La Popular Claremont

We had a date night dinner here and absolutely loved it. The restaurant is super pretty and trendy. The restaurant staff were great and friendly. We loved our waitress who gave such great recommendations. What we ate... Appetizers: we had the ahi tostadas and the chorizo queso fundido. We loved the queso fundido the best. Dinner: Carne asada plate which was super tasty and delicious. I had the chicken enchiladas suizas and they were so good. I loved the beans too. Dessert: churros, too die for! We definitely will be back again and I want it try their brunch They also have an agave club which sounds amazing. You get a bottle a month and it includes a social hour with other members which incudes drinks and appetizers. Sounds like such an amazing idea.

First time going to La Popular. We actually went by mistake. Our plan was to eat at Viva Madrid, which we didn't realize was next door. When we entered, they asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't, so they said we would have to be seated outside. As we were being seated, my husband found a place at the bar for us. We ordered the ceviche for appetizer. I had the short rib enchiladas and hubby had the ribeye taco plate. All had great flavors. Hubby had an Old Fashion made with tequila amd it was surprisingly good. The service was top notch. Jesse made a beautiful Jellyfish.

The good: the hostess and waiter were both extremely pleasant and welcoming. The decor is nice, the restaurant was clean and the food was pretty good! The chicken enchiladas were a bit small but very tasty. The bad: it was a Sunday lunch and was impossibly loud inside. So hard to converse. And the service, while friendly, was also extremely slow. It’d also pretty expensive for the food you get—any Mexican restaurant that charges for chips and salsa is already on the hot seat in my book! Parking around the restaurant is a bit challenging. Plan extra time for that.

I met up with some friends for drinks. I can't speak for the food or fancy drinks, but service was great, and atmosphere was really nice. Tuesday night had a very talented live singer/acoustic guitar musician. They obviously choose their live music with care. Update: I went back for a birthday dinner on a Thursday night. We did not have a reservation, however were seated on the patio. Service was great. Guacamole and chips very good. Food came out really fast. Chopped salad and side of beans were good as well. I ordered the watermelon margarita, and yes, it was good and very cute. Our server gave the birthday girl a hand signed card with candy. The birthday girl also received a complimentary ice cream scoop with a candle along with a Don Julio rice filled bottle with a sparkler (see pic). It made for a special evening. We sat outside on the patio near the fire and stayed pretty comfortable considering the February evening chill. This restaurant knows how to do it well. Will be going back.

This place was such a last-minute stop before our night out and I’m so glad we chose it! 🙌 The queso fundido is a must—so cheesy and delicious—and I had the mole enchiladas, which were chef’s kiss. Not sweet at all, just the perfect little kick of spice and full of flavor. The atmosphere is super cute—kind of dark and moody in the best way. It feels like one of those spots where you can totally dress up for the night or keep it casual and still fit right in. Our waiter was amazing (seriously, 10/10 service), and we even got complimentary dessert which was such a fun surprise. Oh, and the drinks? So fun and creative! 🍹✨ Overall, this place is a vibe. Good food, good drinks, and such a great spot to start the night. Highly recommend!

First time visiting La Popular Claremont, nice romantic atmosphere. The lighting was just right. The server was friendly and gave some great suggestions. The food was real good and the prices were resonable. I would make another visit.

What a wonderful little surprise in Claremont. This was very unexpected in the most pleasant way. Okay so this adventure starts off with me having a really long and emotional day visiting in California. So I decided I needed to find where the best margaritas were located in the I.E. at this little gem popped up. Turns out they have Happy hour after 9pm as well. So I gladly walked over to the bar and ordered a Margarita off of Happy Hour. Which is very tasty I must say but the star of the show is the Premium Margarita. It’s regular price but def worth every penny. I enjoyed it truly. Then said why not let’s have some food and emotionally eat. lol. No I was hungry but not as hungry for what I ordered. But I still ate it because it was amazing. I got the Short Rib Enchiladas which came with rice and beans. The rice was cooked perfectly. The beans were great too. Don’t be surprised by the way the beans look. They hit in the best possible, flavorful way. The enchiladas were great. Cheesy mixed with a great portion of beef. I was in heaven and left feeling much better than I came in. I was full with delicious food and great drinks. No complaints. Also bartenders were nice and to be honest I had some entertainment. The amount of dates at the bar was insane. So was def interesting. lol. The place is beautiful by the way. Go check them out.

