The Best Sonoran Hot Dogs in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"What started as the Sandez family’s lone truck in 1998 has grown into two rigs and four brick-and-mortar shops, all serving Sonoran dogs with a touch of Sinaloa. The $5.50 base version stays traditional; the Sinaloa stacks on nacho cheese and crushed Ruffles. The Chile Queso wraps an Anaheim pepper in mozzarella and tucks the dog inside before the whole thing hits a jumbo bun. Even on weeknights, the grill keeps moving and the orders don’t let up, so diners should plan ahead and come early if they can." - McConnell Quinn

Google
Omg! It was my first Sonoran hot dog and I am in ❤️! I don't even like hot dogs that much but this was absolutely delicious! We will definitely come here again!

Don N.

Google
This was our first time eating the world famous Sonora hotdog...it was incredible! We actually ate several types of their 'dogs and loved them all, but the Sonora did stand out. We also had their delicious carne asada fries...excellent! We will definitely be back. I believe our was approximately $28 and we'll worth it....actually one hotdog apiece is more than filling and their customer service was excellent...friendly and very helpful in pointing us to the best items. Enjoy!

Joel N.

Google
My name is Joel always there for sonora hot dog they are so good cant get enough. I do appreciate the service and keep up the great job

Dave H.

Google
The bread/bun that the place uses is very good and really sets off the hotdog. I had both the Sonora and the Sinaloa and loved both of them. I always loved chili hotdogs but these are now my #1 if I decide to have a hotdog. Service was fine and food was put out at a reasonable time. I got these to go but would have loved to try their desserts such as flan and fresas con crema.

Adventure_With_Purpose T.

Google
Delicious absolutely one if my favorite Sonoran Hot Dogs in Phoenix, the bun is deeper too, love how they fill it with toppings and the flavors mesh perfectly, mouth watering just remembering, we'll be back

Stefanie G.

Google
This restaurant is tucked away behind a pizza place and unless you know it's there you're likely to drive right by. There was only one person ahead of us but we had to wait a while to get our food. It was tasty, no complaints! The restaurant itself was pretty plain but it was clean so what more do you need? 😉

Jim M.

Google
Food taste good. Arizona (top) is definitely the best of the two. Chihuahua (bottom) was cheesy. The only down fall is the price (over $4 for each). The hot dog it self its small and a costco size hot dog would definitely make up for the price and balance the size of the bun and toppings.

Google
OMG this was to die for!! The best. Fresh. Everything. I had sopa de queso. Sinaloa hotdog fresas con creams are the best EVER!! my family took up most of the little place but so worth it. 🥰😍😍

DeAnn T.

Yelp
We do not speak Spanish .... So there were communication issues, we did not get what we wanted, to much trouble to fix. Hot dogs were just OK.... For the 36.00 we spent for 2 hot dogs and 1 drink.... We should have had amazing hot dogs .... Would not recommend this place.

Yelp
Let's just say this place needs work. So I'll start with the young man in the back cooking. Watching us for about 7 mins before he eventually gets tired of me looking back at him with a very puzzled look. I was just wondering where the front cashier would be hiding. Eventually she comes from the back. Then tells us hold on.... Well hello to you too! By this time I am already turned off and want nothing to do with this place. Boyfriend is Hangry so he decides to order a Dog! So long story kind of long. The Azrizona dog was missing ingredients and was not wrapped in Bacon like it says! He said pretty basic. Definately wont be back nothing special to see or taste here!

Yelp
This place is not a safe place to eat at. . There are all sorts of druggies here. As soon as my friends and family pulled in, the men and women looked like zombies. The tacos we good according to my husband. But, the sonoran hot dogs are cold and not good at all. This place is not a place to take your family to, unless you know them.
google avatar

Yelp
The food! Paid almost $30 for 2 hot dog combos with two bottle water and one of the combo dogs I ordered didn't have the bacon wrapped hot dog which was clearly mentioned on the menu. Service was ok wasn't busy because they just opened... ambience was beautiful. Idk, I'll make it my own hot dog combo next time I crave it.

Yelp
Great place, we hadn't been to it in a while and we were very pleased. We will definitely be going again. Only tried the Sonoran hot dogs and they were good.

