No-frills neighborhood destination for Cuban pastries, sandwiches, elaborate cakes & party platters.
"If you put swimsuits on the pastelitos from Nueva Fe, you’d think they were part of a tanning ad campaign. The golden exterior shimmers from all the butter that’s folded into the pastry dough. The outcome is a pastelito so delicate, the flakes start trickling down with nothing but a stern look. It has an edge-to-edge guava-to-pastry ratio that makes each bite gooey and crispy. If you want to introduce a newcomer to the pastelitoverse, this is a perfect example of how a great one looks and tastes." - mariana trabanino, virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer
"La Nueva Fe is an old school Cuban bakery in Hialeah. They specialize in traditional cakes and sweets, including some of the best buñuelos we’ve ever had. The twists of fluffy cassava dough are fried and then drenched in rich housemade anise syrup. But don’t be fooled by their simplicity, these buñuelos are the only ones we’ve had that have ever come close to Abuela-approved status. They also have great fried empanadas. The ham and cheese ones are the best, using a perfect ratio of ground ham to queso fresco. " - Yuliet Llanes
