La Monarca Bakery & Cafe

A very welcoming place. It's cozy, chill, and just the right amount of good ambiance. The employees (afternoon/night shift) are very nice and attentive. I grabbed a birria mini burrito with a side of mexican hot chocolate and mini conchitas. Very delicious. Definitely will try to come back since I live far from here.

Visit after the reviling of Fernando Valenzuela Mural by Vargas. Best coffee. Cafe del Carmen, it was delicious. I have to say i loved it better than starbucks. I am planning on my second visit. Just wish I had one closer.

Had never been here. Decided to try it out after a visit to the vet down the street. It was real nice inside. Had seating available. They didn't rush me to order and they were very friendly. The coffee was great! I like that it wasn't overly sweet like some of the other places that have flaored coffee. It was almost the perfect amount of coffee and sweetness where you don't lose both. Would definitely recommend trying this place out.

This Lost Angel while wandering through Boyle Heights on the corner of First and Boyle sit at a table on the side walk listening to the mariachi's warm up at this cozy little bakery full of wonderfully delicious treats. Cinnamon and coffee with cream fill out the pallet as we sip gratefully for the women inside who made it for me. Thank you for the hospitality, ladies. If you are looking to spend time in Boyle grab a pastry and a cake to take to that party. Will be back whenever we are on this part of the world. Apparently there are 12 locations lots of opportunities to try the massive array of diverse treats. God is good. @storweexpansion

I was at their other location in S Pasadena and had a pleasant experience. Wanted to try this specific location because building exterior was so appealing! It’s located right across the Mariachi Plaza with cool murals around it. Since the bakery has wide and tall windows facing the plaza, you can get a pretty view while sipping their Latin style coffee drinks. Their service was amazing, quiet and spacious enough. You can sample their cakes (wish I knew that sooner), and oh boy, they have good selection of Latin style pastries, cakes, cookies, drinks, and organic cocoa beans and coffee beans (smelled amazing..!!) I got their tres leches latte and it was good. It was sweeter on the bottom part, make sure you stir/shake it.

Purchased a Rosca de Reyes through Uber Eats from this location, worst decision. Item was stale and dry. The dough was not prepared properly or left to rise correctly as it was dense and flat. Not worth it. Bolillo would have honestly tasted better, and it would have been cheaper too. Please spend your money on mom and pop shops that can do better, not at La Moarcha Bakery. Side note, the baby Jesús was taller than the Rosca...

Faux Mexican cafe bakery. The stereotypical music gets on your nerves quickly. The coffee is decent and priced like a big chain coffee shop. They also have Mexican pastries, quiche, juices and other snacks to compliment your coffee. I got a chocolate concha for 90 cents. Seating is good with a few quirky spots. Fills up quickly. 15 min parking next to shop. I'll come back, the latte was fine.

I stopped by to try out this place. I always pass by it on my way to my bfs house and I've seen multiple people post about it. I ordered a small iced horchata latte and a mini concha. The concha was super soft and very spongy. I hate when conchas are more and the harder side and taste grainy. The sweet sugar topping on the concha was super good. The latte was tasty, i would have liked it to be a bit more on the creamy side. It was a little on the watery side but never the less very good.

All the cake for bar... Polvorones Sugar Cookies that happen to be vegan by default. Amazing serving options + birthday candles... With delivery options including DoorDash and UberEats - You win! I searched for bakeries on Yelp like there was no tomorrow mainly for a variety of styles, but I had a feeling Tres Leches would be the way to go. I knew very little about La Monarca prior to diving into desserts near DTLA. Cross referencing and seeking out foodie local recommends I ultimately narrow choices down to Delicias in Highland Park, but they close at 3PM daily and La Monarca which has location all over SoCal and is an L.A. gem I'm grateful for. They follow all request to perfection #QualityService and made this three milk moist dense birthday cake my boyfriend will never forget. This chic cute bakery with exception service online, over the phone and I'm sure in-person as well is one that will stay with me. We had the cake delivered to our second/third destination (see pics) and walked our leftovers to our final stop for the night and shared more cake and cookies (including cinnamon) with a few good friends as well as patrons at the club. Thanks for making special occasions and cravings better La Monarca Bakery & Cafe, especially you Boyle Heights :)

I got the Breakfast Burrito, it comes with soy chorizo, breakfast potatoes, cheddar cheese & scrambled eggs. Incredible. I'd get it over & over again. There's a salsa that comes with it on the side & I was wish I knew what kind it was (I initially thought habanero) because it was really really good. I also ordered the Oatchata Latte, which was oatmilk, real Mexican cinnamon with a shot of organic Oaxaca reserve coffee. Super duper good. I got the medium, which was around 16oz. That wasn't the only latte I had my eyes on, the Tres Leches almost got ordered!! We got there just in time because the line got long around the time we ordered. The service was quick, the wait on the order wasn't long at all. The staff was nice. There was so much to choose from, I didn't even get to the pastries!

I paid alot for a large just for them to fill the cup with ice and less of the drink i got. I ordered another one and did the same thing for a small drink. Waste of my money with less of what they give.