Yelp
I don't make it to this side of town that often (West Phoenix) but on the way back from a road trip I told myself to check out my bookmarks and low and behold, La Pasadita hotdog was something that was perfect and in the mood for late Sunday The place is right at 83rd St. but it actually is off by a block on the side next to a Papa Pizza place which on this day had a bunch of people coming in and out it's like a little Caesars. Anyway, the place is small but has some tables inside along with the television and the menu is pretty straightforward for you to order. Decided to go with the Carne Asada french fries along with two Sonoran dogs and another one with jalapeño sauce on it. One of the things that I did like is the way that the bun was toasted versus being a basic hotdog on the other one but the Sonoran dog was so mellow and good. It can be a bit messy but you know with all the fixin's on it, it's bound to be. Prices are reasonable and it hit the spot but I wanted a bit more from the actual hot dog... I wanted it to have a crisp to it or some type of "beefiness" to it but it didn't. I've had a few from trucks around the valley and would come again, but I want an upgrade on the type of dog being used to really get the most out of it.

Aurora P.

Yelp
My partner and I love this place!!! We've been to both locations and the food is not only delicious but consistent!! The staff is always friendly and fast. We recommend the combo #1, two hot dog, two fries, two drinks! They have lots of seating inside and outside, even a cute greenery wall to take some picture. Highly recommend you stop by
google avatar

KK H.

Yelp
Very clean and excellent service! Fresh hot and fast food!! The staff is very polite and I felt very welcomed! The cashier explained the menu to me and I was grateful because I can't read Spanish!!

Yelp
We were on cross country road trip from California to East Coast. Never heard of this place and thought we would give it a go. DON'T WASTE YOUR $$ The Tortilla soup was like water slightly colored..no taste, with very little avocado and some weird substance looked like tofu. GROSS Also had elotes, even grosser. Husband got hot dog that was the worst.
google avatar

Robert W.

Yelp
Arizona dog was amazing. Probably the best part was the bun. I dont think ive had a hot dog bun so good before.
google avatar

Adriana C.

Yelp
Found the truck across the street from Fry's on 107th and Indian school and so glad we tried it! I honestly have never had a Sonoran hot dog before. I got the Sonoran hot dog with no mayo or onion cuz I hate both and my bf got his with it and they were AMAZINGGG! Literally to die for. We also got the carne Asada fries and they were just ehh the first time we tried it. The next time we tried it my bf asked them to add jalapeño sauce, grilled onions, and tomatoes and it added so much more flavor to it! Reasonably priced and the hot dogs are about $3.50 each. We will be back!
google avatar

Courtney H.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing delicious hot dogs and fries! We ordered here just to try one time and ended up ordering the next day 6 hot dogs to try with the whole family! We loved them thank you! Also the strawberries and crema is a must try!
google avatar

Debbie D.

Yelp
Tried this location as my son loved the hot dogs from another location. They didn't disappoint. I ordered online and when I got there, my order was ready. Again ordered Sonora style hot dogs but with toasted buns and carne asada tacos. Everything was delicious. I was greeted as I walked in, it was clean inside- I asked for extra yellow chiles and no problem. Good food, great customer service.

aj s.

Yelp
You have to try the chihuahua style dogs !! Sonoran is great and all but this one has asadero cheese and with all the toppings it's definitely the best Mexican style on the west side !! 10/10 the horchata goes off !!!
google avatar

Iliana C.

Yelp
Nice friendly people. Can't go wrong with whatever you order, so food is great. Needless to say we will be back.

Yelp
My favorite place to eat sonoran hot dogs the employees are always inviting and friendly I've been to all locations and they're all awesome. The Coctel de Elote is amazing it's a go to for me as well. When ever I'm in the are and I'm hungry this place is where I'm heading.

Ezequiel O.

Yelp
on apple maps it says it's open till one walked up and the door was locked a guy came out and stated that they were closed update your hours. VERY UNSATISFIED custy

Anahi P.

Yelp
I love the Sinaloa style hot dog, that is my go to! I love the new look and design of this location. Great service always!

Dan P.

Yelp
The food was good and the staff very helpful. The facility needs an update and some good cleaning.
google avatar

Pat S.

Yelp
Tried my first Mexican hotdogs here. So good and very messy! But if it doesn't get all over the place it doesn't belong in your face. By recommendation I got the Sonoran hotdog and the chihuahua hotdog. They looked the same to me. I had to ask which was which. Lol! Both were delicious but the chihuahua one had more flavor to me and that's the one I liked more. Two thumbs up! I approve! I'd like to go back to try the other hotdogs and the coctel elote. I can't believe I've lived in Phoenix over 20 years and this is my first Mexican hotdog I tried and this place is just 2 street lights from where I live. At my first try was good thanks to friends recommending this place.
google avatar

Kelly H.

Yelp
Best hot dog spot hands down!!!! They of course have the typical Sonoran hot dog, which was the bomb, but they had a few other choices. The chihuahua style hot dog is honestly the best I've ever had!! Super similar to Sonoran style but it has refried beans smeared on it. This is exactly what we all need in our lives right now. Service was super fast and friendly. The inside was closed but it looks like they typically have plenty of seating.

