, comfortable and nice, the service was outstanding, we felt taken care of at all time, the food was superb, mixed of flavors was on point and the freshness of the local ingredients was excellent. I haven’t had a dining experience like that in ages. Congrats and thank you! Looking forward to seeing you in DC soon

Great wine bar! I sat at the bar and was immediately impressed by how warm and welcoming the staff were. The atmosphere is cozy yet lively, making it the perfect spot for a date or a relaxed evening out.

Google
Sophisticated vibe with an inviting wine list, perfect spot for a semi-casual drink. Couldn’t sing higher praises for the setting, we loved it. The charcuterie board was a tad small. Props to our outstanding server who was happy to swap out one of the cheeses that we didn’t quite have the palate for (the replacement was first-rate). Will be revisiting in the future to try more of the menu.

Yelp
Great spot for a date! They just opened up and have the best interior. We got a seat without reservations and they have excellent service. This is a great spot for a quick glass or they also have amazing entrees and apps. Definitely will be going back!

Yelp
What a nifty little place this is! With a cozy, warm space and a well-situated bar that is perfectly comfortable to sit at, not to mention a well-curated wine by the glass list, La Compagnie is just right for after-work libations with a friend or two. I wouldn't say it's ideal for big groups (might ruin the intimate ambiance), though I didn't venture too deep into the dining area in the back. I loved the Montepulciano by the glass which is light and slightly chilled. While there isn't much in the way of vegan food, my friend and I split the well-seasoned and irresistibly crunchy marcona almonds. The best part of this was the fact that we got in at 6:30 and their happy hour goes until 7. Our bartender was so nice that he allowed my friend her glass at the $5 off for HH pricing even though she arrived 10 minutes after it ended. In my experience, places have a strict cut-off so that was so appreciated and they have a forever customer in me. I will definitely be back as the location is excellent and convenient to Penn Station, Union Square and Flatiron.

Yelp
Ok first of all, the days and hours need to be updated. They are open all 7 days. I was so excited for this to come in my neighborhood, been a big fan of the La Compagnie in soho for years. I really really wanted to love this spot and for it to become my go-to spot in the neighborhood. However, I still think they have a few kinks to workout - like it feels so much more pretentious than the soho one. It's a wine bar for gods sake, not some 10 michelin star restaurant where you have to check in and provide your phone number to grab a seat at the bar. I'll certainly come back because of the convenience and hope that it takes the feel of the original location. Oh and the wines are great, as expected lol

Yelp
We only got drinks here (and spiced almonds) which were all quite good! I had the sancerre and a sav blanc. Both very nice wines. The hostess was very kind to offer us space at the island before a table became available for us. The overall vibe is kinda speakeasy esque. the bar downstairs was also very viby although we didn't know about it until the bouncer was telling us about it as we were leaving (he was kind enough to bring us downstairs to show us)

Yelp
It was by chance that we walked into La Compagnie wine bar after work & Im so glad we did. The server was great - he made an excellent wine recommendation & I enjoyed 3 glasses on happy hour. We snacked on the Gordal Olive Dip with Charcoal Crackers and shared a small cheese & charcuterie board. Both were delicious. I am still thinking of a way to make the gordal olive dip at home - it was that good!!!! The charcuterie was perfect for 2 people & we really enjoyed it over wine. The ambiance is what elevates this place - cozy creams & excellently done decor. We stayed for a few hours leaning into the sofa & enjoying ourselves. Highly recommend

Yelp
Overall: Cute and cozy place! Definitely recommend for a date or a night to catch up with friends over a bottle (or more) of wine. Reservation: Made a reservation and it was pretty empty on a Friday night but it was freezing outside and had recently opened. Service: Staff was kind and extremely helpful in picking various wine bottles Ambiance: Well decorated, super cute place. Wine: Great selection

Yelp
La Compagnie Wine Bar has a chic and stylish ambience. It's got a long bar with plenty of seating, and a skinny lamp hanging over almost every seat around the bar. There's also an island to stand at that runs the length of the back half of the bar. Their wine list includes low-ABV, whites, reds, and no-ABV.

Yelp
Compagnie's Flatiron location is a welcome addition to its NYC presence. The wine is great, and the ambiance is lovely -- perfect for a casual glass with a few friends or a romantic night out. Like the first NYC spot, the wine list here has a little something for everyone, and staff is very helpful at making unpretentious recommendations based on preferences. Great addition to the area, definitely worth checking out if you like wine!

Yelp
Love the vibe!!! I stopped by to kill half an hour, so I could only have one glass of wine, but I would definitely going back there when I'm in the area. Friendly staff, chilled music, nice and cozy ambiance. Good for date nights or just chill with friends.

Yelp
Great ambiance! The staff was friendly, fun, and very knowledgeable about wine. I didn't order any food, but will come back to try.

Yelp
The wine selections are excellent. The personalized service was superb. They went out of their way to accommodate food restrictions. Mondo went above and beyond. I'd recommend the Devils on Hogback dates and charcuterie.

Yelp
I love the downtown location of this car, but am not crazy about this one. The bar seating is really obtrusive: the bar is quite high and the high chairs are really heavy and it's just all too big, heavy, clunky and...unwelcoming and uncomfortable. The wine is on par with the other location, and they seem to have invested in nice stemware, but it's not quite as nice as the other location (the stemware at the other location is actually a draw for us!). And the food is similar, but a little different. The portions seemed smaller, but it's hard to say. The service was fine, but there was some sort of tasting going on when we went and so the service seemed preoccupied with that. I'm really glad there is a nice wine bar in the neighborhood that has natural wines! But I wish it had some outdoor seating, or more comfortable and accessible indoor seating. And it's really dark inside, but not in the way that creates a mood. Lastly, they have quite limited hours (T-Sat, 5-?). I think if you are in the area and looking for a glass of natural wine and don't mind being shrouded in a dark, uncomfy cave, it works (but only T-Sat eves after 5). I do like the NA options on the menu. It's kust not an appealing physical space. If you are in the area, you may as well go to Eataly (for wine)...or go for cocktails instead: the neighborhood is riddled with craft cocktail bars, but it's not a wine bar destination.
