Best Picnic Baskets To-Go From Montreal Restaurants and Bars | Eater Montreal

"Plateau BYOB La Prunelle has made the best of a bad situation over the past year and a half, refocusing its menu on small, shareable (takeout-friendly) plates and adding an ice cream counter. It also offers $50 picnic baskets, which include two small plates, two sides, two soft serve ice creams and two house lemonades." - Holly Tousignant

9 Takeout and Delivery Options for a Thanksgiving Feast | Eater Montreal

"This casual BYOB turned street-food-and-ice-cream-spot over the summer has gone back to cooking up the French bistro specialities the Plateau darling is known for. The takeout-only menu changes weekly, but this week’s fancy fare (for two or four) includes a candied lemon cornish chicken roast, gratin dauphinois and a dark chocolate and salted caramel pie. Delicious food! You can bring your own alcohol if each person purchases 1 main or 2 entrée. Grilled bread from Boulangerie Le Toledo, oysters were great and the flavors were strong, interesting and tasty!

One of our favourite spots in the city! We’ve returned many times and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is chic yet welcoming, with a gorgeous view of the lively street through the large windowfront — such a unique setting. It’s a BYOW French restaurant, which we love, and the food is always excellent. On our last visit, I had the salmon tartare with fries and salad — beautifully plated and delicious — and my boyfriend really enjoyed his classic steak frites. The menu has something for everyone, and the cooking is consistently top-notch. The service is always professional and attentive without being overbearing. It’s clear this place has been around for years for a reason — quality across the board. Highly recommend for a date night or a special meal with friends.

We went in a large group, we waited some time as the table wasn't ready, not a big deal since we're a considerable number, we took the group menu and it was extremely disappointing: the starter: the salmon tartar was plain, tasteless and it did not feel fresh, the main dish that we took was the steak with fries and OMG literally it was two small pieces of steak and full of oily and burn fries...... Horrible! To top it all off, the dessert: the cheesecake seemed to have a liter of sugar in it as it was too sweet and cloying, not the best and we couldn't finish it. The service was average, nothing extraordinary and the music is a little loud to be able to talk on a large table. What a disappointing experience, it was the most stolen $200 in the world, yes it is a plus to be able to bring your own wine, but the food is so tasteless I would never go back.

Exceptional food. Bring your own booze ( there is a great shop opposite) - big open windows on a warm night let you stay part of the happy hipster street too. Loved this place.

Google
We had a fixed menu for valentine's day and it was pretty good. Very happy with the experience. Maybe the only thing is that I'm not fan of the foamy textures in food, but that's a me issue, I guess.

Loved your restaurant and the waitress was very charming. Like how you serve the food in reasonably sized portions and you attention to detail. The octopus and the duck were amazing.

Google
Pretty place, nice presentation, friendly efficient service, good playlist, BYOW is a big plus as well. Unfortunately the food was pretty hit or miss. The octopus was delicious but tough. The bread was charred. My friend enjoyed her tomato soup. The duck tasted great but once again kinda tougher than it should be. The gnudi was pretty disappointing, it was basically a tomato based dip which overpowered everything in it, needless to say my friend didn't enjoy it. I liked the squash cake, it was the right amount of sweetness, the addition of sprinkled salt was pretty unnecessary though.

Google
I was impressed with the service: I mentioned an unusual dietary restriction when asking about the mains, and before the dessert the waitress came by to explain which ones I would be able to eat, which I thought was very considerate of her. Food was very tasty but with smaller portions, you should get a starter along with the main.

Yelp
This cozy BYOW restaurant is a perfect spot for a romantic evening or an evening with friends ! The laid back environment with your wine will indulge you in the atmosphere and it will slowdown the fast pace life. The service will allow you to spend time with your company for To a maximum time. Hubby chose this place for my birthday dinner and it was a perfect spot. We visited with our daughter. And they had the most comfortable and child friendly seating for us. Which helped us more to enjoy your meals and evening. Food: the dishes are unique and innovative. For our starter we shared a bread ( 3$) and crispy mushroom dish - it was crispy mushrooms and very thin and crisp potatoes served the bed of thick mushroom purée, with flavours of basil oil and smoked aroma! Delicious!!! It is must try dish. The buttered bread seemed to be grilled on a bbq grill and was delicious as well. For my mains I got Gnudi made from feta served on beetroot purée and warm melted goat cheese, it was pretty rich and filling. Hubby cancelled his mains and they did it without and fuss. So sweet of them. The portions are generous . Overall memorable experience!

