I genuinely have no clue how this place is rated so highly 😂 The ambiance is cute but that’s where things end. The wings are absolute trash & heads up, paired with sour cream. No they do not have bleu cheese. No they do not have ranch. Supposedly they don’t have any salad dressing but someone let me know if they see salad on the menu? Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of sour cream so no complaints from me there. But the celery & carrots were the best part of the spicy wings dish. (You can see on the tissue that I didn’t finish the ONE wing I had in the photo) The guacamole is a rip off, over salty & could use more cilantro. Maybe I just had an off bartender but having worked behind the bar some time, the service wasn’t that great. It took me repeating myself 3x for a simple cup of ice & he only brought over the one glass instead of the two. All in all, please go elsewhere. But this place is something you should experience yourself.

This place was kind of disappointing. It was cute, but the food wasn’t great. The steak was so chewy, dry and over cooked. The tacos needed some seasonings. I ended up asking for the sauce from the fish tacos to eat with my steak quesadilla . It was also very over priced. I spent $15 on the smallest quesadilla ever. The fish tacos my friend ordered were better. Overall I wasn’t impressed.

this hibiscus drink was soooo good. My guest had a classic margarita that he also enjoyed. The music, staff & ambiance was a vibeeeeeee Update: had to come back to give them that 5th star! I returned a month later and was serviced by Harry who was so attentive, pleasurable, and accommodating. The food was amazingggg & a lot of their food options are homemade… you should go. Lol

I live in the hood and I wanted to try this place. It is way better than beyond my expectations. We ordered a steak fajitas and shrimp tacos and some margaritas. They served it really fast and both were super delicious and filling. Strongly recommend it.

Update in 2024: Please hire the good bartenders and chefs back. If you’re going to charge prices for food, make it worth it. I love the ambience (music, decor, layout, vibe) but that’s about it right now. To be clear, I do not want skimpy, basic tacos or entrees. I do not want unseasoned sides. 🫤 I’ll try again in a few months. —— 2023: La Diagonal is fierce with amazing drinks and food 🌮🌮🌮. If you ever need help, ask for Hector! He does an amazing job as a seasoned mixologist. I’m never disappointed when he is pouring. Everyone that I meet here always says that Hector is their favorite person here. We had such a lovely evening at La Diagonal. The ambiance and music was just right, but what really stood out was Vincent's incredible care of us, making sure everything was perfect, especially our coffee, which we both absolutely loved. Vincent's warm and attentive nature made the night even more special!

The kitchen is open til late. On e of the best Margaritas I have ever had. It’s a great hip restaurant in Harlem.

The food was great. My hat off for the chef service was great. The servers were very pleasant and patient overall, the place is great. Will be going there again.

Before the pandemic, this was a genuinely good neighborhood Mexican restaurant. I'm wondering if the restaurant sold since, because none of the familiar faces are there anymore. On my most recent visit, on the menu, they say they use Hornitos tequila in their homemade margaritas. When the bartender was making my margarita, I noticed it was a bottle with no label on it. Not a good sign. It tasted Ok, but I don't think I was drinking Hornitos. When I was asked if I wanted anything on the menu, I said I'd like to order the guacamole and chips. I was incredulous when they said they didn't have it this particular evening. I was starting to become uneasy, because I noticed several patrons getting up from their tables to either flag down their waiter or go directly to the bar to order another drink. It also seemed the person in charge was also the chef and running the kitchen, while running the front of the house too. I was hungry so I decided to try their pulpo (octopus) appetizer. After waiting 40 minutes it finally came out. It was a very generous portion, definitely an appetizer for two, but was completely bland and seemed no attention had been given to seasoning. It was quite tender though. I'll leave some other particulars out. This restaurant itself is very inviting and has a very comfortable interior. I hope they can recreate what they had before the pandemic and match the interior with their food and service.

