Find the Best Ceviche in Charlotte, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"At La Sa Son By Winter I tried Ecuadoran ceviche at a friendly, family-owned café (Winter is the owner). It’s not as hot as Peruvian ceviche, comes with green plantain chips instead of cancha, and even has squiggles of ketchup and mustard on top. There’s no written menu—just a chalkboard by the door—but say “ceviche” and they’ll take care of you. The place also has a karaoke setup and wall art of a futbol field built out of plastic piping." - Kathleen Purvis

Burnt food, false advertising, and awful service — avoid this place. We came in excited to try the food, but what we were served was completely burnt (see attached photos — this isn’t an exaggeration). It was dry, charred, and barely edible. We politely asked for a replacement and were told no because we had taken “a few bites.” Of course we did — how else are you supposed to realize it’s burned? We spoke directly with the owner, Winter, who not only dismissed our concern but casually admitted that the food isn’t made fresh, despite what the menu claims. According to him, they buy it from somewhere else, which means it’s likely frozen and simply reheated. That’s false advertising — plain and simple. Between the terrible customer service, the inedible food, and being lied to about what we’re eating, this was a total waste of money. Don’t fall for the fake “fresh” claims — you deserve better.

This little place was a bit of a hidden gem that I had not heard of before. It was a great surprise and the food was excellent, delicious and very authentic to my country. The atmosphere was great and the customer service was excellent. Will definitely go back.

My husband and I have eaten here several times and it's been a great experience every time. The food has been delicious and the service is excellent. Our waitress took a lot of time to describe and explain the food to us non-Ecuadorians. The owner has come out of the kitchen to greet us and ask how we like the food. They really made us feel at home. We will definitely be back.

So fortunate to have the best Ecuadorian cuisine restaurant close by. Every dine-in experience; the service is always at a 100! A true family owned business who actually cares about their customers with welcoming opening arms. The food tastes great here with generous size portions. You won't be disappointed!

Great service, large portions! Pickled onion garnish is delicious and adds a ton of body to the dish! I got the chicken in peanut butter sauce.

Google
What a great and pleasant surprise. It's like finding a hidden gem. Not only was the food extremely fresh and delicious, the family atmosphere of Ecuador embraced the entire experience. I so very much look forward to coming back with my friends and family.

I went out of the way to try Ecuadorian food in Charlotte. The fish stew was decent with plantain chips accompanying it. If I were to come back, I would try a different dish.

We grew up in Ecuador and we are very disappointed with our experience visiting this restaurant. For starters, they don't have a menu... It was frustrating that we had to ask for prices, which the waiter didn't really know, and in the end we got charged more. The Ceviche didn't meet our expectations, Encebollado lacked flavor and as of the Super Bandera: the Guatita was too watery and the Fish was to dry! Food looked great though, hence the 2 Stars. Last but not least, I couldn't even chat with my family because they rushed us because there were others waiting to be seated, the place is too small. Kung Fu Tea which is next door saved the day!!

Yelp
I have visited this restaurant twice already. Management is polite and the ambiance is nice and not overwhelming, which I appreciate. The food is good, homemade-like and the portions are adequate, although it did taste different on the second visit. I feel like the first time was much better than the second but the quality was still as fresh! You can also notice that at the kitchen window, the meals all come out at different times. The service is also slow and a little disorganized, so I recommend to stay patient when you visit. Overall, I will continue to come to enjoy their delicious, hard-to-find, Ecuadorian food! P.S. I was too focused on eating that I forgot to take pictures, so here are screenshots of a video that I sent to my family lol.

Yelp
Awesome tasting food wished I had time to dine in. Was in the neighborhood and decided to try this for my first time and placed a take out order, lunch crowd so waited for 20 mins but was worthwhile as the dish came out piping hot and delicious tasting! Will definitely return!

Lots of options for different tastes from fish such as albacore ,mahi -mahi , shrimp , steak and chicken so many other options ,also many drink choices and authentic Ecuadorian sodas ! They serve a new lunch option all day throughout the week with new options each day that comes with a soup and a lunch plate , they have soups and much more with great customer service and a friendly environment !

Yelp
Came by to try the food and it did not disappoint. Really good food! Portions are pretty generous in my opinion, I didn't get to finish mine and took it home. For the table, we ordered the empanadas de verde and for my main dish I ordered the Tonga (chicken with a peanut sauce and served with rice and sweet plantain). They do have the main staples of Ecuadorian food from the drinks to the dishes. Staff are very friendly. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Gorgeous, authentic experience! Daniel was wonderful with explaining some of the dishes and ingredients ! I enjoyed the Carne Asada- best I have ever had! The lentils were muy delicioso!! The house sauces were quite hot! I enjoyed the music and the vibe was family-oriented! Enjoyed a new drink- Quaker, which was perfect for the fall season. Gracias!

Yelp
Highly recommend!! We drove 30 miles out of the way to eat authentic Ecuadorian food. The staff was warm and gracious. The food was fresh and worth the extra drive. Jose recommends the encebollado pescado Gracias!!

Yelp
WOW GREAT traditional flavors of Ecuador . Hearty stews and Ceviches. Don't skip on the Chifes and a fresh order of golden fried plantains.

Yelp
Had an excellent bowl of shrimp and fish (mahi) ceviche. If you love lots of fish and shrimp in your ceviche you'll love this ceviche. The flavors were just right and the waiter gave me some tasty hot salsa to spice it up to my liking. The staff was very friendly and service was excellent. One odd thing is they don't seem to have a menu; the waiter described items and showed me pictures on his phone. I'll definitely be back soon.

Yelp
Terrible! Save your money and time. What a disgrace to Ecuador. The soup had one yuca and very tough "gallina." It was either going bad or overcooked. The seco de gallina was salty! The best part was the two cans of sodas. The price is outrageous for the amount of food given. Forget the service- such tragedy. The health department will most likely shut them down..or they should. Will not be recommending this place at all. Please take down the Ecuadorian flag because your food gives all Ecuadorian food a bad name. Que Pena!

Salo P.

Yelp
Authentic Ecuadorian food finally :) it is tasty and they have a variety of options. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Its a very new place. Still getting things established...you can tell. But its awesome. The food is great. I live on the beach so I ordered like 12 togo dishes. Accommodated everything and packed it up real nice to withstand my drive. The encebollado is always great. And the Ceviche.... Chefs kiss. Most Ecuadorians around Charlotte will tell you.... This is the spot to go get some good Ecuadorian food.

Joel R.

Yelp
Food has an ok taste but the portions for what they charge is ridiculous. Way too much rice and barely enough carne guisada to cover it. Way overpriced and will not return

Angie T.

Yelp
The encebollado NEVER disappoints! Sooo good! The service is great and the food always tastes delicious.

Amy D.

Yelp
Delicioso Ceviche de Camarón and l encebollado my Mom & aunt loved! highly recommend this spot for authentic Ecuadorian food. 10/10 recommend Greta service big smiles is all you see around!

Portocupones S.

Yelp
Si pudiera les daria CERO estrellas. En mis 20 años viviendo en USA. Nunca había sida tan mal tratada e injustamente.