Yelp
This is a great little neighborhood restaurant. It's byob with garage door that opens the dining up and also has outside dining options. Service excellent even w one waitress for the entire resto. She manages it with aplomb and never missed a beat . It's byob so bring your best bottles of wine and enjoy. We had a gazpacho made w cucumber mint and honeydew melon. Oysters, steak frites and veal sweetbreads. All were good and well flavored .

Yelp
We are up from the United States visiting our son and stopped in for dinner. We had roasted duck on polenta with braised cabbage, halibut in a delicate sauce and octopus. The food was absolutely amazing, and the service was outstanding. We are returning in the summertime and will certainly come back. One thing we did note, was how pleasant the music was throughout the restaurant. It provides a very nice vibe making these social interaction very enjoyable.

Yelp
Loved this cute BYOB French place with set menu. Came with a huge group of 10 upon reservations around 9.30pm although they close at 10.30pm. (We stayed until midnight and they were great sports about it. I was very impressed with their patience.) For dinner which (menu) seems to change occasionally I ordered scallops then beef shoulder and chocolate cake dessert. They were all freshly made and delicious. Service was fast (perhaps because we stayed so late) and accomodating. Great way to kick off the NYE weekend.

Yelp
This is a restaurant with heart. At its core is a team of very pleasant folks who show up every night to kick ass any take names. Oh, and the food is on point - every time. OK, so I'm sure you guys all saw that we spent a week in Montréal - we did an amazing apartment rental diagonally across the street, and saw that this place was packed. We looked it up and saw that the menu was legit. Put it on our list, and ended up getting distracted with lots of other local places, but ended up waking in toward the end of our trip and having an amazing time. First off, this place is BYOB. They serve water and empty wine glasses - bring some wine to fill those. It's awesome, and you can spend more on the yummy food, which is an investment in your happiness! Our party did an order of the gazpacho, the beef tartare, and the delicious honey glazed octopus to start, followed by the feta gnuddi (subbing out the potato for ricotta) with duck confit, a wonderful cod dish with artichoke purée, and a wonderful squid ink risotto with shrimp and scallops. Well - the food was so damn amazing, we had to go back the next night! So, to be complete, we all decided to change up our order so we would. It repeat - we did the trout tartare, the heirloom tomato carpaccio, and the mind-blowing mushroom appetizer. For our main courses, we had the flank steak with cheddar mashed potatoes / mushrooms and the sweetbreads. Everything was on point - served at proper temperature, texture, and doneness. Service was amazing for both nights. Not sure where previous reviewers had an issue. Our first night, there was ONE server for the WHOLE place (20+ People) and we didn't notice this fact until we were getting ready to settle the bill. If you are going to hang out in this area, La Prunelle is an amazing place that is absolutely worth your time and the expense. Delicious, friendly, and attentive, they have all it takes to be amazing, and they bring it time and time again. We loved it, and will most definitely return on our next trip to Montréal!!!

Yelp
I tried this byob today and it was pleasant. I'd never heard of it before and though it was new but it seems like I was wrong. They've been around for a while. They have the whole wall made of windows which is nice and luminous. They're actually garage doors so I guess it must all open in summer. Food was nice with fresh ingredients. Nothing overcomplicated but tasty overall. The wild mushroom sautée as appetizer was good and the magret de canard is well-made too. Friendly, casual, with a laid back feeling. I'll probably go back during the summer too.

