The location and beach view is amazing The staff was nice. I planned a little one night get away for family from out of state that just graduated High School. We walked in the early evening along the beach path. My girls were on the swings adjacent to the hotel and a man came up to us and was obviously on a substance or perhaps mental illness. Cursing and yelling profanity.(saying he was Jesus, and asking the girls inappropriate questions!) A little scary and concerning. We reported the incident to the hotel front desk. Then we go back up to the room: the girls were still a little shook up then a drunk man knocks on their door thinking it was his friends room: my daughter and I asked him to leave: ( we had connecting rooms ) I know we can't control people's behavior but it was just odd and bazar. I've stayed here before and it was perfect. This time not so much. We go to breakfast the next morning. Yes it was after 11 am so we missed breakfast. We asked for a simple Danish and the server says "we have no Danish" Danish is like bread it's in a package - take it out heat it up and done. Maybe none of this is a big deal but for the amount of money it costs to stay here maybe things like this shouldn't happen- danish no big deal but being uneasy at a hotel stay was strange: again staff is nice and the location and view is amazing- I'd appreciate a response. Thank you.

In January I called this hotel to book two rooms for a family vacation in July…that’s 7 months in advance. My one and only request was that our two rooms be adjoining, so my wife and I could be close to our three kids who are all under 10 years old. The hotel employee I spoke to in January was very accommodating, ASSURING me adjoining rooms would be secured.||Today we checked in, only to be told our request for adjoining rooms was not met. The explanation? A deluge of polite nonsense too convoluted to recount. Translation: “you’re less important than other guests.” The manager took zero accountability for the hotel’s error, offering to waive the resort fee out of “good will.” Infuriating. The result? My wife and I must now spend our long awaited summer vacation in separate rooms so our kids have appropriate supervision. This is not the trip we planned 7 months in advance! ||Will we live? Sure. But here’s the thing. You only get so many summer trips as a young family. When the hotel royally botches your reservation so you’re not able to maximize your quality time together, something sacred is lost. Deeply disappointing. ||The definition of integrity = your actions match up to your words. By this definition, the La Jolla Shores Hotel lacks integrity.

We loved it here. Perfect location. Lots of activities for little ones. Beach was fantastic, and right outside the hotel. Shores restaurant was great, and we walked to several other restaurants close by. Only complaint was a few items in our room not working, but service fixed them same day so no big deal. Would definitely stay here again.

First time visiting the San Diego area and wanted to make sure that we stayed near or by the beach so that our toddler had quick access to the beach. This was the place! It's a bit pricey during the peak season, but it was well worth it. Our room was clean, large, and in working order. The large patio doors let in a lot of sunlight and ocean breeze so it kept the room nice and cool when we were in the room. The hotel is right on the beach, separated by a walkway. It was easy to get to and from the beach from the hotel because of how convenient the location was. The hotel also has areas for you to rinse off the sand when you're coming back in. The amenities are plentiful. We didn't take advantage of the beach services, which are included in the resort fee, but I wish we had! If only we had more time. I would definitely recommend this place for families especially those with younger kids.

We love this hotel and return at least once a year. This year, we stayed in the oceanfront king room with kitchenette and it was perfect. The rest of the family stayed in a garden room. Our kids are all grown now and have significant others, so we needed to expand. We had plenty of space to hang out, relax, and take in the beautiful ocean views. The kitchenette was fabulous. It had everything we needed to cook full meals, which was really convenient. ||The best part is this hotel's proximity to the beach. It is literally steps aways from the sand. The hotel also includes a beach service that sets up chairs and umbrellas for your family. We absolutely LOVE that service.

We just stayed July 7, 2025. We tried to check in early and were told we needed to wait for our room to be ready. That's fine, we sat and waited meanwhile several people were checking in after us and were given their keys immediately 🤔 When we were leaving I noticed a stain on our sheets, not sure what it was but it was either blood or 💩. I reported it when I checked out and was told...So sorry about that we'll make sure they toss them. Really, that's it 🤔. They don't check on the tub drains because ours was partially plugged and slow to drain. I didn't report it and honestly I shouldn't have to. It's a great location but for what we paid it's not 5* service and it really should be.

