LA Times Food Critic Finds a Possible Winner For Best LA BBQ Brisket | Eater LA

"Led by Oaxacan specialist Rocío Camacho, who opened the restaurant in 2017, the kitchen is devoted to intricately composed moles—many based on family heirloom recipes passed down through her maternal line. Fiesta mole samplers and the mole Oaxaqueño are standouts, while the manchamanteles is a darkly ruddy, ‘tablecloth-staining’ mole: sharp with chile heat, lightly smoky, and brooding in spice (best tempered with generous amounts of agua fresca). Nearly everything on the menu impresses, from picaditas and enchiladas—especially crisp corn enchiladas—to the Maria Bonita plate with grilled filet mignon; there are vegan options, but the joy here remains firmly rooted in the moles. The owner-chef periodically appears from the partially obscured kitchen to tend clay pots at the buffet, reinforcing the homey, ritual feel of the place." - Farley Elliott

The Definitive Guide to Oaxacan Cuisine in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"I consider Rocio Camacho an institution: her menu channels treats from Huajuapan de León like chileajo, her mother’s flawless mole negro is superb in texture and ingredient clarity, and dishes from chiles rellenos in tomato soup to chilate and enfrijoladas are made with evident care and veteran technique." - Bill Esparza

Came by around 4 p.m. on a Monday: nice and quiet at first, but a few parties showed up by the time I left. The staff? Super friendly… and okay, my server was adorably cute and really polite. I was low-key mesmerized by her smile. She made the whole experience even better. Food came out crazy fast, like 5–7 minutes tops. I ordered the enmoladas (mole enchiladas stuffed with cheese or chicken). The cute server was super chill and let me mix and match moles, definitely major bonus points. I tried two Mole Oaxaqueño (award-winning, rich, a little heat) and one Mole Manchamanteles (chef’s smoky, spicy signature). Both were excellent. They even gave me free chips so I could sample four different moles. Who does that anymore? Love it. The place is small , maybe six tables inside and a couple outside, but they pack serious flavor into that little space. Parking’s shared with a liquor store (only a few spots), so you might need to park on a nearby street. Still worth it. Honestly, might be my favorite mole spot in the LA area. If it were closer to LB/Carson, I’d probably be here way too often… and not just for the mole 😉.

Google
Wow, Awesome moles!!! Must try if in the area. Was my lunch stop while riding the Rio Hondo River Trail. What a find…

Amazing service, food, location! New favorite restaurant!

Google
Wow! I really didn't know where my best friend was taking me out to eat. We walked in and boy was it tiny as the food came out. It left me speechless and when I tasted it I couldn't get over it. I ended up cleaning my plate. So I suggest you go and try it. You'll love it. Just make sure you wear sweatpants So you definitely have room for dessert. I will be back

Google
Not the best Mother’s Day gift. My husband had been wanting to take me here for a while and we drove all the way from Wildomar to try this place out for Mother’s Day. The food was very disappointing I’m sorry but the mole (mancha manteles) had no taste and wasn’t what I expected for this place to be called this. The service was good the server was polite and attentive but the food was disappointing. Not to mention how hot this place has no ac!! all I wanted to do was get out of there, also having to fight with a flies the whole time we were there was not the Mother’s Day I expected. I think there is room for improvement specially with the pricing there can definitely work on some ventilation or fans to make the visit a bit more comfortable.

Google
A different taste of Mexico. They do have the best moles here and so many to try. Whats not to love. I wish it had a bigger location?

Google
It was me and my wife first time here amazing food and Great service by destiny and Christian thank you again

Google
Diosa is in a humble location in Bell. The menu is varied. The mole is outstanding. I had chilaquiles with house mole... delicious. The plantains were excellent in their yummy sauce. A must try gastro experience.

Yelp
The area is in a very nondescript Shopping Center next to a Flower shop. The waitress was nice but very new and it looks like the owner agree this at the door. The food was above par if you're looking for something between regular food fair and an expensive restaurant this is the place to be. The moles were delicious. I had a cochinitas burrito was very tasty. And the tortillas are made here!!!
google avatar

Boris M.

