Where To Get Away From All These People - Miami - The Infatuation

"Did you know that Homestead has a beach? Technically, this solid seafood spot overlooks a shallow man-made atoll, but it’s still a peaceful waterfront view you’d never know existed unless you were really looking for it. You have to drive past several acres of palm trees and swampy greenery to get into Homestead Bayfront Park. Plus, the gigantic margaritas are under $11, which feels economically closer to Idaho than Miami. This restaurant is less about the food and more about drinking cheap cocktails on the edge of the Miami-Dade map with a near-zero chance of running into someone you know. But if you show up hungry, the crab-topped tostones, coconut shrimp, and peppery mahi mahi get the job done." - ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino

I dined here and had a mixed experience. The outdoor seating offers a lovely view of a small bay area by the ocean, which is a highlight. The blackened Mahi Mahi and plantains were delicious, bursting with flavor. However, the outdoor-only setup comes with challenges. Mosquitoes were a major issue, making it hard to enjoy the meal. They provide bug spray and have fans, but these only helped so much—bugs were still biting and even getting into my food, forcing me to leave halfway through. The table was also uneven, which was annoying. I ordered a lemonade since I was driving, but it had an odd, barely citrusy taste that didn’t feel like lemonade. The food and view are great, but the bug problem and outdoor limitations need addressing.

Google
was looking for refuge from a storm heading my way. was at Biscayne NP kayaking. This restaurant was right next door. Had a grilled snapper with fried plantains and black beans. The fish was basic...nothing special. Black beans were flavorless and watery. The plantains were great! The storm blew over.

The oysters at this beachfront restaurant are awesome. The size of them lets you enjoy them to the fullest. The rest of the menu items are also on point. If you sit at the bar, Carlo is awesome. He is very attentive and ensures your drink is perfect every time. Carlo is my main bartender! Also, the view and atmosphere is cool. Enjoy!

Google
An incredible place to enjoy with family, friends, or alone. Highly recommended. You can have a barbecue or go for a swim at the quiet, kid-friendly beach.

Google
We were there during Cinco De Mayo Celebration so the restaurant was full of energetic people and live music as well. The music and atmosphere is what grabbed us to the place. Had such a good time to listen to the musics even though we had no clue what it meant. Seeing Couples dancing, singing, and having family time seems awesome. We just got some dessert and drinks and enjoyed being there. Awesome restaurant by the park.

Google
I have to say the place exceeded my expectations. I was worried it would be too overcrowded, but it was just perfect. The food was fenomenal, like always i order a bit of everything to try all. The drinks were good, the conch fritters, coconut shrimp, the ceviche corvina & shrimp, the oysters were awesome & fresh. The desserts were also perfection. The atmosphere priceless, didnt even know there was live music which was just perfect, played from slow old to new salsa just great. Safe place to have the kids by the pool & the adults enjoying some good food. Our waitress was MARY GALLO, definitely will return & ask for her, she was on top of our needs always bringing the next drink right before we were done & always making sure we were ok.

Yelp
First came here for drinks and loved the views of the ocean. We had some tostones appetizers with shrimp that were tasty and my.Sangira pitcher did it's job. We came back over the weekend for dinner and enjoyed raw oysters that were cold and juicy. We also ordered the tostones again be ause I mean, why not. For dinner my friend had the lobster which she devoured and I had the shrimp alfredo. Now I never usually order alfredo and although the shrimp was seasoned and cooked perfectly the sauce was bland. Combined it tasted better but I would've needed more shrimp as the ratio to pasta to shrimp was vast. But I'd definitely come again and try something else. The tostones and shrimp appetizer comes with three so that for a meal is fine with me. Besides the drinks, views, and atmosphere are good enough for a come back.

Yelp
Vibes were on point today! Live music was great. Service was good and quick! Food was amazing, ordered their lobster bisque - a must when you come here, catch of the day, oyster & a surf and turf. Everything was great. Pricing is good too!

Yelp
Hmmm... starting off a little rocky... So we decided to return since our first time was quite lovely. It's important to disclose what you do and don't have, like saltines that husband enjoys with his raw oysters. He specifically asked prior to ordering and would've waived the experience had they told him no crackers. Second, I'm a wine affectionado so I'm quick to send vinegar back. Replacement glass- a little better. Mahi bites were fresh and yummy! FF a little cold, but edible. Round three - calamari...ok not epic I guess we'll hang back for a minute Check you guys out next year!