Thought we were going to save money staying here instead of our usual hotel Del Coronado. 🏖️ Big mistake you’re not going SAVE anything, And the experience will be SUBPAR. Be sure to check your folio. Double charge for pet fees $ 150 , And get ready to be taxed on those pet fees as well. You’ll also see multiple charges for the same California tourism fees, and the same San Diego marketing fees. The mistakes are never in favor of the guests 🤔 Why this hotel 🏨 is a no 🚫go: The room was outdated The elevator smelled like urine 🚽 Ping-pong balls on the grounds, which are a tripping hazard ⚠️ The walls are paper, thin and The room next-door had the TV 📺 going on all day and night, it was unoccupied. Terrible night sleep. Got a first floor ocean 🌊 view room, that turned out to be a first floor hedge view room. The hedges were not trimmed so that you could see the ocean, instead you saw a green hedge. I paid extra for that? 💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸 Over $1,000 for one night in the lousy room.

Google
Hotel outrageously priced for age and condition. Excellent personnel and service staff. Good location. However parking is a PROBLEM. We paid in advance for parking and were not given a space on our last night. Had to park several blocks down the street with no security. We were refunded for that night but gross inconvenience with two toddlers. Would not stay here again.

Yelp
My favorite beach! If you are in Southern Calif end a this is a top 10 beach. Perfect for the family. We go there to paddle board, surf, and swim. Easy access to food for lunch if you want to grab a bit to each and then go back to the beach. All within walking distance. It's a spot I feel comfortable reading when I'm done with by boarding which the kids play all around me. Speaking of boarding, you can rent boards or bring your own. Paddle into some caves or around the area. You will see divers and swimmers all around. It's just lovely.

Yelp
My family and I took a walk to the beach this morning and decided to pop in for some quick breakfast. The dining area was very nice and clean. Service was fast as well. I can't speak for the rest of the menu, but the breakfast left a lot to be desired. I got the two egg special with sunny side up eggs, bacon, toast, and home fries. The bacon was charred and cold. The home fries were under seasoned. It's not the worst hotel breakfast I've had, but I'm sure there are better and cheaper spots nearby.

Yelp
We have stayed here several times over the last few years. There was a special through TraveZoo and we thought we would take advantage of it for a little staycation. While, this special waived the resort fee it did not waive the parking fee. As with most hotels today that fee is high, but since you were parked right at the beach, it did not seem excessive for underground parking. All of the employees we came into contact with were very friendly, engaging and welcoming. The room we stayed in, which they listed as a garden view room, was good size but very dated. Appliances in the bathroom were old. The toilet was a very old style and low. Everything was clean and functional. Since it is a dated facility it's very loud and we could hear the individuals staying on either side of us and anyone that walked the hallways or were in the garden area. We went and enjoyed their happy hour in the bar and had a very nice cocktail for a reasonable price. They offer a very nice feature of a shuttle to take you anywhere within a 5 mile radius of the hotel. There are a lot of sightseeing opportunities within that 5 mile radius, including the La Jolla Cove and the Birch aquarium. Since they only have one shuttle a reservation is needed. The problem, though, is that if you have a reservation to take you somewhere and are uncertain of the return time, you may not have the shuttle available and will need to utilize Uber or Yelp, which is not a significant problem other than you're paying for the return trip. We enjoy staying at this property, but under its current dated condition it certainly does not get more than a 3.5 rating.

Yelp
I met up with a friend for lunch, and it was pouring rain when I got there, so I was really grateful for the parking garage that offered two hours of validation. It was my first time dining at this restaurant, and I absolutely loved the views of the ocean. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive, truly embodying the spirit of hospitality. We felt well cared for throughout our visit. We ordered a hamburger with onion rings, eggplant hummus with pita bread, and clam chowder, followed by a pistachio cake for dessert. My friend really appreciated the hummus, though she wasn't as thrilled with the chowder. I thought the burger was well-prepared, and I always enjoy a good serving of onion rings. We both felt the cake was a bit on the sweet side for our tastes. Overall, it was a lovely experience.

