A taco shack with outdoor seating. It was quite busy when we got there. Many tables got various tacos and they all looked delicious. We ordered three different burritos - carnitas, fish and California. Both carnitas and fish tasted good but they were spicy! They were big. I was full after eating half the burrito. It’s a great place for an affordable, delicious and quick meal.

Regan Donecker

Google
Fantastic taco place. Average order is 4 tacos. If you’re hungry you’ll need 5-6 and might as well get the burrito. Carne asada, carnitas, and more! Cash discounts and a cute patio.

Sharn Kung

Google
They must use lard because the food tastes good and then it knocks you out. Affordable hole in the wall. Parking sucks, it’s much easier to get in if you’re coming up the street from the 210.

Google
First time visitor and it was so good the first time I came back 48 hours later for lunch. DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. Service is amazing (and friendly). Great outdoor seating. And the food is easily Top 5 tacos/burritos I’ve ever had. And I eat a LOT of tacos and burritos. LOL. When I’m back in the area I will come here first. Gracias La Estrella 🤘❤️

Google
So tasty 😭😭 a little expensive so I have to view it as a treat, but so worth it when I can afford it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 chicken burrito is amazing, so is the horchata.

Google
Tacos are really good. What i like most is the amount of meat they put in the tacos, bery generous. Not the cheapest tacos.you can get but worth it. The staff are nice and thr place is one of a kind. No inside seating but there are benches in thr patio. Only thing is they only have two salsas available (red and green), no guac or any other sauces.

Google
Very solid California burritos, carne asada fries, and tacos. All at a great price. Decent enough place to sit when the weather is nice. Just wish they had a monitor so you could see the order as they type it in.

John A

Google
Stopped in to grab a few tacos for lunch. The carne asada and al pastor were tasty with plenty of protein. The salsa options have great flavor.

Yelp
They got my order wrong, twice! I had to make the drive back to get the correct order. This place will not be my first choice when deciding on Mexican food. ***Update: this review is for the "La Estrella" on Foothill not the one in Fairoaks. I believe called. Viva La Estrella". I will be updating on the correct one. This one ( on Fairoaks) is my preferred choice over the other one. The food is actually way better here. I used to come here all the time before I moved to East side of Pasadena. But now I rather drive to this location instead of the location closer to my home.

Yelp
Very good!! One of my favorites, highly recommend, very tasty, fast, and friendly staff!

Yelp
I'm from Phoenix visiting LA. We had to stop in Pasadena to see our family property damage . Estrella was a family favorite and did not disappoint. Being from Phoenix I'm used to traditional Mexican food and Cali has better street food. Loved my ceviche and carne asada burrito.

Yelp
Tbh it was mid, not great but also not bad. I got asada tacos. Asada was kind of bland. Horchata was not good. Service was good
google avatar

Suzanne L.

Yelp
Wow. Kid was hungry so we stopped by. I got a reasonably priced fish taco that was out of this world and definitely equal to two tacos. He got an asada burrito that he calls EXCELLENT. The staff is lovely and there was no wait. Def will be back.
google avatar

Colin O.

Yelp
These guys get that fish tacos should have....fish. Huge portions for the price. Delicious HOT red salsa. Lots of cabbage and tomatoes smothered in a super tasty sauce. You can't go wrong! Slight up charge for credit and debit ($0.17 per taco). But you won't care. They're that good.
google avatar

Daryl P.

Yelp
They rang up the wrong burrito and gave me one I didn't want. I told the lady that I asked for a carnitas at the register. She just the burrito at me and called the next person. I dislike the asada from here, so this was a disappointment .
google avatar

Yoona L.

Yelp
Good carne asada tacos.. they also have lengua! I appreciated the friendly service and covered outdoor seating area. They have a pretty big menu including asada fries and horchata. Asada fries had cheese sauce and almost a gravy-like sauce that reminded me of poutine. Heavy on the toppings which I liked but I felt it was missing some pico de gallo. But salsas were flavorful and not unbearably spicy and they weren't stingy on the sauce which I always a win in my book. Wouldn't hesitate to try them again.
google avatar

Maggie C.

