La Corriente feels like a hidden gem tucked in an unassuming exterior storefront. Step inside, and you're transported to a unique blend of aesthetics—a French café in Paris meets a breezy beach bungalow in Costa Rica. The ambiance is charming and unexpectedly spacious, with far more seating than you'd guess from the outside. It's intimate yet airy, with thoughtful design and a chill but upscale vibe.
Standout Dishes
Artichoke Taco – Brilliantly done and truly one-of-a-kind. The flavors are layered: lemony brightness, a subtle smoky undertone, and an irresistible crispy texture. All of it is tied together with a creamy base that makes each bite complex and satisfying. It’s the kind of dish you order again the moment you finish it.
XL Shrimp – These wood-fired beauties come with the skin on, perfectly cooked, herb-dusted, and incredibly fresh. The char from the fire adds a wonderful rustic finish, letting the natural flavor of the shrimp shine without being overpowered.
Red Snapper Tostada – Ocean freshness in every bite. It's the kind of seafood dish that makes you pause and appreciate how clean and well-handled fish can taste. No need for frills—just great ingredients and solid execution.
Guacamole – Simple, fresh, and well-balanced. A solid start or side to share, especially with their house chips or shrimp.
Service
We were lucky to have Andrea as our server. She was attentive, friendly, and totally on point throughout the evening. Despite a full house, she made us feel well cared for and never rushed.
Room for Improvement
The only hiccup was at the very beginning: there’s no hostess, which led to some initial confusion about seating. As first-time diners, we nearly walked out after waiting awkwardly at the entrance. It felt a little chaotic and unstructured. But—stick with it. Once seated, everything improves quickly and beautifully.
Final Thoughts
While portions are smaller than you might expect for the price point, the quality, creativity, and atmosphere more than make up for it. If you're looking for something unique, coastal, and elevated without being pretentious, La Corriente is absolutely worth a visit. Just be prepared to seat yourself and trust the food will do the talking.
