La Fogata Mexican Grill

Stopped here on a warm Sunday night with some friends, and enjoyed sitting on the patio to soak up the summer weather, it felt refrigerated inside. The menu had a tempting assortment of margaritas, but our server said a new item was white sangria, so we decided to share a liter of that. It was quite sweet and pretty strong, but delicious. We ordered fresh guacamole, which had a lot of onion in it, but was a nice accompaniment to the fresh crispy chips. My Mom loved her enchiladas, one friend had impressive looking fish tacos, and another had the Baja wrap, because it was unique for a Mexican restaurant. I’m gluten free and was excited to see enchiladas as an option, but they were barely warm by the time I got them, and corn tortillas at that temperature are kind of tough and hard to eat.

Been here plenty of times, unfortunately we have had issues in the past but not anything too serious. This time it was different. After eating most of our meal, we noticed a few pieces of very uncooked chicken 🤢 the manager was nice enough to cover the bill and looked just as shocked as we were about the chicken. Just hoping my family and I don’t get sick from this. The staff is very friendly but I have no intention on going back after today’s incident.

After a short walk along Lake Michigan we decided to have an early dinner at La Fogata. The host sat us out on the outside patio without asking us our preference. Since the patio was right at a very busy intersection, it was not the best atmosphere. However, our server (Patty) was wonderful and we chose to stay at that table. She made sure we knew what the specials were and that it was still Happy Hour. We ordered Elote (mild) and it was so delicious that we ordered another to take home! Whenever we are in the Kenosha area, this restaurant is a must!!

I have eaten here multiple times. Always fantastic food and service. But my last order was delivered by an unrelated party. The food was still hot. And fantastic with poblano sauce. I would recommend trying here because they are fantastic.

I always love coming to La Fogata. The food is full of flavor, I got the Baja wrap this time. The service is always friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. As always, the margaritas were wonderful. Highly recommend for anyone craving delicious Mexican cuisine!

Went for a relaxed anniversary dinner a few days ago and the food was great as always. We really enjoy the authentic style tacos. The main reason for this positive review is the excellent service we observed from our waitress, Gigi. Even though we were a bit before the main dinner rush, she was hustling from table to table as if they were running at full capacity and checked in multiple times during the meal to make sure everything was going well. We were really impressed by her effort and hospitality and are more likely to return next time we are back in town.

Visited for the first time yesterday. My husband had a great experience here in the past & I was craving Mexican food + Wonderful service, waiter was super accommodating to allergens & very friendly and patient. We’ve never had someone care that much about making sure our food is safe. I believe his name was Casey, thanks Casey! + Food was delicious, especially the guac. I had enchiladas & my spouse had tacos. Both were excellent! + Food came out fast, including a refill on our waters & chips. + Atmosphere was nice, we were seated in the indoor patio and the wall of windows were nice to sit by. + Had a vegan and gluten free menu, which I haven’t seen much at other places. Nice to know they care enough to implement that.

Gigi was AMAZING!! So knowledgeable about the whole menu. She helped me order what was gluten free and knew what was safe and what wasn’t. She was so attentive to our party and made sure we had everything we needed. My group had a great time with her and the pretty manager was awesome as well.

Lunch on Saturday 2:00pm. Abby our server excellent and attentive. Chili Relano large, flavorful, delicious! Enchiladas well presented and also excellent. A definite stop in the future!

I want to be nice here. The service was ... Ok and we've lived in Colorado and Texas where Tex mex is a strong term. Intense flavors, cultural meaning. Respect for the food. This is not that. The margaritas are almost entirely simple syrup. Undrinkable sweetness. Where is the tequila? Where is the jalapeno? The mains (cod tacos and vegetarian tacos) were a mix of canned vegetables, tortillas right out of the pack and something no that would have been better as fish and chips. Ambiance was loud. Could not hear our sever, but it didn't really matter. From the looks of it this is the best Mexican Kenosha can muster. Sorry guys, you're missing out.

All of the food was amazing. I haven't been here in a really long time and it wasn't my favorite many years back. But their food and their service was so good... I visited a second time just a week or so later. Its really nice to sit on the patio during the day time as well :) Ps. Their Caesar salad is the best‍

Please was super bisy, service was kind and fast, and the food was good! We really enjoyed our enchiladas with Spanish Roce and Refried Beans!