Yelp
I went to this place to get Asada fries since my go-to place was closed. Unfortunately the cheese was pure liquid and the fries were soggy :(
google avatar

Regina V.

Yelp
The nachos were not made with love jusy horrible, very cheap on the quantity of meat and dry. Nothing but onions and tomatoes. This place has gone down hill.

jerry c.

Yelp
Food is okay. Service is nice but my orders have been wrong twice recently, and I found a hair in tacos. Not usually a big deal but chef seemed unconvinced when I showed him.
google avatar

Jackie A.

Yelp
Bought two burritos few minutes ago it came with more rice then beans and meat in it economy is bad but not that bad
google avatar

Jose M.

Yelp
My son and nephew and niece got food poisoning yesterday from this place. They bought around 5:30 to 6:00pm. So if anyone else got sick from eating there now you know!!
google avatar

Yelp

Yelp
Best damn burrito I've ever had frfr and they are 24 hours!!!! Do not hesitate to go. I do believe this location is better than the others.
google avatar

Irene Q.

Yelp
When I'm the area, this is my go-to spot for fish and shrimp tacos! We also ordered cabeza and al pastor tacos. Always fresh and delicious. That red salsa is so good, they have to limit how much they give away. They need to bottle that salsa for sure! Recommend bringing cash, and parking is in the back and also limited street parking.
google avatar

Cynthia N.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. Their red sauce has good heat and flavor. Best for the area - so far in my opinion. Prices have steadily gone up, but that's everywhere. Glad this place is so close by.
google avatar

Nina R.

Yelp
This unassuming outdoor spot is a sleeper surprise! The fish, asada, chicken, and al pastor tacos were okay. But the shrimp taco ... wow! Large, juicy, perfectly cooked, and tender pieces of shrimp, nicely seasoned and paired with tangy lime crema and spicy salsa .... I'm sold. A private parking lot makes parking really easy. I'll be back for aaaall the shrimp tacos. And maybe some French fries, too.
google avatar

Danny V.

Yelp
A local favorite ! Nothing beats late night burrito or nachos with a Jamaica. If that doesn't fancy you try the tacos at least or carne asada fries
google avatar

Adriana V.

Yelp
Service was good. The location was dirty on the outside but they were cleaning the inside. They charge for extra salsas. Food was really bad. I ordered tacos and the meat had a lot of fatty chunks in it and made it hard to chew. They also slathered cheap red salsa on them and made them spicier than I wanted them to be. It seemed like the tortillas weren't fully cooked either. I'm really sad I wasted my money on food I didn't enjoy.
google avatar

Mario Y.

Yelp
Best damn burrito I've had in years. I can't believe this place did it. Why? I'm not from around here and just flat out caught me by surprise. Happy employees made for a good feel to the place. Good Ambiance.
google avatar

Yelp
Im so sad right now :/ this has been my favorite burrito spot for as long as I can remember. The red salsa and the carne asada are my favsss and I'm super picky so I pay attention to these things I ate here so much I had to take a break probably like 3-4 months. Finally decided I was ready so I got me my usual. Surprisingly a lady answered the phone which was strange because I'd never ever seen women work there and sadly as soon as I bit my burrito it was completely different. ALL OF IT. The carne, the rice, the beans and even the tortilla I cannot believe it. Idk if I'm buggin out because I haven't seen any other reviews on here but I'm hurt. And so confused so if there's any info out there lmk
google avatar

Alicia Z.

Yelp
It's a decent taco spot in Pasadena for street tacos and other things like burritos and nachos. Service was quick, food was good. Bring cash for lower prices! Small parking lot in the back but there's also street parking out front as well
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
3.5 stars. Ordered some tacos, burritos and fries to go. Pretty surprised at the tacos. I tried the pork stomach and beef head. Lots of interesting flavor. Fish taco was huge that I couldn't just pick it up and eat. Shrimp burrito was ok. Carne Asada fries had lots of toppings but fries itself wasn't seasoned enough.
google avatar

Hae A.