This place makes me miss CDMX! They have great food and the drinks are just as tasty! Must try when you're on a date or a girls night out!

This place was extremely busy when I showed up. Great thing we had a reservation. And even then we had to wait a little. But it's ok, we relaxed at the bar before we were taken to our table outside at the patio. We were a table of 9, and our waiter who was covering the waitress seemed slightly overwhelmed with all the drink orders. Seemed frazzled. But I started off with the oxacan jellyfish. Presentation was pretty with the smoke bubble on top. The drink itself tasted good. Reminded me of a tropical drink i would get on an island relaxing on the beach. Anything rum based is usually pretty good for me. They said the tacos came 4 to an order. When it eventually arrived there was only 3. So that wasent cool, because they said there would be 4 tacos on that plate. Kind of a bummer. I ordered their ahi tuna tostada. Comes on 2 really small tostadas. But the tuna was fresh. And the flavors were amazing. Colors were vibrant and it was really good. We also ordered their chip and salsa. Comes with 4 different salsas. Even for me, the really spicy one wasent too spicy at all. Had a nice kick to it but for those who like it hot, you'll be solely disappointed. Each salsa had a unique taste to it so that was really nice. Next drink was the matcha one. Loved the matcha cream on top. Presentation was very nice. And again a rum based drink, it was an interesting drink (in a good way). Finished our meal with their mini churros. Warm, crunchy, yet soft on the inside. The warm chocolate dip was really good too. The atmosphere here is nice. Inside it's dark and loud. Sitting outside was beautiful with the fire and a little less noisy. Minis 1 star for giving us only 3 tacos when they said it would be 4. But besides that everything tasted good. The drinks were excellent. Its a very nice place for a date night or just hanging out with some friends.

The short of the matter is that La Popular is my idea of a cocktails and nosh jumping off point... Good music, good drinks, good vibes, upbeat staff, open and inviting centric bar. Stop there and go have dinner somewhere else. The entrées left much to be desired. At a "Mexican" concept like this, you expect (hope at least) the food to be good - epecially when it's on the pricier end of the spectrum. I guess they left the flavors and classic Mexican techniques behind when they moved north of the border. Case in point, my NY Steak was served with a chile relleno. The steak was very tender, perfect temperature and delicious, but don't expect the entire strip. You're only gonna get a few slices. Then there's the chile relleno. Relleno means stuffed, as you probably know, with cheese and sometimes meat. Here someone decided it would be a good idea to stuff diced carrots in there!? Wtf? Would you put diced carrots in oysters Rockefeller or lasagna? Maybe for some weird vegan culinary experiment. They have no place in a chile relleno. Can I get an Amen?!

Okay IE, we have been sleeping on this gem. Although it is pretty new to Claremont it was what was needed. An elevated Mexican cuisine with all the jungle vibes and flavorful food. As we always say, bar service is the best kind of service. We went with the recommended things our bartender gave and she did not disappoint. For the enchiladas, enchiladas verdes with al pastor meat. So good! Shrimp fajitas were exceptional and the flour tortillas tasted straight homemade. Drinks were made nice and heavy. The whole experience was refreshing to know you didn't have to drive out to LA for some good food. I hope this place really takes off and stays. Will be making this a date night spot.

This is a restaurant of 2 places: up beat inside vibe and relaxed patio vibe. We sat outside on this sunny Fall afternoon. But walking through the inside, we noticed the enticing lighting and upbeat music. The patio was calm, but the service was still attentive. As you can see from my pics, the table service visual is uplifting against the black table tops. We started with the Salsa Flight. Check out my pic of the mini menu that came with our flight. Overall, the salsas were milder than their heat indicator. But, they were all unique and had good flavors with quite the variety for 4 options. We greatly enjoyed mixing the various salsas. Also note the super crunchy and freshly made chips. The salsa left us with tingly lips and running noses: all good. We also shared the Campechano Tacos. There were 4 per serving, and was the right size for us. As you can see from my pic, they were a bit juicy. The tortillas still held up and break apart. The ground meat was flavorful: rich, earthy and savory. The onions were mild and added a great crunch. The side dish of rice and beans were standard fare. But the salsa from the Salsa Flight punched the r and b up to a new level.