Stopped by for a birthday lunch. Our server was not only extremely patient but very kind as we took our time figuring out what to order. We got our food pretty quickly and also plenty of boxes to take leftovers home. Unfortunately, I got sick that night though after eating here. I don't think I'll stop coming here because they do more right than wrong but I might avoid the chicken tacos next time. All in all, great service and great vibes.

The shrimp quesadillas special was so good - I loved the seasoning on the shrimp, it was super cheesy, and the chipotle sauce was good. Tacos were pretty good, but the proteins were inconsistent. One of my friends' fish tacos were huge, but another of them was mostly just the batter. Rice and beans were good though!

Our waitress was super sweet and did her best while hopping from one end of the restaurant to the other. Her pleasance could not override the disappointment with our food. The corn chips tasted like the oil had not been changed in a loooong time. The fish tacos hubby had were made with batter fried fish and most of the fish entrees used batter fried fish. Weird. He said they tasted like nothing and my tamales tasted the same. No spices in a Mexican restaurant! What the heck?!? The place is also starting to look a bit run down. We've been coming here occasionally for the past 10 years, but this was definitely our last visit.

My husband and I have been to this restaurant with my daughter and her family. We went by ourselves last week in the afternoon. We had a server name Jason or Justin, who treated us like royalty! If you didn't have an answer for something, he would find out. He had just started working there a week ago. Our food was beyond fresh! I had the chili rellenos and everything was top-notch including the steak. I would have taken a photo of it but I ate alot and ask the servicer to bag it up. I had enough food for the next night for dinner. Everything was still tender even after microwaving! I even had a mango margarita! It was my birthday May 9th.

This place was pretty busy for a Monday night. The food was tasty, and the service was great! I enjoyed seeing the friendly interactions between the staff. I didn't notice any music since I was focused on my conversation with my friend. The atmosphere felt cozy, like chatting with friends at home.

Being from Austin Texas I am writing this from a place with amazing Mexican food. In Austin this restaurant would get 2-3 stars. When in Wisconsin this gets a bump since there is not many choices. The food was good and the service was superior. For what cost us for four with dinner and drinks ($100) we would paid at least that for two at a decent restaurant in Austin. For service this restaurant is fantastic. When we need a Mexican food fix this is our first choice. A plus is that they serve habenero hot sauce upon request!!

La Fogata nails the kind of casual, tasty night out that hits all the right notes. We came for happy hour and were not disappointed--great margaritas (don't skip the peach!) and a 1/2 liter of sangria that was sweet, fruity, and totally refreshing. Chips and salsa showed up quickly--crispy, housemade chips and a smoky salsa with just enough kick to keep things interesting. Our friends shared the chicken fajitas, and they were more than enough for two. The carnes molita had that crispy, cheesy thing going on--basically comfort food with a little flair. But the highlight was definitely the Camarones a la Diabla. Shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the smoky tomato-poblano sauce was packed with flavor. I wouldn't have minded a little more heat, but it was still the standout dish of the night. Service was great--Gigi was friendly, quick to check in, and even gave us a heads-up before happy hour ended. That's the kind of thing that keeps people coming back.

So good-- service, food & drinks. Can't go wrong! Went on Saturday and was lucky enough to get Patty as an our server-- 1st class!

Greeted and seated right away. The resturaunt accommodates plenty of people. Cheerful decorations with Mexican music playing in the background. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive to our table. Food was delicious and big portion.

I am sorry to say that this placehas turned into one of the worst Mexican restaurants I have ever been to. I am not sure how a Mexican restaurant can serve all dishes that are not spicy at all, not even a hint of spice in the salsa. The food had no taste and the chips were fried in dirty oil or at least tasted that way. The only reason I gave it one star was because of my waiter who was very nice. The place seemed that it needs a good wash and scrub. There is outside seating. I won't be coming back to place.

I'm sorry but the tacos wasn't taco ing and I got no buzz from the margarita I ordered. Absolute first time I got no buzz at a Mexican restaurant and for that I could never go back.‍

Service, atmosphere, and food were terrific! First time visitors, our server brought us a variety of salsa's- all of which were delicious. Beef burrito was good, chicken torta was amazing! Homemade guacamole was fresh and delicious. We'll be back!

Our server Missy was excellent. She was very attentive and checked on us frequently to see if anything was needed. I will definitely will be returning.

