The Best Cuban Barbecue In Hialeah

"Cuban barbecue spots are generally very casual takeout spots, but La Esquina Del Lechon is a sit-down restaurant serving up whole lechon asado every week, Wednesday through Saturday. And even though they aren’t technically in Hialeah, they deserve to be an honorary member because they’re close enough and the pork is so damn good. It’s roasted in the traditional Caja China, seasoned with homemade mojo, and served in a huge portion that comes fresh off the hog. The meat is juicy and tender but still has a layer of crispy skin. Pair it with some mojo-slathered yuca and platanos maduros. " - yuliet llanes

Our 11 Favorite Cuban Restaurants In Hialeah

"While lechon asado is usually reserved for special occasions, La Esquina Del Lechon serves it up every week, Wednesday through Saturday. And even though they aren’t technically in Hialeah, they deserve to be an honorary citizen because the pork is so damn good and it’s not a far drive at all. It’s roasted in the traditional caja china, seasoned with homemade mojo, and served in a huge portion that comes fresh off the hog. The meat is juicy and tender but still has that layer of crispy skin. Pair it with some mojo-slathered yuca and platanos maduros. Watch: Crackling Cuban Roast Pork in a Florida Strip Mall | Eater

"A popular Doral spot for traditional Cuban lechón asado, this unassuming strip-mall restaurant is noted for its careful preparation and for roasting whole pigs — often a 60-pound hog — in a caja china (literally “Chinese box”), a technique tracing back to Chinese railroad workers in Cuba. Despite the owner being Venezuelan rather than Cuban, the roast pork stands out in Miami’s competitive Cuban-food scene, and the dishes are presented as both excellent and reasonably priced." - Eater Video

Google
Elianni was our host at the table she was courteous and did do a nice recommend to one of our group. They even have a bar you can sit at that serves wine and beer. It’s a very nice designed restaurant the food portion is big that you take home.

Google
Ordered a steak sandwich and although the service was quick the food was atrocious…. Steak had no flavor, and the presentation did not resemble anything of what a steak sandwich should look like. Super lazily put together, they threw chunks of steak on Cuban bread with tomato that was old and should have been thrown out 3 days ago. Used to eat here every now and then but the quality has really taken a nose dive….. disappointing

Google
The food was absolutely amazing! Highly recommend the Lechon app, great portions and fair prices. I waited was very nice, only thing, no one really spoke English. So get a book, learn a phrase or two and get down there because it’s worth every bite!

Family Movva

Google
Modern restaurant with outdoor and indoor seating and a bar and counter. All things pork including some of the most tender and flavorful lechon asado (roast pork Cuban style) in South florida. Service is traditional and excellent - Gracias Tamara!

Google
Well, we were treated like we don't belong here in Doral. The person in front of us ordered cafe. He received the cafe in a real cup. We ordered cafe and ours came in styrofoam. The person behind us ordered cafe, his was in a real cup. I told the wait person we were dinning here. They said this is take out, that's why we got styrofoam. I have a feeling it has something to do with the color of our skin, and I chose to speak English instead of Español. Will not return to this establishment. It's a shame the warehouse I work out is 1 block away.

Google
I can't speak for the service or atmosphere as I ordered through DoorDash. But the food? Excellent! I got the Lechon Asado with black beans and white rice. The pork was amazing. Flavorful and so tender it fell apart as I was trying to pick it up with my fork. The black beans were tasty with good seasoning. The rice was cooked perfectly. I dumped my beans into the rice and enjoyed the whole thing. Very generous portions. If I find myself in Miami again, I will definitely visit the restaurant. Total was $25 without tip but that including DoorDash fees.

Google
This Appetizer was everything!!! Sausage, chicharron, fried cheese and arepitas. It was so good! Definitely a plate to share. And if you are like me who just wants to pick on something...then this alone makes for a main dish. Very well served for the price.