Yelp
We came on a Saturday morning and ordered their Molotes Oaxaqueños and the Chileajo Plato. Service was attentive and the ambiance was simple but clean. Prices were appropriate and the food was delicious. We will definitely come back to try more of their menu.
google avatar

Yelp
The best mole!!! The chef is amazing the food is art. I ordered the guacamole which was amazing!!! The spicy mole chicken breast was exceptional. This is by far the best mole I have had in a long time. It's a must stop I will be back!!!

Yelp
Great moles here! It used to be Rocio's Restaurant but I guess it changed its name. The old logo is still on the building though so it's a bit confusing. They serve you chips and a sample of the mole sauces. Most of the ones we tried were good but my favorite was the pipian. I had the rib eye mole with that sauce. It was delicious but I felt my meat was overcooked. Either way still a good spot for some moles!
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
What a great little spot. My buddy at work told me about this spot and we stopped in for lunch between appointments. Small and old building pumping out amazing mole dishes. They received a Bib Gourmond award. What is that? Not quite a star, but most definitely not a consolation prize, the Bib Gourmand - named after Bibendum, the friendly Michelin Man and the official company mascot for the Michelin Group - is a just-as-esteemed rating that recognizes friendly establishments that serve good food at moderate prices. I tried their black mole since that was the award winner but they offer quite a few other flavors of mole. I chose chicken as the protein and it was served over white rice and sliced veggies. Absolutely delightful dish. Super fresh and flavorful. My buddy was sweating over his spicy red mole dish but he enjoyed it. Great hole in the wall.
google avatar

Yelp
One of my co- worker mentioned this place and myself being a huge fan of Mole, I had to try this place out. We tried few different things and both different mole we tried in chile and chicken was distinctly different and amazing. Each distinct flavors, aromas, spices, every bite had it taste and you can tell it is made fresh and from scratch everyday. I highly recommend this place. I will be coming back to try it again!

Alejandra J.

Yelp
I wish I could have taken photos of my food. But I'm fat and I was hungry. Everything is so good. I thought I hated mole until I came here. I LOVE their cafe
google avatar

Mariana M.

Yelp
Went here because I was craving mole I had never been there. Mole was great only thing I didn't like ,that the chicken breast been grilled but other than mole flavor is delicious . I loved that they serve you chips with their different moles they serve.
google avatar

Claudia V.

Yelp
We ordered the empanadas appetizer; the zucchini flower one was my favorite but they're all decadently delicious! My friend ordered the zucchini salmon and loved it! We also ordered the enchiladas enmoladas and oh my! The mole was on point and the portions were generous! The agua fresca de pepino was refreshing and fragrant (ideal amount of sweetener, not too much, just enough to make it yummy). The agua fresca de maracuyá is exotically yummy, and colorful! Definitely coming back to try their veggie options and yes ... also their carne asada plate that smelled like heaven and beef short ribs looked perfectly braised! Saw them on the table next to us and still day dreaming about those plates. Can't wait to try both!
google avatar

Jennifer V.

Yelp
Wow the mole here takes you on a flight to Oaxaca! So amazingly rich and delicious! Brings a tear to my eye. Highly recommend the drive to Bell Gardens. Get there early and try all the moles! Huevos con mole was my fav! Plenty of parking in their lot. Service was excellent and cafe de olla was unforgettable too.

Yelp
I don't even know where to begin -- this place is absolutely wonderful! I had the RIB Chillicothe Mantequilla, and it was amazing. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. The customer service is top-notch -- everyone is so helpful and genuinely kind. Such a great experience all around!
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best mole restaurants I've ever been too! I found this gem recommended to me by a principal who works close to this delicious eatery. The service was wonderful because the severs are kind when they take your order and even the cooks come out to greet you. It's a small little restaurant but it's decorated with cool looking wallpaper. I highly recommend the mole poblano, but I've tried quite a few of the other moles, and I loved them all as well!