Yelp
Had a fantastic dinner with a friend here last night! The grilled octopus was delicious, as was the goat cheese salad. My friend ordered the salad as well, along with the beef tartar. We were both very pleased! For desert she enjoyed the crème brûlée and I had the butternut squash cake with salted caramel and chai tea, mascarpone and clementines. I am still thinking about how amazing it was this morning. Apart from the food, BYOW was a plus and the service was great. We will be back soon to try a few other things that caught our eyes on the menu! (And for that cake of course)

Yelp
The place had such delicious tartare it was unbelievable! We found La Prunelle randomly walking around and were so happy to land our dinner in this nice restaurant. BYOB was not very common to us coming from the US, but the waitress recommended a SAQ store at the corner where we chose the wine to our liking. We had a steak tartare and a duck tartare which was on a specials board for an appetizer and shared rabbit gnuddi for main course with a creme brûlée for dessert. Everything was amazing! It was the best meal we've had in Montreal. I can recommend La Prunelle for a romantic date or a group dinner - we saw large groups popping in with lots of wine brought with them. Our waitress was very nice and was very helpful with the menu. The only thing I would change is adding more music to the place. When we arrived the place was very quiet and only at about 9 pm they put on some music which made the atmosphere even better.

Yelp
I haven't been to this restaurant in years and then all of a sudden I went twice in less than a week! The first time was for mtl a table. I started with the lamb tataki with foie gras and marinated chanterelles. This was my favorite dish of the night. it was so delicious! I never had lamb tataki before. The slices were very thin. I then had the pork belly with apple & bourbon glaze and the pork filet. The pork belly was better than the pork filet. I found the latter to be more on the dry side which is normal. My aunt had the seared black cod with Jerusalem artichokes chips and grilled corn.I took a bite and it was very good! It was better than some that I've had in Montreal. Lastly we shared the butternut squash cake with salted caramel, chai tea and mascarpone marinated clementine and the crème brulée. Both desserts were very good. The butternut squash cake was similar to carrot cake. I've never had butternut squash cake before but it's good. Good to know that it's not only good in soups Lol. I also went back on the Monday with two of my girl friends for the $1 oysters. I found out about it when I went to reserve online for mtl a table. Once I saw the ad on the La Prunelle website I knew I had to go back because $1 oysters and BYOB is so up my alley!! We had four dozen oysters. They were small and I don't know why but every so often I had peices of the shell in my mouth which I didn't enjoy very much. The oysters itself tasted fine and were fresh but yet $1 oysters at flyjin are so much bigger and better. We also shared three entrées:the grilled octopus , the salmon rillette and the beef tartare. My favorite was the grilled octopus. It was so good!! It was cooked to perfection and there was jalapeno but it wasn't spicy and even squid ink. The salmon rillette is like a paté but wit fish. It was good but prob my least favorite of the three. The beef tartare was also good but nothing special. I recommend this resto if you want a good French BYOB ! It's a good date place or even a resto to drink and eat good food with friends.

Yelp
We were a pretty large group coming in for a special occasion on a Saturday night. They gave us the 9pm reservation which I guess is fine since it's the second seating and we wouldn't feel rushed. Well no worries there, it took 3 hours to get to the coffee. First thing we were asked when we walked in, "are all 18 of you coming"? I said I think so, though I can't predict in any way if someone won't show up. The waiter looked frustrated with us already. First, they gave our group the regular menu for 30mins. Then, as we thought they were taking our order, the rude waiter came by and just took everyone's menus away. Weird. Then they handed us a group menu, which is relatively the same but some people had to choose something new. I see the differences between the two. At 51$ a person, the group menu plates are embarrassingly small. They should be humiliated to serve that. My fiancé ordered the scallops, and there came only one on his plate. And it was not big. Wild. My duck breast was half a breast, maybe and my potatoes were actually one fingerling potato cut in half.... no vegetables on the plate either. The taste was not enough to save it. A scraping of sauce was given. Finally someone in our group complained to what we presumed was the owner, and she proceeded to blame the guys in the kitchen and saying she's "had enough with these guys". If you're the owner, you decide what goes on the plates, so nice try lady! She tried to offer us more dessert but her attempts at midnight at this point were not welcomed. For a BYOW, prepare to open your own bottles and not see your waiters. Also prepare to hand them your plates as they haven't learned to bend forward and reach yet... a VERY ODD experience all in all. And EXPENSIVE for leaving there starving. If you're looking for this style with a much better execution, try Le Pegase nearby. Good portions and excellent service.