Yelp
We were at Biscayne National Park and asked where we could get something to eat. This cafe at the state park next door is apparently the only option. We entered and were the only people in the place (the whole lunch time). Our first server did not speak English, so she brought around someone who did. He was very friendly. We ordered, then the waiter comes back to tell me they don't have any fish for the fish sandwich. So, I ordered a chicken sandwich. A few minutes later...the waiter very apologetically says, we don't have chicken either. So, what do you have? Hamburger. So much for trying to eat healthy! BTW, the burger was so-so. The view over a small swimming lake and then out to the sea is pretty, but overall I cannot recommend.

Yelp
let me know when you get some reggae music .. don't want to listin to the loud spanish music everytime i go. bring on the reggae !!!
google avatar

Yelp
HORRIBLE - Just plain HORRRIBLE. The Music was at EAR BLEED volume- we were farthest from the stage. Asked the Manager to help lower volume - we couldn't even talk to each other waiting an hour for our Mediocre food. WAY Overpriced. Excellent service , but , I didn't go there to bond with the staff, i went there for dinner - which was ruined. NEVER AGAIN
google avatar

Elaine R.

Yelp
This place is great for enjoying the beach, live music, or catching a show. While the food isn't the standout feature, it's definitely a fun spot to hang out and enjoy the atmosphere.
google avatar

Orlando M.

Yelp
Very good. Was surprised how good their food was. Definitely retuning. We had the Blackened Mahi and the Lobster with shrimp. Both were amazing.
google avatar

Vanessa F.

Yelp
The thing about this place is just like everywhere else in Florida. They add the gratuity in so you don't get any service worth a cr@p. They're rude. They act like they're in a rush. They act like you're an inconvenience to their day.

Miriam A.

Yelp
Amazing food and service beautiful view. Drinks are excellent must go check this place out .

Jackie C.

Yelp
We had a Mahi Mahi sandwich and a Shrimp Alfredo dish with black beans and rice. Both were very good. The server forgot the black beans and rice, so I had to ask for it.

Yelp
What a view from this bar and restaurant! You have to walk up stairs to get there, but it's worth it. The place is fairly large, with open areas, and tables behind plastic to avoid any wind or rain. We just went here for drinks and found the staff was friendly and quick. What I didn't like is the constant boom boom boom sounds of the dance music they played, without any break from it. It was fun at the start, but after a while it gets old and irritating. Perhaps in the evening it's fine, but during the early afternoon, it's a bit much for me, and some others trying to have some peace on the beach (the music is so loud you can even hear it while getting your tan on at the beach below). We saw a stage located off to the right, so it looks like they even have live music at times.

Yelp
Food was mediocre at best and service was sloooow. They messed up my order and for the price and quality, Burger King would have been better. Never seen brown lump crab meat that tasted like taco seasoning before. That was a first. The mahi was thinner than a sheet of paper and had absolutely no flavor. The shrimp were chewy and tough, overcooked. Will not have to worry about going back; ever!

Yelp
Beautiful view and nice breeze make this place special. We ordered conch fritters and grilled shrimp salad. Both were excellent. The shrimp was particularly delicious and cooked perfected. The house fish soup was mediocre. The fried plantin was too hard and dry. The 1/2 burger is huge and overcooked. All in all, we enjoyed our time sitting on the deck on a sunny.

Lauren F.

Yelp
The service can be a little spotty, just have to make eye contact and call servers over. It can also get a little warm, there is no indoor AC, but it is all shaded with fans and a beautiful view. The Mahi Mahi was delicious. The piña colada was good as well.
google avatar

Kihara A.

Yelp
I only come here to eat appetizers. The vibes are normally pretty good but the food maybe a hit or miss. On this day it was a little bit of both. The ceviche was pretty good but the conch fritters which are not pictured were not good at all and the inside seemed to not be fully cooked through. The drinks were ok in my case.

Yelp
Best fayetteville has to offer. Food has spice. Good portion and matching alcohol. Most waiters are bilingual.

