Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate in NYC This Week: May 13 | Eater NY

"I visited this new Jersey City Heights taqueria and loved the colorful back patio—great for hanging out or weekend mariachi bands; it’s BYOB with plenty of mixer options and says it stays open until midnight. I went for the taxos mixtos (four for $16), which offered a satisfying combination of al pastor, mushroom, and chorizo." - Eater Staff

Milpa Review - Spring Valley - Las Vegas - The Infatuation

"Milpa is a newer Mexican spot in Spring Valley that focuses on local ingredients and the highest quality heirloom corn for their in-house masa. Their signature blue corn tortillas are the celebrity of their molino (milling) concept where you can buy their masa, tortillas, and tostadas. Build your own tacos or try our personal favorite, the mushroom and squash tetela." - Milena DiFiore

Come here every couple of weeks with my boyfriend and we absolutely love everything we’ve tried. Carnitas nachos are delicious and chicharrones con guacamole are delicious. The tacos and quesadillas are great and they have BYOB!!! The watermelon mint lemonade is refreshing and they have a nice back outdoor area !! My favorite <333

Good quality American style Tex-mex (I had a burrito - can’t speak for other dishes). Great location in the heights. Nice outdoor seating area.

Probs the worst Mexican food I’ve had in a while…Taco Bell is a better choice IMO. Got a chicken burrito and it was dryer than anything. I asked for queso fundido on the side and they brought shredded cheese…? Flavorless. The one redeeming moment was the chips and guac were good.

Lovely addition to the Heights! Only complaint is that my tortilla chips were stale. But tacos, flautas and horchata were delicious. Can’t wait to come back and try more things on the menu. BYOB and backyard is nice and welcoming.

Our Overall experience here was excellent! The food was good and the staff were friendly. The vibe of this place is the best part. I love the outside space, super comfy and very authentic and beautiful. Waitress took our order within five minutes, the food came out in 10 minutes and everything we had was delicious! The green salsa was very flavorful and flautas were tasty (the cheese could have been melted a little longer). The staff was super friendly and the decorations are awesome. I should also mention that they were very busy so I hope they bring in lots more business. I will definitely be going back!

We were really excited to try this new place in the neighborhood. The outdoor patio space is awesome but unfortunately the food and service are not great. The only food we liked were the chips and guac. There are much better options for tacos in the heights

Google
Lovely indoor and outdoor spaces, so charming and colorful. Food is amazing with really great sauces. The side of corn was the best I’ve had in a while and the flautas were incredible. Comes out quickly. Love the horchata and non-alcoholic margarita. We always devour our food here!

I came here for my birthday dinner. The food and drinks were fresh and delicious. The service was quick and amazing. My kids loved it I will be coming back for the outdoor seating. The tortillas were freshly made and the guacamole and chicharones was the best item. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Cute little restaurant. We ate inside in the front area because we went on a colder fall day, but I heard the restaurant has a really nice backyard too.We ordered Al Pastor Burrito, Guacamole con chicharon and Fish Tacos, and the burrito was by far the most delicious of the three. The guac con chicharon was good and as expected, and the fish tacos were unfortunately quite dry and bland. They do have good red and green salsas. Service was quick on a Saturday for lunch, there were only a couple other parties dining in. Plenty go open tables still available.

Yelp
The carnitas was my favorite of the three tacos tonight. I also got al pastor and nopal. La Milpa has a phenomenal spicy red sauce. I appreciate the late hours and speedy delivery.

Yelp
Second time here and it still exceeded our expectations. Such well made tacos with so much flavor and a bang for your buck. The churros are by far my favorite. The backyard area creates a cozy and homey vibe and staff is super attentive and give great recommendations. Awesome spot to have nearby!

Yelp
I usually avoid restaurants for a few months after they open, or if i go early I'll leave a positive review baring an extraordinary disaster. La Milpa Taqueria is a great example of my approach paying off; after waiting two months since my second not so great visit, I had a great meal in their backyard. I have been dying to have a dog friendly restaurant like this walking distance from my place, and am so excited they seem to be off to a good start. Having tried the fish and shrimp tacos last visit, I went for the vegetarian options for my recent meal. Vegetarian tacos are usually not available, or nopal (cactus) which i'm not a fan of. I was very happy to see two options on the menu, mushroom or black bean avocado. The mushroom taco was so good and a must if you are a mushroom lover. I particularly liked that the mushrooms where grilled and not fried, it really seemed like a healthy taco! The black bean avocado taco was good, also healthy... maybe a little less flavor then the mushrooms. In addition to the tacos I had the Queso Flautas, which came 4 to an over and were good. I'd love to see a plain potato flauta option, and a flauta plate (with rice and beans) option on the menu too. My fella had the birria queso tacos and said they were good. Service was attentive and quick and as always, they were so nice to my pup and brought her some ice water. If you haven't dinned at La Milpa in the past few weeks, come back and give it another try!

