I have come here on more then a few occasions for lunch. Place is normally empty. The place is nice and cleaned. They have an extensive alcohol menu. They have daily food and drink specials. Most recently I ordered the quessabirria dinner . It's a 3 taco dinner that comes with rice, beans and consume . The food is always good and consistent. So is the service. Please note They do charge an automatic 18% gratuity for all dine in customers. I recommend this place 👌 😀

This is why I love & miss living in Bridgeport. Some of the best tacos in the city. Queso, Birria Meal with the rice and beans was fire! And then I ordered a steak & chicken taco did not disappoint! This is what I’m talking about when I say I want tacos.

Was Once One Of My Favorite Taco Places Until I Have Had Multiple Incident With The Cashier JOVANNI. He Is Very Rude Everytime I Come Which Makes Me No Longer Want To Come. Yes Good Food But His Attitude Is Horrible, He Tried To Go Back And Forth With Me Telling Me How To Order My Food And Telling Me Not To Tell Him What I Want On It While Management Was There And Did Nothing! I’ll Take My Business Else Where With Good Food And GOOD Customer Service.

I ordered Wednesday special three $2.5 beef tacos. The food is okay. But, the middle aged lady waitress did not give complimentary tortilla chips and salsa to my table. That waitress thought that complimentary chips were not for me. I will never come back again. They charged me 18% of gratitude automatically if you are dine in. I am not wondering why this restaurant is not busy.

I asked to steak tacos and they sent me this! Worst experience

Google
Fantastic experience with La Mexicana Taqueria, and not just because of the food. We stopped in for lunch after a long flight traveling from Tampa to Chicago that was delayed for hours. Food was EXCELLENT, especially the lunch bowls. After paying, I accidentally left my wallet on the restaurant counter and drove to Indiana where I didn't discover it missing until two hours later. The staff not only found my wallet and protected it, but helped me make arrangement for a friend who was travelling south to pick it up - checking IDs and everything to make sure they were legit. On top of that, not a THING was missing from it. This could have been a disaster of a trip, but instead the staff here showed that in addition to making killer food and having great service, they're honest people. Much respect to them, and we could not recommend them more highly!

Google
Great little spot for authentic flavors and vibe. The giant sign out front makes finding this place easy. I was greeted right away and told to sit anywhere I liked, then upon my selection, I was given a basket of nachos and a couple salsas to go with. It was my first time there and the menu is packed with a lot of options, so it took me some time to order. But I was not rushed by the polite and friendly staff. I didn't eat much, just a set of fish tacos with chopped cilantro and diced onions, but they were very good. The salsa provided to me earlier was used on the tacos as well. I liked the bar and the red brick wall with arched windows. It made the space feel welcoming. It was also cool to see the chef in the order window checking in on the restaurant periodically, it signified to me at least, that he cared. I'll be back to try another dish soon!

I ordered to go because I was looking after my granddaughter's dog. As for the food, it was great and it was ready when I got there to pick it up.

Yelp
The whole place is amazing, tacos are 5 stars! Service is also great, staff is nice, and welcoming.

Yelp
Walked into this place on the way to Bridgeport Art Center and it was such a great meal! The green salsa was really flavorful, as was the rice and lengua tacos. There is paid street parking on the main road but I'm sure you can find free parking close by.

Yelp
Decided to order take out from here last night. My partner really wanted menudo for a while and they serve it here all week! They messed our order up which was really upsetting because he had been raving about this place for a while. Menudo just isn't the same without the condiments and rice, (which they forgot in our order). Also I asked for a chicken taco with cilantro and rice and they served it with tomato and lettuce. I ordered chicken fajitas which were really juicy and delicious. When I called to let them know what happened, they weren't very helpful. They stated "next time you order let us know what happened". Not sure how that would be helpful in this situation. For the high prices of their menu I expected better customer support. For this reason I probably will not be coming back!

