The 25 Best Restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico | Eater

"Tacos La Mucca is the taquería project of chef Joel Ornelas, of Tintoque and El Puerco de Oro, and chef Alejandro Castellanos, the head taquero at La Mucca. Start with the botana section with headcheese aguachile, a meaty rendition of the mariscos classic. The order of escabeche comes packed with tiny pickled potatoes and carrots, and it’s topped with pickled pork skin. The sopes, meanwhile, come slathered with refried beans and jocoque (a labneh-like cultured cream), and arrive with spicy salsa de molcajete, just like you’d have it if you grew up in Vallarta. But perhaps the most iconic taco at La Mucca is Puerto Vallarta’s own regional taco, the taco arriero, which consists of about three regular-sized tacos worth of carne asada on a thick handmade tortilla, all draped with melted cheese, beans, and minced cabbage. The arriero originated in La Aurora, a working-class neighborhood, where it was meant to fill customers up at the end of a work day. La Mucca elevates the arriero with tortillas made from local heirloom corn and wood-fired Angus beef." - Paola Briseño-González

This establishment stands out as my preferred taqueria in the city. It has successfully retained the authentic charm of a local taqueria, and its location, far from being a drawback, significantly contributes to the overall exceptional experience. Upon our arrival, the chef was meticulously preparing fresh blue corn tortillas, while the rest of the team was actively engaged in grilling, chopping, and mixing ingredients. The venue exudes an unpretentious atmosphere, and the ambiance is genuinely local. We sampled a variety of tacos, and they consistently delivered an elevated and truly delectable experience, as anticipated. I highly recommend trying the Tostilocos. This is a gourmet interpretation of a popular street snack, typically featuring Taquitos or sometimes Doritos. The bag is opened to serve as a bowl, and it is then filled with carne asada and chorizos, drizzled with salsa and cheese. For those with an adventurous palate, I suggest exploring the lengua, pork snout, and bone marrow tacos or quesadillas. Additionally, I strongly advise ordering the margaritas; my tamarindo selection was absolutely superb. I eagerly anticipate my return to explore more of their diverse offerings.

AMAZING tacos! This is our second time here and can confirm - the food, the service, and the atmosphere here are INCREDIBLE. This time we had the tostidos appetizer, the mucca and special taco of the week, the cheesecake desserts as well as some cocktails and all were incredible delicious and service was fast. When we told our server we had been here in the past she was so sweet and spoiled us with some special mezcal and a mexico-city style pineapple kombucha, which made our evening even better. We will be back again! Sorry - no photos of the tacos because we are them so quickly!

First visit here. Selena and team were on point from hello to goodbye. Tacos were super amazing, good value, we shared two and loved both - take your choice, everything is 100% awesome. Margarita with a hibiscus salt rim?? That's a great touch. Lifted the experience for sure. Perfecto! Dessert was cheesecake, by itself it was ok, but after Selena adding a fruit topping it was terrific! Go here, eat here, tip well - they do an amazing job and yum yum yum!

At the risk of sounding like a TV show, you gotta eat here! I love the street food tacos that abound in PV, but sometimes you want something jazzed up. The chorizo tacos and the bone marrow taco were delectable, juicy, and bursting with flavour. I loved the sauces that covered the gordita. So glad we decided to try somewhere new and a bit off the beaten path. Cocktails are refreshing and delicious. Prices are very reasonable...in between the taco stands and most other sit-down restos.

Easily my favourite taco restaurant in PV! When a place has a small menu you know every single item on it is their specialty, and it really shows here. Amazing flavours, incredible meats, perfect and super friendly and welcoming service, and the atmosphere is flawless. Go here and you won't regret it. A true 💎 of a restaurant!

The best bite we had in Puerto Vallarta! The tacos were incredible, so flavorful, and the tortillas were made fresh to order. The vibe of the space was very fun and hole in the wall feeling. The staff was so nice and kind. We had margaritas that were excellent too. 10/10 and highly recommend!

Hidden gem and women owned. The chef, Selma, is passionate about cooking. She makes the most delicious chorizo and carne tacos with fresh hand pressed tortillas and salsas. Excellent service and plenty of tables for small and large groups.

Venture off the toursit track just slightly and you will find this place. Best food we had in PV. Owner and staff we're so kind and it was clear how much they love what they do. Can't wait to come back.