Yelp
Got two $16 burritos delivered and both were missing sour cream and guac. So yea, I had some dry chicken, rice and lettuce in a tortilla. Cool

Yelp
I was so excited to try La Milpa Taqueria, as I have enjoyed the food at their sister restaurant, The Franklin, and was eager for a new dining spot to open in the Heights. I had seen pictures of their cute backyard in advance, which we sadly were unable to enjoy due to rain. Instead, we sat at a table in their casual, yet charming, indoor dining area. The menu was more of a simple list than a detailed depiction of each item. For instance, there was no mention on the taco toppings, and even the young staff did not seem completely sure of how to respond to our inquiry on the topic. We wound up starting with Chips and Salsa, as that was very straightforward. The chips were perfectly salted, but were greasy and over-fried. The warm salsa was delicious, however. In addition, I ordered the Tacos Mixtos, which allowed me to select 4 tacos of my choice from their extensive taco menu for $16. I decided on 2 shrimp, 1 chicken, and 1 mushroom taco. My feelings on the quality of each was also "mixtos"...The Mushroom taco used canned mushrooms and was extremely bland. The Chicken version was much better, as it had hints of spice and smoke. However, both of these were only topped with WAY too many diced onions; they really could have used more varied toppings. The Shrimp tacos at least had a crema and some red cabbage included, which definitely made those more enticing. However, they also had a load of shaved red onion. Essentially, all of the tacos I tried (including my companion's steak ones), had perfectly executed proteins, but a lack of color, fresh vegetables, or any sort of seasoning. The soft tortillas seemed to be made of corn, but had little flavor and were more like thick flour ones. Sure, I was provided salsa verde, but even that could not add enough flavor to make these tacos super memorable; they were just OK. We agreed that La Milpa Taqueria provided a decent experience at affordable prices, worthy of stopping in if we were in the area, but we did not feel compelled to make an immediate return visit.

Yelp
Saw this place finally opened a week or two ago so we had to try it! We weren't super hungry so a few tacos seemed perfect. The girls working were very friendly and helpful right off the bat. The backyard area is beautifully set up and relaxing. They really put a lot of effort into everything here. We had the al pastor, lengua, chorizo, and shrimp tacos. All were great!

Yelp
New to the area and have been searching for a great taco spot that compares to Esse Taco in Williamsburg. Went to The Franklin right across the street and decided to order the Carnitas Tacos. They were so amazing I asked the waiter and he said the chef owns both La Milpa and The Franklin. Checked out La Milpa the next day and it was the best decision I made so far. If you're looking for an authentic taco spot in the area this is it. The tacos Nopal were amazing.

Yelp
This place is legit, great fish taco and the berria is amazing. Wait staff is a bit slow but kind, great place for kids with a large outdoor patio. And don't forget it's BYOB!!!

Yelp
Very friendly staff and the place is new. Shrimp tacos were good and so was the guac. I've been to Chofi and love their Birria tacos. They take out all the big chunks of fat. I wish this place would do that. It makes the taco much better. I honestly wouldn't order these again due to all of the fat. My girl thought the flautas were good the first time but the second they had way too much crema. Also - the consommé here is not as rich and flavorful. I do hope they make some small changes here and there and are successful here in the heights.

Yelp
Once again Chef Jaime did not disappoint. We have loved the Franklin since moving to Jersey City and when we found out he opened La Milpa we were very excited. La Milpa is the closest we can get to authentic Mexican food. Being from San Diego it's hard to even find good Mexican food in the east coast but this was amazing. I love everything in the menu and this is our third time here. Will definitely come back and bring our family and friends. Thank you Chef Jaime for making amazing authentic dishes.

Yelp
The reason I give it a 4 stars is because the tables were so sticky that my skin was stuck but still here is a great place and the tortas is so good and scenery is cool

Yelp
Amazing food! Value for money. Service is great too. One of my favorite Mexican restaurant.

Sandy R.

Yelp
A Mexican restaurant that has "run out" of chips by 7 pm on a Saturday is either unexpectedly slammed or badly managed. Since there was nobody there when we arrived, leaning toward latter. The outdoor space is lovely: spacious, colorful with beautiful plantings and atmospheric lighting. The food (tacos al pastor and chicken burrito bowl) was unfortunately dry and bland. The burrito bowl ($16) also came in a 6 inch bowl, the size you might choose to give cereal to a 5 year old. Might have been filling enough had we been able to order some chips and guac to start? I really want to root for a place in the Heights with such great ambiance but the food was sadly disappointing.

Yelp
The Mexican restaurant our neighborhood needed! Amazing, authentic Mexican food, I especially love their Birria Tacos. The staff is super friendly and their backyard is very nice to sit in. Their inside seating is very cute as well. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Worst delivery ever. Ribeye tacos are missing ingredients in flimsy packaging so food is every

Yelp
This place is so cute. Inside and out. Love the outside area. Hopefully they put some heaters out so diners can enjoy in the cooler weather. Good food and our server was so pleasant.