Yelp
A very great location staff very nice but after being there two days and spending fair amount of money at the bar restaurant not to mention the hotel room they're trying to charge me $50 an hour for a late check out on a Monday. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. My wife has stayed here many times it was my first time since we were recently married love the experience up till now when I had to rush home for a family emergency and simply requested a little bit later, check out so we could not lose the entire day instead of just saying yes a couple hours three hours and just cleaning the room last when it's far from booked they're trying to squeeze $50 an hour out of me pathetic on their part here's a person who would've spent thousands and thousands of thousands with them over the next several years instead most likely won't ever give them another dollar cause they won't give me two or three hours extra considering the situation and the loyalty shown there's countless options and again the young staff was great, but the management is leaving me with a bad taste in my mouth after the $50 per hour squeeze trying to put on me. It literally cost them nothing and probably would've made their money as we would've stayed and had food and drinks on the property, but now I won't be giving them another dollar. Can't stand when these corporations are playing checkers when they should be playing chess. If the hotel reads this, we stayed in number 306 the last two nights you can still save a customer by making this right

Great location on the water, full service and has a pool! Next to park, kids play area, lifeguards and scuba area.

Yelp
(review for my recent stay on the week of July 21st) My fiancé and I stumbled upon the La Jolla Shores Hotel during an impromptu trip to La Jolla just a month ago (back in June), and it immediately captured our hearts. The charm of this coastal gem was undeniable, and we knew we had to return. So, when my fiancé's birthday approached, we couldn't think of a better place to celebrate. From the moment we booked the stay, the Guest Services team went above and beyond to make our stay extraordinary. Their warmth and attention to detail truly embodied the spirit of hospitality. Every interaction felt personal, and it was clear that the staff takes great pride in creating memorable experiences for their guests. The breathtaking views, the relaxed yet refined ambiance, and the exceptional service all contributed to a birthday celebration we won't soon forget. La Jolla Shores Hotel has quickly become one of our favorite retreats, and we're already looking forward to our next visit. To the wonderful team - thank you for making our stay so special. We'll be back very soon.

Yelp
TLDR: This was not a great place to stay in general. It had great views and friendly front desk staff but the rooms were not great and the hotel is noisy and old. La Jolla Shores was one of the hotels we stayed at during our recent San Diego trip. We booked LJS off of the recommendations we got on a Facebook group, and the photos and reviews seemed good. We booked 2 rooms, one with a partial ocean view and 2 queens, and a king oceanfront. First off, this hotel is in a very beautiful and safe location. It is easily accessible for an Uber to drop us off from the hotel. There is a slight fishy smell in the area where the hotel is located from the sea lions. I personally love the smell but you can smell it in the water a bit and through the air conditioning in this area. The front desk staff was nice but quite clueless. The rooms were ready when we arrived. On first impression, the hotel is definitely dated. There was some construction going on, but the facilities are old and showing age. The elevators have an absolutely horrible odor and paint/stairs are chipping. The ice machine was broken and the area around it was flooded with melted ice. The pool is smaller and full of screaming kids and their drunk parents. These kids and their parents were screaming until 11pm that night. The Queen Room appeared clean and was visually fine, but it had a horrific musty odor. Within 10 minutes we found that the AC unit was coated in black mold (see video below). We had to leave that room immediately as we had a headache and didn't want our belongings to pick up the smell. Luckily, the King room did not have this odor. We stayed here for the night and got the Queen room refunded. The room was definitely showing age but it was cute. The ocean view was stunning. The bathroom was very old, so was the carpet, and the AC was rattling and leaking Freon all over the wood patio. We enjoyed La Jolla Shores beach a lot. It was easily accessible from the hotel and it was crowded but very nice. Do note that you will hear screaming kids as the walls at the hotel are thin. We did end up eating at the Shores Restaurant, which I reviewed separately. (Our verdict was: great service & ambiance of the beach, but mediocre & overpriced food). We only stayed one night, because the hotel is old, noisy, and not worth the price of staying the full stay. The staff was nice enough to refund us for the other 2 nights after we showed them the videos of the mold.