Google
Update 02-25-25: Eighteen years later, and La Esquina del Lechón is still my go-to spot for comfort food and excellent service. I come here at least once every 1-2 weeks—mostly for breakfast, but sometimes for lunch—and it never disappoints. This time, I had their Desayuno Criollo, featuring ropa vieja (shredded beef stew), black bean soup—also known as potaje de frijoles negros, caraotas, or habichuelas negras, a perfectly grilled arepa de maíz blanco, and fried eggs—the ultimate combination of flavor and tradition. Of course, no breakfast here is complete without their café con leche, which is, hands down, the best in Miami. To top it all off, I indulged in a guava cheesecake, a perfect sweet finish to a hearty meal. Beyond the incredible food, what truly makes this place special is the staff. They go out of their way to make you feel at home, and the service is always warm and attentive. A special shout-out to Sonia, who always treats me and my guests like family—thank you for making every visit such a great experience! If you're looking for authentic, flavorful food and a welcoming atmosphere, this is the place. Highly recommended!

Yelp
La Esquina del lechon is always a solid and delicious spot. great service, good prices, big portions. super clean restaurant, lots of parking available. great for breakfast and lunch.

Yelp
Let me begin with saying this review is solely based on my Doordash experience. Ordered half a Pan con Lechon and 3 ham croquettas. The croquettas were delivered in a to go container nestled on top of a bed of lettuce and tomatoes. The croquettas looked overcooked but were soggy and limp from being placed on the salad. Not sure that was the best way to package that. The "Famous" Pan con Lechon was not bad. Bread was soft, pork was tender and juicy and sprinkled in were some crunchy pork skins which was nice added change of texture. Onions and mojo were not too aggressive. Overall not a bad sandwich. But for the price of close to $14 for what look maybe a 4-5 inch sandwich I was disappointed. And when you add the soggy croquettas. The $20 spent was definitely not worth it. Maybe the experience is better at the restaurant and not through Doordash. Another experience to review for another day but as for Doordash, I would explore other options.

Yelp
The chicharrones here are the BEST!! Friendly staff, great atmosphere. Sometimes parking can be difficult.
google avatar

Yelp
Liked it! We had their famous lechon sandwich, and a chicken soup. The portions are huge and the flavors are excellent! Great service but brush up on your Spanish as nobody speaks English!

Yelp
Amazing little Lechón (Pork) place in Doral. Food was really good. Service was great. Waitress was very helpful and explained all portions sizes which was super helpful. The place reminds of a little place in the Caribbean. Definitely a repeat for us!
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
Had an absolutely amazing lunch. Service was prompt with limited wait for food despite being very busy. Ambiance is nothing special. It's loud due to a lot of people and no real separation beyond enough room for servers. I had the Friday special. Price was well worth the portion size.
google avatar

Roly P.

Yelp
If you are looking for authentic Cuban style, pork look no further than this establishment. The Chicharrones are a must, regardless of what else you order at this location. All the employees at this location are very friendly and attentive. You can also request to customize what it is you'd like to taste and they will make it work for you. Today we had their Chicharrones for appetizer which is their staple, we also had masitas de puerco a.k.a. fried pork chunks that came with Mariquitas aka thin sliced green bananas fried and we also ordered a tamal. We arrived at noon time for lunch and by the time we concluded our lunch, every table was full, which is a great indication of the quality of food at this location. Parking can be a little challenging, so try to arrive early if possible.

Yelp
We used to come to La Esquina often but haven't in quite a while. Having craved the chicharones, we had to go back. We ordered the sampler that had chicharones, queso, mini arepas and sausages. This was probably the best thing we had there. I got the churasco and my wife got the milanesa de pollo. Her milanesa was burn to a crisp and very dry on the inside, which sucked cause you can tell there was good flavor after a bite. My churasco on the other hand was super juicy and a nice but but had ZERO flavor. Like nothing at all. Had to add salt and a ton of chimichuri to eat it. I wouldn't order it again, also considering how expensive it was. The inside is a typical cuban restaurant with nothing too fancy. Our server OK as well. Overall I would go back but it wouldn't be high on my list.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect Pan con lechon. Tender with fresh toasted cuban bread. We also had the mixed appetizer platter. So good. Our waitress was ver nice and attentive. Clean laid back atmosphere.

