"This long-standing Mission gelateria serves Mexican-inspired flavors that you won’t find at other scoop shops in the city, like cherimoya, mamey sapote, and lucuma. Our favorites are the Mexican vanilla and mango. And for the lactose-intolerant and sugar-free among us, La Copa Loca also has a decent selection of soy-based and sugarless gelato and sorbet. Get your scoops in a cup or sugar cone, or maximize your gelato intake and ask for sundae or milkshake." - patrick wong, julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

Cute neighborhood gelato spot. Friendly owner and staff, and tons of yummy flavors to choose from. I love the lemon cream cookie flavor!

Google
UNDERRATED gelato with a european style feel! I was drawn to this place for their *spaghetti eis* which I grew up eating in Germany. Tried it and it was perfectly nostalgic! I went back the other day to get my favorite scoops: strawberry and lemon! HIGHLY recommend going on a hot day and walking around the mission after:)

Google
Great stop after dinner. Lots of different flavors for everyone in the group. Also nice to know they have large to go containers.

Google
Had a very tasty banana/Nutella crepe to go. The vanilla sorbet was kind of gross, though. My mistake for thinking that could be good. I'll try one of the fruitier sorbets next time. Edit: Hi, Mauro. Can't figure out how to reply so I'm just editing my review. I generally try to avoid milk, and remember mentioning this to the staff and asking them to choose a sorbet that would go well with the crepe. But maybe there was a miscommunication because it sounds like what they gave me was a vanilla gelato instead!

Google
Awesome gelato shop in the Mission District. They have quite a few offerings with interesting flavors. I'm lactose intolerant, so it was cool to see that they had a wide array of non-dairy options. Pictured is the dragon fruit sorbet. It was unbelievably purple--made with all natural ingredients. No food coloring added!

Google
Good ice cream and super friendly service! There are so many tempting flavors we couldn’t decide what to have. We ended up with chocolate hazelnut, mango low cal on the one hand and tamarind sorbet on the other.

emily

Google
By far the best ice cream in San Francisco, I love the texture of it, and none of the flavors are too sweet. Amazing selection of fruit sorbets and speciality sundaes, but I always end up going for a chocolate/hazelnut flavor. The best! I hope it’s open forever!

Google
I stoped by today for some ice cream, lucuma flavor ice cream never had it before it was amazing will come back to this ice cream shop in the near future Im from out of town so coming here daily would be an issue : )

Yelp
I am back to the Mission where it all began . I had to go to the original La Loca Copa ( crazy cup ) at Mission District location in the heart of San Francisco to get the scoop . This location is a neighborhood gem for over a decade when it comes to desserts. Sometimes the 22nd street La Loca Copa on a hot day gets as crowded as Mitchell's Ice Cream .There are lots of people of all ages coming here to enjoy scoops of gelato. The gelato flavors come in a range of different types of tastes like sour, sweet, not too sweet ,too sweet, savory and tarty. There is an emphasis of different flavors of Latin American food and fruit for their gelato and dessert offerings which reflects the Folklore of the Mission. I had the Mexican Vanilla and the Pistachio gelato on a waffle cone. It was a good tasty combination of sweet and savory. There are also crepes , croissants , smoothies, and sundaes available. If it's your mission to find good gelato then come to the Mission District on 22nd street between the streets of Capp and Mission. When it comes to gelato the two La Copa Loca locations are consistent and both menus match Come to the Mission and catch some gelato with a dash of agave and exotic flavors by the batch

Yelp
Good gelato place in the Mission with many flavors, including sorbets. I had a rum raisin and an amaretto liquor - neither had strong alcoholic flavors. The service & ambiance are no-nonsense and there are few seats inside. There seem to be regulars coming to this busy corner shop!

James S.

Yelp
Stopped by on a Sunday evening. Gelato is reasonable, maybe 3.5-4 stars, but the service and ambiance pull this place down. They have a decent selection of gelatos and sorbets. I got tiramisu and coconut on a cone. Consistency is decent, slightly on the colder and sweeter side though. The waffle cone was a bit stale, and really brought down the taste. Place is pretty spacious, with plenty of seating, the whole flow of the place is really weird. When you go in, there's some kiosks where you place your order, so it seems like they want you to order first? But that doesn't make sense because you want to see the flavors first, right? How many times have I walked into an ice cream shop thinking Ill get a half scoop, only to walk away with a triple scope on a waffle cone.. So we walked to in front of the ice cream counter to try flavors, before walking back to order. And then took the ticket to give back to them so then they can scoop out the ice cream-- really awkward flow for customers. The staff was nice and polite, but very quiet, and not very welcoming. The place was super quite when we went, so I would have thought they could have greeted us, and welcomed us to try flavors before order, etc.. I can see if you come here often, you'll know how to navigate it all and get straight to your favorite ice cream, but as a first time customer, this place unfortunately was a miss.