Yelp
This is a great little BYOB bistro, conveniently located near the SAQ one block away on St Denis. The menu is such that making up one's mind is difficult but they offered a "degustation" menu that seemed to tick all the boxes so the four of us opted to go that way. Three of us swayed toward Veal Sweetbreads in a cream and urchin on Spätzle but the Missus went for the Duck. (the duck was tastier) My appetizer of lobster with vegetables and yuzu mayonnaise was good, but not Nova Scotia good. Still, a good effort considering the lobster had to travel so far to see me. The Sweetbreads were very delicate and the spätzle had excellent toothsomeness but overall I thought it was all a little too delicate. The teeny-tiny nibble of the Missus's duck that I was offered on the other hand was OMG good. I usually order better than she does but this time she chose the superior dish. For desert I had the cheese plate - three local cheeses that were served with crispy bread. Quite yummy and an excellent choice of desert given that we still had a gargle of wine left in the bottle. Service was friendly but unexpectedly slow - but that led to even more time having a good conversation with friends so it all worked out.

Yelp
Had read some great reviews so I was looking forward to this place. The food was mediocre. Under seasoned. Nice presentation but bland all around. Mushroom entree needed to be cooked longer, beef tartare was not seasoned, tomato salad was literally a few tomatoes on the plate, lobster was not available and was replaced with grilled octopus which was ok. The service however is what tipped the scale. Waiting 20 minutes to see our waiter again after having our food literally thrown into the table was a bit shocking. Normally - in a nice restaurant the waiter will arrive with a plate and wait for you to move your glass or fork if needed. They don't just shove the plate, moving everything around it, in front of you. Was quite disappointed. He was rushed and it made the evening a little less pleasant. On the upside, as always, we have a good time when eating out and enjoyed our evening. We will not be returning to this place.

Yelp
Would give this 2 1/2 stars if I could. Overall this place just didn't deliver. The setup is cute, but a little too bright. It also gets very noisy, probably because there is very little space between the tables. The menu showcased many odd / surprising food combinations. I came in curious to see how these would turn out. The trout tartar was nice but could have used more salt and a little extra punch. I then had the tuna and sweet breads, which were just sitting on chopped zucchini and a soggy, watery tomato sauce - which also could have use more salt. The tuna wasn't cooked well either. They offer nice proteins but the execution was too poor for us to enjoy. However, those who stuck with something more classic (red meat options) were hugely satisfied and loved their dishes. Maybe the secret is not to get too adventurous when eating at La Prunelle. Other good side is the BYOB because the prices are quite high - around 50$-55$ per person, without tax / service. Too many good places in Montreal for me to go back there.

Yelp
Very unpleasant experience: The place is on Duluth and the ambience is alright. The menu is quite pricey for what you get, the finesse is great but the taste is meeh. If you go for the chef's menu for 51bucks you are most likely to pay extra for certain dishes. The most unpleasant part was though was the service, there was this young waiter who rushed everything and was very sloppy, spilled a glass of wine on one of us in the group. We were 9 people who were ready to leave quite generous tips but this guy insisted on talking in French with us whereas there was only one person speaking in French in our group. He kept dropping stuff in the restaurant. Didn't really apologize or offer anything in exchange of the spilled wine. My sister had severe allergy to eggs and even though she warned him when ordering he brought her beef tartar with mayonnaise, she was cautious enough so she didn't trust him, she could have had a serious situation. We paid 310$+tips for 6 people and only 2 of us had the degustation menu, the rest had only main dish. This excludes the wine since this place is BYOW... At this moment now we are arguing with the waiter because he was not happy with the tip we left him. He accused us saying we didn't tell him about the egg, or did not have a reservation so he had to be sloppy because of the table setting. He was not apologizing but just answering back to whatever we said. People were much older and even elderly he was not respectful. I won't come back to this place ever. Just pick up another place on Duluth there are many other nice places for you to be treated for what you paid for.