Sergio V.

Yelp
Ordered poblano mole with a chile relleno (cheese) no rice. I received a chile relleno with rice. He took it back and brought me a new plate with chile relleno with mole rojo. Still not what I ordered, took it back and brought me another chile relleno with the correct mole but not a cheese chile it had meat. Overall mole was way thin and no taste did not get what I ordered and took 45 minutes 3x and still got charged for their mistakes. Family atmosphere but lacked getting an order correct plus lacked flavor.

Yelp
Small little place serving up different flavors of mole.Recognized by the Michelin guide of 2021 I just had to try the place out ! They share parking with two other businesses and their assigned parking only has about 5 - 6 spots .We ended up parking on a street nearby. Our waitress was nice and suggested some recommendations .We started off with the picadas , nice and hot .The Mole oxaqueño was on the sweet side while the mole verde was a tad bit tangy. For our mains I got the mole ensusiamanteles with chicken and comes with a side of rice and veggies. We also tried the enchiladas and those were delicious with the side of beans and rice. I also love how they give you a chip basket as soon as you sit down with a sample of three of their most popular moles. The plantain with tequila sauce sounded intriguing and OH MY GOSH , Please don't skip dessert! This dish had me licking my fingers ! So good and creamy with a thick caramel tequila sauce.

Yelp
Came here for the first time to have dinner. It is a very tiny place but the service was amazing and the food was delicious. Got the enchiladas with mole, they were delicious and the mole I chose had a nice spicy kick to it. Another plate we got was the chicken breast with mole. Both were very good. My daughter got the kid's quesadilla plate. It was very very big! But it was perfect for the price. Usually the price in a kids meal is under $10 and the portions are small. But since this one was $12 I really liked the big quesadilla which we ended up taking home to eat later. The only complaint I have is that in the kids salad there were pieces of fresh jalapeño. My daughter likes salad but couldn't eat it because it was spicy, I tasted it as well and can confirm the spice. The popularity of this place has gained new customers (like us) which makes me think they should upgrade their restroom. They're tiny restroom is for everyone there and it is super funky. I would try to avoid it if possible. Other than that I would definitely return for the food and the service. The guy serving us went above and beyond. Super polite and very understanding of everything and made sure everything was okay more than once. Great job! Loved that!

Yelp
Very recently went to this place - apparently they have transitioned the name from Rocio's to La Diosa de los Moles. I believe it's the same place. Been here about a month ago, so using my same review for the Rocio's - This neighborhood gem is known for their moles. That's how the menu works too. A good portion of the menu is where you choose they type of mole and then choose the protein to eat it with. There are some other items on the menu, but I think the moles have the spotlight. The restaurant itself is not large. It is cozy and comforting though. There is some seating on the inside and the outside. Also, as soon as I walked through the door, I was greeted by a really friendly person and seated right away. It was in the middle of the week and it super busy. Being my first time, I got the popular pick: the mole Oaxaqueno - the black mole and chose to put it on chile relleno. This also comes with some of their fresh fluffy tortillas. I also got a cucumber drink to wash it down (refreshing and delicious). I'm already a big fan of mole, but I have to say this might be some of the best mole I've ever had, if not the best. The flavors, the spices... all cohesive and well blended and prepared. The presentation of the dish itself was beautiful. I really enjoyed my meal here. I definitely would love to come back and try their different moles and protein combinations. Again, since this was the middle of the week, it seems parking was really easy to find in the provided lot or nearby on the street.

Yelp
I highly recommend La Diosa De Los Moles. Fantastic service , beautiful ambiance, delicious food with top quality fresh ingredients. I have basically tried 75% of their menu and I can't wait to continue to try more . You will not be disappointed ! Authentic cafe de olla , aguas frescas and a variety of moles you must try ! Chef Rocio's recipes are one of a kind ! A nominee Michelin star . Go check them out !