Cafe Oaxaca is My go to. Always clean and authentic smells . Breads are always tasty. Nice place to people watch and enjoy a hot beverage

The drinks here are amazing. Their coffee is the best I've ever had. My kid used to go to a school nearby and we'd stop and get a cookie and a coffee afterward. Delicious.

Ordered the Vanilla Fresh fruit cake slice. Was disappointed. Not sure if the slices cake are fresh as it was like dry cake tried to be moistened with some kind of liquid, maybe from fruit which seemed to be 2 slices of canned peaches? Nothing like the picture with blueberry and other fruits

Thank you so much to Mellie & crew for hooking it up with two coffee travelers & a catering tray of mini pan dulce /conchas! I called the morning of and they said they could pull it together no prob. Website says though to call days in advance - so best to do that especially for bigger orders. They say the to go carafes / travellers are for up to 12 but we found it stretched to 20 using the small cups they provide. Definitely ask for more cups when you pick up. They have many diff milk options for the sides. The refreshments gave folks LIFE at an early morning event. Definitely now a go to.

Today I went there for dd delivery pick up. All the staff were super friendly and nice. They said the order will take a bit longer. I waited around 10 minutes then they handed the order. Also they gave me free piece of cake for waiting. It was really delicious and heart touching. Thank you guys!!

I ordered 3 chocolates with avena I have laryngitis so it was hard to speak over the phone . I said 3 the lady turned around said No dos ... I said it's ok it's is too late to make 3 miscommunication on my part ( I'm barely whispering ) the cashier told another lady to do another one and she rolled her eyes . I said sorry for the trouble don't mean to make your work harder it's ok just cancel my order please... the cashier had already charged me so I didn't like it I told her cancel it and give me a refund. She kindly said she's making it . I told her I didn't like her rolling her eyes it's ok I don't want to cause and inconvenience. I opened my wallet for a tip but then I said nope got my 3 drinks and I left . I understand Spanish very well I could barely speak ... I'm sorry of the confusion but the attitude was not necessary. The ladies aren't friendly the cashier was We all need a job and in this economy atleast a smile doesn't cost a thing and this chocolate - Avena drink is not cheap either . I didn't even get a receipt !

Finally made it in! My mom and I were craving an iced cafe de olla and decided to stop by. They have a wonderful variety of pan dulce and other pastries. They also sell packaged coffee to enjoy at home! I've had their cafe de olla before both hot and iced and it's always been delicious. This time it wasn't as good and I don't understand why it was so complicated to order. We saw they offer it blended and wanted ti try it but were told because of the ice and preparation it loses flavor and doesn't have all the ingredients a traditional cafe de olla has. The barista recommended over ice so that's what we got. She asked if we wanted milk and sweetener. I asked for one with milk and the other without but both sweetened. However what we were given were both coffees having milk and neither having sweetener. I don't mind the milk but definitely wanted the sweet flavor that a typical cafe de olla has. When I asked the barista she said the iced cafe de olla isn't normally sweetened....even though A) I've had it pre-sweetened before and B) she even asked me if I wanted it and I said yes. Sad to say the coffee was weak. Will still be back but maybe just stick to the hot cafe de olla. Overall the baristas were nice. And the coffee shop was clean and had seating both indoors and outdoors. Huge negative is that there is absolutely NO PARKING. Drive around a few times and ended to having to park a few blocks away.

THIS IS MY GO-TO SPOT FOR COFFEE AND PAN DULCE. The cafe de olla is amazing. I always go with a concha, oreja, or one of their cookies. You cannot go wrong with anything on their menu. Baristas Oscar and Maria are always so kind and attentive to customers. Lastly, in a time when Starbucks' everywhere are closing their dining areas and blocking their outlets, La Monarca continues to provide a nice workspace away from home.

SIMPLY AMAZING! Literally everything in this bakery is delicious! Idk if it's homemade but it tastes better than my moms and grandmas food combined! My go to coffee shop! Service was outstanding! Friendly customer service! The ambiance is like being back home with grandma. Chill!

Wonderful Customer service, they are friendly and food so bomb! I had to come again coz their lattes got me hooked! I tried the Tres Leche latte & today the Horchata latte and all I can say is OMG! The sausage breakfast biscuit is phenomenal!

Came across this cute little cafe / corner bakery near down town LA. Right across from the mariachi corner. So glad I decided to drop in and try it. You know I'm big on customer service and this place does not disappoint! As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with smiles, and such warmth from all the employees. They have all the Mexican favorites. I tried their Horchata latte, Yum. couldn't leave without tasting the pan dulces , yum yum. The molletes, Yum yum yum and my favorite was the wedding cookies, yummiest ! They open early and close late so I'll definitely be coming back. If you're looking for a taste a Mexico , amazing treats , great coffee and excellent customer service, you found it . La Monarca bakery and cafe.

I have always been a fan of La Monarca since I worked by the one in Hollywood. I recently move to the neighborhood and this has become my go-to coffee spot. The service is great, coffees great, and you can't beat the mollete for a quick and cheap breakfast option. The windows overlook mariachi plaza so it's a great place to sit and have your coffee.