The food was decent. The ambiance was really nice. The service however was horrible. There was only a handful of people in the restaurant. The servers had no idea what was offered on the menu. My friend asked for a pitcher of mimosas that was listed on the menu and they told us they didn't offer that. We ordered drinks and the bartender was too busy on his phone to make them. There were only four guys running the restaurant who could care less to cater to their customers. Was hoping to find a regular brunch spot to go to in Harlem. Unfortunately, my friends and I will never go back here.

first time visiting harlem, ny and this little gem caught my eye. it's cute on the outside but the ambiance and decor when you go inside is stunning. there are two outside seating areas as well. loved sitting in the patio facing the street; as a visitor to the city i love to see everything that's happening. the service was okay, just needs a little more patience. the menu options are very limited, definitely wasn't expecting that part. happy hour isn't really much of a happy hour; $12 for two small corn tortilla tacos and no sides included --ehhh. also if you so want sides they are $7 each. drinks on hh are normal pricing for drinks. the pricing on the regular menu was up there. personal opinion this place is too expensive for the amount and quality of the food. didn't really see much that caught my eye so i got the chicken tacos and yucca fries. chicken tacos were just okay and the fries were overcooked (they were so hard) and extremely salty. the red sangria was tasty. the rest of my party tried the quesadilla, shrimp enchiladas, and more tacos. tried a little of the enchiladas it was okay but not something i would get an order of. the experience was cool but definitely don't think i would be visiting next time i'm in town.

La Diagonal is a quaint Mexican restaurant in Harlem. The service here is great. Our servers were super friendly and gave some great suggestions. I ordered a hibiscus margarita which was delicious! Followed this up with shrimp tacos and churros which were also really great. Points off because the menu was quite small imo and I felt I didn't have many options to choose from for entrees and apps. They prices are also on the higher end, so probably not a place I'd frequent often.

Atmosphere: 5/5 Ceviche: 4.3/5 Tacos:3/5 So So beautiful. As soon as you walk in, you feel welcomed and feel warm. It almost feels like you're in Mexico City/ Polanco. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. The fish ceviche was pretty on point. I would have loved some additional cucumber or maybe maíz for added texture. It was seasoned just right. I was hoping for more and something else but couldn't put my finger on it. It brought me back to ceviche I had in Peru but also mourning that dish too. The meat (steak) on the tacos was cooked perfectly which just enough rareness. The tortilla could have been a little more fresh for my tasting. There wasn't a salsa provided but we didn't ask so maybe they do have them. I know they do not have chips and salsas. The tacos could have had a little more umph. (Sorry no pic)

This place used to be a lot better. I'm not sure what happened but maybe some oversite as far as food quality. Too much salt for one at least in the shrimp tacos. Salad had very little avocado for the price. But the Yucca fries were actually great! Staff was ehh... Anyway, I hope they step it up bc it's a nice looking place but prices absolutely don't match the quality anymore.

I absolutely love La Diagonal. The food is delicious. The service is great. The servers are always checking and making sure you have what you order and need. If you come alone and want to talk they also manage to have a good conversation with you. The ambience is great. The aesthetics of the restaurant is very nice.

I mainly love the red lights. The ambiance is fire. The food is good, the drinks are likewise. It's always a good time. I go again and again because I love it there.

My son took me here for brunch, and how happy I was he did. We had the carnitas hash, the Chorizo guacamole, and Mexican toast. Everything was delicious. The Chorizo was fried crispy and topped of some of the best guacamole I've had. The carinitas in the hash had a touch of spice, potatoes had crispy edges, and I usually don't eat sunny side up, but they cooked mine where it wasn't too runny. I checked out their happy hour menu, and yes, I will definitely be coming back here.

Tacos are a little expensive but was indeed delicious. The guac was fresh but maybe needed a little lime. The chips were excellent, long and great for scooping the guac. Had a Dos Equis to wash it down. It's a beautiful venue and service was prompt.

My friend brought me here for my birthday brunch! I was excited to come as I've walked by here multiple times. We started with passion fruit and hibiscus margaritas on the rocks...if you don't like sweet but some tart flavors then these are your drinks! We shared the mixto ceviche appetizer that includes fish, shrimp, and octopus...the octopus was my favorite part as I was expecting it to be rubbery but it was cooked just right, not chewy, and very flavorful. I ordered the burger which was seasoned pretty well and very big; I was only able to eat half. They don't provide enough fries to share so you are pre-warned to your fries stealing friends. She ordered the carnitas hash off of the brunch menu, substitute fried egg with scrambled eggs and she loved it! It's definitely big enough to share. Oh, if you are a watermelon fan def get the watermelon margarita on the rocks...I don't know why this flavor is not printed on the menu but ask for it!

Went to this hidden gem on a rainy Sunday night. The decor inside the restaurant was beautiful. Definitely feels upscale. I asked the waiter for some cocktails recommendations and honestly forgot what they were called but they were definitely strong and good! We ordered the chicken tacos and shrimp quesadillas with sweet plantains (to share) Finally, we enjoyed some churros. Loved the food! Definitely recommend!

