We had an amazing pizza today, but it was a do-over b/c the toppings were so sparse that I did not accept it so the manager on duty offered to make it again. I explained to her, that that was not their standard, and their pizzas have always had a generous amount of toppings. We were grateful that she offered to make it over - that is the good service that we'll remember when we explore our choices - and there are LOTS of restaurants to choose from.
They course corrected on the do-over and actually overdid it a bit, but they weren't leaving anything to chance and wanted to please. Done and done, though I didn't ask for twice as much, just a healthy amount for a $30 pizza. However, I was advised that if I wanted what might be considered a normal, but generous amount of toppings, I would need to order double the amount next time. I guess this is the new norm here for a pizza - which last I knew was flour, olive oil, pizza sauce, cheese, 1 protein and 4 veggies.
What makes all of this so negative, is that we've been patronizing this spot for literally 25 years - since they opened! Once upon a time they were the only game in town save for just a couple other Italian - locally owned pizza restaurants. We've been loyal throughout its many owners and there have been many. We've celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and New Year's Eve fam dinners. It was our go-to spot, but like so much in this culture and economy La Pizzeria has lost its soul and its conscience.
It's been 6 months or more since we last ordered from here and after today, it will likely be as long before we patronize this place again. Dining in last time was horrible - maybe 2 years ago when they had a fly problem - we left before ordering.