I've been here twice. Once as a girls night out dinner and the most recent time with my husband and kids. Kids menu was only $10 which we ordered the kids burrito (huge, in my opinion for a kid!) and chicken rice bowl. Also came with a drink. Our waitress was nice to bring the kids a few slices of pineapples while waiting for our food. The food was flavorful and tasty, id give it a 3.5 out of 5. I'm giving this place a 2.5/3 because the service could be better. Both times I've been here, we had to ask multiple times for things (like plastic utensils for my kids to eat, napkins, a follow up on an ordered dish). Churros are 1-2 bite sized, but a bit on the sweeter side.

I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. It's incredible to see how this location, which used to be Rhino Records, has been transformed into such an elegant and inviting space. The decor was beautiful, and the restaurant was clean and well-maintained. Our waiter was kind and attentive, making the experience even better. The food and cocktails were outstanding. I ordered the al pastor enchiladas, which were absolutely phenomenal, and paired them with the Desert Rose cocktail, which was equally delicious. My friend had the chile relleno and tortilla soup--both of which I got to taste, and they were excellent. Another friend ordered the carne asada tacos, and although I didn't try them, they looked amazing. Overall, I would recommend this place!

La Popular isn't your typical Claremont establishment. Its young, hip, ands closes fairly late. It's the place to be seen. While I'm all for that, there are definitely kinks to be ironed out. The food. The food is spectacularly mediocre. Our party shared the following: -guacamole ($11) + chicharrones (+$4) -ahi tuna tostadas ($18 for 2): crispy leeks, chipotle aioli, soy vinaigrette + avocado -al pastor tacos ($15.50): signature live fire al pastor, pineapple, onion, cilantro, lorenza sauce -campechano tacos ($16.50): ribeye, chorizo, chicharrones, lorenzo salsa, guacamole -ribeye tacos ($17): avocado, charred tomatillo salsa -enchiladas blancas ($22 ): cotija, lorenza salsa, guacamole, asadero cheese, red onion, sour cream, guacamole, cilantro Some things were okay good like the tuna tostada - a little mayo-y. And the guac. So there's that. But to be honest, all of the taco meats melded into one single flavor. Despite the individual toppings, flavor wise, I couldn't tell one meat from the other. Additionally, the tacos were very extremely small. The portion of meat is so small that they use one single tortilla. While we ordered some of them in like a combo which made them "cheaper," a single taco entree with 2 tacos with rice & beans is like $15 ++. Not worth the ambiance. Host station is a little testy and unfriendly. The waiting area is also very awkward. If you find yourself waiting, I'd recommend grabbing a drink at the bar.

We had a reunion from work and chose this place. The restaurant was chic and very nice . The patio where we seated was perfect. I ordered grilled fish tacos , guacamole with chicharon chips and salsa . My friends ordered steak tacos, chicken tacos. They said just pretty good for a Mexican cuisine. The salsa was finely refreshing. It was blended but you taste the freshness of the tomatoes. For sure we will be back again . Dillon our server was great. Thanks for a very awesome night.

Staff is not welcoming ! Arrived on a Friday at 3:20 and there was approximately 10 people total . We had a party of 6 and they stated that we would have to be done by 5:30 to accommodate other guest coming in . We originally wanted to sit outside but they said it was all booked . Just to refresh memory it was 3:20 on a Friday . Anyway we ended up getting a table inside and had a server get our order for drinks and he said he would be back with chips and salsa. Well chips and salsa never arrived . Also our water glasses were extremely dirty . Not a fan after one visit. When ended going to Elvira's for better service and great chips and salas.

My new fav place indeed! We are regulars at Eureka, si when my hubby said , "I got an email for a eureka sister Mexican style "! I was like ... let's go !!! So here we are , Daniel received us with a warm welcoming and a big smile. The place is hip and very trendy. The bar is beautiful , they have a big variety of mezcal , and a big range of fabulous drinks. I order a pearl margarita ... oh my goodness soo good! We got the ahi tostadas as an appetizer, the crunchy onions complemented the amazing flavor. I ordered the fish tacos ... super good , with a soft flaky inside and crunchy tempura batter. The amazing sauce and pico de gallo complements the costra cheese tortilla. You guys should visit this place , you won't be disappointed! Make a reservation!