Yelp
Second time here after a few years,Extremely noisy room. Half rack of Ribs was poor on meat and kind of dry. Waitress Fiorella was fast.
google avatar

Yelp
They have some of the best lechon, and Cuban food in Miami. This spot is nestled in an industrial area between medley and Doral, but don't let this stop you from coming and trying some delicious authentic Cuban food. Everything from the morro, the pork, maduros, grilled chicken, even the fresh bread - is delicious. They also have great mariquitas that you can dip into their garlic or cilantro sauce. One hack is to ask for a side of extra mojo for the pork. They also do great catering, so if you have an event you need food for- you can trust you are going to get an amazing spread from them. The staff is all super friendly and helpful, and overall this spot is a reliable place for good Cuban food. I think will always stop by if I'm in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered this spot via DoorDash on my lunch break at work and wow am I glad I did. The taco salad was huge and full of juicy chicken. It arrived very well packaged and is totally enough to feed two people I only ate half and I was stuffed. Loved this salad, can't wait to order from La esquina del lechón again!
google avatar

Yelp
The service = amazing = the whole staff. I would order random plates from the menu and every plate is on point. You can taste the quality and the way it's presented it's amazing. I love this place and I highly recommend it.
google avatar

Alejandro F.

Yelp
This is my twelve visit at La Esquina del Lechon and I left disappointed. The fried pork chunks were dried. The congris rice was dried and tostones plantains were undercooked. The tres leches desert was supper sweet but not yummy. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the ambiance was delightful as always. Coming to Miami and eating Latin food is number 1 on my list.

J V.

Yelp
Stumble upon this place through yelp. Thank you!!! The speed of service, the food and the service were all amazing. We ordered the large pan con lechón (which by the way comes with French fries or mariquitas) and couldn't finish it. Will definitely come back again.
google avatar

Bryan R.

Yelp
One of the best pork sandwiches Pan con Lechon in Miami, but service was poor, waitress took our order & never came back !?!? Finally had to get up & chase down a different waitress, who basically started service at our table & when I asked what happened to our waitress, she said she was switched to take out orders. The in-house pork dishes are fresh & the Cuban bread so nice. The pork skin side dish looks like something I want to try. The Ambiance in this industrial area is busy but clean and parking is ok except at peak lunch time. The home made in house desserts like flan & tres leches were also top notch.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
First time in Miami, my wife insisted that we eat here, the food was excellent. The service was A1 and the ambience of the restaurant was inviting. We had an absolutely amazing dinner for three and was completely full by the time we were done. The food fast and we had an enjoyable time. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting the Miami area.
google avatar

Shannon D.

Yelp
The food was Great Taste buds were in a frenzy The service was top notch The feel felt modern but still felt like home Lil touches makes a difference Ambient lights and the ambiance felt cozy Will the foodie ninja return Ya damn sloppy
google avatar

Jose R.

Yelp
The pan con Lechon is incredible. The service is adequate but overall gets the job done. Always packed so be patient in finding a place to park.
google avatar

Zachary G.

Yelp
The food was delicious. I absolutely loved everything that we had ordered. The only issue was there was a STRONG language barrier. The servers didn't fully understand English, which is fine. I still was able to order my food just by pointing to the menu. Just never got the beer I ordered. I tried to ask about it, but the language barrier made it impossible unless there was something on the menu to point to. There was no drink menu.
google avatar

Amber M.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed when I came today. I've been coming to this place since I was a little girl. I would give it one star but I genuinely think we just came during a time where staff did not care. Because I know the potential this place has. All our food came and all of our fries were cold. We asked for all of them to be replaced and it seemed like the guy behind in the kitchen was arguing with our server after she had told them that our fries were cold. Mind you they gave us fresh fries but honestly they weren't even good either, no flavor. I got a croqueta sandwich and there was not even croqueta covering all the bread, so one croqueta, one sliver of ham and the Swiss cheese wasn't even melted. So disappointing...
google avatar

Mabel P.

