"A mildly sweet and orange-flavored pan de muerto comes out of the ovens of this Logan Square bakery. The light and airy pan de muerto is available as human shapes and individual round pastries sprinkled with orange sugar." - Brenda Storch

Google
A terrific Latino bakery! Great selection of baked goods of all varieties. Delicious and reasonably priced. So glad we found this place.

Google
This is my favorite bakery to go to in the morning for bread. Their bread is always so fresh. 3 leches cake is so good. I was impressed by how good my cake looked. My husband showed him a picture of the cake design I wanted, he did an excellent job cake looked amazing and tasted delicious.

Google
Usually this place is really good, it’s one of the best local bakeries around. So I am very disappointed to find that the donut I bought was raw and unbaked. Had I not split it open before eating it could’ve gone bad.

Victoria Ocholla

Google
Best Tres Leches cake I've ever had! So moist and flavorful. I have since ordered a large cake for a friend and have spread the word about this place. They have lots of yummy looking pastries and baked goods. Look forward to trying some in the coming months and of course some more Tres Leches for yesars to come. 😋😋😋

Google
Felling gross 🤢out about that place finding like a piece of string of clothes cloth? I don't know ,but I almost take a bite from that while eating the concha, I had to throw away all my pan dulce bag because of that so gross,🤢

Dana Moran

Google
Eating a fresh banana nut muffin as we speak! It’s light and airy, not heavy like so many muffins are. And at only $1.50 you can’t beat the price!!

Google
This place is great to buy Mexican bread I come here every day.

Google
Such a nice clean shop! So fresh! The empanadas are to die for! I had the pina one and the authenticity was spot on! You definitely get what you pay for. The chocolate was super rich and all the bread was super flaky and fresh. Definitely going back 😭😭😭😍

Yelp
I called to order a mocha tres leche cake. I was informed that I would have to come to the store to place an order. I walked the 1.5 miles to the store to place the order. It was very helpful that they had display cakes to choose from. The cake was ready when they said it would be ready. It was beautiful and tasted amazing. It was also very affordable. I would definitely order from here again.

James G.

Yelp
Received a 10" Tres Leches cake for my birthday and didn't disappoint! Great spot for authentic Latino treats!

Arielle Z.

Yelp
I ordered the tres leches for my birthday and it was beyond dry. And I don't mean, there wasn't enough leche. I mean the cake would've been dry even if it wasn't a tres leche. I read so many good reviews about this place so I'm really disappointed that it wasn't even remotely good.

Amanda G.

Yelp
Super welcoming neighborhood place, big selection, and a really delicious cream recipe!

Roger M.

Yelp
Just had their mocha tres leches cake and it's amazing! Everyone at our dinner agreed!

Yelp
I kinda had a weird dream similar to Ghost Busters. I did not dream of the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man, instead I dreamt of being chased down the street by Carmen the Concha. She was a giant warm and moist giant Concha with Churro arm and legs. She knew that my weakness was all sweets, and especially baked goodies! In my dream, I tripped and fell into her arm (which I proceeded to eat to free myself). Sadly, I woke up sleepwalking into this little gem. Estrella has delicious baked goods made fresh daily. The selection isn't enormous like you find in other Mexican Bakeries, but for a gentrifying area where our population is shrinking, it's enough to welcome new faces from around the globe or the city to taste great baked treats. Prices are very reasonable, although they may be a bit higher than you would find in Little Village. Next time you're tempted to pop into Skunkin' donuts to buy stale franchise donuts, consider popping in here instead.

Yelp
You must try their cafe con leche! So creamy, sweet and inexpensive. I've been coming here for 8 years and it's never let me down!

Edith V.

Yelp
A lady named Catalina was so cute and welcoming. I ended up way more than I went in for because I wanted to support this business lol just tasted a couple of the goodies I bought and they are so good! I'll definitely be back :)

Jeanette K.

Yelp
Was craving pastry but was left disappointed. Picked a variety of items. They all taste of flour. More buttery options taste strongly of margarine. Had to throw it away. Tres leches birthday cake from here was good so I came back for the pastries. Won't be back again.

Yelp
I use to live literally down the street from this place about 15 years ago. I know live in Rogers park and I always drive out to this bakery because it is the best! If you get there early enough the conchas are nice and warm. If you're looking for authentic Mexican bread pan dulce and or anything for that matter this is the place. I spend about 30 to 40 dollars every time. I highly recommend this bakery it's about the only thing still standing since I was a kid.

Stephen M.

Yelp
At present, I walk in and see what I want. I choose by appearance--haven't been disappointed, very pleased. It's a great place to start in on learning a new foreign language of baked items. The one-person operation is friendly and willing to please. Be warned: high sugar content. Surprising?

Ashanthi D.

