Where to Eat After Midnight Around Boston

"From pupusas and tacos to platters of marinated chicken, steak, and beef liver, East Boston’s La Hacienda serves some irresistible Mexican and Salvadoran specialties until 2 a.m. nightly (an Everett location closes at 1 a.m.). The drink menu includes a full slate of margarita flavors, too." - Eater Staff

The Best Restaurants in East Boston

"La Hacienda, located right in the center of always busy Meridian Street, serves a variety of Mexican and Salvadoran dishes. Some standouts include the pupusas, weekend soups like sopa de mondongo, and the fajitas - a surprise to us since we normally find the sizzling platters to be rather bland at other spots. And if you’re concerned about takeout, don’t be - everything, including the fajitas, holds up well in to-go boxes." - joel ang

La Hacienda - Review - East Boston - Boston - The Infatuation

"La Hacienda, located right in the center of always busy Meridian Street, serves a variety of Mexican and Salvadoran dishes. It’s not often that we rave about fajitas (we generally find them to be rather bland), but the ones here are really good. If you’re here on the weekend, don’t miss out on a bowl of homemade soup - we’re fans of the sopa de mondongo." - Joel Ang

This is not a fancy place but the atmosphere is families enjoying a great meal. The food was delicious and presented in generous portions. There is a large parking lot nearby so finding parking was not a problem. If you love soccer ( football) this is a very lively place for watching, cheering, and depending, crying!! Great for families too!

Run don't walk! The food here is amazing and the nachos are to die for!!!!. The service is great, interior is clean. My on only regret is that I don't live in Boston. I visited this restaurant while working in the area. Thus is a goto for sure each time I visit.

It’s was amazing food is yummy, service is very high, place was busy at the time I was there but I not surprised why, but still you was welcome

Google
My wife and I visited here earlier this week with our adult daughter and we all had tremendous meals. We sat outside which is actually behind the restaurant and means we had to walk into the restaurant from Meridian street, alert them we are going to sit outside, then we had to circle around the corner to Liverpool street to get to the outdoor tables. But that was the only rocky part of our visit. The pupusa was incredible. My burrito may have been one of the best things I've ever eaten. My wife and daughter both ordered the Plato Montanero and they loved it. The food prices were reasonable and the portions were large, so we all had leftovers to take home. None of us were drinking alcohol so that kept our bill down considerably. But we didn't need drinks to make us happy because the food was so unbelievably good.

Definitely will be back with more of an appetite next time :) Great service and apps.

Yelp
Recientemente visite este lugar, buenas atenciones y la comida excelente, un abiente muy familiar, con su karaoke, mi esposa y yo la pasamos de maravilla. 10 estrelleas.

Yelp
It is not a fancy place but you get your money's worth and it is absolutely delicious. It is authentic Mexican and Salvadorian restaurant but my go -to dish is their Plato Montañero which is a Colombian dish. How wrong can you go for $22 getting a perfectly cooked grilled steak, fried egg, perfectly cooked chicharrón (pork rind), sweet plantains, rice, beans, a house salad and tortillas. Margaritas are delicious and strong. If you happen to go on a Friday you will also get the special treat of a mariachi. Make a reservation and you will be seated right away. Lines can get long as it is a popular place so avoid the wait and plan ahead.

Yelp
Food was ok. I had the beef short ribs. It was good, the refried beans was not so good. The service could be better. We waited over 30 mins to get some drinks we ordered. We had to re ask. At that point I was ready to get the check. For 12a it was pretty lit. Bunch of ppl were in there. Its smooth, id eat there again.

Yelp
Solid spot with excellent food. Came here on a Saturday night and it surprisingly wasnt too packed. They had a DJ playing music which was nice, made the vibes great. I've heard that they sometimes have live music as well. My boyfriend and I got the Los Hermanos margaritas which were excellent, one of the best margaritas I've had. We also shared pupusas for our appitizers. Got a queso, queso y loroco, and a queso y chicharron. I really liked them all, fresh and cooked well. For my entree I got the pollo bravo with tortillas, rice, and salad. The sauce was so tasty and the dish was piping hot! The portion was also huge so I had leftovers. My boyfriend got the carne asada which he enjoyed as well. Service was good but we waited for a little while at the beginning before anyone came over. There was a large party seated next to us so we were understanding about it. Check this place out for a great meal and a good time!