Yelp
Flavorful food and quick service! The appetizer of fried cheese, arepas, and pork chunks is so good. I'll never turn down a basket of free bread, especially when it's so warm and soft. The portions are good for the price. The restaurant is well kept and clean. It's not fancy, but I would return.
google avatar

Maria A.

Yelp
I have been to this restaurant many times. They never disappoint. The food is always consistent, fresh and delicious. Great service especially Fiorella who always takes care of us.

Elvira R.

Yelp
We have been going to la esquina del lechón for years never dissapointed Service is great the waitress are courteous and always asking if everything is ok our we need something Food is deliciosa We feel like home go almost every saturday
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
I have eaten here over 100 times in the last two years. I've had virtually everything on the menu. The food here is consistently good. This servers are kind. Their breakfast is A+. El desayuno ranchero is my go to. It's a fantastic deal. For lunch, the Pollo Peshuesado is my go to but the beef soup, Vaca Frita, Pork plate - everything is good. I'm really happy I found this place.
google avatar

Emely R.

Yelp
Emely's boyfriend here writing the review.. lol. It was a phenomenal place and the lechón is on point cannot compare to no where else. The customer service makes you feel like your right at home. The presentation of the plates is very nice. Go there for the queso frito appetizer, el famoso lecho en la caja china, and maybe dessert but it probably won't fit due to the enormous amounts. I rate this restaurant a 10 out of 5!!! Emely here.. I agree with everything he said lols So 5 out of 5 it is but it does deserve that 10 out of 5 though (;
google avatar

R B.

Yelp
The food, service, and prices are very good. They also sell bottles of their hot sauce. Ate the garlic shredded pork platter. Lots of food for the money and tasty.

J H.

Yelp
Have been here a few times for the sandwiches, and the cubano and medianoche are very good. Toasted bread crunches as you bite down into juicy meat and cheese. The cubano was almost footlong and could be shared depending on your appetite; the medianoche is smaller and for one person. Plantain chips are light and crispy. Friendly service, easy to order at outside window and enjoy outside or take to-go. There is also inside restaurant seating.
google avatar

Naomi K.

Yelp
This place consistently has good food with large portions and reasonable prices. Tried the pork tacos and they were fabulous. They're roast pork (lechon al carbon) is their specialty so it's loaded into the tacos. You might think $15 for two tacos? But they are pretty massive. Complete with sour cream and guacamole plus you get to chose a side. Their moro rice has some good pieces of pork too. Definitely a filling meal. The chicharron de pollo was pretty tasty too. Anything with pork will probably be delicious.
google avatar

Mitch P.

Yelp
This place rocks ,.....especially the Pork dishes , steaks and all of the other tipical dishes ... quick service ,....parking is a bit tricky , but so worth it .
google avatar

Suhail A.

Yelp
Having had authentic Cuban style lechón, this fell a little short of our expectations. The chicharrones we're good. However the yuca came out cold and the lechón on the bone was a little dry. The waitress did not like the fact we asked her to separate the check but she didn't ask when she took our order either since we were a group of 10 people.

Antonio V.

Yelp
Esperando mucho tiempo la comida más mala de Miami, todo allí es malísimo no vayan van a perder el hígado!!!!!
google avatar

Natalia O.

Yelp
Got La Esquina del Lechón for catering at work the other day and I have been obsessed ever since! We had a bit of everything to try from (plátanos, salad, pollo, lechón, etc...) and I didn't have a bad thing to say about any of it. I also had one too many bites of the flan because I could not hold back... lol! It was truly delicious. I know the catering experience can be very different from that of dine-in and even takeout, so I am looking forward to dining in, especially since it's surprisingly close to home.
google avatar

Hector S.