Yelp
Their mocha tres leches cake is insanely delicious- so rich and decadent but not too sweet. I highly recommend this bakery to anyone looking for a cake for a special occasion. Excited to try more of their baked goods next time!

Anna G.

Yelp
great selection of delicious pastries, cakes (refrigerated section!), breads, cookies, etc. the customer service is second to none. if you're in the area, do yourself a solid and stop by.

Siva A.

Yelp
The best Tres Leches I ever had. They have some cakes, cookies and many baked items. This definitely will be my to go spot for sweets. The owner was so kind and sweet.

Hannah C.

Yelp
really good quality pastries at like ridiculously low prices !!! saw so many people coming in and out and everything looked so good we had to come here two mornings in a row. we definitely cleared that wntire plate between three people all before like 9 am lol. needless to say we were stuffed for the rest of the day but it was so worth it even if i did walk around with my pants unbuttoned/unzipped for a while

Christian L.

Yelp
This bakery has some very good and fresh pan dulce. We usually stop in about 2-3 days a week And even though the lady there doesn't speak English to well we seem to understand what she says to us, shes very sweet. I recommend this bakery-fresh, good and not expensive.

Wing C.

Yelp
I saw tres leches cake from the window, and stopped in to get a slice. It was one of the best slices I've had. Their bakery looks fully stocked and is currently still self service. Don't forget cash.

Gail P.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this bakery based upon reviews. I had purchased a doughnut, croissant, cookie, some conchas and a couple other things. The doughnut was literally so dried out it was hard, the croissants were so bland I just threw them out. Cashier was friendly but overall a waste of money.

Aly V.

Yelp
I'm Mexican and it can be a little tricky to find quality pan dulce. Everything here was delicious, super fresh and soft. Reasonably priced as well. I can honestly say the best pan dulce in Chicago. I had the chance to speak with Catalina when I came in, and she was a sweetheart! I will definitely be back!

Kelly N.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! I'm fortunate enough to live right around the corner. Which means I get to enjoy the glorious smell of baked treats when I exit my apartment...which ultimately leads me directly here so I can stuff my face with sugary goodness. Out of the handful of times I have bought something from here I have never been disappointed. Everything is fresh and tastes incredible. Their variety of custard treats are to die for(I highly recommend trying their boston creme esk donut or the sugar coated one! Oh hell to it try anything and everything, you will love it!). I hope more people get to experience this wonderful bakery.

Alia B.

Yelp
Such a gem of a place to find in my neighborhood. So many delicious, homemade pastries to choose from! This place is also my go to when I want to pick up authentic flan or tres leches!! I do not speak Spanish but the owner (?) is always so kind and welcoming.

Britini R.

Yelp
I don't come here often enough! But it's lovely and cute and cheap. The conchas (seashell-decorated sweet breads) are unfortunately my least favorite things here. I'm not a fan of their cream filling, either. The donuts are really well done and the fritters and empanadas are great. I haven't had a lot of the savory stuff here, but I recently tried a loaf of bread, and I am now interested in trying more. There is a juice squeezing machine that fascinates me. They sometimes have a sign out that advertises hot drinks.

Jared P.

Yelp
Cheap. Fattening. Bakery. Goodness. Hope you speak Spanish. Their English is limited. But, who cares? Their food is awesome and freshly baked.

Cara B.

Yelp
It's ok...the flan is good but everything else was just average (I've had a donut, cookie, brownie). The place is clean. They didn't give us a bag for most of our stuff...after I paid with my debit card ($10 minimum), we asked for an extra bag and they told us we needed to pay for the bag. If we wouldn't have had any cash, I would have had to run my credit card for another $10 just to get a plastic bag..

Fabi G.

Yelp
It's a small worn down bakery that has your basic needs. The prices are pretty cheap and you can get a wide range of baked goods from cookies, cakes, churos to some Mexican candy.

Hector E.

Yelp
Why I love this place: although the food is delicious, they treat everyone like family. Without a doubt you'll feel welcome Puerto Rican style. I love my people here

Joyce C.

Yelp
Found this place on our way to Humboldt Park and so happy we stopped in! We got an empanada with some milk/caramel-esque thing (still unclear) but it was amazing! We also got one of the giant cones with cream (you can't miss it). The cream was much heavier than we had expected but delicious nonetheless. Best part was that everything inside was super, super cheap. Great place for a quick breakfast.

Channyn W.

Yelp
What a perfect little find for a breezy Saturday! Tucked into a nondescript section of Armitage by Kimball, there is nothing outside that would clue you in to the yummy goodness that lies within! The interior is very basic, open floor with typical bakery cases along the walls. My spanish is extremely limited, so I couldn't tell you the names of most things, but trust me - where is it better to try things out than a bakery? It's difficult to mess that up! I purchased a huge brownie, a custard-filled flaky horn and something else that looks like glazed donuts filled with the same custard. There were so many delightful things to choose from - botillos, sugar cookies, croissants, fruit-filled pastries. And best of all - super inexpensive. My total was under $3.00. Beat that Lincoln Square!