Walked in and was not welcomed friendly by the host. I asked for a patio seat and he took me immediately there. We ordered drinks (jalapeño margarita and a blue moon) which came in less than 5 minutes. Our waitress Frankie came over the perfect amount of times. Not annoying but not ghosting us either. I ordered the Santa Fe chicken tacos which were bomb. Has guacamole and Fritos. My husband ordered the fish tacos which he said were very good. Overall, great lunch spot. It was $50 Total for our dinners.

May 5th, very festive celebration here today! They embraced the sunny weather to take the party outdoors.

I think the last time I was here I have this place 4 stars. I'm giving them 5 stars this time. Again, I would not describe this as authentic Mexican because it isn't, but it's very good! Whoever is back there making the decisions on how to make it, has done their homework. Very tasty. Liz was our sever and I hope if you visit, you'll get her to serve you. She is great! The restaurant is clean and the seating areas pleasant and well maintained. You will really like this place if you're in the mood for Mexican. Give them a go!!

Margaritas are delicious and dangerous. Food is tasty and innovative. Guacamole is my favorite.

Good is good, always solid! Service is attentive! The restaurant is very noisy - hard to have a conversation at the table, which is a big downside when out with family/friends.

Food is mediocre. I don't understand why they put carrots in the fajitas. Plus, they were greasy and not sizzling. I'm not in any hurry to try this place again.

We like coming to this place. The fajitas and Chile rellenos are usually our go tos but last time I got the birria tacos with extra cheese and they were delish! I had to add a little salt to the meat but the 3 you get with rice and beans is more then plenty. I would like to order that again!!

Why so sweet? We went around 5pm on Saturday Sept 2, 2023 Food: My wife and I both had cheese enchiladas with the red sauce. We were very disappointed. The red sauce was sweet, like real sweet. I should have sent my plate back but did not. Ate a quarter of it and threw my napkin over it. My wife ate half of hers Thankfully they had an AWESOME guacamole. Drink: I had "The Boss". Disappointed with this too. $12 for what tasted like a store bought margarita pre-mix. More sweet than flavorful My wife had the Sangria Swirl (a mix of frozen margarita and frozen sangria) This was really good! Service - EXCELLENT We sat on the enclosed patio. Super loud traffic noise We have been here twice before over the last 2 years - and had great meals and much better margaritas- not sure what happened last night

Food was acceptable. But even when paying cash, and picking up at the counter, there was a 3% surcharge added to my bill. When I asked the order taker at the counter what it was for, she said "that's my tip". Well, I always thought that a tip was supposed to be at the discretion of the customer. A poor business practice that's a real turn off.

I had lunch here yesterday. It was great and the service was excellent. I do wish there was more options on the GF menu. But I really enjoyed what I had.

I've never had a bad experience at La Fogata. They are the quickest for service, they have the best barbacoa tacos around, the drinks are amazing and the salsa options, specifically the chili De ablo salsa is the best! The sunroom area is great. I wish they had this right on the lake and had an outdoor seating area as well as more space. They do even more business. Just love this place overall!

Great place to grab dinner in Kenosha ! The staff is super funny and nice and the atmosphere is amazing very good place to go

Stopped in here for a late lunch because my friend and I were in a mood for Mexican tacos. I have to say that this place was a very pleasant find! Great food, drinks and service. Pretty picky about Mexican tacos so ordered the al pastor and it was spot on (avocado was a nice touch but not necessary). Only suggestion is to include the limes or ask patrons if they want limes - have to put lime juice on tacos! Cheese dip was awesome too. Beer was nice and cold. Highly recommend this place to anyone who's nearby.

Delicious Mexican option near the lake in Kenosha! We were recommended to go to this place and we were not disappointed! We came on a weeknight around 7pm. We had a short 5 minute wait due to capacity restrictions but it went by quickly. Everyone was very friendly and prompt with the service. I had a yummy delicious frozen Strawberry margarita that was great (and I have very high standards with these!). The chips and salsa were good, also. Due to COVID, the menu is now viewed on your phone with a scannable QR code, which made it a little difficult for the first time diner, but we made it through. My SO had the burrito de alhambre and I had a combination platter with a chimi, enchilada, and taco. All were great! If looking for good mexican option in the Kenosha area, definitely give this place a try! Enjoy!

Never disappointed, I love their Taco Truck Fish Tacos . Their tamales and margaritas are also good. Always have had great friendly service.

A little corporate in menu and pricing. Still, staff has been consistently friendly and food has been well-prepared. Specials in the bar are fun.