Yelp
Stayed three nights here in February. Winter season brought us "buy 2, get a 3rd night for free" deal...sounded too good and it was unfortunately. Lots of issues. Had a couple LOVELY employees take care of us, especially David at the bar and shuttle driver from Brazil. But, let's start with the first room we were offered, with a "view of the beach"...which was actually a view of the 10 public toilets at the beach. We moved, of course. The elevator smells of disgusting floral infused stuff. Dated carpet; blackout curtains that will not slide and w/ LOTS of holes in them; a VERY dated junkie coffee maker; dated tile and appliances in bathroom; musty smelling linens on the bed that had to be replaced with something more fresh...an ongoing problem the entire trip. Free coffee from 7 - 10 a.m. Wow, I drink tea. How about some hot water and a few tea bags? No, sorry, go to the bar and purchase a cup of tea. Three times we were sitting out back on the adirondack chairs and the fuel ran out on four different heaters. The next day...same heaters were still out of fuel. No internet one day. Floor tile in 4x4' elevator looks like someone took a jack hammer to it. Spend the $300 and replace the floor tile! $40 a day resort fee? For what? We asked for a reconsideration of the price for EVERYTHING and they took away $80 of the $120 resort fees. WOW...that speaks loudly.

Yelp
This is a wonder location right on the beach! You can sit outside and gaze into the ocean for hours. There's plenty of water activities to take part in as well. The hotel is a bit dated and my bathroom had a few big bugs in it. The AC machine also needed a new filter so it barely worked. The staff is very nice and helpful. Larry who drive the hotel shuttle service is a gem!! He's super knowledgeable and friendly. This hotel is also walking distance to plenty of other restaurants to enjoy. La Jolla is a very cute place in which to take walks.

Lizzy B.

Yelp
The customer service was awful. I was there for 45 minutes waiting to get checked in. I have never been to a hotel with this bad of a service. Check-in's are usually 5 minutes! Noah did not know what he was doing. He ended up getting frustrated and snapped at me, which I did not appreciate it, especially since I was really patient with him. I ended up going to another hotel. Before leaving I asked for a business card for a manager and he was not able to find one?! Really!

Yelp
Bar was AMAZING! I had the pleasure of dining here last Saturday evening on a whim with my friend to celebrate my birthday dinner. And all I can say is wow! We decided to sit at the bar and watch the sunset on the beach! It was beautiful. The bartender David was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I was not sure what to drink and he recommended the Shores Surfrider drink based off my preferences. Hands down the BEST mixed cocktail I've have ever had! Highly impressed. Bartender David was awesome. Kept his cool and was super attentive despite it being super busy and few ladies being insanely demanding ordering coffee. Lol. Minus the rude ladies it was a wonderful experience:)

Yelp
Great location and view of the ocean... just 10 feet away your toes are in the beach sand. I came for a brunch this past Sunday for my long time friend's wedding and they served up a buffet with bagel and lox (tons of it to my delight), English banger breakfast sausage, bacon, huevos rancheros, and an assortment of juices and coffee plus alcohol beverages.... great food and service

Yelp
Let's discuss the restaurant (not the Hotel): I've seen it for years and never even thought to step inside until someone there got smart and made the outside area nice and Comfy. WE sat for coffee and soon enough found ourselves ordering chilaquiles. WoW the breakfast really surprised us, it was amazing. WE split one order and it was enough to share. They were PERFECTION!!!!
google avatar

Pinky K.

Yelp
This review is for the restaurant. It was way too expensive for basic food. But the view is amazing. Several in my party ordered steak and eggs. It was too dry and not tasty. Service was way too long. They also automatically add 20% gratuity. Be careful when you see your bill. My advice - just buy coffee and go get a burrito somewhere else then eat that by the beach.

Yelp
Never disappoints. This beautiful boutique property sits right on the beach!!! What's not to love? Get here as fast as you can! 10/10

Yelp
I want to preface my review with this: the location of this hotel and its proximity to amazing restaurants, beaches, etc. are undeniably great. Being in La Jolla is a magical experience. That said, the hotel restaurant left a bad taste in my mouth when they failed to disclose that there would be a $78 per person charge for their Christmas lunch buffet. And I'm talking Red Lobster quality food (which I barely touched by the way). Nowhere on the restaurant site, menu, or hotel brochure did it mention anything about the buffet price. Had the restaurant been transparent about it, I would've dined elsewhere. I feel bad for those who also had the misfortune of eating crappy food that came with a hefty price tag. The bad food -- coupled with the lack of price transparency -- diminished my otherwise fun Christmas vacation in La Jolla.