Yelp
I was at Prunelle last night for a friend's birthday and had a lovely experience. We felt the food was delicious and about what we were expecting to pay - under $50 per person for 2 or 3 courses each, not including the wine we brought ourselves. Everyone yummed a lot, from the spicy steak tartar, to the mushrooms with truffle oil, to the magret de canard, to the bison ribs with polenta fries, roast rabbit, all the way through to the perfect crème brûlée that arrived with a surprise sparkler for our birthday girl. We had no service issues. Sunday in early, snowy March we had the place almost to ourselves. Nobody rushed us and we felt well taken care of in this chill, chic joint by the Duluth cobblestones.

Yelp
The prices are mid/upper level Byow, but the food isn't worth the prices. There are my much better options if you're looking to spend 80$ for 2 in the plateau. I've been about 5 times because I have a friend who likes this restaurant. But I would never choose it on my own. The service is plain weird. There is an older lady who appears to run things. And the waitresses follow her lead. I'm finding difficult to explain why it's weird. But I just don't like it. By the end of the night they are always more preoccupied with counting their receipts than servicing their clients.

Justice S.

Yelp
3.5 stars. Service slow at times (let's say paced) BYOB. Great. Beer at a BYOB hmmm, not so great. Tables don't turn over with the regular pace of a non-BYOB. Food was good Portions small to medium at best. Good atmosphere especially if the weather is good. On the corner with roll up doors to let the air in, great as long as someone on the street isn't smoking.
google avatar

Farin I.

Yelp
Yumm ine of the best byow restos out in Montreal. Must try the lamb shank if you're looking to get blown away. Aside that loved the area up a nice walk in the plateau and in a small touristy place. They do get jam packed so make sure you reserve ahead. Waiter service attentive and sharp. The ambiance: just cozy and romantic a nice place to chat up with two or 3 friends or a loved one. It really really gets nicer in the night with the dark look and candlelight spotlights ; )

Yelp
Went to this great BYOB restaurant last Saturday. Called pretty late and they managed to squeeze our table of 4 in despite it being packed. At first, we started out with the octopus entree with boiled potatoes and squid ink with jalapeño peppers. I didn't like this dish as I found the taste of the boiled potatoes too strong and didn't find the flavors meshed well. I was worried that this was another kind of bad but looks pretty BYOB. But thankfully, the main meal was INCREDIBLE. We had the T-Bone Veal with potatoes, mushrooms, brussel sprouts and a cheddar sauce. This must've been one of the best meals I've had. It was cooked to perfection. 3 of us had it and we all loved it. Great ambiance too. They don't try to rush you out either. Will definitely go back!

Joshua F.

Yelp
Mediocre at best. We payed for the chef's menu ($50) and charging extra for tea, certain appetizers, or cafe au lait is absurd. Give me a break. The lamb was fantastic - 5 stars Sturgeon - 3 stars Mushrooms - 4 stars foie gras - 2 stars Menu - 1 star. Extra pricing was obnoxious. Not bad. Not great. The location saves it.

Yelp
Good food but the waitress asked me for more tip after her bad service!

Benjamin

Yelp
This is one of my favourite upscale restaurants for traditional middle-of-the road French food, in Montreal. A solid choice for special dates and family occassions. The wait staff and service are excellent, a bit formal but very informed and potentially very helpful if you ask. They are not unfriendly in the L'express mode, just well, professional. The standard menu is competent and there are some inventive combinations especially on the specials of the day, but everything is very recognizable. For example, you will surely find a bavette on the menu, likely in a port reduction, but the chef might put stewed apricots in for orange colour and to complement a very nice row of asparagus stacked like ammunition on your plate. The ingredients are definitively fresh and great care is taken to make the meal itself worth your $45 or so per person. The emphasis is on European standbys done well here. Presentation is taken seriously but not pompously. It is a BYOW establishment so please choose a good wine carefully and you won't regret it. This is a birthday / special visitors kind of place in my book, and the interior is deep wood and black with a very nice window on Duluth. The restaurant is rarely full. Desserts are a special treat here, but I keep getting stuck on the creme caramel - one of the better ones in town. The staff will be willing to speak English here if you are completely stuck but as always please at least try (!). There is a lot of rich (i.e. complex) language in the descriptions of rich menu items so be sure you know what you're ordering _before_ the duck livers show up on your plate. :)) I recommend you go with a francophone friend if possible!