Omg it was my first night there in a long time and I was helped by Milos on his first day and it was AMAZING. Excellent service, great drinks and attention to detail. Not once did I have to ask for help or a menu. I would definitely come back and ask for him. This is what great service looks like boo!

Small portions and above average prices! No happy hour on Friday as stated above on this page! I met up with some friends on a Friday night and we sat at a "heated" outdoor table. I liked how we had our own private little room but the quality of the heat lamp was poor so make sure you bundle up! We ordered a few different spicy margaritas $15, which ended up not being spicy at all. We were also charged an extra $2 for asking for it spicy which was odd to me. Presentation of the drinks was great; they looked classy and like the bartender took his/her time. Service was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. For food, we had the octopus, shrimp quesadilla, queso dip and enchiladas. I thought the quality of the food was great but the portions were small and prices were above average! It might be worth it to try and come during happy hour Monday-Thursday. Not sure if I'll be back only because I didn't feel the prices were worth it.

I came here for a night cap with a group of 8. Even though it was right before closing, they accommodated us without issue. We sat at a long communal table in the center of the restaurant. I loved their decor. Aged wood, candles, and cacti everywhere. I ordered a spicy mezcal margarita. The mezcal was not super smoky. Although they added jalepenos, it was not very spicy. The salted rim had a bit of a kick but the salt was a little too stuck to the glass so it was hard to break off and enjoy. Still, it was a tasty drink. I'd love to come back to check out their food menu.

This is one of my favorite neighborhood spots! The drinks are solid (I had a lot of margaritas to go in 2020 LOL), staff is friendly, and I've enjoyed every meal I've had here.

A friend and i had reservations for 1pm on Sunday for brunch. We were immediately seated and our waiter was great. When we first sat down it wasn't busy so our waiter was able to recommend drinks and brunch meals. As it got busier our waiter -he was the only waiter (and it got busy fast around 2pm -typical NYC brunch rush) we waited around for our drink orders way you long.. Most of the tables in our section were getting pretty frustrated with the lack of service. A few guests seated near us got up to order their drinks at the bar. It wasn't our waiters fault.! He was busy and he was trying his best to accommodate all the tables. Which wasn't fair to him. For a NYC brunch he should of not been the only waiter on the floor!!!! Aside for the service our food and drink were delish. I had the chorizo hash and yuca fries-it was delicious and very filling. My friend had the shrimp tacos. She enjoyed her tacos. For cocktails I had the prosseco lychee mimosa which was delish and refreshing. We also had the mezcal margarita. Spicy, strong w a kick. Solid. For dessert we had the churros w dark chocolate dipping sauce. Churro were perfectly crispy and the inside w a cream filing. And w the chocolate dipping sauce. A party in your mouth. I really liked the food and vibe of this place. My only complaint was the service-our waiter did the best he could. But on Sunday for brunch , he should have had more help. I hope to come back for dinner soon. Bc honestly the food was solid good. I just didn't like the way they had 1 waiter busting his ass to attend all the tables during brunch.

La diagonal has great food, service, and drinks. The music depends on the bartender you have but they are very open to suggestions which I loved. The ambiance is very unique and tasteful, with beautiful decor. I came here a few times already and definitely consider this place an uptown gem.

People, You need better servers as this restaurant is probably only open because of the bad choices in Harlem restaurant scene. Where are the women who work at this place? Pre-Pandemic, the service was better and the staff was more diverse in gender but now...I sat there and watched a customer WAIT for over 40 minutes for a To Go that was sitting in the food window. No ONE moved to help her; she located the food herself. I know they lost this customer forever. Change your menu. Get better cooks, preferably someone who understands Mexican cuisine. And hire a more diverse staff. The choices are few and UNinspired. DO BETTER

I came to this restaurant with my girls and I was highly disappointed with the food. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant where the fajitas was not served on a grilled plate. This place served it on a regular plate. It was also full of liquid from the vegetables which made the tortillas soggy. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant where they served white rice with beans instead of yellow rice. My girls had a cheese tortilla that came with pico de gallo which they both said was good but one of my daughters said the cheese was hard to chew. Other than that the yucca fries were good and the lemonade was freshly made. Also the server was nice. This place may be better suited for someone who doesn't know authentic Mexican food and maybe a cool after work drinking spot although i did not have an alcoholic beverage but the ambiance was nice. I would not recommend this spot for anyone who wants real Mexican food.