Yelp
Incredible value meal with decent service and great food! We came here on a weekday evening for dinner and the place was pretty empty. Given the nice weather, we opted to sit outside, however be warned that if you do the same, you end up having to go all the way around to the main entrance if you ever want to go inside to use the restroom or wash your hands. If I had known that beforehand, I probably would've preferred to sit inside. Being outside also made it super hard to flag our server down - we were the only table and so she was only there when giving us food basically, otherwise it was almost impossible. I had to go around to the front eventually to pay given how inattentive they were. The menu has a great selection of various dishes and everything is reasonably priced. The margaritas are huge - definitely a must get! Their apps are nice and great for sharing while their entrees are super easy to share and tasty. I would recommend the fried yucca for sure and the fajitas were great. Meat was cooked well and super tender. I can't wait to come back one day to try some of their other great menu items. Thanks, La Hacienda!

Yelp
I ordered take out for 6 pupusas. I said it to the girl in english and spanish. I get there and she only put in 1 item of pupusa. Then, they corrected it and added 5 more which was not a big deal, not a long wait. I get my bill and they added a "take out fee" and gratuities??? I never heard of a take out gratuity. In addition, they gave me sooooo little tomato sauce with 6 pupusas, NO utensils, no napkins. So whats the gratuity for???

Yelp
OH MY GAWD ! Not your typical meh fajitas, steak cooked to order, fabulous tortillas and delish sides, everything fresh and tasty. Went for breakfast the next day too, had the Verde Chiquilla's OUTSTANDING! My friend introduced me to the expresso martini as well, very nice! All great including the friendly service
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
I had the pork tacos which I thought were incredibly delicious some of the best tacos I've had since I came back from California . Service was great, they're open very late for food service. My friend had a burger and fries which he also loved. It's a thumbs up for me
google avatar

Michele M.

Yelp
The food is so good here! A local and family-run business. We got oysters, tacos, pupusas, and guacamole. The guac was very fresh and had a bright green color. The oysters were more on the briny side. The tacos stole the show. They have a red spicy sauce and it's really spicy so use it sparingly. The service was fast and they always checked in if we needed anything else. The parking is plentiful on the streets or around the parks. They also have live music on Fridays starting at 7:30pm.

Yelp
First off, great service. We were seated right away. Servers were very prompt and very polite. Took our order right away. Had the nachos which were different but very delicious. Then the surf and turf and I had the veggie burrito. Both were so fresh and tasty. Loved that the restaurant had soccer on the tvs. A very welcoming restaurant in the neighborhoods of East Boston. If you like food from Latin America, try La Hacienda out.
google avatar

Simone P.

Yelp
Probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in Boston! I got the surf and turf and it was delicious. The steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection. I ordered the special drink which was an hibiscus mezcalita and may be one of my favorite cocktails I've had recently. I highly recommend this place for their food and drink, as well as service!

Yelp
Looking for a late night meal? This is the place to visit close to Logan. The chips and salsa was amazing, the fajita was excellent, the environment was lively and the service was great. Will go back soon
google avatar

Yelp
really delicious food. generous portions. free chips and salsa enjoyed my smoothie, on the sweet side but good. enchilladas were tasty. see photos service wasn't exceptional but we were also the only gringos there.

Yelp
I'm Salvadoran so mainly commenting on the pupusas. My mom does make the best pupusas so I am 100% biased. In terms of Salvi food in the US, Boston Salvi food doesn't comes close to LA Salvi food. That said, I continue to hunt down the best pupusas in Boston. It feels like the pupusa quality went down since I was last here. They still under pickle the curtido (why tho?). The pupusas revueltas I had were very bland. It's as if they used ground chicharron with little seasoning. I would give these pupusas a C grade (they used to be a B). Yuca frita was delicious. Not all places can handle this starch, but no complaints about the yuca here. Tamarindo was good. Brown horchata (so you know it's the Salvi type) was good, but slightly oversweetened for my taste. Staff is always very friendly.
google avatar

Francesca L.

Yelp
Gigantic drinks (photo includes my fist for reference) and really large portion sizes. Everything was super flavorful, came out quickly, you know that a place is good when they're packed at 3 o'clock on a Saturday and everyone's eating dinner. This is what we found here- it's a go to in the area for a reason. Room for big groups, intimate for small parties, and overall a really fun dining experience

Yelp
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic food and service at a great price. Marachi nights ( Fridays) are also fun if that's your thing

Yelp
La Hacienda is an authentic Mexican restaurant in Boston that serves Mexican as well as Salvadorian menu. We started with Oaxacan (homemade with tamarind juice) and Mojito Cuban. Both the cocktails were super delicious and refreshing. For appetizer we had the fresh Guac and salsa with chips and buffalo wings (a must try). Super combo fajita were perfect for two people to share. Marinated Steak, Chicken, and Shrimp, grilled and seasoned to perfection. Served over grilled onions and peppers, with a side order of flour tortillas, rice and beans. Toppings include lettuce, fresh guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream, and cheese. Generous quantity, super delicious food with friendly service. A must try if you are in the area and you are looking for some delicious food, relaxing atmosphere and great vibe!