Shane S.

Yelp
I recently went here for a sweet treat. Heaps of sorbets that are all vegan. There must be close to a dozen vegan sorbets and a few vegan ice cream flavors. I went with half strawberry sorbet and half dragon fruit sorbet. It was quite alright. Worth checking out if in the area.

Jenn B.

Yelp
Delicious and such a friendly and warm staff. Had the boys with me and they made sure it was pre-k manageable. Will definitely return

Ashley H.

Yelp
I absolutely love this spot! They have concha ice cream sandwiches, milkshakes, and even gelato to go. Every time I've been here it's been awesome flavors and nice staff! There's places to sit inside, outside, or take it with you on the go.

Jack R.

Yelp
Roasting in the city today so we decided to get some Gelato. I can dee why people like it because it's convenient and has a large selection. I'll tell you why we didn't give it 4 stars. First off the Gelato isn't labeled and they woman gets mad at us for asking what flavors are what. Like for instance she asks us what other flavor can the white one be? Well, it CAN be coconut or it can be a cream flavored Gelato right? They also seem to dislike it when we didn't understand Spanish. I get how most people who come here do speak Spanish but you shouldn't knock us for not understanding. No samples given and it was really hard to figure out tge prices on the Gelato because the sign is so worn down. Skip the attitude and just focus more on how you would feel as a customer and you would probably get 4 stars from us.

Yelp
What a find here in the Mission. First time here since Bernie Bee's is closed on a Tuesday. My friend and I are eating our way through ice creams so after my new favorite chicken torta Cubano, again, from That's It, we came here. Cute store with a surprisingly amount of flavors and menu options. It's a little overwhelming but we got through it with a simple double scoop of banana and espresso gelato and the make your own sundae with straticella, banana and coconut gelato with walnuts and chocolate shavings. Plenty of whipped cream too! The gelato is not heavy and the flavors come through cleanly. I do like my whipped cream with a little more sweetness as theirs was fairly plain in flavor. Next time, I'm going with the fruity flavors because my taste of passion fruit sorbet was delicious. Definitely coming back for more! Oh, and the price is great. Under $7 for my make your own sundae. Thank you to the owners for being friendly to families looking for an affordable treat. While we were there, plenty of kids with adults came in. Support the local businesses!!

Deirdre D.

Yelp
Amazing flavors I adore Rum & Raisin and they do the best I've ever tasted. I tried all the flavors at different stages and they are just wonderful. So affordable and if you are having a dinner party they do takeout too.

Kasey H.

Yelp
Small unassuming gelato shop from outside, but I appreciate this place for its immense number of fruity flavor options. They have a lot of gelato classics (vanilla, hazelnut, chocolate, etc.) but their unique feature is the range of fruit flavors. We opted for watermelon, blood orange, passionfruit, and dragonfruit, and tried many more. My favorite was the watermelon - it tasted like true watermelon (not the fake watermelon candy). My least favorite was the blood orange - while good on first bite, the tanginess overpowered such that, against the sweeter profiles of the other flavors, it was too sour and bitter to eat. The gelato consistency was mostly smooth with occasional chunks of icy bits. Most flavors tasted great on the first few bites, but grew to be too much at the end. So maybe order small! Overall, love the emphasis on fruity flavors, but some of the flavors weren't as sweet or good over more bites, and the texture needed to be more consistent.

Yelp
My family and I religiously come to Copa. It's been our spot for at least 12 years. All their gelato and sorbet is delicious. The service is always great as well as the establishment. I appreciate the indoor and outdoor seating area too! I would highly recommend their fruit sorbets as well as their special sundaes. They usually have new flavors that pop up seasonally as well!

Avani V.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place randomly during the heat wave this week. Such an adorable spot! The menu is quite large- they offer shakes, coffees, and other desserts as well as a huge selection of gelato flavors. I was also impressed by the amount of sorbet options for those who avoid dairy! There was some seating inside as well as a few (slightly disheveled) tables outside. This was exactly how I wanted to enjoy the summery weather! I'll be back for sure.

Susie K.

