We came for dinner on recommendation of my sister-in-law. First of all, the ambiance of this place is amazing. A+. Really nicely done, with a shop and floral display. So I had high hopes for the food. We had some cheese, which was good. (But, it's Florence. The cheese is always good.) We didn't get fancy drinks, just some spritzes. After sucking down Aperol, Campari, and limoncello spritzes all week, I was a little disappointed at how much ice and how little spritz there was.
Then came the entrees. Now, I've been to plenty of "tiny food" places and the exquisiteness of the tastes usually justifies the small portions and high prices. This is not one of those places. I actually had to suppress a snort of laughter when they set the dishes down. I kinda felt like we were being punked. Now, the bucatini was good. But again, it's Florence, so pasta had damn well better be good. My daughter claimed the duck tasted like pork, but she liked it. The teeny-tiny ravioli were obviously hard to make, but the super puréed pesto was a weird texture, and the taste was not improved by the puréing. There were zero eye-rolling groans of joy or loving invitations of "you have to try this!" like happened regularly while dining in this city.
I didn't bother with dessert, because I couldn't handle more disappointment.
In a city where you can't swing a cat without hitting 2 or 3 great restaurants, I'd say come here for a drink to admire the ambiance and then go get food someplace else.