Yelp
Orden salió demasiado tarde. Llegaron otras personas después de que llegue yo y las personas que llegaron después que yo recibieron su orden antes que yo.

Altherica W.

Yelp
HORRRRRRIBBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! The lady in front was very rude and condescending. Even when I simply asked her what ONE word meant in Spanish, she looked at me like I was stupid and answered in the most rude way. She was just very irritable and her negativity spread. The lady with the blonde and brown hair, incredibly rude.

Gary C.

Yelp
Hands down the best hotdog you can get. Was visiting Phoenix area and had one and wish I could get the location I'm from.

Ari L.

Yelp
Really good hot dogs and services . I come everytime I'm in Phoenix ! 100% would recommend them
google avatar

Fred C.

Yelp
The hotdogs were very plain like they use poor quality hotdogs. We had a few different kinds and all pretty much tasted the same. Carne asada burrito wasn't that great either.

Reyes S.

Yelp
Food is to expensive they only sprinkle asada on my asada fries my food was cold not coming back forsure
google avatar

Toby D.

Yelp
These are among the best Mexican style hot dogs and fries I've had! Keep in mind this is no place to take a date! They only have a few tables inside, and the neighborhood is pretty sketchy (lots of dumpsters and stray cats nearby for some reason, but for take-out or eating in the car, it is south of the border comfort food at its best! I still dream about those endless Carne Asada Cheese Fries! They really need to to print up paper To-Go menus so people sitting in the car wouldn't have to squeeze into their tiny store to read the menu which is a little difficult for gringos to understand anyway! Very pleasant cashier.
google avatar

Brian A.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican hot dogs Very clean locally owned Now you can pay with a card more convenient
google avatar

Cassandra T.

Yelp
Hot dogs were a good size I did their meal deal comes with fries a drink and the hot dog. They offer a variety on the menu I enjoyed it!!
google avatar

Rosa C.

Yelp
Pretty disappointed, I was thinking I was going to have some delicious hot dogs based off the reviews and pictures but they were just okay, nothing special. The customer service was mehhh, walked in and the guy looked towards us but didn't get up to help us out, he stayed sitting playing with his phone for literally a few mins. Idk if he was trying to waste time so we wouldn't have the 5pm special since we walked in 5-6 mins before 5 and yeah, he didn't give it to us. Anyways, if you're looking for some really good hot dogs go to 35th ave and Indian school!
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
not a very cool layout.. very small and you get locked into the bathroom area when you go, but the dogs were awesome.. and it was my first time having these types of dogs, but I loved it.. the huns almost tasted garlic toast like.. will be back

Yelp
"Hot dogs and Red Vines and potato chips and french fries are my favorite foods." ― Betty White If hot dogs are good enough for Betty, they're good enough for me. She's the classiest! Review is for the Sonoran dog, the only thing I ate. I'm a sucker for a good Sonoran. What's not to love? At La Pasadita's, they do things a little different. The Sonoran features house-made bread, bacon [of course bacon!], beans, grilled onions, jalapeños, tomatoes, mayo, ketchup, mustard, and guacamole. I can't say I've ever had a Sonoran with ketchup and I don't think their dog really needs it but it was still all very tasty. It's a bit on the small side and I think I should have ordered two to be happy. Not the best Sonoran in the valley but definitely delicious! I would like to try their other dogs like the Chihuahua or the Sinaloa. All the more reason to be back. I wish I saw the pictures beforehand too. Seems like there's a dog topped with Ruffles and cheese. It's a small cozy place and the staff is friendly even to the awkward looking Asian girls. ;) There's a fee to use the credit card machine so cash is definitely preferred and recommended. Parking can be sketch. Look for Pizza Patron or you'll miss this place. Enjoy!

Yelp
This is salty junk food heaven. I'm still not a big fan of hot dogs in general, but anyone should try dogs like the Sonoran, with the guacamole and crushed potato chips (queso flavored!) There are also small orders of fries, ranging from carne asada to one that I swear was smothered in like 3 different kinds of peppered mayonnaise (jalapeno, chipotle, etc.) This is overkill. This is too much, even for me. It's only like $3-4 per item. You might as well go, if you've got the calories to spare.

Yelp
Love their hotdogs. Service is quick and ordering is easy. We got 2 Chihuahuas this visit. They have decent hours.