Yelp
I broke my self-imposed rule of not eating Mexican food north and east of where I live in the Dallas area and surprisingly was not disappointed. On a spice scale of 0-10 the salsa scored a -1. However, the flavor was good and there was a jar of spiced oil on the table that made it acceptable. The guacamole was delicious. As good as you can get in Texas. Plus, the potion size was amazing for $10.50. We ordered the Molcajete and enjoyed every bite of what we could finish. I highly recommend La Hacienda. However, skip the beans. They did disappoint.
google avatar

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Ordered the fajitas. It looked delicious except there was a long hair in my food so their sanitary practices may be questionable

Jimena M.

Yelp
The food at La Hacienda has always been one of my favorites in the Boston area. We got the guacamole with chicharron, the food here never disappoints. The margaritas are the best in the area. Ceci at the bar is always so attentive and pleasant

Welisha D.

Yelp
The service was amazing and the drinks got there quickly, I loved how decorated the place was, everyone was friendly and the food was great, the music in the background made this a trip to remember I will be coming back soon!!!

Yelp
A friend from Winthrop recommended this place. We made our way across town, through the tunnel and found this sleepy secret serving up Central American fare. First impression - understated, loud but, spacious. This was during a weekend brunch...not Thurs, Fri or Sat night...where it can be a zoo, but with music - even louder. Menu extensive as salsa and chips arrive...unexpected...nice. Attentive service, comfortable space, savory aromas float by from the busy kitchen and the orders begin Guacamole, FRESH, Taco combo...with rice and black beans and a salad, FRESH, Baha Fish tacos with fresh ceviché ... and of course drinks - just like Mexico except larger and pricier! If we lived closer than 40 minutes, we'd be regulars.

Yelp
Really had a fabulous meal. Enjoy Mexican shrimp cocktail a lot. I found the environment to be called and loud.

Veronica H.

Yelp
Great place the food is always delicious and fresh, the staff is very attentive and friendly, the drinks are always on point, good music too!!!

Yelp
Service was spot on and very friendly. The food was super! Shrimp diablo was a perfectly seasoned tomato stew with plump fresh shrimp and plenty of them! Perfecto Margarita too!! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Absolutely PHENOMENAL!! The Food is hands down the best! I've never had a better QUALITY chorizo. Portion size- 10/10! They serve food after 10pm- a HUGE win! Service was top-tier, even if the waitress was busy, other staff- including the owner stepped in to help. Ambiance was lively and entertaining, it wasn't too dimly lit or bright This place is a jem!!

Yelp
Overall rating: 3.5 stars Food: we got nachos and 2 drinks Texture: they bring out complimentary chips and salsa which is great but usually a standard for mexican and latino restaurants Pricing: $50 for the plate of nachos and 2 drinks not a bad deal! Ambiance: lively, loud, festive there is a juke box where we can choose to play a song (it's in the corner and surrounded by neon lights) Seating & Parking: plenty of seating by the bar, dining room to the right, and the patio in the back Service: kind friendly spanish women who will make you laugh and smile Music: spanish and latin music Bathrooms: men's bathroom is by the bar to the left of the entrance, the family is in the middle between the bar and dining room behind the workers booth, and the women's is in the dining room. Final comments: great spot with standard mexican food!

Yelp
This is my first time trying this restaurant per my friends recommendation. We were seated right away on a Sunday morning. Service was friendly and quick to take our order. For drinks we got a strawberry margarita, espresso martini and mojito. Each of us enjoyed our drinks and were fairly priced at about $11 per. Our appetizers consisted of sweet plantains, fried yuca with chicharron and a few beans and cheese pupusas. The sweet plantains were good and served with a cream to dip in that was on the more viscous side. I loved the fried yuca as they were cooked all the way through and flakey. Chicharron was also great being fresh from the fryer. The sides of cabbage and and red sauce were perfect to balance the heaviness of the oil. The pupusas were also good, slightly on the thin side from what I'm used to but the taste is still there. Usually I get the pork and cheese but these also satisfied my craving as I just wanted to try them out. Our entrées were the enchiladas, huevos rancheros and a cow tongue burrito. Enchiladas and rice were good served with some lettuce, sour cream and pico de Gallo to balance it out. My friend enjoyed her huevos rancheros and was surprised to have been served with a green sauce. I liked my burrito as the cow tongue was tender however it did come with more guacamole than expected. Personally would have preferred more rice lettuce to be included. Overall great experience and would love to come to try more items from their menu.