Yelp
Had the Rib Eye Mole Oaxaqueno and was super disappointed. I asked for medium cooked steak. I got a very tough and very overcooked thin steak. I was sawing at it so hard. The mole sauce was pretty good, the julianned veggie portion was small, almost silly that it was on the plate. Definitely not worth the $26. BF got the chicken flautas and said it was good, but the guac portion was basically a speck. For $18 it should of been 3 instead of two.
google avatar

Yelp
We decided to try something local and came across this place. This was a tasty spot for breakfast. My son had pancakes, my gf had a chilaquiles with red pipian mole with ribeye and I had the chilaquiles with green salsa and huevos estrellados. There was no taking any leftovers home..well at least for me. The food absolutely hit the spot. The service was on point. Y el día de los muertos decorations made it experience even better. We. I highly recommend this spot. PS- definitely try el café de la olla.
google avatar

Ashly V.

Yelp
The best mole I've ever had! The chips they serve as a complimentary appetizer include 4 different kinds of mole. This helped me us choose what we were going to order. The agua frescas were also good just
google avatar

Priscilla O.

Yelp
Every time I am in LA i like to try a new mole restaurant. This small venue had a Michelin star so I anticipated a delicious meal. A small sampling of the mole sauces was drizzled on the tortilla chips. From these selections I chose the cuitlacoche, described as "Mexican caviar," over chile relleno. The chile, covered with dark velvety mole, came with rice and beans. The meal alas, was nothing special. The cheese stuffing had a chalky texture and the side of beans was close to desiccated. The mole, which should have been the star of the meal, was too salty and lacked the complexity of flavors I was seeking. The service was friendly and prompt.
google avatar

Yadira H.

Yelp
delicious food, and absolutely great service! we have gone back several times since the first time we tried it! It's a small place but feels welcoming and nice to be eating there.
google avatar

G M.

Yelp
This is the Pipian Rojo mole (peanut and chile de arbol) atop of dark meat chicken in lieu of chicken breast. I prefer dark meat because it's juicier and more flavorful. The chicken and mole was delicious, as was the rice and lightly-charred julienned vegetables. No wonder this is a Michelin Guide restaurant!
google avatar

Raul O.

Yelp
DIOS SANTO (non religious expression) the food might not be the best you ever had because the market is so tight nowadays but this is my new MOLE place, service is swift and cordial. The seating is small yet comfortable and inviting. I had the Mancha Manteles, spicy perfection. Pardon the half gone plate pictures, could not wait to dive in. And no, I'm not paid for my comments. All my yelps are posted because I LOVE the place I go to.
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Very delicious! Their options of mole are great but I usually stick to the originally sweet mole from Oaxaca. Had their mole enchiladas with pollo and was happy with it, their rice is great as well. Very tentative here with great customer service. Didn't get to take much photos but will be back to do so.

Ashley D.

Yelp
I'm very disappointed because I see a lot of good reviews on this place maybe it was just my bad luck. I ordered the Caldo de Pollo. It was very plain. It only comes with chicken and rice. I also had a huarache and it tasted like it was made three days ago and they just reheated the food. The cheese was stale. I wish I could've taken a picture but I just threw it away. I didn't even eat it honestly just tried the food and I thought it was gonna make me sick. The soup had a strong smell of chicken that was not washed and the flavor of the soup tasted like sink water with dirty chicken. Worst part was that I paid in cash. I couldn't get a refund due because I don't live in the area and once I got home, I didn't wanna go back to that place ever again.
google avatar

Ken J.

Yelp
A teeny weeny place in an off-the-beaten-path street in South County, do not underestimate this place. THERE IS A REASON THIS PLACE HAS A MICHELIN STAR! You'd think that their restaurant title is an exaggeration, but I am here to tell you that they COMFORTABLY live up to their own self-hype. I DARE you to find a restaurant in ALL of SoCal that exceeds the halcyon heights they reach here with their molés. When you come here, your odyssey in search for the finest molé you can find IS OVER. Penelope in the form of a chocolate or rojo molé will comfort you within her loving embrace. If you LOVE molé, have now read this review, live in South LA County or North OC County, and have no intention to make a pilgrimage here, I'd have to consider you a fool, crazy, or both. Don't be a crazy fool: go and treat yourself!