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time for a quick bite and a good margarita. They seem to have a full bar, but I was served a margarita that tasted like pure margarita mix, I couldn't taste any tequila. Not good at all. I sent it back (bartender/server was offended), said she's never had any complaints on her margarita's. I instead opted to order Don Julio and pineapple juice, but they did not have any juice. She offered a Paloma instead, so I figured I'd just do Don Julio and some grapefruit soda (again, no juice). She came back with a shot of tequila and a bottled grapefruit soda and told me I'd have to pay for the grapefruit soda separately $3. (I only needed a splash). After seeing the 18% mandatory gratuity on all checks, I was shocked (I was eating alone) and told her I didn't want the grapefruit soda. I also ordered two steak tacos, they were solid. The chips and salsa were also ok. The restaurant was cold and my tacos got cold before I could finish the second one... I didn't even get a glass of water to my table. So the 18% gratuity is a joke. It was 11:45am on Taco Tues and I was the only one in the dining room. The 2 stars I gave was for the tacos, because I was starving. Needless to say, I'll never be back here and would not recommend this place to any of my friends.

Yelp
Ya'll betta workkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!! My food was excellent! I adore Mexican food! I am so happy to find you guys! I ordered a beef enchiladas with Mole dinner, grilled jalapeños, a steak taco and guacamole and chips. My food came hot and fresh! Everything was delish!!!! **I ordered a horchata yesterday and it wasn't wrapped in a bag. It should have been. I opened it and it had bubbles in it. The dasher could have opened it and spit or something. I would like to recommend that you guys place the drinks in a plastic bags and tie the top.

Ross R.

Yelp
Their veggie burrito is really tasty - one of the best I've had anywhere. Reasonable prices and the food is as good or better than more expensive places.

R V.

Yelp
Food was delicious, plentiful, hot. Service was excellent and the restaurant was very clean.

Torina B.

Yelp
If you are going to add 18% gratuity to every order, including take out and dine in! Then have someone who can get me some damn water! They charge this even for to go orders! This is why the restaurant industry will continue to suffer! No one came to my table after dropping off my food but you want to charge me 18% gratuity! I will not be back and it was plenty of empty tables for a reason. I wanted two more beers but will be damn if I give you $10 more than I have to. I believe in tipping but I expect good service for it! Not just dropping my food off! Bullshit!

L L.

Yelp
Still my favorite Mexican restaurant in Chicago serving the best enchiladas in town. Their tacos are great but I'm disappointed they no longer offer lengua (beef tongue) tacos. It was a sad day when I found out. Service is always excellent. I recommend trying their daily drink specials - Wednesday is my favorite "Blue Margarita" (sweet & sour and 5x better than a regular margarita) for $6. Their dining room is now reopen.

Ed A.

Yelp
I come here often, their Torta Al Pastor is my favorite here. They also have very good big margaritas. Although if you get that one young male waiter, you will know who when you get him. He has the worst attitude and has a miserable type personality. I found it comedic at first but it's got old after the 8th visit. I love the food though.

Peter M.

Yelp
Took my lady friend and her daughter there for lunch. Spent a good amount of money and paid a decent bill but since when did this restaurant start charging a service charge? I paid 11 dollars in a service charge for what? I've been to this restaurant many times for years and I'm not complaining about the prices that have gone up, everything is or has gone up but to expect me to pay a service charge for 3 people and then tip? This isn't down town with down town prices!

Brenda D.

Yelp
Walked past this place since the burger joint down there street was closed and saw the amazing reviews. We order the flautas and they were two corn tortillas overlapping eachother to make them bigger. The steak had 0 flavor and was mainly fat. I also ordered the potato ones thinking it would be your traditional mashed potato one nope it was hash browns rolled in a different tortilla than the steak ones and again had 0 flavor. The only thing that was good was the horchata. Keep an eye out they include the tip. The tacos and burrito were ok because all the other stuff added flavor to it, but the meat was unseasoned

Michael H.

Yelp
Good little spot in Bridgeport for a quick Mexican Bite!! Walking in... there is a smallish bar and some booths & tables.. pretty standard. Chips & Salsa are served and the salsa is excellent!! The food is good.. we tried tacos & burrito suizo and they were both very good. They also serve alcohol which is definitely a PLUS! Prices average & service is just fine// talk later

Saul C.

Yelp
muy mal experiencia la comida mala y el arroz bien duro en realidad ya no volveremos a ir

Alissa T.