Yelp
Very good hotdog, best I've had in Phoenix. Seeing how this is a Sonoran hotdog, I have to compare them to hotdogs from the capital of Sonora, Hermosillo (called dogos there). What makes the hotdog is the bread, which is very flavorful even on its own. I give it 4 stars because in my opinion, the sausage is too small for the bread, and Sonoran hotdogs usually have bacon wrapped around the sausage (these don't). Also, if you're not familiar with the area, it might turn you off as it is located in a rowdy part of town, and many of the customers look like they're always dealing something (expensive trucks with 24" rims, 2 males watching each other's backs, weary expression, arrogant demeanor). The main attraction here is the hotdog, but they have a vast variety of other items like raspados (Mexican smoothies, coctel de elote (corn coctail- very good), tostitos with cheese and/or pico de gallo (tomato, cucumber, etc). If you get the hotdog, ask for everything except beans, because in my opinion it takes away from the favor, and NO KETCHUP, as how it is eaten in Hermosillo. And always, ALWAYS accompany with a Mexican bottled coke (you're welcome).

Loy T.

Yelp
Great hot dogs, I don't normally eat hot dogs but this place was and I took my fiancé to just to get a bite and get out the house, highly recommended the Sinaloa hotdog !
google avatar

Debbie K.

Yelp
Had the Carne Asada Tacos . Delicious. I will be back to try the hot dogs. Everything is immaculate and clean.

Katana R.

Yelp
Worsts service ever all that attitude the two lady's that help me gave me and still all my oder was wrong fuck this place worst 75 dollars I've spend in this shit hole
google avatar

Alicia V.

Yelp
Food was fast, fresh, and delicious! We had the Estila Chihuahua x3 ($3.50 ea.) each, but just after two, I was already feeling full. I also ordered the small coctel de elote ($2.44 w/tax) We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Fatboii F.

Yelp
Great service, great food!! Had the CHIHUAHUA dog and the carne asada fries, fries were simple but food was delicious!!
google avatar

Stephanie F.

Yelp
They are hand down the best hot dogs i have tried in Phoenix! My favorite one was the sinaloa one, and my Boyfriend loved the chihuhua one! Will come back for more!

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Food is ok(a little messy), service is shitty. They have the music playing as if the place was a club, and get mad because they can't hear what you are ordering lol. The dude needs to get another job or stop working.
google avatar

Arianna G.

Yelp
I love it!! If you want to try something different. Like a hot dog wrapped with bacon topped with delicious sauces. This is your place! The staff was really nice!

Cutty D.

Yelp
I used to like this place, had really good hot dogs. First time back in a while...I ordered the chihuahua dog. It was missing all the condiments, all it had was mustard, ketchup and crema. Missing the melted cheese and the guacamole....the worse part of it....one bite and I pull out a long black hair. The most disgusting thing ever. I gauged and nearly threw up. Needles to say I lost my appetite.
google avatar

Yelp
Once you've had a Sonoran Dog from El Guero Canelo in Tucson, you'll do anything to recreate the experience. I've been looking for a good Sonoran Dog since I moved back to Phoenix 10 years ago and I came to La Pasadita in my quest. Their Sonoran Dog was just okay, the wiener was small and overcooked. The star of the show is definitely the creamy corn cocktail. The service is outstanding, they make you feel their gratitude for your business.
google avatar

Oliver D.

Yelp
Small, packed, line out the door. It has all the tell tale signs of a great hole in the wall restaurant. I ordered the Sonoran dog and the asada torta. Food took about 15 minutes to get which is nothing given that it was really busy. Once it arrive I dived right into the torta first which was delicious. Next came the Sonoran dog, and boy did it deliver. Explosion of flavor with just the right amount of kick. Worth the 40 minute drive to get here, luckily I was already on this side of town!

Yelp
Not a lover of hot dogs unless it is a NY Sabaret I was beyond bewildered as to why I stopped here. More out of curiosity to try an AZ themed hot dog that my Foodie friends keep raving about. It was the Friday before Vaca and I wanted to get my junk food on in a place you would never see a Cardiologist. Ha! This place is right on the way home from school so I stopped in. Amazingly enough I actually loved the Az Hotdog. It was really good, if not good for you. I also got an order of Carne Asada fries which I could take or leave it. These are the Nachos of the fries world. I am just not a Nacho Lover. I could not taste the fries because there was so much stuff on top of them. The fries I did taste were very bland. Maybe more salt and less sauce? Maybe they are suppose to be this way and it was user error. Oh well, either way, the hot dog was pretty darn good though so check it out. I ate at the 46th ave location. There is more than one location. Heads up since they are a small local they do charge for credit and debit transactions. This is not uncommon for local businesses and I don't mind at all. However, just letting others know they do that.

Yelp
Name says it ALL it's a great Hot dog place, burrito not so great or the Asada fries. They OK but just stick to Hot dogs they delicious really recommend it. Cinthia at front end was amazing she goes out of her way to help and accommodate the customers;)