Yelp
Updating review just to attach a photo of the addicting fruttone. Planning on buying some pints next time.

Ashlie C.

Yelp
Bad service girls not good at doing their job they speak Spanish and can even communicate on their own language .... For that amount of ice cream is not worth the price

Jennifer L.

Yelp
One of the many ice cream offerings in the Mission. However this one may stand above many of the others with their variety of sundae offerings as well as their extensive menu that includes crepes, shakes among other things. They have a variety of cone options as well. Service was friendly and quick. Per the seven year old, "it was great, BUT there are no pieces of bubble gum in the bubble gum ice cream, which was disappointing."

Wendy H.

Yelp
I was looking for catered desserts for our community events. A lot of dessert trucks demanded a huge minimum - something that wasn't in our budget. La Copa Loca's minimums are reasonable and the gelato is delicious. That was the best chocolate gelato I had in years! They showed up on time and served during the contracted hours. Excellent catering service!

Raquel R.

Yelp
Okay okay okay !!!!! This place is offffff the hoook!!!!! I really recommend this ice cream place it's the best when your in the city . They have different types of gelato flavors super tasty . I enjoy coming here every time with out fail . There's street parking so keep that in mind that your in the city so that can be a hassle . Customer service no complaints by far. Ambiance it's cute and small but I come just for the gelato . I have a full video of my IG @letseatrrjb so you can see the full video of the gelato flavors . Enjoy !

Anton R.

Yelp
La Copa Loca - Amazing Local Gems! Huge shoutout to Mauro and Soni at La Copa Loca! Not only do they have the best gelato in town (seriously, it's incredible!), but they're also the most wonderful neighbors. Soni is baking cookies for our upcoming community event on Saturday, March 23rd at Alioto Park, and Mauro is bringing their gelato cart! This is exactly the kind of community spirit that makes our neighborhood so special. On top of their amazing gelato, La Copa Loca also has delicious fruit juice and makes incredible ice cream cakes. Highly recommend checking them out!

Yvonne T.

Yelp
I love this place! I live nearby and come often because I crave the mango sorbet. My daughter loves the coconut ice cream. So many flavors! La Copa Loca adds so much to the neighborhood.

Michael W.

Yelp
Excellent gelato and espresso, super friendly staff. I will come again. Glad they have the option of 'toddler size' scoops which is really European size so I can have multiple flavors without overeating. Loving this place ! This time I had Lemon sorbet and Malaga, flavors the way I know it. Flavors are all labeled clearly, saw somebody review them bad for not having that, must have been fixed since then ?

Michael F.

Yelp
Reasonable prices, friendly service and quite a delicious selection of standard gelato and sorbet flavors and some you may not be familiar with. At the suggestion of staff, I ordered a 1/2 scoop of cappuccino crunch, and tamarindo do for the other half. The kids tried lemon and dark chocolate. The cappuccino was delicious, but my favorite was the tamarind! With so many other flavors to try, we will be back next time we're in the area.

Brienne W.

Yelp
The concha ice cream sandwich was amazing!! I loved it so much and you can't find it anywhere else.

Yanirett O.

Yelp
Looking for a great Gelato place and this location has many options to choose from. I would recommend going here for gelato.

Ken L.

Yelp
What better place to visit after a nice round of indoor mini-golf? La Copa Loca for sure. Small as it may be, the little store more than makes up with excellent service, love, and of course, the icy treats. The neighborhood gelateria is home to some of the most mesmerizing gelatos around. One such example is the flamboyant dragonfruit. The problem? Too many flavors to choose from! Sampling alone took a little while, not to mention picking out a flavor or two from the mix. Ended up going with quanabana and pistachio. Both were creamy, smooth, distinct, and left us desiring for more. The spot to go for that perfect ending to the evening (or just about any time).

Jeanette Jane G.

Yelp
I've passed this little ice cream shop many times and I finally tried it out. I'm so mad at myself for having waited so long to do so! There are a variety of ice cream flavors and the staff are friendly and helpful. I mentioned it was my first time and they explained their flavors and even let me know what some of their favorites were. I can't wait to go back in a few days! :)

Foodie L.

Yelp
Excellent quality, authentic made gelato. I have been CRAVING yogurt gelato since my trip to Italy pre-pandemic. I was SO excited to find it here and it tasted equally as delicious. A must go for authentic gelato and sweets. Large variety; there's something for everyone. Welcoming family owned joint, I can't wait to come back.

Newton L.