A nice Yelp find while traveling through Kenosha. There's a heated indoor patio area with window sliders for those two weeks of Wisconsin summer. The standard basket of complimentary chips and salsa. Unlike most other Mexican themed restaurants La Fogata offers small samplings of their multiple salsa flavors with the chip basket. Our waiter (quite muscular dude) was very attentive throughout our meal. He had a great attitude about doing what's right by the customer. It's really employees like him that lead to return customers & positive opinions of an establishment. I had the steak tacos authentic style (cilantro & onion). Very large tender pieces of steak in the tacos. La Fogata offers the standard rice & beans with their entrees, but also offers a standard seasoned fries offering instead. Being in the boat of being someone that doesn't care for beans the spiced fries option is a nice alternative way to go. La Fogata is a solid dining option located a convenient one block off the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Stopped by for an afternoon margarita on 10/27. Ended up having two! We sat at the bar and ended up watching them prepare fresh lime juice for their cocktails. The juicer was so awesome that we ordered one off amazon while we finished our lunch. So we are spending the weekend in Kenosha and decided that it was so good we should come back again today. We had the black bean and corn guacamole today, it was great. I hope we get the chance to visit here again someday Our 3rd trip to the area brought us back. We again sat at the bar for the Fresh margaritas and guacamole. This time we also enjoyed the Naked burrito with carnitas. This has become oneof our must go to places when we are in the area. Nikki at the bar is great and has remembered us every time that we have been here. The service has always been great, even when they are slammed with 30 people on a Friday lunch.

It's very authentic tasting Mexican food ! It was very good I would advise anyone to go here we still have to try their fried ice cream . Clean Bathrooms (which is very important to me ) and kind servers.

I love this place. The food is consistently wonderful. My favorite dish is the pollo gordo, just the right amount of spice. The guacamole and tacos are my wife's choice. The margaritas are tasty. We go back often.

Well, Kenosha shocks me again with a great place to eat! La Fogata is legit, authentic Mexican! Had the carne asada fajitas and they were great failing short in that the plate is small for the $, but the flavor Is all there! While the staff was really friendly very and fast, they are bit in inattentive at the bar having to be reminded and prompted for the basics. In their defense, the bar is ridiculously small and poorly designed for a Mexican restaurant that puts out that many drinks. Lots of bar tender fails because of the bumps and knocks. Impossible to be effective behind that bar! Real black eye here is sitting at the bar, otherwise it would be a 5 star eat!

I'm not typically a fan of Mexican food, I'm just not. But I went to this restaurant with some friends and never looked back. The food is SO FRESH! Seriously, it feels like the veggies just came out of the garden. I liked it so much that I went back with my family (several of whom are very picky) and they loved the food as well.

I had the beef birria tacos. Oh my lanta they were sooooo amazing. My waitress was patient with me and my family and it seems so authentic. Its a good time but also family friendly. Will def go again

In town for work so a friend and I had dinner here Friday night. We started with the house margaritas, which were delicious. While bringing out our food, they accidentally dropped my friend's plate. They came to the table to apologize and let us know it would take a bit longer for his plate to come out. That wasn't a problem at all. Accidents happen. Plus, we were enjoying conversation and drinks in the meantime. At the end of our meal (which was amazing), the waitress brought us the bill and stated that the manager wanted to offer us the dessert of our choice on the house. I don't usually leave reviews, but this experience warranted one. Incredible food and impeccable service!!!!

If you want a nice night out for margs and tacos this is a great spot. A little pricey but it does the job! Service is always good.

We have been here several times over the years and never had a bad experience. During lockdown we ordered several meals for an event and they got every meal exactly how we ordered it!! All the food is fresh, hot and flavorful. You will NOT be disappointed!

Can't believe how overrated this place is. Got a lot of recommendations to give this a try and couldn't have been more underwhelmed. Everything, from the drinks down to the salsa, was just so generic and basic. So much better options for Mexican food in Kenosha.

We came back here for lunch again and I had a couple of margaritas to start. Plus the chips and salsa. (I am not driving of course) I had the Taco lunch which was perfect. 3 Tacos with re fried beans and rice came with it. Donnie was our waiter and he was just great. In all, I had the perfect lunch. Thank you La Fogata. As for parking, a huge lot so I don't see any problem here. As for kids, I seen 3 families here with kids and no problems.

Awesome drinks! They advertise killer margaritas, and the slogan is true. The food is really good as well. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are a good size. If you come on a busy night, you may have to wait a bit. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely stop by.
