Best Detroit Restaurant Tamales | Eater Detroit

"For the Salvadoran diaspora community in Detroit, La Cuscatleca is a mainstay for groceries, sweet and satisfyingly warm cups of atol de elote, and a brief menu of Central American specialties, including its banana leaf-wrapped, soft tamales prepared with shredded chicken or pork. Throw in a couple of savory pupusas made with rice flour and choice of fillings, and you’ve got yourself a filling and satisfying source of comfort food." - Serena Maria Daniels

I had a pretty nice night tonight at La Cuscatleca Restaurant. I really liked the music which set the vibe and made me proud to be Latino. The people of El Salvador have my love and respect always for this amazing meal. The seafood was absolutely delicious and tasted super fresh. The soup was seasoned just right I drank it to the very bottom. The Salsa Picante was very spicy which helped me ignore the cold outside a little bit hahahaha. I’m super satisfied with my experience here and this is somewhere I would be happy to bring friends or family.

Comparing these pupusas to its two business competitors in the area, this one comes in last place. The pupas are much greasier than they need to be. They're cheap on the old curtido they'll put in your to go order.

Food taste great. Service at the time of my visit was slow eventhough there werent other customers waited to placed an order, and even to get the check or pay.

A hole in the wall in the back of a small bodega with some of the most incredible pupusas I’ve ever tasted. Huge, fresh, flavorful discs stuffed with all manner of fillings and gooey cheese. Made to order and won’t break your bank, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area, but take it to go, as the seating area is kind of tight.

Stopped by a couple of years ago, everything was fine. Now I can't place an order because no one speaks English. Not cool.

Small place , restaurant is in back past the groceries. There is a place to dine in. I was greeted promptly. I had Papuas. Loroco, cheese and chicken. I watched as they were made fresh. The tomato sauce and slaw that came with then we're flavorful . I'm definitely going back and soon.

Not great flavor compared to others near by but always answer and take your order.

It is a very well located store, a very busy store, but the things they sell there are expired. I don't understand how they can continue to do so. Good advice, if you are going to buy products from your country, check the expiration date, it seems to me an abuse to sell expired products