Yelp
As part of some festivities a few weeks ago, a large group of us ended up at La Prunelle for dinner before going out. It was a large group of us (around 15 folks), but we had called in advance for a reservation and arrived right on time...so it was a bit of a surprise for us to end up standing around for 20 minutes waiting not only for the previous party (which was smaller) to finish their meal, but then for everything to get cleaned and properly put together for a large group. If anything, it's symbolic of why La Prunelle only gets a tad above one star - the service was poor, to describe it charitably. Perhaps it's because we were ugly Americans north of the border, but it definitely felt like we were being put up with than being served. The impressions certainly did not improve when we were told they were short on menus(!), so we had to share some...including some French-only(!!) versions. I pretty much had to interpret the menu based off the menu on their website that had some (but not all) of the dishes with English subtitles. After a lengthy wait to finally place our order (another note: we had to wait way too long in between courses), we finally got our hands on some food to eat, which, for a large group, came off of a set menu. I went with the mushrooms with truffle oil to start; these were really good - cooked through just enough so they weren't soggy, and marinated with a richly truffle-infused sauce that really enhanced the earthy flavors of the mushrooms. I split a foie gras appetizer with a few others, and while it was solid, I've had better foie elsewhere. I went with the braised beef shoulder for the entree, and the preparation was great - not overly heavy despite the cut of meat, and very succulent and with a rich marinade making for a delicious bite of meat. The dash of thick pumpkin puree, though, was a misfire, with the flavor just not complementing the beef very well on its own. For dessert, I ordered the chocolate tart...which I never got. I'm not kidding; we had paid for dinner when the entrees come out, but they brought out dessert for only half of the table, and since we had to pick up and go, we didn't stick around to wait for the rest to eventually make its way to us. I had a bite of someone else's as I was standing up to go - decent flavoring, but a bit too light for my preferences. On sheer service alone, this was one of the worst experiences I've had recently. I had definitely anticipated better, and I would only recommend coming here if you are with a small group of people and are planning to have a meal at a VERY relaxed pace. The food is alright for sure, but it's not something that I would take the chance of enduring the kind of service that was provided here again. Very surprising that on a Saturday night (ostensibly one of the more popular nights for folks to go out and eat), we had such a difficult and trying experience.

Yelp
After passing by this restaurant on numerous occasions, I finally got a chance to try it on an outing with my colleagues. Unfortunately, this experience was not a positive one. While the ambiance and plating of the dishes were lovely, the quality of the food didn't quite match the overall appearance. To start, the chorizo black pudding was actually quite pleasant. However, the trouble arose with the main course: another person and I both ordered the black cod, which turned out to be a mistake. It arrived at the table smelling like a fresh seafood market, was extremely chewy, all of which indicated that it was extremely underdone. When told, our waiter took back the dishes with a gruff and had new ones prepared. Painstakingly, we watched as everyone else finished their mains until ours returned to us after quite some time with an explanation that the original piece had come from a fattier part of the fish that didn't have to be cooked quite so much. We questioned why a restaurant of such caliber would bother serving such a thing in the first place as we ravenously dug into our new pieces of cod, which were admittedly much better. Unfortunately, my time with my food was cut abruptly short as the server took away my half-eaten dish without asking me first. Mistakenly, I thought that dessert and a coffee could save the day. However, my crème brûlée ended up being far too burnt on the top and suspiciously chewy underneath, while a colleague's was prepared better and was thus far smoother. The coffee also tasted like vaguely caffeinated hot water. Considering the price tag, the lack of consistency from this restaurant was extremely jarring. The service could have also been better, but I'll let that slide considering there was only one waiter for the entire restaurant (and he was kind of cute, I guess). At least it was BYOW to aid us in forgetting about this meal.

