La Crêperie Chicago Restaurant

I went here with my family while we were visiting the city. It was wonderful, the owner is a very sweet and chatty man and the inside is decorated beautifully with one wall covered in old French posters and a few ceramic plates placed above the bar, a very cozy setting. Both savory and sweet crepes were delicious even after we brought them home. The French onion soup was the best I've ever had, rich flavor and covered in cheese with lots of bread inside creating a great texture! I went to another French restaurant while in Chicago, they were much fancier, however, their soup was much more bland compared to the one I ate at La Creperie. This restaurant is a must for anyone who lives in or is visiting Chicago!

My son and I came on quiet Tuesday night. There were only few tables being occupied, as expected for a midweek dinner. The place is small and cozy inside with a lot of French decor. Their service was great. Very friendly staff and our food came out quick. We ended up sharing a their Croque Madame and their La Classique crepe. The Croque Madame was really delicious. It came with toasted ham, Swiss cheese and topped with a perfectly fried egg and served with fries. The Classique Crepe was just as delicious. I've had plenty of crepes before but these were different. Some parts of the crepe were crispy which was definitely something new. You can never go wrong with Nutella and bananas. Overall we kept it simple and quick and they delivered. I was surprised on how full I got just by sharing and wouldn't hesitate returning here to try out some of their other offerings.

OMG! My husband and I stopped by for a beef crepe, . Keep on mind one been dining at Le Creperie for many years and it's always been good. Now you show up and they completely ignore you! I'm standing at the door waiting to be seated or acknowledged at the very least and nothing! Food is horrible!!! It's gone down hill. The beef crepe was dried out and coagulated because it was so old! I mentioned this to the daughter's owner and apparently angered her cause she took my phone number and never bothered to call. No surprises there folks! So if you're considering eating at this establishment here is my warning to you. Run like your the last two monkeys boarding Noah's Ark and it's starting to rain! Run for your lives! You've been warned folks! Enter this filthy roach infested mess of a place at your own risk! Horrid food and even worse attitudes! They cannot take constructive criticism. No no and no! That's a hard no from me!!!

Love this cute place that feels like you are in Europe!! The crepes are great. We ordered three different crepes and split them. Spinach,chicken and mushroom and beef Bourgogne. All were great and we found it was a great way to taste some one else's. Service as always attentive despite being crazy busy

The food was fantastic. My wife and I had the Chicken and Goat Cheese Crepe absolutely sublime: very creamy and delicious. The onion soup was also bomb: the cheese was perfectly baked on top, the soup was thin , oniony, and herby. We had their house red wine as well: a Grenache - Syrah blend which was absoluteky lovely smooth , slightly sweet. Fantastic ambiance: we sat next to the fire place. 10/10 would come back again :)

It's bastille day - walking in with out a reservation means a wait. After an eternity, my disposition turned sour, until we got seated in the Patio underneath the trellises - then - la vie est parfaite. You know what's wrong with the onion soup? Nothing - exact proportions of stock, onions, bread and Gruyère. The fruits the mer crepe is the French version of comfort food. The sauce makes the dish. Don't get mad, I'm typically not a fan of anything chutney. The chicken curry with mango chutney crepe however is freaking amazing. The curry by itself is fine, until you dab a side of the of that mango chutney then your taken to the next level of deliciousness! For the pièce de résistance - banana Sara. Basically their version of bananas foster. My new favorite sweet crepe along the crème anglaise - both To Die For! Shout out to the staff this evening trying their best to please everyone. Especially to the tall, slender, silver haired, distinguished gentleman who suspiciously looks like the owner. Merci Infiniment!

A friend recommended this place as the best crepe place in the area, and it did not disappoint! We sat outside in the courtyard and it had a nice cozy atmosphere. My favorite was the Poulet aux champignons (chicken & mushroom) crepe. The mushrooms went perfectly with the chicken and the herbs cream sauce was very flavorful but not too overwhelming. Also tried the Boeuf bourguignon but it was a bit salty and like a pot roast stew in a crepe. For dessert, the Nutella banana strawberry crepe with ice cream on top was a great finishing touch. We wanted to share the dessert three ways and the waiter was so nice he put it on separate plates. Service is amazing! Can't wait to come back.