Janet G.

Yelp
Worse customer service ever. The front desk told us they would text us when our room was ready. No one ever got back to us. We had to call and ask if it was available four hours later - and it was ready, though no one ever notified or called us. The scratchy bed sheets had my itching all night long and the pool had a strong chlorine smell. This place was an ideal location years ago but now it's in dire need of a facelift and management upgrade. The pool staff is also half asleep and have little to no knowledge on anything hotel related. Non existent customer service. Thus, the two charging stations were been taken up by the same two cars all weekend long without moving once for other cars to charge. The hotel has no method of tracking these self-centered folks. Location is ideal. Close to shops and restaurants. Beach front property. Park next to property. Ideal for families. But also over crowded during summer months.

Yelp
We stayed here over night and what can I say other than WOW!!! The hotel manager Monte was so helpful along with all of the staff. He made sure we were taken care of and made us feel right at home. I can honestly say that I will definitely be staying here more often when I come down from LA to La Jolla beach. Thank you so much for your guys hospitality!!!

Judy C.

Yelp
Staff needs to have better manners & respect for customers. They were rude & not very accommodating. There was only one on Staff that was our waiter (Matt) who went out of his way to help us. I will not stay there again. Stayed from 10/30-11/1/24

Yelp
It just isn't my cup of tea. Upon check in was not offered bell hop assistance or a bottle of water. The place is extremely outdated. I froze in my room. The heat barely heated the room. It is too rustic for me. The proximity to the beach is perfect. Right on the beach bit I would trade modernist accommodations to mediocre hotel to one that was more modern and actually heated your room. I would have a recap of how to check guests in also to each member

Yelp
This was our first time visiting La Jolla and booked a hotel the night before. We booked this hotel based on La Jolla Mom's reviews. It did not disappoint. Great location right on the beach, beside the Kellogg park which had a playground for the kids to play on and walking distance to local restaurants. We loved being able to use the pool and hot tub (which was very small) but it was not busy during the time we were there. Although the hotel can use some updates it was great for the price and the rooms were very clean and beds were comfortable. I would recommend not paying for underground parking and just parking on the street. There are some Thursdays you can't park from 7-11am for street cleaning but just move your car if this is the case.

Erica B.

Yelp
The photos of the ocean front balcony are very deceiving paid for the expensive ocean front room because I wanted to read while looking out at the water while sitting in the balcony but when you sit in the balcony chairs you can't see the water AT ALL or ANYTHING other then the solid wooden wall of the balcony. The photos on the site show balcony's with circle cutouts throughout

Yelp
This hotel promised to match a price we found on Expedia but actually charged us $100 per night more. We called to have them correct the price when the confirmation email price was wrong and were assured it would be corrected before we left on our trip. We also asked the desk clerk to confirm and correct the price when we checked in. We got verbal confirmation both times but should have asked for it in writing. Now they claim we agreed to the higher price and refuse to refund the $300+ we were overcharged. All this because we thought we were doing them a favor by saving them from paying Expedia a percentage. We have been there before and would never have stayed there for the price they charged; it isn't worth it. The hotel gets shabbier every year and the only thing they really have going is the location.