Reservation highly recommended for La Popular CDMX. La Popular is the newest hottest modern Mexican restaurant and bar to the Claremont Village area. Scarce street parking in the area, but my preferred spot is the free Public Parking lot a little north on Yale, above Bonita. I arrived around 6pm on a Saturday evening trying to beat the lunch rush and they told me it would be 75-90 minutes for indoor seating, or right away for hot humid outdoor seating. Bar seating is on a first come first served basis. My predatory senses kicked in and I vulture-d a seat as soon as I saw 2 ladies shifting and about to get up. MayLene D. and I were content with the bar seating since the service was pretty attentive, and you got to watch them make their fancy craft cocktails right in front of you. We started off with drinks. MayLene D. had their Oaxacan Jellyfish ($17) and I had the Desert Rose ($17). The Oaxacan Jellyfish has rum, pineapple, blue lemongrass, coconut cream, and topped with a whimsical lemongrass smoke bubble. My cute Desert Rose was served in a cute cactus cup and it had hibiscus lime infused tequila, mezcal, cinnamon infused liquor, prickly pear, pomegranate and garnished with a toast cinnamon stick and a tasty slice of grilled pineapple. I really enjoyed my drink. Very craft cocktail worthy. As a shared starter, we got the Ceviche ($18) that came with fresh white fish, tomatoes, cucumber, citrus, serrano peppers, red onions and cilantro. It was served with what looks like fresh house fried tortillas. They were on the small side, but the ratio works out if you generously stack your ceviche onto the chips. MayLene D. seemed to really like the balance of the acidity in the ceviche liquid. I really enjoyed the flavors as well. For our entrees, we both went for enchiladas. Please note their enchiladas do not come with a side, so they will ask if you want to add a side of rice and beans or a side salad for an additional charge. MayLene D. had the Campechano Enchiladas ($22) with a side salad ($3) and I had the Chicken Mole Enchiladas ($22) with a side salad ($3). We both opted for the cilantro dressing on our side salads. That side salad was amazing, it had quality ingredients with like a spring mix bas with tomatoes, radish, and avocado. The cilantro dressing was perfect. As for the enchiladas, we were less satisfied. MayLene D. got the majority of her enchiladas to go. I was disappointed with the mole sauce cause I normally really enjoy mole, but this one falls short. The tortilla for the enchiladas were also still tough, filling a little dry. I think this is a cute spot for appetizers and a cocktail, but I don't think I would come back for dinner. It's a bit of a splurge, but definitely nice to try.

My boyfriend made reservations for my birthday dinner on a Monday night. He knows my style and exceeded my expectations by choosing this gem. The moment we walked in, I loved the vibes. The unique aesthetics make this place a great photo opp! Food: We started with guacamole, chips, and chicharrones. The guacamole was okay. I ordered the Enchiladas Blancas, which were excellent. I love enchiladas! And my boyfriend ordered the chicken mole enchiladas. He loves mole and loves it when he sees it on a menu. Drinks: I had to try their famous Yucatan Toucan; it was a bit sweet. I also ordered the watermelon hibiscus margarita; it was great! The cocktail drink we found interesting was Count Diablo. It had a spicy kick to it. I do wish the service was better. Our waitress took a long to get our order and checked on us infrequently. Another waitress came by our table and asked if we needed anything else. Indoor and patio seating is available. There's also a small lounge area to the left of the main entrance. The large windows are retractable, giving it an alfresco vibe.

If you want something different for date night or even birthday drinks, try La Popular. Beautiful interior. Great selections of drinks. Mezcal fans, this is your spot. Located in downtown Claremont. Me personally, food was decent. Worth the try for anyone. Staff was friendly and attentive. Family friendly with the ones with kids

I love the design/ambiance at La Popular! I'd probably go here for that alone. But they also have some great menu options, like delicious guac and very flavorful mole! They have a decent caesar salad, though I'd add a touch more anchovy paste (but I love anchovy!). Good margaritas. Crispy tempura shrimp. Great chips. The only things I'm not crazy about are their salsa, which is a bit thin and too spicy and the queso fundito, which quickly solidified into a hardened mass. I LOVE queso, but you really need it to stay dipable! (If I may make up a word.) But I will surely be going back here more to try many more things on the menu!