Let's start off with the good- The ambiance is terrific, it felt like a European speak easy. The dessert crepes are all good and the suzette is to die for. I'll come back just for that dessert. The food is just ok. We had a large group and many menu items tried, the best reviews were for the chicken crepes. Cocktails were very forgettable and the wine was ok. The service was uneven and quite slow. I would have gone 3 stars , but the dessert...ou la la

I had the poulet et fromage de chevre , ( chicken, goat cheese, tomatoes crepe). Very tasty & fills you up. But I still had room to try the dessert crepe with Grand Marnier, lemon, & whipped cream topping. I split with my dining friend. The sauce is delicious. Don't leave any on the plate! The patio was nice and secluded out back. The atmosphere is that of a Parisian bistro. The photo of menu is outdated on prices $$ on Yelp. Service was polite .

From what I hear, La Creperie is one of the oldest French restaurants in Chicago and you can definitely see its charm. If you're a fan of local restaurants and crepes, this is the place to go. They have a decent sized outdoor patio in the back and the charm of it was great. We saw several people dining on their own, indulging in some delicious crepes, wine, and a book. Here is what we tried: Savory crepes Fruits de mer - the MVP of the savory side of things we tried. It came with scallops and shrimp in a bèchamel sauce with a side of rice Poulet et fromage de chèvre - don't ask me to pronounce this, but the crepe had chicken, roasted tomatoes, and goat cheese Sweet crepes La Cacahuete - this by far was the MVP. The crepe had peanut butter, chocolate, and bananas. SO GOOD! Banana Sara - Bananas in a brown sugar caramel sauce topped with rum and vanilla ice cream Escargots - first time I tried this! No shell to mess with, the snails came in a garlic butter sauce. Order size was 6, and it was good We rolled in there 10 deep and the service was great. Overall, definitely had a really good dining experience, and I would recommend. BATHROOM REVIEW: Located near the middle-back of the restaurant, they had two single-person bathrooms. Inside, it was rather old, but I suppose adds to the charm. Sink drained somewhat slowly, but overall, everything was in working condition. Probably not the cleanest bathroom I've been in. Sit or squat? Squat.

Hard to find many things I didn't like about this place. 30+ years of history, a fire roaring in the main dining room, French music playing throughout, and an anything-but-commercial feel gives this place undeniable charisma. The French onion soup was certainly worth the wait - it takes about 15 minutes given it is cooked fresh in the bowl. It is hearty enough to be a main meal if you so choose. The banana Nutella desert crepe's familiar flavors were a good complement to the hot soup on a cold day. The menu is concise yet diverse - you are covered from brunch to dinner to coffee to cocktails. This is a place you could keep coming back to.

Classic and absolutely fantastic! Same menu and ownership. Food is fresh and so delicious! Seafood crepe and chicken crepes are insane!

We can for dessert crepes and we loved them! The vibes are rustic and cute and feel like I'm at a hole in the way shop in France. Don't go looking for new furniture here- it's not the vibe. But we will be returning to try some savory crepes soon!!! We shared two: - the banana Sara- in my opinion this was perfection- reminded me of a banana crispy wonton dessert i had when I was a kid! I loved the filling and ice cream. My husband didn't like that the ice cream made it soggy- if that would matter to you then ask to get it on the side. -Nutella crepe: it mouth watering good (how could it not)- but slightly over cooked. The other crepe was cooked perfectly so we thought it was mistake and a one time thing- still worth every bite

The oldest French creperie in the U.S. This was on our "must visit list" when we returned for a few days from our home in NC. It did not disappoint! The food is second to none, the service was excellent and the ambiance of a true French bistro is finely curated.

One word: Delicious The service was courteous and fast, and the variety of crepes was amazing. I had the chicken in curry crepe (Poulet Au Curry). Highly recommend that one.

Not the same. Chicken, tomato and goat cheese crepe lacked the savory and flavor from before the pandemic.

The food was so delicious. My daughter liked her strawberry crepes so much she licked her plate!

I really love this restaurant. It's super tiny and local with a comfortable home cooking vibe. I've been back multiple times and it's been good every time. I only gave it four stars because they occasionally mess up a crepe or two. Overall it's fantastic.