Yelp
This popular bring your own wine restaurant is located in the Plateau area amongst many other BYOWs. We had high expectations for this place given it's long standing reputation. The decor was welcoming and I can understand the appeal as their windows open up completely and allow for a more 'patio experience' for a summer meal. However food was mediocre by the most. We had the octopus as an entree - a bit dry - and the bison tartar - was well seasoned and probably the best dish of the evening. For mains I ordered the feta gnuddis - gnuddis are traditionnally made with ricotta... and for a reason... the dish was SO salty that I couldn't even finish it (and for those who know me... I almost never leave food on the plate). My boyfriend ordered the rack of lamb - the lamb itself was well cooked and served with a complimenting sauce, however you can't really call it a rack of lamb if there are only two small pieces ... Thankfully the bread was very tasty and served warm, which helped to fill us out in the end. Would I return? Nope! So much better BYOWs out there especially in that price range.

Yelp
A very nice bring your own wine restaurant. When I first moved to Montreal this restaurant became a regular spot for my girlfriend and I. In July of 2015 I actually proposed to my girlfriend at La Prunelle. It went over very smooth with the help of that waiters and waitresses! I can say that I have always enjoyed my meals at La Prunelle and I always get the full course meal. My favourite thing to order (if its on the menu) is the Jarret D'agneau! This place is a must try at least once if you are a big fan of french food.

Yelp
A local favourite BYOB (Beer & Wine). The restaurant served a very nice French meal. The service was a bit slow. The food was excellently prepared.

Yelp
This is such a beautiful place, tasty food, and great service by French Boys. This is such a romantic place - my wife is in love with this place. We will definitely go back. Great for vegetarians too. Find out the meaning for "La Prunelle". It is really beautiful :))

Yelp
Went for the first (and last) time on a recommendation from an acquaintance. The food was good, but nothing impressive - especially for the price - with the exception of their trou normand (a sort of mango sorbet in apple ice cider, that night), dessert (a green tea and blueberry creme brulée) and espresso, which were actually great. But we went for the meal, not these à côtés... The place was and ::felt:: crowded, and was loud due to density. Service was not fast, which could have been OK had the general ambience been more pleasant (near the end, we couldn't wait to get out). We had a reservation for 9 o'clock, got in at 9:05 (parking... coming by car was a stupid idea) and got seated moments past 9:25. We are intermediate cooks and felt that we could've made the same dishes ourselves without much trouble - it's more work in preparation and dishwashing, but I would've preferred washing dishes to spending close to three hours in that place. Would've given 3 stars if the prices had been lower.

Forbidden Meal ..

Yelp
My overall experience from La Prunelle was rather deceiving. Perhaps my hopes and expectations were too high. However, for the same price (or even less), there are plenty of other restaurants in town that can offer you that higher gastronomic level I am talking about. Yelp
Yes it might be a little bit more expensive than others but it's worth it. Everything on the menu is reaaaally good, the staff is super friendly, and the place is cozy but not cramped.

Yelp
My wife and I ate there last week,St. Jean Baptist eve. The food was delicious, but it was very noisy. There was a very large party, the people stood around in the open area between the tables talking loudly. We were first seated at a small table, with some people virtually hanging over us. The wait staff went out of their way to find us a quieter spot. The maitre d' served us herself and paid special attention to us. I must commend her for her diligence.

Yelp
Another excellent Rue Duluth restaurant. On the night we were there, they seemed a little understaffed, but the wait staff were working hard and were well trained. Mushroom appetizer was excellent, as was guinea hen/mushroom entree special. All in all a great experience. Pro tip: the depanneur down the block has a few decent bottles of red wine. (This is BYO.)
