Best Detroit Restaurant Tamales | Eater Detroit

"For the Salvadoran diaspora community in Detroit, La Cuscatleca is a mainstay for groceries, sweet and satisfyingly warm cups of atol de elote, and a brief menu of Central American specialties, including its banana leaf-wrapped, soft tamales prepared with shredded chicken or pork. Throw in a couple of savory pupusas made with rice flour and choice of fillings, and you’ve got yourself a filling and satisfying source of comfort food." - Serena Maria Daniels

Best restaurants for Latin Food in Metro Detroit | Eater Detroit

"This Salvadoran market and eatery serves as a gathering place for the city’s Central American diaspora, complete with grocery staples like Salvadoran and Honduran-style cheeses and cream, Latin American sodas, sweets, baked goods like milhojas salvadoreñas, and banana leaf-wrapped tamales stuffed with chicken made fresh. Pupusas, yuca frita, chicharrones, and steamy cups of atol de elote round out the menu. Grab your food to go or take a seat in the limited dining area." - Serena Maria Daniels

Food taste great. Service at the time of my visit was slow eventhough there werent other customers waited to placed an order, and even to get the check or pay.

Comparing these pupusas to its two business competitors in the area, this one comes in last place. The pupas are much greasier than they need to be. They're cheap on the old curtido they'll put in your to go order.

Stopped by a couple of years ago, everything was fine. Now I can't place an order because no one speaks English. Not cool.

It would be nice is SOMEONE in here spoke english.

Not great flavor compared to others near by but always answer and take your order.

A hole in the wall in the back of a small bodega with some of the most incredible pupusas I’ve ever tasted. Huge, fresh, flavorful discs stuffed with all manner of fillings and gooey cheese. Made to order and won’t break your bank, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area, but take it to go, as the seating area is kind of tight.