Yelp
A great assortment of gelatos and crepes. I've never had Mexican vanilla but it was delicious. I ordered the crocante, which included hazelnut, Mexican vanilla, and chocolate. It was beautifully presented and the prefect size for one person. Priced reasonably next time will try a crepe!

Shelbie P.

Yelp
This place took care of our sugar craving! We got the banana Nutella crepe with dulce de leche gelato and it did not disappoint! We scarfed it down within seconds. Great place for dessert, and service was great as well!

Keith H.

Yelp
It just so happens that I have a weekly meeting near La Copa Loca, so I've gotten a chance to sample their great gelato and sorbet over the past few months. What I find unique about this place is that they carry tropical flavors such as coconut, tamarind, and soursop, and overall, they do a great job in terms of texture and flavor. I tend to like tart flavors, so I was pleased that their tamarind sorbet was sour but with enough sweetness to make its tartness not be overpowering. I also like their pineapple sorbet, and you can sample several flavors if you need help making a choice. I tried their Piña Colada shake (which combines pineapple sorbet and coconut sherbet) during my most recent visit, and while I liked the combined flavors of the shake, the whipped cream that I added did not taste sweet to me. I'm not sure if the sweetness of the shake overpowered the whipped cream, but the whipped cream just seemed bland. During the late afternoon, this place seems to be a popular spot for children/teens, but I find that the line moves relatively quickly.

Victoria L.

Yelp
Left here with a basket of ice cream (for me & my friends, of course -- although it wouldn't be all that weird if I left with a basket just for myself). I loved the white mint chocolate chip flavor so much that I came the next day to get a pint (The guy recognized me from the basket of ice cream the previous night). At $7 a pint -- probably the most worth it pint a gourmet ice cream shop sell -- you might as well get the pint.

Mary S.

Yelp
Delicious gelato. Pretty quick service, staff is friendly. They have several exotic flavors that you don't usually see available at gelato places. They have a pretty large menu but I tend to get just gelato every time.

Kimberly Y.

Yelp
As someone whose flavor palate leans towards fruity, tart flavors for dessert, La Copa Loca is one of my favorite spots in the city! I cannot get enough of their passion fruit sorbet! It's so refreshing and a true taste of summer! It's my secret indulgence whenever I'm in the area. Confession: sometimes I go out of my way to get it if I'm really craving! Back in January, I had the opportunity to share this cozy little spot with four of my girlfriends and they absolutely loved it. The options for gelato and sorbet are endless, not to mention colorful! Choose your pick from sweet and creamy to tart and fruity. You definitely have to sample a few gelatos/sorbet flavors because there's some unique ones you can't get anywhere else! Thankfully, the staff is always so patient and can make recommendations for the indecisive folks! If you haven't tried this place yet, add it to your list! It won't disappoint!

Marcela W.

Yelp
I got the blood orange sorbet. It had a great flavor, very refreshing and not too sweet. Only, I occasionally got small chunks of ice, but it could've been because it was the very end of the day and it didn't look like a popular flavor. My friend got lemon and strawberry sorbet which was about the same as the blood orange, nice but a little icy. The gelato however was great, very creamy and good flavor, we tried gianduja. The staff was nice and we were served quick. The portions were also decent.

Lara T.

Yelp
It was a cold and windy night in SF after dinner but my friend and I were determined to get some dessert. Among the many delicious ice cream options in the area, the crepes at La Copa Loca caught our eye. We asked for our dessert crepe to be made without gelato so we could enjoy the warm, freshly made crepes, but we both would come again to try the crepes with the delicious looking gelato. Food: - Copa Loca Crepe--$6.75 This crepe was filled with bits and pieces of strawberry, kiwi, and banana. The strawberry jam spread on the inside and the honey drizzled on the outside was a nice added sweetness, as well as the whipped cream. The crepe itself was soft and tender. Tips: - Order at the counter and wait for your crepe to be made/gelato to be scooped before you pay.

Latte Queen W.

Yelp
Yummy and good service. I've had richer gelatos so was hoping for that. Love the variety of flavors. Will try a milkshake next time!

Margarita R.

Yelp
Amazing old fashioned Gelato and other affordable snacks. Their quality can not be topped!

Joe P.

Yelp
Edit: Sandra, there are several bad reviews about you and your snarky, unfriendly attitude. Your "gelato" should be cheaper because your shop is not on a main street. Gelato is a form of ice cream so my comparison to other shops is valid. And thanks, I don't want your sundae, it was probably dragged outside in an open container per the image I've attached. You wouldn't have gotten a bad review if you were friendlier and didnt have a pissed off look throughout our encounter. Even when I asked to use the bathroom, you rolled your eyes and nodded your head to where the restroom was. Maybe you just don't notice how you come off which is the sad part!