Yelp
When my group of 4 sat down first thing waitress does is drop her tray on the floor and spilt salsa all over my friends leg and foot. Then we ordered a cocktail pitcher I had a spider in my glass and she poured my drink in there anyway. Once I noticed it was in there she said well what do you want me to do about it. Then on the bottom of the menu it says group of 5 has automatically 15% gratitude which is fine. But I wasn't a group of 5 and also service was so bad beans were hard and tasted old. Waitress had horrible attitude. Never going back

Kimmie R.

Yelp
Woaaaaah dahaaaaaaaaam this food was superior! First, they are 35th street and I can't believe they delivered all the way downtown. We ordered different types of food and everything they sent us was perfect. Pollo en Mole Speciality - wow the sauce and the portion sizes omg it was amazing. Carne a la Tampiquena Speciality - We loved it and they gave us both kinds of tortillas. Fajita Speciality - once again was perfect. The seasoning, how the meat was cooked without drying it out and the portions - perfection! Limonada - tasted cool and they gave us a giant cup the size of an adult head. Ha ha ha All the food tasted great even the next day, because we had leftovers because the portion sizes were big enough. It was nice standing around with my family sampling each other's food. I was so glad I picked this place to order from and I want to try dine in whenever quarantine is over. They deliver to the Loop. No Mexican restaurants in the loop taste even remotely as good as this place so I will be ordering regularly this is my new spot! You should make it yours.

Yelp
Came here for a Sunday lunch with a couple of friends and had a great time! When we came in we were served a huge basket of chips and salsa. I know this isn't novel, but I was pretty surprised by how big the basket of chips were. We all got several tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and horchatas. The horchatas were great and soo cinnamony. Loved how everything else tasted too--I'm always partial towards lengua tacos and really enjoyed mine. I also got a carne asada quesadilla which everyone was jealous of. Service was so fast and the staff were so friendly and kind! Their rotating drink and $2 taco specials are such a plus too. Just remember to look at the board behind the cashier for the daily special.

Mike G.

Yelp
One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the city and my favorite in Bridgeport! Taqueria La Mexicana has some of the best tasting food I've ever had and at a cheap price. Their brunch selection is decent, so it's nice to have another option for brunch. Next time you're on the Southside, come here!

Clara L.

Yelp
Tacos are good. Suizo burrito is good. I wish lime didn't cost extra. Otherwise good.

Michelle P.

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Their beef enchiladas are amazing and the red hot sauce is so yummy & spicy. Drinks are good to (and you can get them to-go!) Beef tacos are great and flavorful. The bartender/server is always so friendly and service fast!

Jaxson B.

Yelp
Came on a Friday night for takeout and had CRAZY fast service! I called my order ahead of time (2 burritos, nothing crazy) but it was ready in 10 minutes! When i got there, they had it ready for me and the woman at the counter was really sweet. There's a ton of street parking along 35th! I was only inside for a minute but I was impressed with the brick building and fun decor! It was also very clean with a partially open kitchen. For the food - we got 2 burritos - one chicken and one Mexican sausage (aka chorizo but not the chorizo breakfast burrito). Each burrito is 7.95 which is a great price for a quality burrito! They both had solid taste but seemed to be missing some texture. My chicken burrito got pretty soggy, granted I did pick it up a little after it was made. Food kinda felt like it was missing something. I was tempted to go 4 stars bc i think there's some room for improvement with food, but everything else was perfect! Overall look forward to coming back and trying again.

Yelp
The first time we came here about two years ago, the beef with potatoes tacos were so delicious that we wanted to come back again. We live so far away we couldn't wait to be in the area to go back to this place. Today, we grabbed the opportunity. To our dismay, the tacos were meh. The potatoes weren't the same, maybe less than generous. We don't know if it's a different cook today but we were really disappointed in our meals today. Husband said never again.

Cinthia F.

Yelp
I ordered caldo de Res and instead I got caldo de pollo. Not much flavor and the arroz was a little to salty. Never ordering from this place again. Very disappointed

Mario A.

Yelp
Came in with wife, i got the taco dinner, steak, pastor, lengua... !!!! The lengua was super soft diced, the steak was good, pastor was bomb!!! Rice was good beans were a lil om the sugar side. But all good, i like the interior as well, small but very nice!

