Posh Italian tasting menus & classic trattoria-style dishes
"La Devozione is the best pasta in America and better than some places in Italy. They make carbonara, they make amatriciana, they make spaghetti al pomodoro. They are all from Italy and it's the only place outside of Italy that I've had real carbonara. They're so wonderful to me. A couple weeks after I played Radio City, I had an allergic reaction. I was falling apart. I had to go the emergency room. I couldn't breathe. I was there for hours and hours. A gay doctor luckily recognized me and was very sweet to me. But the ER was right next to La Devozione. So I was so devastated. I was like, I want f***ing pasta! Once I'm feeling better, I walk in, it was just the chef, Alessio. And I sat down next to him, we chatted for half hour, they made me carbonara and he didn't let me pay for it. They're truly the best." - brennan carley
"This international outpost from Italy's 110-year-old, family-run Pastificio Di Martino, is a multi-concept space nestled within the Chelsea Market. The restaurant houses a pasta shop along with two dining spaces, including The Oval. It is aptly named, as the 30-seat counter awaits diners who will twirl their forks through a pasta tasting menu. It's all shapes, styles, and sizes, and it's far from dainty, with plate after plate of pasta. The manicotti is filled with sole and served with a bracing butter and caper sauce. Enjoy the penne served with rabbit confit and artichokes, and finish with a refreshing Mojito-inspired dessert with granita and grapefruit foam." - Michelin Inspector
"If the thought of sitting through another predictable mid-range sushi omakase makes you feel bored, a visit to The Oval at La Devozione might be in order. This Chelsea Market pasta bar serves a pasta tasting menu that’s prepared inches away from where you sit. The experience—which costs between $125-$195, depending on which tasting menu you choose—is just as much entertainment as it is an exercise in consuming carbohydrates. If you don’t want to go all-in on a tasting, you can order à la carte in the more casual “A Tavola” section, or grab an order of spaghetti to go." - bryan kim, neha talreja, hannah albertine, sonal shah
"This Jewish barbecue spot in Dekalb Market treats turkey like their headliner smoked meat instead of the shy background dancer in the far right corner of the stage. For Rosh Hashanah this year, they’re offering family-style meals that will feed between four to six people. This is convenient since that’s exactly the personnel range your sister allows in her house, even before the pandemic. Each set meal comes with your choice of turkey or brisket, as well as salad, braised kale, mashed sweet potatoes, gravy, honey butter cornbread, and cinnamon babka bread pudding. They also have a vegetarian option with kimchi and kasha stuffed cabbage. You can order ahead of time online here. Pick-up times run from Monday, September 6th through Wednesday, September 8th. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation
"If the thought of sitting through another predictable mid-range sushi omakase makes you feel bored, a visit to The Oval at La Devozione might be in order. This Chelsea Market pasta bar serves a pasta tasting menu that’s prepared inches away from where you sit. Your options are a seven-course dinner tasting and a four-course lunch. All of the pasta is cooked perfectly, from the deceptively simple spaghetti to a vermicelli prepared cacio e pepe-style. This makes sense, given that the owners also run Pastifico di Martino, which has been making pasta since 1912." - Neha Talreja, Kenny Yang, Carina Finn Koeppicus, Carlo Mantuano