Charming French restaurant serving mainly crepes. We felt as though we were back on vacation in France. Lovely ambiance and servers. We brought two young children with us and they were very accommodating. Food was good, not the best meal I've ever had, but tasty. I ordered the chicken crepe with tomatoes and goat cheese. My family also ordered the beef bourguignon, the chicken crepe with mushrooms and a dessert crepe. No complaints on any of them. Very happy we decided to try this lovely restaurant!

Had a great time here. First time ever having crepes and the food was awesome. The service was also awesome, very attentive and helpful. Highly recommend!

This place has so many great crepes, great ambiance, and great service. The savory crepes with beef, chicken curry, or spinach are all amazing. The dessert crepes with lemon, orange , or chocolate are to die for. They have great wine, and it feels like you are on a side street in Paris where the French are actually nice. In the summer they have a a garden, and in the winter, a fire place.

La Creperie has a beautiful patio area but the crepes are only okay. Food- I have tried 3 crepes there. My favorite was the Chicken Curry Crepe followed by the Chicken and Tomato Crepe. My least favorite was the plain banana crepe. It really does need the chocolate or caramel- so I'd advice getting those. My dining companion ordered it plain. I feel there's not a ton of variety to the savory menu side. Service- our service was pretty good. Attentive, friendly and personable. I would go again but I would not rush back.

A very cute, serene place to have nice breakfast in the morning. I loved the backyard and on a nice day, it sort brought me back to the days in EU. The food is great, service average (maybe because we were sitting outside, the server did not come quickly or as often. In spite of that, I will definitely visit this place again!

An old neighborhood favorite that was just as wonderful as I remembered. Stopped in when my husband and I were passing through the old hood and enjoyed a delicious late summer meal on their beautiful patio in the back. It was as good as it had been the last time I was there several years ago. Got my old standby, an Orangina and the chicken curry crepe and it was still fantastic. It's packed full of chicken curry with tasty veggies and served with a side of rice and the most delicious mango chutney. My husband got the complète---eggs, ham, and with swiss cheese packed into a buckwheat crepe shell. Topped with the most amazing smoky bacon and tasty sautéed potatoes. Service was a little slow but we were in no hurry. Just enjoying a sunny morning on the patio, reminiscing about days gone by.

When we came, dining room was cozy. The lighting was suuper dark and there were a few large groups there. We felt a bit rushed while we were eating by the server. We got 4 crepes, 2 savory, 2 sweet. Savory: Boeuf bourguignon- tasted much like a sherperds pie..but in a crepe a and Poulet au Curry Sweet: Banana Sara- oooh this is a go-to, I would get this one again! You can't go wrong with banana and sugar crepes with ice cream and Caramel and Salted Butter.

I always come here when I am depressed and it picks me right the hell up. Makes me feel like I a took a mini vacay to Paris to some divey little brasserie off the side of some dark end street. I never feel rushed here, the servers don't hound you to death, and the wine list never disappoints. I have been coming here since the latter part of the 1970's, at least, and not much has changed. Still good crepes made the same way, buttery and tasty. Salads still have that crispy crunch and the house dressing still sweet and salty. This place always reminds me of the good things about this city that are left. Not much, I'll grant you that, can stand up to the test of time like this place. Maybe The Duke of Perth a few doors down. I always manage to come on the night when the Edith Piaf is blasting overhead. Then I thank God I am alive.

Not gonna lie: I am definitely not a French food fan at all, but I've loved this place for many years and am finally getting around to a review. The ambience is extra charming and cozy, and the servers are wonderful -- polite and helpful, always making thoughtful suggestions. The menu consists of straightforward, authentic offerings of classic French dishes such as French Onion soup, a robust range of crepes (main meal as well as decadent dessert), traditional French sandwiches, salads, and excellent appetizers (fine cheese/meat trays). The wine list is better-than-decent. I usually get the Salade Nicoise, which is very hearty and satisfying, and pairs nicely with their bread and butter. There is something especially inviting about this restaurant with its rustic fare and equally inviting interior. Have never been disappointed with the overall experience and always leave feeling refreshed and satisfied.