Rose C.

Yelp
They are adding a COVID FEE to your bill! When I questioned the waiter who is the owner's son he said they are doing it because "downtown restaurants are doing it" the cook who is the owner came out from the hot grill area and they both waived their hands very upset that I question the COVID FEE! If they want to be successful they need to take a customer Service class!

Nita Z.

Yelp
I usually pick up tacos only once in a while so I wanted to try torta and soup First off the pricing was off double the price FASLE ADVERTISEMENT Second I wanted chicken torta and got Res I my coworker call and told her we wanted money from her and hung up this is what you call good customer service ? When we call to let you know about the order as the business owner you should not treat your customer like that

Roseann S.

Yelp
Horrible experience at La Mexicana on 35th Street, near Halsted. My bad for ordering from there again. This time the owner, (female) swore at me continuously and hung up on me when I called to let them know my order was incorrect. Disgraceful owners and never returning. Don't bother.

Sandra R.

Yelp
I just Ordered from this place for the first time last Saturday . I got a chicken soup which was $14.00 had a strange red color a tiny piece of chicken . Not tasty at all I threw it away . Got a torta pastor for 8.50 very little meat . and the Main thing that really blew me was I order a order of guacamole they charged 8.50 and the cup was tiny had to be one avocado maybe just maybe 2 !! I was appalled at the price for that tiny tiny cup !!! Total was 41.00 for a chicken soup one torta and a tiny tiny guacamole and one large horachata !!! Nothing was good about any of it and they should be ashamed of them selves selling that tiny cup of guacamole for 8.50 I don't recommend this place at all !!

Ramone P.

Yelp
This was me & the Mrs. first time at this restaurant. Their tortilla chips were warm and fresh. The green and red sauce that comes with it were good and fresh to. We tried their steak taco dinner with onion and cilantro, and it was very tasty. I also tried a chicken taco, Just to see if it would be better then the steak, and it wasn't. We also tried their lemonade. Which was cool, it just needed more of a lemon taste. The restaurant was very clean. The waitress named Veronica gave us very good service to. I recommend you check out this spot. We'll be back!!!

Marchele T.

Yelp
Very disappointed with their hospitality. I used to enjoy going to this restaurant with my boyfriend. I called the establishment a few times because I wasn't sure what I wanted because when you're sick and not feeling very well someone's finding something to eat can be tough. I really wanted to eat the house soup however because of Covid apparently the restaurant was no longer serving it. So I had to settle for something else I wasn't sure about. I had my boyfriend go pick up the food and the employees were being extremely rude to him. We will no longer be supporting this business that we would frequent.

Bridget C.

Yelp
You know that feeling when you're craving something and you order it and it comes exactly as you pictured...well this place doesn't give you that! That's right, I ordered from uber eats. I paid for a taco dinner with only ONIONS AND CILANTRO. I get ONLY lettuce and tomato...I also specifically asked for only salsa verde!! Wtaf! I got mostly salsa Rojo. I called the place to tell them. They asked what they could do, and stated that I'd have to drive there to get it corrected. Ummmm excuse my first world rant for a second...but I ordered delivery so I wouldn't have to drive! Bruuuuhhhhh ok rant over. But also the beans taste like tomato paste. Not good.

Tim K.

Yelp
When I first tried them it was actually really good but the last two times I've tried to order off of UberEats and after the first mistake where they forgot to send a bag of food and wanted me to get it I was like fine mistakes happens. But for the same mistake to happen twice is insane. Never again this is such and outrage. To be ask can you come and pick up your food that you asked for delivery is an insane request.

Angela B.

Yelp
I think I have found my new favorite Mexican spot! I love, love, love this place! I went with my boyfriend and one of our friends on a Saturday evening. There were a couple other tables of people but it wasn't overly crowded. We were greeted immediately and the waitress dropped off warm chips and fresh salsa. Our party tried the tacos, the fajitas and the enchiladas. All were EXCELLENT! The guacamole is really, really good.. everything was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Even their refried beans were better than most places I've been! The fried ice cream is to die for. The prices are reasonable and you get a great amount of food. They have great daily specials - so take advantage! I will absolutely be back!