When La Popular first opened in town it got a lot of excitement. There were teething issues that were reported on social media. I was interested but turned off my the social media reviews. I finally visited twice a week for lunch with friends and I had a great time. They have an excellent lunch taco special that I ordered twice and wasn't able to finish both times. The tacos were delicious. The service was good overall. There was a good crowd but it wasn't packed so we got our orders quickly. The first time we sat indoors and the second time on the patio. There's something about the indoor space that makes it feel noisy (too industrial perhaps). Outside was much nicer and I recommend outside if the weather is ok. But for this reason, I docked one star. Lovely place in the village. Will recommend!

We go there periodically to enjoy drinks at bar and to have light appetizers. Service here is always great with smile. We usually see Kim working at the bar, she is super friendly and attentive. Great espresso martini she makes. Good decors and ambience too. Must try.

First off, shoutout to Kyle for helping create a wonderful happy hour dining experience after a long, mentally draining day at work. The queso fundido was okay. I am partial to the queso fundido at Luchador down in Pomona mainly with the consistency and texture. I'm not sure if it was butter in the skillet, but La Popular's fundido was watery, and being able to pinch the cheese with a tortilla wasn't as smooth since I couldn't pinch much at all. The tacos made up for it though, and were really tasty. Flavors here are distinct and above average, and the rice and beans reminds me of what my friend's dad would make when we'd hang out at the casa for parties. The location and open air seating makes for a really great experience. Parking is sparse in this area, so be prepared to drive around if you want to stay less than a block away. If you don't mind a short walk, park in the garage next to Blaze pizza. This place is a solid option for happy hour, and this was a great first impression. I'll be back!

My girlfriend and I dined here earlier this month and rated our visit a 3/5 stars. The GM then reached out to us asking us to give La Popular another try. So we did and this time we give it a 4/5. We ordered the steak medium rare. We LOVED the chimichurri and overall marinade on the steak. Despite it being medium rare as we requested, however, we found the steak to be a bit tough. It wasn't a melt-in-your-mouth steak experience as the meat itself was chewy. The chile relleno that came with the steak was stuffed with carrots, which was unexpected. A tad soggy overall. We were craving more texture on the chile relleno. All in all, the steak plate is a good dish. We also had the quesabirria -- this was tasty and the meat was tender. The consommé that came with it, however, didn't enhance the dish any. The bowl of rice and beans that accompany it was tasty. We also had the chicken tortilla soup. We loved the presentation -- it allows you to add whatever toppings you wish. A large enough bowl to share. For drinks, we ordered the watermelon hibiscus margarita (yum!), Desert Rose (decent), Count Diablo (too Campari-forward, that I had to send it back and swap it out for another beverage), and the Carajillo, which still tastes like a chocolate milkshake. They really need to improve upon the Carajillo here -- it has no coffee flavor whatsoever. Maybe have your bartenders sample carajillos at bars across Los Angeles. It's a very simple cocktail to make and unfortunately, La Popular misses the mark on this. Service was kind and attentive just like last time. Book a res especially for Fridays and Saturdays. This place gets very busy and loud.

As a local, we've come several times since the restaurant opened last year. Food is always good. Service is almost always terrible. Hostesses are unwelcoming, cliquey, and hostile. Servers are okay, but the good ones don't seem to stick around. Tonight was by far our worst experience thus far (and we're never coming back again). We got a patio seat but never had a server. Servers and hostesses kept walking past our table, oblivious that we had been sitting for over 20 minutes but still hadn't ordered. I eventually asked the server at a nearby table if he was our waiter or if he knew whether we even had a waiter...he was not, but kindly put in our order as a rush order. Our food came out quickly and was great, but I had to flag down another waitress just so we could check out. Truly, we could have left and nobody would have noticed us. We were told the manager would talk to us, but the manager never bothered to make an appearance. They did comp an appetizer for us which is fine...but who the hell was our waiter and how was it possible that an entire hour went by without that issue ever getting resolved?! So ridiculous.

The food was OK kind of on the pricey side. I purchased house margarita 1350 pretty small for the price.. This might be a better place to go for happy hour only.

Wow, just wow. I'm a regular at Eureka and discovered this is a sister restaurant. We were seated and we talked to Daniel the manager and he recommended a Mezcal old fashioned to me since I normally drink bourbon old fashions. The drink arrived and it was so good. I ordered an appetizer of ahi poke tostada and the New York steak and Chile relleno. Every thing was so good and our server Kat did an amazing job. Places ambiance appeared well spaced out and not too loud. Great place to bring friends. Definitely will be back

Service was really great as we had a large party and the ambiance is so nice, love that they had heaters outside. Drinks were really delicious !!! Food looks great but doesn't taste the best, it was flavorless.