Yelp
Best. Brownie. Ever. I just moved to Logan Square, right down the street from this place actually. I couldn't be luckier to have such a phenomenal bakery within a block my house. Everything is incredibly fresh, the pastries are delicious, and the woman who works there is very friendly! Seriously, just go and get the brownie. You won't regret it. It's fudgey, super chocolately, incredibly rich, and soft. You'll probably only be able to take a few bites but that's okay because mine lasted me 3 days and tasted just as good on day 3. Oh, and I forgot to mention, this place is CHEAP! The first time i went there, I got 4-5 huge pastries and some bread for 4 bucks and change. At any bakery downtown you would pay 3 times that. 5 well deserved stars for you, La Estrella.

Mulligrub G.

Yelp
Dang, walking in this bakery the fresh baked smell hits you right in the face, and i love it. There are a ton of selections to chose from, and the prices are very very affordable. I highly recommend the chocolate brownie with walnuts, and pretty much anything you can get your hands on.

GABRIEL M.

Yelp
This place is basic, the owners are a family and always helpful. Everything is completely cheap and tasty. Some donuts, a lot of cookies and meringues, some danish and those-shell-shaped-pastries-that-I-don't-really-like. You MUST try the apple turnovers. They are huge, covered in sugar crystals, and full of crispy spicy apple goodness. No lie. Mmmm.. sugary apple turnover and a Topo Chico water... They told me they wake up at 3:00 AM every morning to make the pastries, and are open until at least 9:00 PM! Visit after a trip to Armitage Produce across the street for some cheap breakfast/dessert treats :-)

Felix R.

Yelp
Here's the deal, a consumer financial payment study updated in 2018 concluded that 88% of purchases are made with debit or credit cards and that only 12% of consumers use cash. Needless to say a lot of people use plastic. If that is the case why do merchants create this minimum purchase barrier? This bakery did this to me and I had to leave my purchase on the counter cause I had no cash just plastic. If they did to me then they do it to other customers. They need to get up to speed and not let money walk out the door because they require customers to purchase a minimum of $10 before they can use their credit and debit cards.

Kristin S.

Yelp
Love this mexican bakery. Such a selection. Such freshness. So cheap!!! This time I had some mexican chocolate cake slices. I thought, surely these can't be too good, for like .60. BUT OH MY GOSH! Was it delicioso! Moist and chocolate. Probably had enough fat in it for a week's intake, but it was devine. I got like 7 things for under $5. Plenty of fruit empanadas. Elephant ears. Yum. They had cheese cake too, which I did not try. I see someone got a brownie... did not see that... maybe next time.

Natanais G.

Yelp
Its has many taste treat. Like these triangle shape baked bread with a strawberry jam or vanilla filling inside.

Your M.

Yelp
To all the ladies out there who know what it feels like to have a sweet craving, you can search no more. The brownie at La Estrella is in fact the BEST brownie I've ever had. The perfect mixture & icing, with the walnuts on top... makes it AMAZING! This bakery is very affordable ($5 or more to purchase w credit card)and yes I basically dabbled in just about everything they had to offer. Since I am a chocolate lover the brownie took the cake for me. Other than that being specifically what I went in for, all the other pastries are worth a try. I didn't have any complaints about the things I grabbed...but when chocolate is what you're craving nothing else compares.

Char Y.

Yelp
We were directed here by the great owners at Papa's Cache Sabroso. We were always looking forward to getting the guava pastry here after eating, and finally had the courage to ask. The bakery is nondescript from the outside, and had normal mexican bakery goods inside. We still only bought the guava pastries, but are very tempted to try the other custard fill, creme filled, sweets filled items there. We will go back...

ItzaFashion M.

Yelp
Love the way the store is laid out. Very clean. Great prices. Best parties and bread.

Analisa S.

Yelp
I love this place. Once you try their cake - either whole or by the slice if there are any left - you will never go back to another bakery. Its light yet rich, fluffy yet decadent. Its amazing. The white vanilla cakes and the chocolate mocha cakes. I am never sure quite what i'm getting but it doesn't ever matter. Bring a cake like this to a friend's birthday and everyone will be talking about it all night long. I like the people here. Keep Logan Square charming by supporting small, old businesses. The shoe store nearby is good too!

Angela L.

Yelp
I went this weekend and tried about 10 different items (brownie, cheesecake, doughnut, chocolate chip cookie, custard filled pastry, breads, etc.) and they were all bland and uninteresting. My friend and I took a bite of each item and then threw them all away. I'm not sure what brownie other reviewiers had, but ours was dry, light on chocolate, and just not good. I can make a better brownie from a box mix. I wouldn't recommend this place. The doughnut and chocolate cake were the best items but still weren't great.