I called La Diagonal to make a reservation a week ago; the man who answered took all my info. Well, imagine my surprise when I showed up today and not only did they not have my reservation, but the rude host said they didn't take them!!! I'm sorry, I must've just DREAMED that whole interaction last week! Welcome to my shit list, La Diagonal.

We had so much fun at this place. Came for happy hour drinks and dinner with my friends a few weeks ago. Service was great, they were super attentive and provided a few rounds of free shots (it was Cinco de Mayo). The guacamole and tacos were also good, they have a great variety of salsas. Would def recommend this place! It's also huge and they have indoor seating, outdoor seating, indoor outdoor seating.... haha! Perfect for rain or shine.

Bartender Hector made great drinks, great mezcal options, including a jalapeño one Visited on a Saturday night mid September and it wasn't packed. It has a outdoor seating area. I ordered the guacamole with crab meat. It was regular. Would not order again. Maybe I'd give the tacos a try next time I visit for drinks.

Great good. The service was amazing. A little pricey for the serving size but the food is good none the less. The drinks as well. I'd go there just for that. A great location. I love neighborhood spots. Definitely try this place if you're in harlem.

Dem churros. That's it, that's all you need to know. Order food, but for the love of god, save room for the churros. If you don't you'll regret it for the rest of your life. Fundido is pretty good

Beautiful restaurant in the heart of Harlem. Took me back to Mexico with the scenery but quickly disappointed not only with the food but the cost of additives to our order. For $24 we could count the pieces of meat we received with three small tortillas. We also had to pay $3 for a side of sour cream. The drinks were okay and mezcal to touch but had ice which watered them down pretty quick. Would recommend swapping the menu and prices for something better for such a beautiful place. Service was attentive but there were language barriers. Thank you, next.

My boyfriend & I celebrated our second anniversary here & I'd def go back. The food was good--portions are small, though, so keep that in mind when ordering--the decor is nice & the service was attentive. Oh, & the churros--which I'm usually not impressed by--made me wanna slap the judge.

The place looks nice, but you pay a lot of money for food that Is pretty small in portion size. The drinks were solid. I'd recommend really only coming here for drinks.

I stopped by La Diagonal for a couple of drinks. I was not blown away by my margarita, but it was not the worst that I had. I will say that the staff was very nice and friendly, especially the bartender. La Diagonal has a very cool, open interior design with some limited outdoor seating. Most of the tables outside can accommodate 1 to 2 people. Perhaps during my next visit, I will try some of the food options.

Went here for a first date and they ended up being a total creep but I still didn't let that detract from the awesome experience at La Diagonal! Had a few drinks to get through the date and they were well worth it. Tasted good and made the disappointing company slightly more tolerable. Highly recommend !

I sat at the bar and asked for a club soda - I saw he had a can of club soda. The bartender opens a giant bottle of club soda peregrino, pours me a glass. Then I say I need to bounce and he charges me ~$10 for the whole bottle. What the heck. It's not even like the bar was busy and I was taking business. I was there for ten minutes.

A good place for cocktails and guac but just not quite worth going out of your way for brunch if you don't live super close. Drinks are by far the best thing here. Service at the bar is good. But for the price, the food doesn't quite deliver. I had the huevos rancheros and BF the enchiladas both were a little on the bland side and not quite worth the price for the portion. Crab guacamole was tasty. Would probably go back for that but for that price point, El Kallejon on E. 117th has a far superior product and atmosphere.

The food is okay, but the drinks are excellent. Really impressive selection of mezcals and well constructed cocktails. Helpful and knowledgeable service as well.

POST COVID REVIEW I LOVE this place. I've come here a few times now and haven't been disappointed. I've tried all of their frozen margaritas and the coconut and mango are my two favorites. Their other drinks are good as well but I'm partial to frozen cocktails so that's what I usually order. Food wise I've had the chips and guacamole (9/10), choriqueso (9/10) and the churros (6/10). The place next door usually plays music so it's a great ambiance too. Will definitely be back.

If you are looking to attend a rave with music blasting your brains out in addition to subpar food this is your place. I cannot believe they allow a DJ to play on the sidewalk on a Sunday night. This place is trash. This is Harlem not a cruise ship. This is NOT a neighborhood spot.

Classic Mexican food and delicious drinks! It's the perfect spot to grab a frozen margarita on a hot day.