Came here to celebrate 3 years with my bf and this place did not disappoint. Our server Kyle was super attentive and made sure that we had a great time. The food, Drinks, and service was wonderful. I can't wait to go back.

My husband and I decided to give this place another shot after being invited back by the management. We visited for lunch on Mother's Day at 4 pm, and thankfully, we didn't have to wait as we were immediately seated at a high top table. This place is always bustling and had nice interiors. We placed our order as soon as we sat down. The server was friendly and efficient. We started with complimentary chips and salsa for the table, which were a nice touch. For the main course, I opted for the shrimp fajitas, while my husband chose the Al pastor enchiladas. The portions were generous, and the flavors were spot on. We also ordered rice and beans on the side, thinking they were included with the dishes, but they turned out to be an add-on. Overall, the service this time around was much better than our previous experience. The only slight issue was that despite ordering water with lemon, we were served plain water instead. However, this was just a minor oversight in an otherwise enjoyable meal. We'll definitely consider coming back again, especially given the improved service.

Great ambience that's perfect for a date night or a girls night! I really liked their authentic approach and elevated flavors of Mexican cuisine. We were told by our server that the original restaurant started in Mexico City! I definitely recommend the salsa tray as a starter! It was fun trying each salsa and comparing the different flavors that range from mild-spicy. My group also ordered the guacamole with the ribeye chicharrones. This was another unexpected gem! Their guacamole was fresh and had such a unique taste paired with the ribeye chicharrones. Our server was lovely and very attentive, especially when we needed more tortilla chips, she made sure to have them out quick! I got their watermelon hibiscus margarita which was great and I'd probably order it again if I ever go back!

I have mixed feelings about La Popular CDMX, but overall, I felt it was a nice modern addition to downtown Claremont. Good food with a nice modern ambiance, but their service was incredibly slow and lackluster. We started off with a couple orders of their Salsa Tray ($5) which came with a small serving of their fresh tortilla chips and 4 of their homemade salsas. Their salsas were unique and flavorful, especially their Salsa Toreado which was made with soy sauce and sesame oil and my favorite of the 4. For our entree, I tried the Blancas Enchiladas ($22) and the Quesabirria ($18). Both dishes were good but nothing mind blowing, and the portion size felt a bit on the smaller side for the price. For dessert, we decided to try one of each: their Churro ($10), Flan ($10), and Tres Leches ($13). I was most excited for the Tres Leches but actually preferred it the least of the 3 as the cake felt a bit dry and grainy. The milk mixture was it's only saving grace. The churros were crispy little bite size pieces that were perfectly sweet and could be dipped in their chocolate or dulce de leche sauce. I also enjoyed their flan which was creamy and eggy. Service started off strong as the waitress took our drink order and we received our drinks within 10 minutes, but we had to wait almost 30 minutes before she returned for us to get our food order in. The chips and salsa tray came out quickly but it took awhile for our main entrees to come out, and after their did, no one really came by our table to check on us unless we flagged our waitress down. Nice modern ambiance with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Indoor seating is a bit dimly lit and it can get quite loud inside if you're looking for something a bit more intimate. Parking is a bit tough as there's no designated lot specifically for the restaurant so you essentially have to find street parking where you can.

Ambiance is very laid back, semi casual. We went for lunch dinner might be a little more dressy but still a casual dressy vibe. The inside is very clean and nicely put together. The bar is in the middle with various seating options around and a patio. The drinks and food were so so not bad but nothing I would really return for. We had the enchiladas, chicken tacos and an order of the churros for dessert. The service was great! Our waitress was very attentive and kind. She continually checked on us and made sure we had everything we needed.

This is a cute restaurant located in Claremont. I've been twice already and both times were good experiences. The first time I went was on a weekend in the evening and there was an hour + wait so my friend and I decided to try our luck at the bar. It was pretty packed but luckily we found a couple leaving. I got tacos the first time. Depending on which tacos you order, it comes with either 2 tacos or 4 tacos and rice and beans. I requested flour tortillas instead of corn and they were able to substitute it. We got some drinks and it was a nice vibe overall. The second time I went we had reservations for lunch and were seated promptly. I got their version of an espresso martini and it was so good and so creamy, it woke me up! They gave complementary chips and salsa which I don't remember getting the first time, maybe they don't get it at the bar? I ordered their Caesar salad, which I don't normally order when I'm at a Mexican restaurant but it sounded good and it definitely was. The chicken was seasoned and cooked nicely and the salad was just refreshing. I would definitely come back again! But I think reservations are a must.