Yelp
Got the fish burrito. Tortilla was hard. Fish was overfried, overcooked. Overall horrible. I think my kids liked their carne asads tacos. Extra charge for using credit card.

Ed C.

Yelp
The taco plate special is perfectly sized, very yummy (I had carnitas tacos), and a bargain at under $8. The little outdoor veranda is perfect.
google avatar

Joey Y.

Yelp
Awesome little Cantina food spot, if you get the late night munchies. Because so far that I live in So California. There is not too many food joints that's opened 24/7, like this place does. Definitely recommend this place if you are hung over from a party or clubs this place hits the spot.
google avatar

Shawn L.

Yelp
The absolute best everything is at this place they sell fish tacos they sell corny Asada tacos. They sell fish burritos. They are absolutely amazing. This is the standard by which I live by when it comes to eating fish tacos and Kearny Asada tacos absolutely amazing. Shawn Lollis the people want to know

T V.

Yelp
Outdoor seating only, prices are cheaper with cash. Their chili is delicious it'll make your nose run

Marie C.

Yelp
Excellent all meat burrito! Other places have increased prices and decreased sizes of their burritos which really upsets me because I love burritos so much! Came here and pleasantly surprised at the awesome quality or meat, size of burrito AND the cost! $14 for a burrito and drink!? You can't beat that! I'll be coming for here the rest of my life! La Estrella burritos por vida!
google avatar

Nathan H.

Yelp
Snug parking lot but adequate . Nice shady out side concrete tables, this time they were super clean, not always . We had the all meat Carne Asada Burritos, like everything else they serve it was great . $9 each . Pretty fast service, they don't ave to un freeze whatever they're making you . My Sweet from South Central Los Angeles loves this place and asks me to take her here every so often, I think anyone will enjoy this place . -Nate
google avatar

Wes O.

Yelp
The al pastor burrito was really good. Lots of flavor and a decent size. One of the best burritos in the area. However, it was really spicy. Almost too spicy for me to eat. It is the kind of spice level where you use all the napkins to wipe the sweat from your brow. Because of this level of spice, I have to give it 4 stars instead of 5 stars. For others, the spice level might not be a problem and possibly desired.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Opted for the pollo once again; pretty decent; not fatty and plenty of protein serving size-wise. The beans seem to have a bit of chorizo in them so makes the sides tasty.

Alexa Play A.

Yelp
Everything is amazing, tacos are the best and they have lots of flavor! Definitely recommend! Workers are nice. The outside is good to just eat and go. Love this place!

Pedro J.

Yelp
I waz skipped had me waiting 35 minutes I finally got my food after I complained food waz cold never again

Yelp
Please Be Aware That Order Taking Sucks. I Specifically Asked For My Food To Ordered A Certain Way And The Order Was Repeated More Than Once And It Was Still Prepared Incorrectly. I Attempted To Contact The Business And I Spoke With The Female That Took The Order And She Suddenly Couldn't Speak Any English. She Then Passes The Phone To A Gentleman Who Finds The Order Reads What Was Requested Then Proceeds To Repeat The Contents That Are In The Burrito Repeatedly. Never Once Was There An Apology For My Food That I Paid Close To $20.00 Dollars For. If I Verbally Say How I Want My Food Prepare, The Sane Food That I'm PayiNo For The Least You Could Do Is Acknowledge Your Mistake, Apologize And Then Proceed On How The Situation Can Be Rectified. The Wrong Approach Is To Put Yourself On Auto Repeat. Very Poor Customer Service
google avatar

Icaria J.

Yelp
My first stop whenever I visit home. Their salsa is what really makes these tacos. I might be biased because I grew up eating these and they taste like "home" but they do not disappoint
google avatar

Ari H.

Yelp
The carne asada burrito is bomb. The al pastor burrito is also very good but the sauce is very spicy, it's marinated with the red sauce that's given to you with your burritos and tacos. Love that they give lime with burritos because those burritos taste bomb with like squeezed on. Burritos are huge and filling. I usually eat half and save half for next day. I think price of burritos as of recently is around $10 if I remember correctly
google avatar

The One ..