The sweetest staff. Spoke with Maria y Oscar for a bit. They sell the cutest conchitas and the best horchata latte I've ever had. They have a good selection of other bakery products. Would love to come back!

My coworker and I decided to walk here to get dessert. We couldn't figure out which to get and Gloria behind the counter was so helpful and offered us some samples! We ended up getting the strawberry and mocha cakes and some coffees. Overall, excellent and would totally come back again. Gloria was great!

We tried the Tres Leches Cake, the cake it's worth the price, it's fresh and you cake taste the fresh ingredients. The only down side is that they don't provide a cake cutter. My goal is to ultimately try all their cakes, most definitely will be ordering again!

Came in for some cafecito and pan dulce not knowing this Monarca Bakery is located in a historic building. The exterior is eye catching. The baristas took their time in explaining the differences between the coffees I was interested in. Had a Horchata latte that hit the spot and a dulce de leche croissant. Yumm :)

I have been coming here since this location opened years ago. The cafe de olla is always fresh and the cinnamon cookies are my favorite. What makes this Monarca location stand out above all other is their customer service reps that are always smiling, service oriented and always willing to answer questions. La Monarca is a Los Angeles staple... This Bakery has been around forever and has Everything from delicious coffee, baked goods to lunch time snacks and sandwiches... I have heard of La Monarca, but have not had a chance to try it until a few weeks ago... There are several locations throughout the LA area, so if you come across one I recommend stopping by to try one of their speciality drinks or a sweet treat... The 1st time I went I only got an Ice tres leches latte, and it was amazing... It was the perfect combination of strong and sweet... I was tempted by all the bread and cake options they had so I knew I had to go back another time to try some of the baked goods... The second time I went I tried the Cafe Oaxaca and got a variety of baked goods... I was there early in the morning and it was busy, so if you going during their rush hours be prepared to wait for your drinks and order... They use great quality products because you can tell in the taste of their coffee and breads... Everything taste fresh and is so good... The employees at this location were very nice and helpful, I asked for recommendations and they were able to give me the top favorite drinks... I will definitely be going back to try more of their speciality drinks and pastries...

Once you walk into this store, the place looks so welcoming. I was met and greated by Oscar, who was really humble and attentive. Great selection of comfort food. Everything looks so appetizing. Maria on the back right away made my order with a smile. Pleased to have places that make you feel comfortable and welcomed, especially the rainy days. Rainy days are always good for coffee and conchas.

First time at this location and what a pleasant experience. We were greeted by Gloria and the rest of the friendly staff. We had a mollete and both breakfast biscuits and I really think the sausage biscuits was amazing highly recommend it! It was the perfect start to a rainy morning.

LA MONARCA María, que trabaja por la tarde, es muy buena con el servicio al cliente. Este tipo de servicio hace que las personas se conviertan en clientes recurrentes. Y los productos de panadería son siempre frescos y muy buenos. Me encanta venir aquí todos los días por que son muy amables pero me agrada cuando está María por que es una súper excelente persona nos atiende súper bien y muy amables Café de olla...muy bueno! vale la pena darse un capricho una vez a la semana.

Great Mexican bakery with delicious coffee/drinks and pastries! Service and ambiance were friendly and inviting.

Possibly the worst cake i have ever tasted in my life. It was old and inedible the cake was stale on top and soggy at the bottom. The frosting tasted rancid and had a metallic copper after taste like it had been sitting in a fridge for too long. I usually don't leave bad reviews but I feel disrespected and disgusted with there service.

This one is the best Monarca because it was built inside an old building from the 1800's... therefore I classify it as better because in the older times stuff looked better and was of better quality, unlike the people I meet in my life... BAM Ok roasted some random strangers you would never meet, but older timey buildings can be the bees knees! when it comes to exterior looks. I love the look BABY! I'm even interested in renting the apartment above it, just for the homey cozey feel and the view! wow the city skyline right behind it! Just has the cozey feel when you are walking around Mariachi town at night, and want to get away from unsavory attention, and into a savory bakery! C WHAT I DID! or use the restroom (buy like a 90 cent pastry to use it) and enjoy and interesting hispanic mixed coffee choice.. .I got some oat latte, mixed with cinnamon and mexican chocolate... it was good! Also I got mocha cake. I ate it inside of course because it was night out, and I wanted to feel cozy, in an area that is not so cozy, so its got a GREAT contrast to the environment! Not sure if I'd live in that area for long, depending on how people can be at night around Boyle heights, but hey! In the comments let me know. La Monarca! Great cozy place I love it, will be back just to rest and drink coffee, even surf the web its that good to inside there!

Service was good. The croissant perfection. The pineapple pastry was not my favorite.

The matchata was delectable. I got it and literally drank it SO fast! Oscar and Maria were amazing and great customer service. Very friendly! 10/10 would recommend! It's in the cutest location too right across mariachi plaza.

I ordered a chipotle bacon breakfast burrito and it was awful. They are pre-made and I guess they warm it up on the grill so it was burned and hard and I didn't taste any chipotle, Definitely not worth $7.99. You're better off going to Jim's for a breakfast burrito or even McDonald's. The pastries are so so.