I would only go back for happy hour appetizers. The salad was just lettuce and a small amount of corn, dressing was very salty and sour, almost inedible. The tacos were just okay. The best thing we had was a Paloma. The queso was good as well.

I came out here after my appointment for some sweet dessert. They have churros, flan, and tres leches for desserts. I chose the churros since that's what I came for. Next time, I'll have to try the tres leches, as my server, Autumn, mentioned that it was her mom's favorite. And I paired it with cactus pear & pomegranate Agua Fresca because I miss cactus pear. Right when you walk inside, it's like a breath of fresh air, very spacious and they have windows and doors that open up during the hotter season. This place is aesthetically appealing, it's yelp worthy!! I don't have instagram or else I would have said instagram worthy. Lol. I think I should have waited to eat here instead of the last place. This is my kind of restaurant. Everything is just right one. I would definitely come back. The service, ambiance, the food, everything is 5 stars in my opinion. Thanks La Popular CDMX team!! Came in for a quick bite, decided to give them another try! Last time we had a whole in incident happen that wasn't acknowledged by the staff. This time around same thing came in for quick bite decided to get their white wine on happy hour, realized. The glass dirty with pink lipstick on it, made the bartender aware since I was sitting at the bar, she took it from me never apologized just took it and served me another pour. This seems to be the typical behavior at the bar. Maybe I shouldn't sit at the bar anymore or just my luck eh! But the ahi tuna tostadas was bomb and the house white wine wasn't bad for Happy Hour!

We came here for a second time on Sat night for dinner and encountered an improved dinning experience from our first visit! What elevated tonight's dinner was the seamless coordination between our wait staff to the kitchen and bar. This was a huge improvement thus the 5 star review, which I seldom give out! Our server had complete knowledge of the menu and made great recommendations that added another layer of enjoyment. We brought our friends and they totally loved the vibe, ambiance, service, and more importantly the food. We'll definitely be back and have recommended this spot to family and friends!

Fantastic! The server, the food, the drinks, the ambiance. All so good. We had Margaritas, guacamole and chips, carnitas tacos, enchiladas and more. Everything was great. Melinda was such a nice and attentive server. She just has this way of making us feel important and welcome and she was so helpful with our questions about the menu. We will go back and special for her section. If I get the rib eye chicharrones in the guacamole again, I'm going to ask for it simply grilled a bit instead of fried chicharrone style and I think I'll enjoy it much better. I think a photo of the inside because it's such a nice looking place with great ambiance. The exposed beams from the old architecture and all the darkness on the walls, there's so much to look at and appreciate. Definitely going back. Melinda, thanks for the wonderful experience.

Heads up, tried parking in their lot and literally had to back out cuz it's so tight and couldn't make it through. Someone could've swiped a car, as a car was parked next to the fence and it was sticking out. Be careful! Wouldn't park in that lot. It's a one way too. Came here on a Thursday evening at 4pm for happy hr. They sat us right down once we walked in. We waited, looked at the menu, used the restroom and still no one checked on us. It was about 15 minutes before I was about to get up and check on what's going on, but then someone walked over to us finally to take a order. Happy hour from 3-6 M-F! We both ordered tacos with rice and beans. I got a chicken tortilla soup that I had to remind them I ordered. Wanted it before my meal. Got it half way into the meal. We also shared the salsa flight. Delicious!!! All made in house! Soup was very good as well. Loved my Al pastor tacos. They came with 4 tiny street tacos. Really loved the taste. Two bits per taco.... Tops lol. Rice lacked flavor as did the beans. Oh! They also have a bar in the middle of the restaurant to watch a game. Overall, the ambiance was really nice too. Dark with candles lite Inside. They also had an outside patio. Had windows to see inside their very clean and organized kitchen. It was super packed by the time we left too! Service lacked at the beginning but then Picked up after. Parking can get tough around here. The decor was gorgeous.