Yelp
This is one of the best kept secrets in Miami. I used to go here as a child before anything was built up. The restaurant is great, my five year old son loves it. I had a mojito and the appetizer sampler which were both exquisite. The service is very attentive. On the weekend they have live bands. I would definitely return.
google avatar

Yelp
At the very beginning of my visit with family I told them to take me to their favorite place to eat in their area. It would be the last restaurant food that we we planned on eating before we left. This is the place we were taken to. To enter I guess you have to have a day or yearly pass. There are a lot of boats parked. The restaurant has views of the beautiful beach. We ordered the meals pictured and everything was absolutely excellent. Everything our family stated about the place was absolutely true. The Mojitos tasted great and the atmosphere was wonderful. The warmth of the beach, the view, etc. Now we are at a beach so you will experience flies. The prices are a little steep but to be expected it's fresh seafood. So the price was well worth it. Loved the moment that will always remain.

Yelp
Daibel es excelente!! nos dio muy buenas recomendaciones acerca de la carta. Deliciosa comida . Muy bien presentados los platos. Habrá que regresar pronto!!

Yelp
A leisurely boat ride out of Key Largo brought us to this wonderful little secret, La Playa Grill, for lunch. My husband had the grilled mahi sandwich and I had the grilled chicken sandwich. Both were generous portions and delicious. Our server, Enrique, was prompt and attentive. We will definitely be back whether by boat or car, it is worth the trip. The open air dining was comfortable and spacious. My only suggestion is that they have some diet drinks to offer. But that being said, the lemonade that Enrique suggested was delicious.!

Yelp
Food was but the bartender Carlos was 5+ Sand, water, food; everything a vacationer needs

Dawn B.

Yelp
Food was amazing and atmosphere, waiter was really slow. Blackened MAHI, shrimp And seafood Alfredo were great!

Yelp
Great views. Nice breeze :) The mojito was excellent ! Ceviche and blackened chicken salad great too ! Pretty drive through farmland with no traffic.
google avatar

Sherry W.

Yelp
This is a great place to visit during the winter. It is all open air. You have a great view of the water. They have a stage for bands. I had the grilled chicken salad. It was served on fresh romaine lettuce. I added a side order of black beans that tasted homemade. My friend had the grilled tilapia sandwich and fries. Prices are reasonable considering the view. They have a bar that does not face the water. They have a full liquor bar. Parking is meters at a flat rate of $7.27.

Yelp
SERVICE IS THE WORST!!! Servers are Indifferent, inefficient, and full of attitude. I was actually asked if I spoke Spanish before giving our order to the host because the wait staff never materialized. Then they brought one order, left me hanging. when I asked about my order, I was told the host never put the order in. I saw him write it down! Maybe because they are located in Bayfront Park they can can away with these shenanigans. I will never consider coming back. Food was good, nothing to write home about.

Yelp
Bomb food and have sushi too Good vibes and service is bomb On a beach too Great everything must go And drinks drinks

Robert G.

Yelp
The major problem with this place is the service. Not only were we ignored but when they did try to take care of us they got it wrong. Not enough staff to take care of the customers unfortunately. Food can be hit or miss.
google avatar

Nyree S.

Yelp
Came here and was soo disappointed with everything! Ordered oysters and they look like they were from last month! Tasted disgusting! Ordered ceviche and again tasted disgusting! Ordered chicken wings and they were horrible! The whole time we were there I see staff sitting at a table hanging out ( unprofessional) This place is horrible to mention I'm disabled and came with my Service Dog. After we sat down a waitress asked us to move saying my dog was bothering people.....NOT EVEN TRUE! He's a trained professional service dog he was under out table. This place has potential but it lacks of everything! Never returning here

M C.

Yelp
Friday night after 7pm and of course the sun had set so there was no view. The salsa band was very loud and the crowd danced around us between the tables. It was like being at a joyous family wedding of people we didn't know. We recommend that you do not order the fish. Not fresh, and very expensive. We enjoyed the calamari. The burgers looked like they might be good.

Kinsey L.

Yelp
Very poor service. After greater than 2 hours, 4 people at our table still did not have their meals even after everyone else at the table was finished eating. Management was not apologetic or even able to speak in English to provide an explanation. They were unwilling to provide a discount or the late entree received as a free meal. Very poor management.