Yashira H.

Yelp
First time ordering from here and I hte to leave bad reviews but this restaurant needs to be more aware at the time of derving their food. I found a metal shaving from a stainless steel scrubber in one of my tacos. I said to myself, it's ok, things happen. I try my other taco, nd once again, I almost swallow another piece of metal scrubber. Not ordering ever again.

Marcus C.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE this Taqueria! Best mexican food in Bridgeport! I eat here quite often. Food is always fresh and hits the spot everytime.

G A.

Yelp
Deadly allergic to sour cream told them i can't have sour cream on my burrito. I get my order and there's sour cream. I asked them to replace the burrito but they refused to change the order and not admit they were at fault. Horrible experience, rude customer service, would not recommend.

Brittany T.

Yelp
One thing that really rubbed me the wrong way is I looked at the menu online before going in to order, and when I actually ordered inside the prices were different. The second thing I wasn't too happy about was the food was just not really seasoned or flavorful. I think the worst thing ever is to eat from a place and feel like you need to go home and and salt and pepper.

Jennifer N.

Yelp
YUM!! Why have I been walking past this place for 3 years!? Chicken taco dinner was exactly what I've been craving. $4 Beef Nachos (with Guac!!) Amazing! Awesome daily food & drink specials and just as good, if not better than those places down the street. I'll definitely be ordering from you guys from now on.

Vivian C.

Yelp
This place is absolute garbage. I had a problem with my order and they didn't do anything about it. Just stared at me and said, "oh." I couldn't even eat my meal because of how disgusting it was. They didn't even offer a refund, so I paid and left. If you want real Mexican food come to Pilsen!!

Daniel S.

Yelp
Solid mexican place in bridgeport, i got the suizo fish burrito, which was good and big for only 7.99, plus a $8 margarita which was fine, service was good, chips and salsa were fine, maybe nothing particularly special, but it delivered in everything i was looking for

Ali P.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! I got the stuffed pepper tacos and guac and both hit the spot.

Brooke G.

Yelp
Amazing AMAZING!.. the food quality is amazing, everything is fresh and seasoned to perfection!! Great service, homade desserts.. Just Yum!.. I am literally in a food Zen..did i say amazing yet? Lol..this restaurant is a must try!!

Alexandria M.

Yelp
I have only ordered delivery from here via DoorDash. Food is great! Authentic Mexican. I guess the DoorDash menu is a little different than the actual dine in menu. There's no taco dinner option or option to order flan or tres leche on the DoorDash menu and I wish there was!

Len L.

Yelp
Not bad of a place to grab a quick bite. the taco's here are not too bad for the price, it is a little better than taco bell, but then taco bell is not really considered an authentic Mexican restaurant. Specials of the day's are usually posted by the front door, they usually have Tuesday $1 tacos (beef or chicken w/ lettuce and tomato - and it is tasty) that I take advantage of in this downward economy. There is plenty of metered and residential parking but be aware that when there is a White Sox game, you require a parking permit or you will be given a parking ticket.

Carol K.

Yelp
Taqueria la Mexicana is a little spot tucked into a building just west of Halsted on 35th. As you walk in- you are reminded of a diner with a short counter with a few stools and simple table, chairs and a few booths inside. On the night we were there- there were only two guys working the place, the cook and the "jack of all trades" guy who was the host, bartender, server and manager all at the same time. We were told to sit anywhere and chose a booth back in the corner. The menu has alot of options of menu combinations to single items to specials of the house with nothing over $10. Chips and salsa were put down in front of us and were replenished when needed. We also got some complimentary soup (sort of a pasta vegetable blend) all before we ordered. We chose simply; the Tostada combination for my friend and Tres Amigos for me (I wanted to try a little of this and that and this combo had three different items). We also ordered a beer and one of their highly touted margaritas. The food was quick to arrive and was just as quickly devoured. While tasty- I think we were both hungry enough that anything would have been quickly put away. As for the drinks? I say stick with the beer. The margarita had that overly sweet taste of a premade mix, and while strong and big (there are two sizes and the large is LARGE!) I didn't really care for it. This place is really reasonable. Dinner for two with drinks was only $28 and they take credit cards which is always a plus in my book! Since most of the bars down this way don't serve food- this will surely go on my list as a place to get cheap food fast on those nights when you need a little fill up!