Claire J.

Yelp
This place has been on my bookmarks for a long time and I finally got around to trying it. This wasn't my first choice but since they were open earlier than the other ice cream shops, I decided to come here. I got my son their pinocchio sundae because it looked cute and it sounded good. The vanilla was mediocre. My husband's fave flavor is vanilla so I've had a fair share of different kinds of vanilla ice cream or gelato and this one was in the bottom. The sundae was a-ok. I got the low cal mango ice cream which I actually liked. They have a small seating area inside and outside. Since it was a weekday, my kids and I got to enjoy the seating inside.

Linda W.

Yelp
Awesome choices, when Hagen Dazs just won't do. Ice cream, sorbet, and gelato naked or in delicious sundaes. Staff is patient and helpful, but don't expect your HS Spanish to be understood. A couple of outdoor tables for Al fresco dining.

Gmatute M.

Yelp
I found this amazing place, just my lucky day. They have exotic flavors. After trying Tamarindo and guanava sherbet, I had to take a jar home(so sad they did not have the Tamarindo one available to go). Friendly and courteus staff. I will be back soon:)

Karina T.

Yelp
my 8 year old daughter found something strange in the ice cream, I asked for my money back and the owner was very sarcastic and rude

Alana J.

Yelp
My boyfriend introduced me to this spot when we started dating. We still go whenever we're craving something sweet and now we're bringing our kids here. This gelato spot will forever be a part of our family tradition to go to!

Pryscilla T.

Yelp
This place was decent. They already had the crepes premade and warmed it up on the stove top. It was more food than I was expecting, but I'd recommend coming here for just a snack. The vanilla ice cream didn't taste like much. They do give the option of switching out the vanilla with a different flavor, which I'd recommend. Overall, it was more food than I was expecting and I left hungry for more. There's not that many seats inside the cafe, so no big groups might have a hard time finding seats.

Pedro B.

Yelp
Love the passion fruit en dulce de leche gelato great place! My friend got cream of malanga and was super delicious as welll

Kelly B.

Yelp
Love this place. It's been a staple for us while my son is home from school. Delicious ice cream at a reasonable price. Great location. Friendly staff.

Matthew L.

Yelp
Perfect gelato place in the heart of the Mission. Came here after a big meal and was not really craving anything heavy for dessert. What to eat? Gelato! La Copa Loca means the "crazy cup" in Spanish, and serves up a pretty mean cup of gelato. There are many different flavors from the typical mango or pistachio to more exotic flavors like soursop and dragonfruit. As with any food joint, La Copa Loca caters to the local taste with all the wonderful assortment of fruit flavors that can be typically found in tropical Central and South America. ¡Qué rico! I had two scoops of gelato- one kiwi and one blood orange, both of which were rich in flavor but not overly sweet. I also sampled a few other flavors such as the soursop and dragon fruit too, which weren't overly seer either. I don't like my ice cream or gelato that is too sweet, so I was definitely pleased with the sweetness level of the gelato here. Overall I had a great first gelato experience here. I liked the variety of flavors (both usual and unusual) to both sample and eat. If you're feeling adventurous and want to try some exotic fruit flavor gelatos, come here! Buen provecho!

Sergio O.

Yelp
Very good gelato options, I like their unique selection of flavors like Passion Fruit and Tamarindo. Next time I'll try their affogato!

Lizzeth A.

Yelp
I love this place one of my favorites ones. I've come to this place since I was little can't complain about the delicious ice creams and Crepas but the costumer service is really bad and not friendly at all so sad to say this but I came with my family to have some time together because they came all the way from Texas to visit and didn't feel comfortable with the costumer service attitude! So sad that my family will leave with this bad experience!

Ziyan C.

Yelp
Good gelato with surprisingly interesting flavors. East-coasters - this is nowhere near as rich & creamy as the best spots in NYC, but might be as good as we can get in SF! I tried: * Goat cheese figs * Walnut I'd give 3 stars. Flavors not the most authentic, but fine. Texture could be more rich & smooth. I got: * Honey thyme * Chocolate hazelnut "gianduia" I pretty much can never dislike chocolate hazelnut. This was a nice combo, and I surprisingly enjoyed the Honey Thyme. Again, texture could be more smooth, but this did the job for our cold treats craving.