Stopped in for a quick dinner after a movie across the street. Hadn't been in over a decade. Pretty disappointing...you can easily get better crepes within a few blocks and the service was all most non existent. Perhaps they are still recovering from the covid lockdowns in terms of finding staff etc, but it would be a shame to see this neighborhood institution fail

This place is a !! I've never had anything like it before. My boyfriend and I were on the hunt for something new and came across this on Yelp. We stayed off with the snail appetizer. The Danika were full of flavor and cooked perfectly. We loved the French bread so that we could scoop up the oil left over from the snails. Our main course included Epinards crème ~ Sautéed spinach in a butter cream sauce and Poulet au curry ~ Chicken in a curry cream sauce with mango chutney. Both were phenomenal! I love the crispy outside and they were heavily filled. I would come here time and time again for brunch. Btw, they have a great patio! The lack of a 5th star is because the building is hot. They have a small air conditioner but it is not strong enough for the eating area.

Wow the memories! It's been over 20 years since I've been here and it looks like it was frozen in time. Crepes were still delicious and satisfying. We had the beef bourginon and the chicken with mushrooms Crepes. Sooooo good! Also ordered an appetizer of escargot which were garlicky, buttery, and scrumptious. Because we were hungry pigs we also ordered a side of frites which were crisp and golden stalks of deliciousness!! I'm not waiting another 20 to come back here! Go!

Excellent crepes, sweet or savory, with a friendly waitstaff and a comfortable French country atmosphere. Great French onion soup. Limited but acceptable wine list. I've been going to La Creperie for fifty years! (no kidding) That says it all.

Wonderful date night spot! The ambiance is very chill with French music, candles, fireplace, and art/posters. The staff is absolutely excellent; they go above and beyond to make your experience great. My partner and I have been a few times and they are very queer friendly so we always feel comfortable and welcome. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The salted caramel crepe is the best item on the menu and is something I often find myself dreaming about. Highly recommend!

We dropped in on La Creperie on mothers day without a reservation and were treated amazingly by the hard working staff! What a cute place! We were seated in the front dining room. There is another dining space towards that back of the building and a cute outdoor patio. My husband had a spinach crepe that they added goat cheese to for him. The flavor was outstanding. My daughter had a desert crepe and I had the best french onion soup that I've tasted in a long time. This was a charming little place that I look forward to exploring again.

Couldn't stand this place. From the unimaginably superlative reviews on Yelp, the prices they charge, and brief offerings on their post-Delta pre-Omicron pandemic menu, I expected a lot more--a brasserie like the tiny places I remember from Paris. I expected quaintness, little light sconces to create dapples of light on the walls, and maybe even sprigs of flowers in water on the tables. French stoneware and...cleanliness. Instead I felt like I was in a shadowy student-run ex-dive bar dressed up with a few old travel posters. Heck, I wouldv'e even given them an extra point had they had a kitschy Edith Piaf-style recording playing softly in the background just to liven a gloomy Sunday up a bit. The service was horrible--from the server with an attitude (no smile, not even a sense they cared our group of three was there), to the listless and 45-minute delayed delivery of our soups, to the spartan portions delivered, I regretted agreeing to come here. I would even maybe give them another chance, but not at these prices nor experience. La Creperie isn't worth it. The Soupe a l'oignon gratinée was excellent, but because of the prices, others in our group ordered the simplest crepe or salad on the menu. Our server, who doubled as host and gave us flack when we arrived without a reservation (no one else there minutes after they opened on a Sunday in winter), never came by to refill our waters, never said thank you--just dropped the bill and retreated to the back like they had done 80% of the time we were captive.

I've been here a hand full of times and haven't reviewed yet. The most recent visit was with a friend and we stopped by on a weekday for dinner. We were quite hungry so we started with the cheese assortment - 3 cheeses (ranging from soft to hard), served with apple slices and pâté assortment - salmon, duck, and pork, served with cornichons, mustard, and a basket of bread. My favorite pâté is between the salmon and pork. We also split two savory crepes - Boeuf Bourguignon - beef braised with burgundy, mushrooms, carrots, and celery. This crepe is delicious and has a rich beef flavor!! Super tender beef. The 2nd crepe was Poulet au Curry - chicken in a curry cream sauce with mango chutney on the side. Equally delicious and the curry sauce is superb when mixed with the mango chutney. The crepes are fairly large and one by itself can become a meal. Service is friendly and quick. Bonus they also have a patio space which is nice in the summer. Savory or sweet I'm sure you'll find something you like on their menu.