Sandra R.

Yelp
Recently came to try out the drinks at the Playita grill and let me tell you the service by Carlos, the bartender, was exemptional and the carona margarita was delicious along with the Tostones relleno. Will definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
If there is one word I can describe La Playa Grill: beautiful. The view is spectacular. I have come here in the past for work events...happy hours and things like that. How many bars have a spectacular view (please see photos). And the sea breeze is just wonderful. Just having a cold beer, refreshing sea breeze and an inspiring view....just helps someone really unwind after a tough day or week. The food is pretty good. But the location....now that's the reason to come. It also has a small beach so you can come here to take a nice refreshing swim on a hot day and then have some food. Will definitely come back.

Martha C.

Yelp
Solamente eran las 530 y no habia pescado, paella, churasco.... Como es que cierran a las 11 y no tenían platos principales. Los baños son un asco! 1st and last time as we will never come back!
google avatar

Duane S.

Yelp
A garden salad with Mahi Mahi is my go to meal. I have eaten this over a hundred times at many restaurants, including here. Tonight I had the worst ever. The fish came grey, cold and with a slightly fishy smell. The location is wonderful, but the chances that you get a horrible meal, make this a risk that you may not want to take for a special occasion. The service was also slow. It took ten minutes to pour my wine. The wait staff had difficulty in opening the bottle...it was kind of amusing to watch them go after the bottle with a knife before they realized they needed to use a cork screw.

Yelp
I think this just may be my first one star...I hate to but in hopes that management will read all the terrible reviews & make changes I must be honest. And keep in mind I am patient, understanding, & get times have been tough this last year of Covid. BUT....the restaurant hours say it opens at 11am...even the lifeguard at beach (which is where we were enjoying our morning) said so. At 11:05 we left our beach things in the car & started heading up the side stairs close to handicap parking. As a special needs mom I was curious if they had elevator I didn't see one, but there is a pretty long windy ramp in the back by beach for those in need. We walked into a literally empty restaurant & all the staff was doing something like cleaning, one was sweeping, another rolling silverware, another preparing the bar. Finally after 15 mins the one sweeping came over after I called out to her & asked if their menu was online (I assumed so since no one came over, but than again there were no scan codes on table there was nothing on tables actually not even sanitizer which is the norm these days right?). She rudely gave me menus with a note of "kitchen doesn't really start until 11:30" so yeah. That's all, she didn't say BUT in the meantime can I get you some water or a cocktail/beer/soda literally was about to walk away to get back to sweeping. I had to ask her BUT I can order some drinks while we wait right. At this point people started rolling in maybe another 3-4 small parties. I felt like I had to wave down waitress for everything even to finally order. LAST I checked restaurants staff comes in an hour early before open to be ready to service at opening hour. After seeing the service, & overpriced menu I honestly wanted to leave but the view did keep me from going. And the false hope I had that the reviews would be wrong & the food would be yummy. Well it wasn't worth the wait. I ordered the fish dip without the sides & it tasted like canned tuna really not a good fish dip at all. A couple miles over at Blackpoint they have a real good fresh one. This one even had an odd coloring. I only ate one scoop. My second order was for a kiddo chicken fingers & fries for $9.36 a bit steep for a kids meal with 5 small little pieces of chicken which aren't big enough to even call them fingers. Really should say "chicken bites". The tap water taste bad, so order a bottle. I asked how much it'd be for a cocktail just pineapple juice & malibu rum & they said $14. I don't mind paying certain things, but that's ridiculous for not even a cocktail. A shot of rum & juice. Goes with the same I said about food prices. STEEP! Overall the only thing this place has going for them is the ocean view..it could be such a nice place to frequent if the customer service was even a little up to par & the food was good. Hire a new chef, trust me your return of investment will pay off. Tips to owner: Train staff or hire nicer people who smile, with some beach vibes perhaps. Hire a chef like yesterday. If you know there are lots of flies, invest in zappers, or hang some water filled ziplocs like they do in the carribean islands... it works. Be ready to serve at opening hours or change open time. Or at the least bring some water & maybe chips on the house while you make guest wait. It a beautiful location, you can do so much better in the reastaurant to match the views.
google avatar

Jonny W.