Frank M.

Yelp
Thanks to our waiter we were able to try a few different moles while staying within the menu options. Service was slow and they were out of bottles coke and some beers. I would still recommend you come and try the mole.
google avatar

Willie Y.

Yelp
Highly recommended there food outstanding and especially there cafe de la Hoya and the employees super respectful

Jessica M.

Yelp
i've been coming here since 2017 when it was still decorated with artesanías. i was in the neighborhood today so i swung by and i can honestly say the moles taste exactly the same as they did 8 years ago, so authentically delicious. they give you a little sampler of the moles with the chips to start. today i got the enmoladas de pollo with half pipian mole and half mole verde and it was too good. super proud of rocio and staff on their well deserved michelin star!

Hilario M.

Yelp
Buen hambiente, tranquilo, acogedor, exquisito menú variado axaqueño Chiles en nogada muy recomendado, y sobretodo la tlayuda oaxaqueña y variedad de moles

Elizabeth E.

Yelp
New spot! Excellent food, service & ambiance... And Taco Tuesday is delicious! The place is clean & the service is excellent!
google avatar

LC G.

Yelp
Their food is really good, but after coming here for years I was pretty disappointed with their change . It's normal to expect prices to increase but when the price goes up and the portions get smaller.. it leaves you unsatisfied. Might not be back as often as before.
google avatar

Xóchitl M.

Yelp
The food was perfect! Every mole was so tasty and done well. The rice, (oh the rice) and beans were deeelicious! Many places don't get these 2 things right, but they did! Everything was so, SO good! I am definitely returning to try more things. Hopefully, it stays consistent. What they really need to work on is the service. They were kind and polite but not good on checking in after serving the food. Waitressing has become a lost art, and it really isn't that hard to do, even when it's busy. I speak from experience. I was once a waitress, but I got trained. Anyways, there are only 6 rables inside and 2 outside. 2 waiters could easily have checked in on us. Instead, we waited a good chunk of time for one of them to look our way. They never did. So, finally I had to go out of my way to get their attention. I still waited some more and asked again. This can easily be improved; but, even still, I will return! Note: it was my first time here.

Steph L.

Yelp
Even though this location is small it's packed with delicious flavor! I've always been greeted with a basket of chips and their different moles to try and I would have never thought of that as a sampler but it's Genius!! Every mole you try is so tasty but my favorite is the "Manchamanteles" it's smokey, spicy, delicious especially on top of the chille relleno! Which by the way is plated beautifully! They make every dish with love !!
google avatar

Andrea H.

Yelp
Really cute hidden gem the restaurant is down to earth and feels like most local hole in the walls. There is pretty limited seating in doors but every time I've been we've been seated no problem. Love that they give chips with mole instead of with salsa haha and the cafe de olla is delicious and comforting. Really great place to go for a low key dinner and you can't go wrong with anything you order
google avatar

Luis M.

Yelp
Very good food but very bad service. The waitress is rude and inattentive. I live an hr away the food is worth to try but again the service sucks

Byron C.

Yelp
First and foremost the food is so good. Anyone who has had mole oaxaqueño in Mexico knows this place's flavors are legit. They start you off with chips and a few different types of mole sauces while you look over the menu. We ordered molotes and chilaquiles con mole and added eggs. My taste buds literally died and went to heaven.
google avatar

Paola P.

Yelp
This was our second visit and I can't wait to return. The offering of moles is unmatched! There are several options so if you can bring extra friends who like to share I highly recommend so you can try different deliciousness. The place is small yet comfortable & the presentation of the dishes is a work of art like you would see at an upscale restaurant. The complimentary chips are presented with a drizzle of 4 different moles which makes for a good sampling. I had a hard time deciding on a dish because each mole was so good. Our waitress was sweet & attentive & shared that the owner cooks the moles herself in the mornings. We also ordered memelas de frijol negro, plátanos in tequila sauce (to die for!) & café de la olla. They certainly deserve their Michellen. We actually both agreed that we like the food here more than Guelaguetza in LA which is very famous. I'd love to return on a weekend to enjoy the outdoor patio & visit their spice shop. I wish I had taken more photos. This place is not to be missed!
google avatar

Chrystal Skye J.