Yelp
Tasty Cuban food , like homemade. Pork is cooked perfectly and potions are generous. Fried plantains are excellent

Yelp
In town for business last year (August 2019) before covid hit, during the business trip had the pleasure of choosing spots to choose to eat for some close friends and teammates, over a week different spots, got to sample a little bit of everything from different nationalities and different cultures, this was our last dinner before heading to the airport last year, also it was close to a K1 speed which we happened do a lap around first before coming here to eat. Let me break down everything we had, how all of it faired starter - deep fried pork belly, this was our start plate, once this dish was served I knew this was going to be a good place to eat haha, similar to roasted suckling pig (Filipino style or lechon kawali) made perfect, meat to fat was 60/40 more fat then meat but i'm not complaining sliced small, so each was bite size parrot fish with some shrimp - I don't normally ordered fish but per the waiter it was a must try, so we ordered it and I have to say I would order it again, lite, fresh, flavorful whole side of lechon (roasted pig) - this was their signature must try dish, almost a whole side of pig roasted I believe, every section I sampled was juicy, greasy goodness, so much left over took it home and had it the next day and still had leftovers for another two days, each time reheating was in an oven was preferred flavor was perfect each time baby back ribs - standard, sauce was sweet, for me it was ok, i've had my own share of baby back ribs from several other spots, as well as friend made, this again was just ok, better then your chilli's ribs or chain restaurant ribs, but not close to homemade ribs sweetened plantains - standard, delicious with glazed sugar on every bite steamed veggies (broccoli, string beans, bell peppers and I don't recall the name of the yellow slices of veggies) brown rice or moro rice - slightly dry, to suck up all that juice from that pig this is a perfect match, by itself I would not order it again, needs to be accompanied with a meat preferably something with allot of juice or grease hahha Everything we sampled was above par, the waiter asked after we ordered are you sure you can finish all of that, I said yeah this is just a snack we're going to inandout after for 4x4 and shake haha, we finished everything but the roasted side of pork, I took what we didn't finish back home which was a 5hr flight, 20 min drive, then reheated sections of the meat for 3 days, glad to say every day just as flavorful as the first I did read allot of the reviews prior to coming here allot of them said get there early in the day if your ordering that pork signature dish or it would be dried out, the section we had was good and we ate I believe around 5pm, wouldn't change a thing food ***** must try more price $$$ depends what you order service ***** very helpful and informative staff ambiance ***** open, air conditioned, well spaced
google avatar

Roxana R.

Yelp
Hot take: this is the best Cuban sandwich in Miami. It's absolutely delicious and the price is even better. This place is a hole in the wall in a really industrial part of Doral but it's worth your time and money if you're ever in the area.
google avatar

Linzy R.

Yelp
Excellent spot for lunch great chicharrones or get the appetizer that brings chicharrones, sausage, pan de bono & queso frito I paired this with a salad excellent and filling! I had a glass of red sangria it was also really good ! You will love the cilantro garlic sauce with everything!! A must visit if you are in this area!
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Do yourself and your wallet a favor and do not go here! The moment we entered the door and said we were a party of 7 the staff seemed annoyed. I couldn't understand what the waitress was saying and I speak perfect Spanish. She was so rude she did not bother to repeat herself, I had to figure out where to sit. I was given two small tables with an extra chair for 7 people! Our actual waitress seemed to not want to be working period. Her attitude was the worst, and the cherry on top was the terrible food. No flavor! I was really looking forward to eating here but it was my first and last time.
google avatar

William S.

Yelp
Bring your stretchy pants because the portions are generously huge. I've been here twice in a week and I'm glad to have lechón a mile away. Both times I came in to place to-go orders. First for lechon asado and then caja china, both with a side of chicharron and guava cheesecake. The crunch on the caja china skin was like eating a potato chip. The garlic and onion sweat really helps the pork moisture content. Without it, could be dry, but there are sauces to help but, I didn't need them. I'll be back after I finish my leftovers.
google avatar

Rick V.