Stacye T.

Yelp
Horrible food; Horrible service. Bean tasted of metallic and Flautas were burnt. Ordered Margarita on the rock only served the mixer. Food was not spicy and salsa was horrible.

C F.

Yelp
Good, HOT food, fast service and nice crew that runs the place. We frequent on Fridays after swimming and they never have a full house, but lots of delivery orders. We will continue to take advantage of the daily specials and good food!

Nicholas M.

Yelp
The margs, man. The margaritas are HUGE. And for such a decent price too. The tacos were alright but the margaritas were the real highlight at this joint. Will come back for them.

Theresa C.

Yelp
I'll give this place props for good food but the prices are outrageous. Plus they are adding 15% for COVID 19 service charge. When I questioned what that 15% paid for the waitress said it was for extra cleaning for the Covid.( I believe all restaurants should have a high standard of cleaning) I did notice when I was walking out there was a sign posted informing us of the charge but it said it is for gratuity. So to me it seems that not only did I tip the waitress 18% but she also got another 15% on top of that. Don't lie to me! You're only trying to make up for your losses. Sorry it happened and I tried to help by visiting your restaurant but I have to say that will be my last visit.

Alyssa N.

Yelp
My number one complaint when I moved to the Midwest was that there wasn't enough good Mexican food. Seriously. There are generally two options: overpriced and decent or cheap and terrible. I don't understand what makes it terrible, but people in Evanston just couldn't figure out how to do a good salsa or, really, any Mexican sauce. So when Andrew and I moved to an area close to the Mexican neighborhoods of Chicago, I was so excited. I could actually order good Mexican food and not have to make it myself? Really? I felt like life in Chicago was finally becoming the best it could be. We ordered online from La Mexicana Taqueria before and really enjoyed the steak and chicken tacos. But, there's such a difference between food that's been sitting for 15-30 minutes while on its way to you and food straight out of the oven, so we decided to actually visit this place a week or two ago. SERVICE The workers were incredibly nice and did a nice job of hitting the right balance between giving good service and checking in too much. They made sure we were taken care of, but also left us to enjoy our dinners. DRINKS I got a pina colada, because there was a $5 special for them, and Andrew got a margarita, because he loves his margaritas. It came in such a cute glass! The pina colada was a little too sweet for me, and I made a note not to order just based on specials next time, because I probably would have been happier with a margarita. Andrew thought his margarita was good -- nothing special, but a substantial amount of alcohol, which was nice. DINNER I ordered a steak burrito suizo -- with rice and beans, of course, because it's my favorite part of Mexican food. I know that's silly, since they aren't very complicated, but they're delicious. The dinner was so good -- really, everything I look for in a Mexican meal. The burrito had really nice cilantro and onion flavors cooked into the steak. Delicious. Of course, along with the rice and beans, it was way too much food for me to finish, so I had to save half of it. Luckily, when heated up in an oven for a bit, it holds up great as leftovers. As someone who frequently gets overexcited about food and has a small stomach that can't fit a lot of food in it, the quality of how it holds up for the next day is incredibly important to me. Also, the price was incredibly reasonable. $9.95 for my dinner. Not too bad. Andrew ordered the carne asada -- his favorite Mexican dish. It came cooked medium rare and he thought it was delicious. I swear, we hardly talked during dinner, because both of us were shoveling food into our mouths and thoroughly enjoying the experience. Andrew didn't take his eyes off that carne asada until it was finished. I took a piece and also thought it was yummy. His dinner was a bit more expensive, and I can't remember exactly how much it was, but I think it was around $15 or so. For what is basically a steak dinner, incredibly well-priced. I believe this is very much going to be our favorite local Mexican place. The food is delicious, reasonably priced, and the people were really nice to us when we went there. They also have good rotating specials, which makes trying new things exciting, since we can eventually branch out to something we don't usually eat and not have to spend a lot to do so. Guess we'll have to go back often so we can try everything. :)