Yelp
En mi opinion, too much cream and not enough cabbage on the fish tacos. Also, the fish was a bit too oily man. I think this isn't the place for fish or shrimp tacos but their carne line asada etc looked really good.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
We have been coming here since 2000 when we lived in Pasadena. If you want authentic street taco style tacos - come here. They have burritos and asada fries as well - but we keep it old school and stick to Al Pastor tacos and if you're adventurous try the Cabeza and Buche. Tacos are small - so you should order at least 4. Unless you order the fish taco - that's the size of two street tacos. Best to pay with cash and avoid the service charge for cards. Small amount of tables out front or take it to go. Each time we pass through Pasadena - we make it a point to come to La Estrella. Don't let it's humble appearance deter you. Food is sooooo good. There's a small parking lot behind too.

Yelp
Best tacos in SG Valley! Great Asada burritos also. They smoke King Taco all day! Their red sauce is money!

Jesus M.

Yelp
I'm disappointed because I also ordered a can of coke and never got it and 2nd I tipped on their tipjar. And I did not like how they wrapped my burrito
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
This is a 5 star place if you want street tacos, quick bite Mexican food that is VERY similar, IMO, to what you will find in Northern Mexico. I have never found a better place in my entire 54 years of living in So-Cal. If you want restaurant service, some kind of dining experience, you are not really in the right place, that's not what they are. They provide tables if you want to eat there. But the place is an ENDLESS LINE of contractors and construction workers getting food for lunch. I have never found a place with good prices that makes such solid, old school, legit street tacos. That's what the place is, it's nothing else and doesn't pretend to be anything else.
google avatar

Maria C.

Yelp
Doesn't look like a good Mexican spot because the parking is hidden and the entrance is on boulevard. They have the best quesadillas with carne asada! The price is not bad for the size of quesadilla they give you! The cashier was friendly and the food was ready pretty quickly! If you are in the go and need to grab some quick food this is a good spot for it! They do have some sitting available if you prefer to eat there!
google avatar

T D.

Yelp
We've been coming here for years now! And it's still delicious. Quick and easy tacos to go or eat there it's basic but delicious. You're not going to find anything fancy but you'll find well done Mexican dishes served up hot and tasty! Service is okay and the location is okay too. But if it's late and your craving some street tacos that taste like Mexico this is where it's at!

Yelp
We came looking for some late night grub, and we were hoping this would be our "go to" spot. It was okay, but I think we'll keep looking: Carne asada tacos: Carne asada was okay, but it tasted like cheap quality meat to me; reminded me of burger patty meat so it wasn't my favorite. Al pastor taco: To be honest, they were so similar that we couldn't tell which was asada and which was al pastor lol. We finally figured it out, but texture and everything was too close to asada to wow us. Carnitas taco: This was a bit dry for me, but my partner liked it. Lengua: This was bomb. Fan favorite between the two of us. Meat was succulent, juicy, and savory. Too bad we only ordered one (we had to fight each other for it!) Bean and cheese burrito: My partner loves his bean and cheese burritos, but only with refried beans. He also asked for them to put some onion/cilantro into the burrito, but they forgot. This came with whole cooked beans and waaaaay too much cheese--it was a little too much and texture was not very appetizing. I think there was rice, but honestly I can't remember with all that cheese... Service was mas o menos as well...the guy who put all our stuff in the bag had oily hands and it got all over the bag handles and the bottom of the bag as well. He also put in some salsas, one of which was not capped properly and spilled all over our food. If I were to come again, I'd go straight for the lengua and nothing else.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service, easy parking, quick, delicious and cheap food...can't ask for more! I got a combo for about 5 bucks! Why the hell would I go to McDonald's when I could have real food for the same price? Lol, ok I do love McDonald's I was just trying to make a point. Outdoor seating and ample parking. I loved the tacos and also tried the fish burrito, it was very good. Definitely recommend this place. Bring your appetite! :)