Yelp
I stayed at La Jolla Shores very recently and I enjoyed my stay! The staff was friendly and very accommodating. Enjoyed a wonderful lunch in the patio area with a great view of the ocean. The shrimp cocktail was the best I've had so far! My accommodations was nice and my bed/pillows were comfortable. The hotel is walking distance from some great places to eat and a great ice cream shop nearby. I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Hotel Staffing is a major disconnect! The La Jolla Shore Hotel is a charming and relaxing stay with its convieniences near the beach, and dining options both in the hotel and the local dining within walking distance. But when it comes to the staff, there seems to be a total disconnect between responsibilities. They know how to give you "lip service", but fail miserably in following through! It's as though each individual on the staff has their own untrained answer for your needs, but always are sure to remind you what you will be charged. I booked 4 rooms for a weekend stay (Aug.2024) to celebrate my wifes' 70th birthday with our immediate famiy. We had booked this 2 months earlier to be sure all the arrangements were verified well in advance and all the rooms will be billed to me. #1 Upon arrival, as my family members checked in, the front desk required that each room have a credit card pre-approved. I was assured directly by the staff member that the additional credit card was only for charging incidentals, as I had already covered for the actual room charges. At checkout, they said they had no record of our card on file and proceeded to bill my family member for each room. That was quite embarrassing for me after telling them the room charge was on us! #2 We had 8pm reservations for dining at the Marina Room, of which the hotel offered their shuttle service for my family to the restaruant (it's a 10-15 minute walk). According to the website, they say their shuttle service goes until 10pm. When we finished dining at 9:30pm they informed us the shuttle was done for the evening, so we had to walk back. Again, another disconnect on information from the staff. #3 The morning we were to be checking out, we first proceeded to have breakfast at 9am in the Shores Restaurant, which is right nect to the front lobby. We had still not received our food order by 10am, so I went to the front desk to enquire on possibly extending our checkout time an hour as a courtesy due to the restaurants' slow service. They informed me they don't allow late checkouts because housekeeping doesn't allow it? (Doesn't the hotel define the hotel rules? hey... just sayin') Again, does the staff create these rules along the way? I've never seen a hotel without a late checkout policy! #4 Due to having to literally "Eat & Run" because of the slow service of the Shores restaruant, we got our things together and managed to check out at the front desk before 11:30am. Upon checkout, we explained to the staff member that the breakfast bill was charged to the room and we wanted to be sure it was included in our final checkout. They said the bill did not show yet (also said this delay wasn't unusual), but assured us they will bill our card on file (which they verified) and it will show as a separate bill . We said we will approve to that and they will email the final invoice. On our way home, we get a phone call from the Shores restaruant saying we ran out and did not pay our bill. We told them the front desk assured us it will be billed to our card, of which the girl on the phone replied "this is the restaruant and not the hotel!. Again, not only an embarassment of implying we ran out on the bill, it's a total disconnect between staff and services! (BTW, we received the restaruant invoice and reciept of payment from the hotel via email 10 minutes later.). I apologize for the lengthy review, but the details were necessary to understand the scope of the situation. Again, the hotel has it's charm and convieniences, but given the fact I left aprox. $7000.00 in room charges and dining, it is nowhere near meeting it's expetations and hardly deserving of any recommendations with such dissappointing policies and staff!

Yelp
Don't book anywhere else but here. This is the place to be. The beach is 100 steps from your hotel room. Service is amazing. The views are breathtaking. Must do a kayak tour.

Sarah C.

Yelp
We love this hotel, our kids had the best time. They not only bring out sun umbrellas and towels on to the beach so you can have a beach picnic, but they also have a very cute and tasty might I add restaurant right on the beach. We enjoyed one of our dinners overlooking the sunset. It was magical. Our room overlooked the beach, we could smell the beach ocean and hear the waves at night. Absolutely loved it. We will definitely be going back again!

RIch S.

Yelp
We stayed there this weekend for Father's Day. The nice touches were the s'mores on Sat and snow cones by the pool on Sunday. The negatives include the front desk person not applying our AAA discount, the room's AC not working, the server for the pool comes out to take overs once every hour, and the hotel did not inform us that we would be charged extra for parking if our car is in the lot after checkout. For what we paid for one night, I definitely expected better. Additionally, the breakfast service at the Shores Restaurant was downright negligent.

Don E.

Yelp
This review is for the outdoor restaurant Only! My husband and I have been coming here EVERY Sunday for the last three months. Today we had the ABSOLUTE WORST service EVER! Our server was LEO. Had to ask twice for our drinks after I waited a long time. Also had to ask for our delayed lunch, which what was WRONG! FINALLY, comes the bill. Received the wrong return change. Leo disappeared and had to ask for someone to find him to return 17 dollars owed! The food is always excellent but not the service,!