I miss Video Paridiso (the spot that used to be here behind Rhino Records) yet here we are... yet another upscale Mexican food restaurant in Claremont. I always believe you need to let a new place work out its kinks... allow it to find its groove. We went in the first week of opening. We ordered the Guacamole, Ahi Tuna Tostadas, Campechano Enchiladas, and Watermelon Hibiscus Margarita. I like the Margarita and pretty much all the other dishes but nothing stood out fantastic in flavor. The decor is gorgeous, there are a lot of TVs to watch a game if that is your persuasion, and the outdoor patio is inviting for any season as they have heaters out there. Servers are getting used to the menu and flow of the kitchen... so be kind. Respectfully Reviewed.

Run do not walk to La Popular! The service was amazing and the food....OMG. It's like a flavor explosion in your mouth. Everything we had was excellent. And if you go during Happy Hour you also get amazing prices. We will definitely be back again soon!

I really enjoyed my experience here. The food was delicious! We ordered a few appetizers because they all looked so good. My favorite was probably the salsa flight. Great flavors! The seating was comfortable. I love the window to the kitchen as well. It was cool to watch and also provided somewhat of a peace of mind, being able to see what's really going on. I hope to be able to visit again and try some more of their unique and indulgent looking foods.

My buddy introduced this place for drinks and we ended up ordering some bites. I initially said yes for the mezcal and stuck around for the mole enchiladas. Service was excellent if not too attentive. Parking is easy. The whole vibe is reminiscent of mozwell in all the best ways. This is definitely a revisit for me.

Highly recommend the drinks and location for a beautiful brunch or dinner! The bar is gorgeous and the drinks are amazing. I had ahí tuna and it was fresh and delicious. The chips and salsa are yummy. We did more of appetizers and drinks for a girls day brunch! Spent the day at the village walking to several restaurants and bars! This whole area stunning! I grew up in this town and it's become even better!

We came out for a girls night excited to check out the new restaurant. The decor is well thought out and from the inside is very spacious so you get privacy with your party. The servers, hostess and managers were all great at greeting you with a smile. Since it is a new restaurant they did lack in time management which I'm sure will improve as all new restaurants have hurdles to jump at the start. I'd also like to add that the wait time to be seated was insanely long over an hour but when you look inside there are MANY open bar tables and tables in general. We decided to wait by the bar to snag a seat because otherwise I don't think I would have waited especially after seeing all the open seating available. Unfortunately, the food and drinks were a bit lack luster and weren't very memorable. For drinks we ordered the watermelon hibiscus and forbidden paradise mule. Both my friend and I agreed that it lacked flavor and honestly we both couldn't really taste the alcohol. As an appetizer we had ordered the guacamole and wanted to add the ribeye chicharron but when it came out it was missing the ribeye chicharron and we didn't want to wait to get another one. The guacamole was good but nothing much to it. What we will say is that their Chipotle Prawn and Quesabirria tacos were very flavorful as well as the rice and beans. We did have an issue with my plate but the manager corrected it immediately. I'd like to come back and give it another try as all restaurants should get a second chance and not all experiences may be the same.

Food: - ribeye fajitas: a little overcooked but the meat was tasty - Al pastor tacos: nice flavor - tortilla soup: a little watery for me Fresh made chips and salsa were yummy! Overall, a nice attention to detail and some really great wait service as I know it just opened up!

We started with chips and salsa, excellent salsa. Chips were fresh. I had birria queso tacos, they were good. They get soggy fast so eat them right away. They serve two with rice and beans. Beans were a little salty for my liking, I had one taco and shared the other with my husband. My husband had the enchiladas with three types of meat, it lacked a little flavor. The cocktails can be stronger but great presentation. We sat at the bar since they have full service. The server was Kate and she was great! The decor is super cute. Rustic and modern combo. It's very clean and the restrooms are clean and well kept. We will definitely return to try more items on the menu.

Great service and staff. Super attentive and I love the ambiance here, easy to find parking. I've been to Mexico City and this food was sooo delicious in comparison Food is pretty pricy but a great date night or sit down spot! Highly recommend give it a try if you're in the area. Also the rib eye was so amazing melt in your mouth, I would return for this. The bathrooms are really clean and the decor creates a nice environment and space. I plan to return with friends.

The food and service is amazing, never had a bad time here. Just be wary of popular times, but the bar is usually open and chill. Happy Hour is also a great time to go + outdoor seating and a variety of table options make it easy to make it work at any time.