Yelp
First time here. In for dinner on a Friday at 4:30. Not busy. Nice place and got seated right away. Not knowing if there was going to be a language barrier I made a list of what I wanted in both English and Spanish. The server was very good and had no problem with English. Ordered: Chicharrons $ 5.45 Should have sent them back because they were not hot. Small cuts. I was planning on taking most of them home. Maduros 5 pieces only $ 2.95 Good Lechon Caja china. Side of black beans and white rice. Good portion $ 24.50 This dish is why I went. I was looking for crispy skin, even had it on my list. The meat was very white and very dry. Plenty of skin but definitely not crispy at all.. Very disappointed. Drove from North Miami just for crispy skin. May come back for something else.
google avatar

Dalmar S.

Yelp
Stay Away from this place unless you want to pay a visit to the Urgent Care the next day. Went with my husband yesterday around 11:45am to grab an early lunch and upon ordering we were told we needed to wait 15 minutes. We figured it's early and everything should be fresh so we waited. When we received our food half the Lechon was both hot and cold as if it was just reheated. Well I'm not guessing I've reheated leftovers and all the meat was definitely reheated. Fast forward today and we are both extremely sick. Food poisoning. Their food is NOT FRESH and to add insult to injury it's SUPER OVERPRICED.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
So good. They do get busy quickly at lunch so go early. I had the midnight sandwich, tres leches and a ham empanada.
google avatar

James K.

Yelp
Overall decent experience. Definitely not the best ribs in Miami by far. In fact they were dry and very fatty. The Pan con Lechon was also very salty, other than that, there isn't much else to write. With such great reviews maybe I came on a bad day. I'll give it another shot again someday.
google avatar

Wolfe L.

Yelp
Food was okay. They said the empanadas were homemade but it wasn't as juicy and lacked flavor. The lechon was what we came for, but unfortunately it was dry and lacked a pop of flavor. The cheesecake was delicious. The service was poor as our waitress (Johanna) was busy with catering services despite having at least 6 employees already working on that big order. Their was only two tables occupied that night.
google avatar

Rachel P.

Yelp
Came here a second time and wasnt as pleased as my first time. Food wasnt bad! But the chicharrones were a little stale. :( Service was also slower and I hadn't noticed how TINY the booth tables were! Food was still good overall, so I cant go lower than 4 stars on this place.
google avatar

Maria E.

Yelp
Presently surprised at how flavorful the food was. Morro is something I frequent often and at times can lack flavor due to the seasoning required but this restaurant nailed it! The meats were cooked to perfection and the homemade sauces exquisite. Our waitress Fiorella, was fantastic. Not once did we have to ask for a refill, napkins etc. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Fabiola H.

Yelp
La Esquina del Lechón makes the best Caja China Lechon on Saturday's. The pork is mouth watering , yuca con mojo and moros ... best in town ... we love the service .. Fiorella is the best waitress .. ask for her and you won't regret it ... we keep on coming back every Saturday .. delicious, clean and best service in town
google avatar

Barbie O.

Yelp
I've been going for several years to this place and it doesn't change even after COVID. The food as well as the service were very good. The waitress I forgot her name she was from Venezuela and there is someone else there with her same name she was truly awesome you didn't have to wait for her she was always checking up in us to see how we were doing. The only thing that changed is that how they charge you for the chicharrones which was given free before. I truly recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy a delicious meal.
google avatar

Minerva M.

Yelp
Haven eating at the location. This review is for catering only . I ordered lechon, yuca and congri for 8 people but you have to pay for 15!!! They only do 15 or more.. way to much food and that would not be a problem if they food is good enough to repeat!! But it's not.. plain and just your average cafeteria food. Find a better place to cater your next event
