La Pulpería 44th HK

La Pulperia is a great spot for Latin eats and drinks in Hells Kitchen. They have cocktail specials for happy hour, which we enjoyed including the Amano Sour, Mezcal-arita de la Casa, and an Espresso Martini. We didn't have it this time, but the YOLO glass is great if you want to share a pitcher of Sangria with friends, or drink it all by yourself! The Grilled Octopus and its garnishes are excellent as a starter. We also enjoyed the Ceviche Mixto and Guacamole & Chips. For dinner, the Skirt Steak & Fries is one of the signature dishes of this restaurant. They also have Churros for dessert which rock!

We were looking for dinner before a show and came across this place. If you tell them you have a show to catch, they'll make sure you get out on time and rush your food orders which we appreciated. They do have a prefix theater menu but we ended up just sticking with the regular menu. Everything we got was delicious, flavorful and filling. We didn't have a reservation and had no problem getting a table right away on a week night.

I quite liked this place! We wanted to watch a soccer game and saw it was packed so decided to go in. The service was good and very attentive during our whole dinner. The atmosphere was nice and the food was quite good! The Moqueca Mixta is a great option for two folks and the queso fundido was also very good. Sangria was also tasty!

If you're looking for a spot in the theater district that offers tasty food at reasonable prices, La Pulperia is a gem. It's not dirt cheap, but for the area, it's probably one of the best deals you'll find. I've been coming here for a while, and it's consistently good. The service here is usually on point. Sure, they might fumble now and then, but overall, you're going to have a good time. I've even encountered a staff member having a rough day once, but it was a rare blip on the radar. I keep coming back, so that should tell you it's just an outlier. The ambiance? It's a bit of a wild mix. The decor feels like they're going for a "party" vibe, and the music is pretty loud. I wouldn't mind if they toned it down a bit, but it does add to the lively atmosphere. Starting with the guacamole--it's not the best I've ever had, but it's good. I appreciate that they serve it with big tostadas instead of the usual small chips. It's a nice touch. The lobster taquitos are a highlight. They're nicely presented and very well seasoned. If you're a seafood fan, these are a must-try. The fried calamari is another solid choice. Crispy, golden, and just the right amount of seasoning. Perfect for Now, the Argentinian Parrillada is where La Pulperia really shines. It's tasty and the portion is generous. Plus, the sides of salad and potatoes make it a big bang for your buck. You'll leave here full and happy. So, if you're in the neighborhood and want good food without breaking the bank, give La Pulperia a shot. It's a fun spot with a lot to offer!

What a gem! We tried the pulperia, chips and salsa, and guacomole for appetizers. All great! My husband had never had tuna before, but he will now! The best. For dinner we had black paelle😉 Wow! The food was fresh and tasty. The drinks were all made fresh. Great stop for dinner.

Food is great and service at the bar fantastic! The atmosphere sucks. It is freezing outside and inside they must be saving on heating! Where is the Latina American warm atmosphere, ambiance and welcoming! Going to the French place across the street to warm up!

Service was okay. I went for brunch and got the omlette and it was fine but I think I just had higher expectations based off the reviews.

So as you may have noticed, when we depart on each new road adventure we try and keep our followers in the loop. We want to avoid any confusion related to the location of the posts that immediately follow, and we also want to hear if you have any great suggestions for us to experience and then share with others. It is for that second reason that we are most grateful to @alan_howe because when he read that we were headed to NYC he enthusiastically submitted several recommendations including “La Pulperia.” Their menu features rustic Latin cuisine and we found it immediately intriguing. We began our journey with the “King Crab Guacamole” and “Beef Empanadas” before transitioning to the “Roasted Chicken” and the “Moqueca Mixta.” The latter was so unbelievably delicious that our server brought over what we spontaneously referred to as “the mercy spoon” because he simply could no longer bear to watch me futilely attempt to extract the remnants of the sauce with my fork. (Sorry, not sorry.) Just when we thought our meals couldn’t possibly get any better Alan insisted that we try a “Pisco Sour” (which may just be the best cocktail that we’ve ever enjoyed). You won’t find it on the menu, so you’ll need to drop Alan’s name in order to be granted access to it. That might feel initially unnatural, but you’ll get used to it. Heck, I’ve been riding Alan’s coattails for years! Some would tell you that I have a way with words (and by that they’d mean that I use way too many of them). It’s with that backdrop that I report that my meal was so incredible that…I was speechless for a period of time (fact). When I did regain my ability to speak I found myself suddenly able to speak in foreign languages (slight exaggeration). While I’ve always held Alan in high esteem, I’m now feeling even more grateful for the ability to benefit from the exceptional cuisine standards of such a good friend.