Yelp
If you need a hotel to stay at in La Jolla, this is it! I have to give this hotel 5 stars. We will definitely be coming back and will be asking for the same room! We had the perfect beachfront view with a balcony! Everything was convenient and customer service was great. This is a public beach but really felt like it was private to the hotel. They provide beach chairs, towels and umbrella. The chairs are not reclining, just regular sitting which was fine. They have a shuttle that will take you up to 5 mile which is awesome. We didn't use but that's great to know for next time. It's next to a huge park for kids and they have a restaurant on the property but there are other restaurants 5 minute away walking distance and shops! I recommend the beachfront view but I'm not telling my room number!

Yelp
The is a sweet place. It is hard to beat the location. I was here several years ago and am thrilled to report that they have replaced their louvre windows with solid windows. They have also put new sliding glass doors in the rooms. This helps with heat insolation and sound. Sadly, the walls are still not insulated, so I can hear the people in the room next to me as though they were in my own room. Also, depending on where you room is, the sounds from the outside courtyard can amplify as they rebound off the walls. So, if you are sound sensitive, you want to bring some earplugs. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. They always wore masks indoors. The place is clean and has that relaxed beachy vibe. They are offering housekeeping every day but Sunday. That was a surprise to me since I haven't seen hotels offering that during the pandemic. You can always put up the "do not disturb" if you aren't comfortable with folks entering the room. Hard to beat the view from the restaurant, especially the window tables. They don't offer room service, but you can call and order a meal for "pick-up." It's just a short walk to the restaurant from your room and mostly outdoors. Very enjoyable.

Yelp
This hotel location couldn't be better. Beach front and in the middle of a very cute area with beautiful houses, nice restaurants and a lot of lil kayak and shops to chow from. They have some great tennis courts, a nice pool, table tennis tables, a nice lil restaurant and a very cute Spanish style patio. The rooms are very simple and not modern but it matches the hotel style. Everybody on the staff was very cordial. You also get a welcome drink on check in, what is a nice gesture! If you are going to La Jolla and want a great location this is it!!!

Yelp
The only good thing about this hotel is location. Other than that the customer service is terrible. The rooms are not clean or updated. There was blood stains on the tub in our room. We asked to have it cleaned and they told us it was paint and they couldn't clean it. So we cleaned it ourselves and it was indeed blood. Just an over unsanitary and disappointing experience.

Yelp
Ahhh La Jolla Shores. Well, folks, this may be one of my favorite spots.... Ever. So much that we decided to get married here. Our wedding was INCREDIBLE (much thanks to our wedding planner), and of course the hotel is amazing. We have stayed here 6 times over the course of the last 4 years (we live outside of Chicago and research the crap out of places before we go~ so that's saying a lot!) and we have always had a top notch experience. Thank you La Jolla Shores!

Yelp
This place was clean and cozy! We enjoyed sitting on the green belts next to the ocean. It was very relaxing and we enjoyed watching all the kayakers and beachgoers for several hours. What a view!!! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
The location to the beach and a Starbucks is great. The lobby was very inviting. The view from the 11th floor for dining was amazing. Our king bed was comfortable and it was a standard room. We were on the 3rd floor so no ocean view. The room is fairly dated and our side chair should have been thrown out or repurposed. The manager was great and gave my husband an extended no charge time to check out so he could take a meeting.

Yelp
We had a wedding party stay here in January. The hotel is run down, tiles missing in bathroom, some of our party had floods in their rooms, and some of our party checked in and had to leave due to numerous problems with the room. It is not worth the price we paid for, even though we got discounted rates. The location is nice on the beach, but I would never stay here again. It also has many areas being renovated, and we were not told of this prior to checking in. If you like renovation work being done while you are on vacation go for it.

Yelp
This is the first time we have booked a room and the room actually matched the pictures. Huge room with an ocean facing view. Leave the dual Arcadia doors open and hear the sounds of the ocean all day and night. The view is amazing!!! It's not to crowded at the beach and plenty of area to explore. Staff is friendly and there is a really nice restaurant at the hotel with a few place to eat within 400 feet. We have stayed at multiple spots up and down the coast of San Diego and this is a beautiful spot without the hustle and bustle fill. We will be Back

Yelp
I've always really really liked this hotel the many times I've come. Rooms are very spacious and cozy. Beds are super nice. Fridge is great keeps stuff very cold. Our room even had a kitchenette! Most of the shower products do pretty good at taming your ocean hair. The highlight of course is the access to the beach! The beach is pretty much right outside your door and we could even see part of it from our balcony without an ocean view room! The beach is very lovely with great waves for those who love to surf or boogie board. The hotel also provides towels, chairs and an Umbrella for those visiting the beach. Great hotel in a great area.