Yelp
This is our romantic spot for Michelin rated exotic fare! Unique and heritage rich mole sauces are the foundation for a variety of savored dishes on this menu!
google avatar

Alica Y.

Yelp
Food was good, just needed more salt and flavor. Seating is so limited. Public bathroom has to be asked for and let in. Service is very slow. They forget to bring stuff and have to be reminded. Can or glass drinks. This place could be kept up a lot more. Very small. Water is serviced in a motel can cup thing. And it tasted like metal. It was an okay visit.
google avatar

Norma F.

Yelp
Why the menu is not available? I would like to go for breakfast since this place is so close by. I'm craving for a good Cafe de Olla and Entomatada. I'm giving a 3 because is not showing the menu, but I know it deserves a 4/5. Hopefully the Chef can follow up on this.
google avatar

Venetzy M.

Yelp
Chips to start off, delicious. We ordered Mole Verde and Mole Oaxaca, delicious. 10 out of 10

Jim B.

Yelp
I have seen where people are upset because the service is slow. I think with the best food you need to be patient. And it was so worth waiting for this food. The chips are wonderful and everything we tried we loved. I suppose the service could have been faster, but they also give you time to enjoy your meal. If you put your phone away and enjoy the company of the person or people you are with, which is what a dining experience should be, I do not think I have had better food in Southern California.

Beatriz S.

Yelp
Ate here because the food used to be amazing when it was Gloria's . But was disappointed today. I find it ridiculous that a sit down restaurant doesn't have restrooms for customers . Before they did let me use it there but the waitress didn't let me take my 3 year old today. She told me to go across to the store which also didn't let me use it the liquor also refused so had to squat my 3 year old in the street because it was either that or she peed herself. We also got served horchata which was bad milk had spoiled . I ordered quesabirria which was ok but very a small amount of food for very expensive price. 3 small birria tacos with no consomé and very little meat for $20. My children ordered burritos which were also pretty bad . The street venders sell way better burritos than those . In total I paid about $79 for two kid burritos, my plate and an appetizer and the aguas frescas. Don't get me wrong if the food is great I don't mind paying a good price but it was too expensive for the amount of food and the quality of it . I gave jt 2 starts because atleast they had the AC on

Adan L.

Yelp
Great food the enchiladas de mole poblano was the best I've had. Can't wait to comeback the service was great too.
google avatar

Mdr M.

Yelp
It was the second time to this place. We are a family of 5. We order appetizers and drinks. When we order our food. We each took a turn to place are order. The food came out and everyone got there food excepted one. We wait for a couple minutes . The plate never came out and we ask what was the hold up. The server said to us that we hadn't place the order for that plate. She never apologize our try to make it better. After that she ignored our table and never came back. So I never got my food and just waited for my family to finished there food. The worst service ever. So unfortunately.

Jack B.

Yelp
It used to be El Tepeyac (not related to the famous one on Evergreen), instead we found this one. Well I like trying new places, and I like Mole Poblano, so my wife and I stopped in just as they opened. It was hot and the waitress put on the A/C. She brought us a basket of chips with mole drippings on them, no water, no napkins or any kind of silverware. We ordered, she brought our plates. My wife's enchiladas looked great so I couldn't wait for my mole poblano w/chicken. When she put it in front of me I thought, "I'm going to need a box, cause no way am I finishing this huge piece of chicken," WRONG!!! It was a very thin and I mean paper thin piece of chicken (not the entire breast) on top of a huge mound of white rice, I like rice but come on. Don't get me wrong it was tasty, but I would've liked the entire chicken breast like most restaurants give you. My guess is they make more money by thinly slicing the chicken and make more servings out of it. Well, I won't be recommending them to anyone and I won't be going back.
