Yeah, I can't believe it either. A strip mall joint serving up some amazing, local Mexican food?! It's a small place, just a few tables inside, but when you call for takeout, it's ready in the 10 minutes I get there. That's just enough time for me to grab a Jarritos Tamarindo Mexican soda from the cooler. The owner was packing up my food so I didn't stop to check it.
We ordered queso, chips & salsa and guacamole. I had the Camarones a la diabla (spicy shrimp) that came with 3 handmade flour tortillas, rice and lettuce with pico. My hubby ordered the build your own burrito with grilled shrimp, rice, beans, fully loaded with extra sour cream.
I raced home to unload two bags of chips, two containers of homemade salsa, guacamole and everything else. The shrimp are not small and my hubby couldn't finish one half of the burrito. We determined we could've split either dish but equally determined to polish it off. I opened my container up. Totally delighted as the shrimp were swimming in a promising spicy sauce - as advertised - and removed all the tails.
In retrospect, we did not need to order salsa or guac. I shoved that in the fridge for a snack later. We both like spice and the diabla dish did not disappoint. I ended up eating all 3 tortillas. Loaded with shrimp, rice and the lettuce mix to cool things off. The rice is delicious on it's own but I did not waste any sauce.
It is considerably cheaper than going out to a restaurant and adding margaritas to the mix! I can't wait to try the weekend options for posole but it will be hard to pass up the diabla for sure. Well, what are you waiting for? Go there. Get some. Life is too short to eat boring food!