Yelp
The listed price doesn't include breakfast, parking $35/night, and water was not included. The manage was rude and not helpful at all. Some of the front desk people were not friendly at all. Very expensive for the quality we expected.

Yelp
This place is really showing it's age. For the price I was expecting a bit nicer. It is right on the beach so that makes it worth more. They just need to give it an upgrade inside and out so it doesn't look stuck in the 1970's. We tried to do a load of laundry. The change machine would not work, lost money in the soap dispenser. The front desk didn't have any change. Sent me to the restaurant. They didn't have any change. It really turned a ho hum experience worse the way I was treated over some change for their coin operated laundry.

Yelp
my friends are in town for work and staying here...so i had a lovely pool day with them. FYI...the pool is open...the jacuzzi is not. services are limited (no food/drink service at pool as usual)...but when i went into the bar area to order they were super friendly. COVID definitely makes life different than what we have been accustomed to, so just remember that staff is doing what they are told to do by their supervisors, who are following state guidelines....so be nice and patient. rooms are standard rooms but have fabulous views of la jolla shores. excellent access to park/beaches. super close to tons of cute shops liquor store around the corner!!!! bonus points. oh ya...and of course the marine room =) if i didn't live in SD and was visiting...it think i would pick this as a place to stay.

Yelp
I had a terrible experience there. I booked an oceanfront room for 5 nights but checked out after 2 nights. The facility is super old and the room has paper thin walls. I keep hearing neighbors laughing, screaming at night, couldn't fall into sleep. The air conditioner is very loud to a point I cannot even use it. As a result, it was super hot overnight that I can barely sleep. When I checked out I asked for a refund for 2 night. The hotel representative asked me to call Amex where I booked my stays through, and so did I. But my card company said when they called the hotel for a refund, the hotel representative said they needed the management's approval for issuing that and they didn't know when the management will come in. It was 8:30am on a weekday, what a joke! This hotel is luckily that it's on the shore, and that's it, everything else is terrible, I'll never come back.

Yelp
If I could give this place a minus 10, I would. We've been coming here for years ~ we missed 2023 and came for Memorial Day week in 2024. It sure has changed! It's SO run down now, smells disgusting, tiles missing all over the place, elevator smells horrible, staff is not that friendly, AND they now charge $42 a day, for garage parking, & a $32 a day resort fee..for what?? The entire facility has gone.down hill..the restaurant food & drinks are mediocre & overpriced. They literally charged my card an additional $1,100 after I had paid the entire balance at check in. When I questioned it, they weren't sure 'why that happened', & refunded it. However, it took several days to not have the funds available. Noise level starts at 4 AM,,so don't expect a nice quiet stay..we'll never go back again, which makes us sad. The only thing it has going for it now is the location ..don't waste your hard earned money. It was a gem before, but the family that owns it has allowed it to get run down, while being greedy as hell.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel many times in the past. Considered it an aging old queen and we all liked that vibe. However. The last time we all stayed over memorial weekend and it was just bad. The beautiful views from the balconies are now obscured with the wooden posts they are attempting to shore up the crumbling building. The whole building leans now. All the sliding doors slide open by themselves. The bathroom door slide open by itself. The entire building is sinking into the sand. The furniture is old. The carpets are dirty. My mattress? Smelled like old sweat. It was disgusting. Downstairs the drinks are expensive and the food is marginal. Tiles are missing all over and the elevator from the garage smells terrible. But that not the only insult to expect here. They snuck new fees in. A 37$ a day resort fee. Allows you to enjoy the pool which used to be free. Also your parking fee after paying 500$ or more for your room is 42$ a day. Which used to be free guest parking. Also be aware that they now allow PUBLIC parking in the garage also. So if there's no place to park? You pay 42$ a day to park on the street. Stayed here many times. Never again. Just drive on. There's WAY better cleaner more modern and WAY cheaper. Without rude managers.