I pasted by this place last year and was happy to try it out as my date chose this place. As I sit down a bus boy came over with a plastic cup and water? When everyone else is drinking out from small glass cups. I was disappointed at that from the get go! Then slow service! I ordered 3 cocktails myself and my cheap date ordered one. The manager or owner bought over the check as I'm half way done with my cocktail and no one asked for a check and my drinks are over $15 and I looked like a billionaire and still received horrible service. I'm so disappointed and this place as it looked nice place. But unfortunately they can't handle being a little busy. Never again for me!

Came here through a recommendation for good dinner at a chill venue. Monday evening and plenty of seating available, settling in at a couple stools at the bar. Asked the bartender if there was a happy hour and he said yes, and that he could rattle it off. So we asked and he mentioned the guava margaritas are in happy hour (though never said the price). Got one of those ($?) and had the La Ensalada ($12) for an entree. Margarita is pretty good, not all that strong yet easy to drink. Salad is mostly spinach with avocado, tomato and a tangy vinaigrette. Fairly light that kept me satisfied. Friend got the tacos which are overpriced at 3 for $18 - he was hungry soon after leaving the restaurant. Food came out fast and the bartender was fine. Don't think the value here is worth a return trip.

This was my second time visiting and I was sad to see that they no longer had the steak quesadilla that I loved during my first visit. We were a group of 4 and sat outside in the patio area, we came on a Friday and it was fairly busy around 7:30pm. I had the grilled pineapple margarita and it was delicious! My friend ordered the frozen margarita and it was pretty bad, so bad that I tried it and asked the waiter to please change it for something else. She then got the white Sangria and it was also not great. My friend is not picky like me so if she was rejecting alcohol it was pretty bad. For our main course they ordered the Carne asada and I got the salmon. They ordered the steak medium rare, it arrived clearly overcooked, both very well done. The meat did not look like a great cut, it looked like something you would get at a really low budget place where you know better than to order a steak. Fortunately for me my salmon was cooked perfectly medium with a nice crispy skin and was very tasty! My friend's did not have any luck with their drinks and food and considering that everything was overpriced I'm not sure we will return.

I adore this place! Besides it's interesting shape (diagonal because of 2 Avenues meeting), it's a fun place with good food ad drinks. Their ceviche is top notch, guacamole with crab meat is outstanding, the tacos hit the spot!

Great food and service. The tacos are especially good and my favorite item on the menu besides the queso appetizer served with chips. The portions may look small but they are very filling and delicious. The quality of the food is consistent. I would recommend this restaurant for sure. Seating is kind of limited so if you have a large party be sure to make a reservation in advance.

Came here for my brothers birthday and they did not disappoint. We order Mexican street corn, crab guacamole (f**king delicious) and the enchiladas. The enchiladas were cooked well and the street corn was so good. The drinks were good here as well. Try the passion fruit margarita (yum). If that doesn't interest you they have a very large bar with great options. The serves were good; the serves are knowledgeable of the menu and give great suggestions. The lighting is very dim so keep that in mind if your vision is bad. There is in door seating and outside seating. And overall is a good place to get some Latin food.

During Covid good service is hard to find and he was busy but did a great job! We got two rounds of the white wine sangria it was so good! I mixed whatever was on top in the second time and it was even better. I got the crab guacamole and there was crab in every single bite loved it. I didn't get a picture of the chicken fajita but it was great as well! I also got some dessert the chocolate lava cake it comes with ice cream which I usually don't like but eat it together the flavor is great I can't wait to go back!!

Food is very good. Totally overpriced! $22 for a steak fajita and it doesn't come with salsa, guacamole, rice OR beans. Give me a break!!!!

Awesome happy hour spot. It's a bit tucked away in a quieter neighborhood but still pretty busy. Not too large of a place but they have a bar area with longer tables and stools and tables outside as well. A plus is that they offer happy hour on Fridays as well. Service was good and fast. Tried the sangrias which were not too strong but refreshing. I was really hungry and opted to go for an entree rather than the happy hour small bites. I ordered the Camarones al Chipotle which was shrimp in chipotle tequila sauce with mashed potatoes. Very delicious and good size portion. The shrimp were very large and plenty.

Since moving to the neighborhood last year, this place has become my go-to for date nights with my husband. We always talk about trying a new place but the other local options really just don't hold a candle to La Diagonal. This place has gorgeous decor, EXCELLENT mezcal cocktails (try the Hibiscus con Mezcal and the Mayan Summer), tasty food (the enchiladas suizas, crab guac, queso fundido, fish tacos, carne asada, and the salmon are all great choices), and great service. We love it here!
