The 34 Best Restaurants in Madrid, Spain | Eater

"Owners Carmen Aldi, José Certruchas, and Jesús Encinas decided to leave the city’s high-end cuisine circuit to open La Llorería, where they play by their own rules. The trio has found ways to serve outstanding dishes without the gouging price tags or corseted dress codes of the fine dining scene. At their small, casual restaurant in the Malasaña neighborhood, they center the action around a bar, some small tables, and a big chalkboard of daily specials. Dishes such as tomato with miso or cauliflower with bacon and squid have managed to inspire crowds, making it impossible to eat here without a proper reservation. Best for: Creating your own tasting menu experience by ordering all the dishes on offer and sharing with your dining companions." - Paula Móvil

"A restaurant that exudes a sense of freedom, excitement and youthful exuberance in equal measure – qualities which combine perfectly with consistency, technique and a passion for hard work. The setting, which takes on the appearance of a bar with just a few tables and has a counter set up for dining, is relatively simple, but this is compensated in spades by contemporary cuisine featuring flavours and textures that are always interesting. Choose between an à la carte particularly designed for sharing, with the option of “raciones” and half plates." - Michelin Inspector

This place came insanely recommended by friends, and it did not disappoint, at all. Service: The staff are excellent. So welcoming, accommodating and genuine! Food: They really worked on the mix of flavors. The aubergine and the kumquat was something else. They change the menu every two months, so thats exciting! Will definitely be back!

One of my favourite spots in Madrid. (Book ahead!) Besides booking we walked in blind to what we wanted, the staff were super friendly and offered us a menu based on some questions they asked us. The dishes were creative and wonderful and while I didn't like them all my friend would like the ones I didn't and visa-versa. Because of the range of tastes not everything will be for everyone but I can appreciate the effort and can see the vision for all the dishes. They also had wonderful drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). The place is small and gives a cozy vibe but has good sound absorption so that even when full you can easily talk to the person next to you.

Truly one of the best meals I have ever had. My partner and I were sat at the bar & enjoyed everything that was served to us. As per the reviews, we opted to have the server select dishes for us to enjoy. Pairing glasses of wine for different sections of the meal, interactive service with servers describing each dish and being front row to the chefs at work (open kitchen style) was truly a night to remember. We walked away truly in awe of this meal, it was the perfect way to end our stay in Madrid! We will be back and will be recommending anyone coming to Madrid to go to La Lloreria!!!! Xx

Make your reservation now! If you like interesting flavors and experimental food then this is the place for you. But reservations are a must as the place is small and they are only open for certain hours, but very worth it. We did chef’s menu where they kept bringing dishes until we were done based on dietary needs and food preferences. Each dish was presented with detailed explanation and was very innovative. Many dishes were surprising and it’s like we were dissecting them as we enjoyed to understand how they were created. Each dish is meant to be shared but very reasonably priced for how fresh the food was.

Very inventive and playful fusion cuisine. Since they offered half sized plates, the 3 of us at our table were able to try out their entire menu at a very affordable price. The highlights were the roasted cauliflower with indian curry-bacon bits-fried baby squids, the tomale with iberico ham-pumpkin seed-tuna neck and creme fresh, and the spanish peppers with croutons in a tomato sauce. The caujada (goats milk curd) dessert was quite delicate and refreshing as well. Good by the glass wine recommendations and they had a house made hibiscus non alcoholic drink that my daughter enjoyed. We were all stuffed full by the end of our meal, and it didn't take excessive long time to finish. Service was fantastic from our 2 servers and they spoke perfect English and was very accommodating to the diner's wishes, allergies, etc. Overall a very unique meal if you are willing to let the chefs take you on their journey of fusion cuisine around the world.

Google needs to correct settings for this restuarant. 5 stars is just not enough! This was our last meal in Madrid after spending 8 days in Spain. There is no way we could have expected anything as good as this. Not knowing what was coming next from the chef was both exciting and (to start) concerning. This concern went away after trying the first plate that was brought out. Wow! Every single plate (we had 6 plus dessert) was incredible. Both my wife and I felt like this was the best meal we had ever had. Kudos to the staff and the chefs. They have an incredible business. If you are interested, get reservations, it's a small restaurant. I'm including 4 pictures of items we had, sorry about missing the other 3, we were just so excited to try the food, I forgot to take the picture :). While we have the 7 plates, you do not have a set number, as our host told us, we could say stop at anytime. We just had a hard time as each plate was so good.

Made me cry. Best meal of my life. Go and tell them to recommend dishes and wine and put your meal in their hands. I can’t describe it. I guess the closest thing would be to say that it’s like a drug. I’ve never had food that conjured emotions like that before. I felt like the critic in Ratatouille.