I was in Philadelphia in October and had the best crepes EVER at Profi's Creperie in Terminal Reading Market. I've been having the taste for crepes ever since. Found this place and it had good reviews. I picked up two different crepes to go. I was so very disappointed. They were the worst crepes I have EVER had. What hurt more is that I paid $28. Terrible terrible crepes, cute decor, very nice host. I don't recommend this place and I will continue to search for some good crepes in Chicago.

My girlfriend from France and i went to lunch here and I completely loved it. The fact that they had savory and sweet crepes was awesome and the crepes were huge. My girlfriend also introduced me to escargot for the first time and they were actually pretty good :) The service was wonderful and the back patio was adorable.

Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. The interior is incredibly cozy and looks like you've stepped back into the 1970's (that's meant as a high compliment). The outdoor seating in the back is cozy and delightful. A perfect oasis in the middle of the city. For me this is an A+ brunch spot with fantastic sweet and savory crepes. Coffee is fantastic as is the bar if you want a more boozy breakfast.

Stopped in mid afternoon on a Saturday for a bite on mothers day. It was before the dinner crowd so we got lucky. Three areas to sit, front room, back room, and outdoor patio. The menu had enough variety on it so that it was not just all crepes. My wife ordered the french onion soup which is definitely a menu go to, they make a good french onion soup. My daughter ordered strawberries and cream crepe and it was yummy. I had the spinach and butter cream crepe and had them add goat cheese to it, it was good as well. They have all kinds of crepes to choose from, dessert, curry indian, etc. I also indulged in an aged cognac that was lovely. The service was very friendly and pleasant and the room was for the most part full. Tip - They are located across the street from the movie theater and they have an after movie dessert crepe special. I can see this being a very cozy hang during the winter, I wish there was one of these in my neighborhood

Came here for dinner tonight! Such a cute place. My boyfriend and I walk past this place all the time and decided it was time to try it! We walked in and couldn't believe how large the place was. It kept going back and back! I read past reviews saying the patio was pretty so we decided to sit out back. The chairs were kinda cheap and old but the seating area itself was cute! We each ordered a glass of wine. I got the house white and my boyfriend got the house red. We shared a bowl of French onion soup and it was DELICIOUS! It was cheesy and an overall ball of goodness! I ordered the crepe with chicken & mushrooms which was creamy and delicious. It didn't feel overly heavy either. My boyfriend got the chicken, goat cheese, & sundried tomato crepe which he liked! Unfortunately we didn't make it to dessert because we were both full, but I will DEFINITELY be back to try one of their awesome sounding dessert crepes!

The cutest restaurant! I absolutely love the vibes, best affordable date spot I've found in the city so far. Some of their crepes are quite expensive, but the ham and swiss is like $12 and very good. I did not like the poulet aux champignons, but my boyfriend did and he's the one who ordered it so that's all that matters. Their dessert crepes are pretty good too, as is the French onion soup. Good service. I'd say the food is quite good, maybe a little inconsistent, but this is definitely a spot for the vibes.

I've been to La Creperie a couple of times and I wasn't disappointed either of those times. The menu is vast with a good balance between sweet and savory. They also have plenty of vegetarian and non vegetarian options which is always good. The service was pretty decent and we never had a "oh where on earth is the waiter" feeling. I ordered the crepes florntine. The eggs were cooked excellently and the entire dish was creamy and rich with the spinach and cheese. The spinach was salted well which overall balanced out the dish well. The crepes weren't falling apart thin, but that was honestly a good thing as it helped hold up the main part of the dish. The people around me very pretty thrilled with their food as well. Overall, I liked the cute vibe the Cafe had.

Consistently wonderful for 30 years. We've moved away from Chicago but this is still a must when we're back. Love, love, love. Charming and excellent food & service. Great cocktails. Nothing more needed.

i have been eating here 45 years. it is authentic and delicious. very Well priced. Reargarden is romantic a la Greenwich Village.wines and beers are well chosen. This is a neighborhood treasure.