Yelp
Ok so checked in and looked cool got there and yeah overlooks a pond and had a bad smell from it. Food was ok fish was dry and said happy hour and when we got the bill none of the drinks were priced right 7 of us ate and over $150 and was food like a small home in the wall. I would avoid this place went once on vacation and would not advise going. And way over priced for what it was.
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
DO NOT COME HERE. ONE OF MY WORST DINING EXPERIENCES EVER. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I ordered only two appetizers which after waiting 70 minutes, I was told I would have to wait another 30 minutes to be served (insane to say the least) or just leave (I'm sorry what?!). This is a clown restaurant that has zero leadership and no knowledge of what customer service means. Here are facts you should consider: -Food less than average -Not COVID safe; Bartender not wearing mask / did not even have one on face/chin. Do they not understand it's a global pandemic? -Zero Customer Service: IT TOOK ONE HOUR TO HAVE A GLASS OF WATER SERVED AFTER ASKING SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES. You'll enjoy lighting your money on fire than spending it at this place. Best of luck to anyone who considers it
google avatar

Karina L.

Yelp
I do not recommend this place I give them zero stars must be shut down immediately. Employees in the back did not wear mask neither did the bartender. Waiter was rude and untrained did not know anything on the menu, she also has her face mask half off with her nose out. The place was empty and everything took forever. Do not recommend very disappointed not Covid-19 sanitary.
google avatar

Carlos G.

Yelp
Went we got there they sit us in a table in like about half hour with appetizers and drinks they came and tell us to move to another table because the table was reserved they moved us to a Conner table with mosquitoes everywhere I do not recommend this place a female owner was very on professional Amanda with she was are waiters was very professional will never come back to this place very pricey for the food that they serve poor quality and presentation

Alberto C.

Yelp
Far away, the service is good, the food is not so good, the ambience is louder than average, the parking is ok

Naomis P.

Yelp
No recomiendo este sitio , muuuucho calor no hay suficientes ventiladores , algunas cosas que pedí en los platos para compartir están muy saldas y por ejemplo las croquetas muy ricas pero refreídas es decir en aceite bien caliente y viejo
google avatar

Susana L.

Yelp
The location is scenic, however, the crowd is very loud, the music is horribly insane and loud, the food, over priced and arrived cold. Now Covid restrictions, NON EXISTENT! Very sad to see how irresponsible and inconsiderate they are to not impose the state regulations.
google avatar

Monica B.

Yelp
We decided to stop here for a late lunch after coming back in from being out on the boat. We were attended right away and the waitress kept checking up on us. The food and drinks came quick once we had all ordered. I'm giving this restaurant a 4 star based on the opinions of my friends who also ate here with me. The food was alright. Some of us enjoyed our meals and some of us didn't think much of it but I will say I will come back to this restaurant for another quick meal when back out on the boat.
google avatar

Theresa C.

Yelp
We were so happy with our food. They were super nice. The food was phenomenal! Thanks for making our stop great!!
google avatar

Yelp
Omgggg i cant with these reviews!! This restaurant is soo good, i love their service, waiters were amazing. The food did take 15-20 as it should normal wait time. The view was fantastic. Please dont let these reviews fool you!!
google avatar

Jessidee V.

Yelp
The restaurant was a wonderful delight. The beer was super cold and the appetizers were delicious. Highly recommend the tostones ropes with crab. We had a great time enjoying the view and food
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
There are few waterfront options in South Dade. This might be the only ocean view option. It's not as good as before Irma, but still a nice place to have a beer and some bar food. If you're visiting, it has on your list just for the view.

John D.

Yelp
If it was possible to give ZERO stars I would. Shame too because this is a beautiful spot and could be another Black Point Marina Grill. Our server argued with us when we sent our seafood soup back that had objectively gone bad! Smelled like chum and told us 'just because you didn't like it doesn't mean you're not going to pay for it'. I didn't pay for it! Service was slow and very poor. Food wasn't worth dollar menu prices. But we had just completed a 40 mile bike ride and there wasn't another food option within 10 miles. We didn't order booze so can't comment on that. Overall bad experience and got a very bad vibe the moment we walked in and went downhill the moment we met our server. Again, this location has a lot of potential so I hope someone reads this and does something about it!