Yelp
La Hacienda is without any doubt my favorite restaurant in Boston area! I love their Margaritas and food! And I will be forever grateful to my El Salvadorian friend who introduced me to pupusas... Pupusas and cheese nachos with extra jalapenos in La Hacienda... Best thing ever! It's been like yesterday we used to come every Tuesday night and listen to local karaoke tries while having giant glasses of Margaritas, munching on free chips with salsa and having a shared dinner.. I hope the karaoke nights are still rolling with the original host! Always happy to come back! Absolutely recommend to everyone...

Pamela A.

Yelp
The music was so loud you could not hear each other's conversations and could not hear the server and she couldn't hear us to take our order. The wooden chairs were horrible uncomfortable and the food was just ok. My margarita was just ok not great. I would not recommend this restaurant and I will not go there again.
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
My go to place if I'm having a craving for tacos. I always pass by this place and have only recently tried their food. I've gotten take out many times since then. I have only dined in once and it was packed! My friend and I stopped by around 10pm on a Saturday night and there was about a 30-45 minute wait. The staff weren't as attentive when we dined in, but it was a busy night. I highly recommend the Baja Fish Tacos and the Ceviche. I also love the mojitos here! The passion fruit one is great and pretty strong.
google avatar

Frances L.

Yelp
La Hacienda is a great spot for Mexican, Colombian and Salvadorean food! They have a pretty spacious indoor dining area with a full size bar, and overall it's a pretty lively ambience. We came on a Monday night around 7:30pm and there was no wait. They have a super extensive menu with most entrees being very meat or fish centric. We got free chips and salsa pretty immediately after being seated, which was great! We ordered fried plantains, guacamole, a Salvadorean enchilada, beef short rib steak, and a pupusa. The food came out pretty slowly, maybe 30-40 minutes after we ordered. They seemed super busy for a weeknight. Overall, the food was really good though! I thought the guac was pretty overpriced ($8.50) for the size we got but other than that, portions and quality were great.
google avatar

Noel P.

Yelp
My fav local Mexican spot in Eastie, strong margaritas, well seasoned / flavorful food & consistent service & quality. I'm a local regular visitor! The garlic shrimp is always great. This is a repeat spot!
google avatar

Tuli S.

Yelp
Worth the hike to East Boston! We came for lunch and had the shrimp ($15) and plato montanero ($18).Both were delicious and the plato was enough food for 2 people so we took some home for later. The pork was super crispy and delicious! The plato is a great dish to share if you want a little taste of everything. The shrimp dish was also great and came with lots of shrimp so I wasn't too miffed about sharing. We also ordered micheladas and they were awesome! Not too spicy and cheap! It was a little over $13 for two.
google avatar

Christina A.

Yelp
I truly cannot say enough good things about this spot. The service was excellent and the servers were so friendly. The ambiance was family friendly and casual, with lots of table space and a full bar. And the food... wow. Everything we had was so good and so fresh, I can't recommend this spot enough. I devoured the guac in literally 2 minutes flat, the aqua Chile packed a punch but was so fresh and vibrant and the coconut margarita will be something I talk about for a long time. Please do yourself a favor and check this spot out
google avatar

Areeba Z.

Yelp
My friend and I were in East Boston looking for food. We came across this place which seemed to have decent reviews so we decided to check it out. This place was packed! Families, couples, friends, individuals - this place caters to people in all life stages! The music was a little loud but it went with the party-vibe. You know it's authentic when you get fresh tortilla chips and salsa on the house! We decided to get some drinks, apps and main. Pretty much everyone at the restaurant either had margaritas. We started off with Pupusas and sweet plantains. The sweet plantains were a little overdone but the Pupusa was on point! Both came with delicious dips. For my main I got shrimp fajitas and my friend got chicken Chilaquiles. The serving size was ginormous (which is always appreciated)! Definitely swing by this place. Great food, drinks and a taste of pre-covid ambience.
google avatar

Lucinda A.

Yelp
I prefer this location than Everett. There kitchen does not close until 12:30am. I went here with my friend and they give you complimentary chips and salsa. The chips are homemade and delivered to your table warm. I want to add that the salsa is also definitely homemade. It has a minor level of spice but it's delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
We came here after hearing such good things + corroborating word of mouth with both Yelp & Google reviews, which is highly rated across the board. We ordered pupusas, a quesadilla, & a burrito. First, the order was wrong (we got an extra item) and I couldn't believe the total being over $40; it seemed really expensive for what we ordered, even removing the extra item. Pupusas were bland with skimpy filling, not like the ones we would buy from Salvadorian street vendors/trucks we grew up around. The quesadilla was filled with cheese and (wait for it)..... broccoli and squash. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it was a vegetarian quesadilla, so I get that it's not "traditional", but the menu listed mushrooms, peppers, onions, etc. for the filling; I was extremely disappointed to think that broccoli & squash was considered a reasonable substitute. The steak burrito was mediocre. We ended up making food at home since we were still hungry afterward. I have never done this before in my life, but I actually ended up asking for a partial refund because we were both so disappointed in the food (and we only took a few bites before throwing it out). It's a shame, because we were really hoping to find an authentic spot, but unfortunately were disappointed :(

Yelp
La Hacienda is one of my favorite restaurants in East Boston. After one visit here you'll realize why it's so popular. The food is consistently good and the staff are always friendly and nice. It's divided into two rooms, a bar area with a few small tables when you walk in and a larger dining room area. Their more busy times are during the weekend. The bar area can get crowded during Friday and Saturday nights. Weekday lunch is a less crowded time. My favorite dish is the taco combo platter which comes with a side of beans, rice and a little salad. The portions are decent and the prices are very reasonable. If you decide to make the visit, I recommend taking the T. There is very little street parking near the restaurant and it's a short walk from the Maverick station.
google avatar

Polina T.

Yelp
This place is my go-to whenever I'm visiting my friend in Eastie. Portions are incredibly generous, price is very reasonable, and they have a full-service bar. Whether brunch, lunch, or dinner, they've never let me down. Their aguachile comes with a heaping amount of shrimp and their burrito is huuge. Service has always been excellent, although there's occasional language barriers since I don't speak Spanish. In the summers, they also have outdoor seating. They also have a DJ at night and the place turns into more of a club-vibe. Overall, La Hacienda is always a solid choice.

Lance H.

Yelp
Plantains and pupusas tasted authentic and service was great! Also loved that there were lots of TVs to watch the game while eating dinner with the guys.
google avatar

Lourdes J.

Yelp
To start off we had the BEST chicken nachos I've ever had. Every single nacho had all the toppings, not one chip left behind! Super flavorful and cheesy just the way it should be. The sides of guac and sour cream were great dipping buddies! For entrees there was the steak quesadilla that was great! Seasoned steak, so much cheese, onion and peppers all together made the a great bite! Last, but certainly not least was the Combo Fajitas with Steak and Shrimp. And wow! Definitely something worth going back for! The steak and shrimp were packed with flavor, juicy and tender. The dish also comes with a side of (super soft) homemade tortillas, rice and beans, and pico de gallo!

Yelp
The brunch is so good and great atmosphere .. we got the tacos it was more than enough it was quick convenient. good service
google avatar

Charlene E.

Yelp
Tried pupusas for the first time here, I had no clue what they were but they were really good! I also had their shrimp tacos and I'm not a big taco person so my review may not be accurate. I thought they were ok, like a 6/10, but with the spicy saucy (not sure of the name), it was an 8.5/10. I ordered 4 tacos and was full after the second taco so beware of how many you order. I also had a mango margarita which was pretty tasty! It's far from me but I'd return if I was in the neighborhood. Side note: a physical fight broke out between an employee and a drunk customer which startled me because it happened 2 feet away from me. That was not pleasant to see.
google avatar

Yelp
Tacos and Pupusas are great. It is kinda loud however if you are with a group you won't notice. Service has been good recently.

Alberto C.

Yelp
Food is good, service always great and the ambiance is awesome. My favorite place to go any day.

Yelp
Me and my brother checked out la hacienda in east Boston for drinks and had the pleasure to be served by the lovely zulmary behind the bar. Service was excellent as well as food and drinks. I would 100% recommend everyone to check out this place !

Yelp
Casual local restaurant and bar for authentic Mexican and Salvadorian food. The specialty margaritas and cocktails were delicious and strong. Love the free chips and salsa. The food comes in huge portions. I ordered the higado encebollado and it was delicious. Did note there weren't many vegetarian options though the staff was great all around and I'm sure they could assist with options.
