"COVID-19 Update: Open for takeout and delivery . A classic lunch spot, La Scala has the best chopped salad, which they do Italian-style and allow you to modify to your liking from a long list of fresh items. They also have a large selection of antipasti, soups, panini, fresh, homemade pastas and more. While the Beverly Hills location is the classic, the Brentwood version is just as tasty—and often less crowded. COVID-19 Disclaimer: We are working hard to keep our listings as up to date as possible (deliveries, outdoor dining, etc.), but given the evolving nature of local COVID-19 restrictions, we recommend double-checking the information in this guide with any business you plan on visiting. Also, please note that we have not vetted any businesses listed within our guides for their compliance with applicable safety regulations."

This restaurant forces drivers to break Uber policy — seriously? This place refuses to hand over the food until the courier presses “Start Delivery” in the Uber Eats app — before even receiving the order. That’s a clear violation of how the platform is supposed to work. Because of this: – Delivery time starts before the food is actually picked up – Drivers get blamed for delays they didn’t cause – Customers receive cold or late food – And the restaurant pretends everything is normal This isn’t how delivery should work. Drivers follow platform rules and aren’t required to confirm delivery early just to satisfy a restaurant’s internal routine. If this continues, no one should be surprised if this business ends up under formal review. Practices like this don’t stay hidden forever.

Wednesday May 14 , 2025 We picked up takeout. The worst chopped salad! The dressing was nothing but oil. No flavor. No seasoning. The salami was like bologna. So disappointing. After a few bites didn’t bother eating it! What a waste!

Google
Food never fails. They are very famous for their salads. Food is always on point. The new location is very nice. The kitchen looks bigger. Service was nice. They are momentarily not officially open. I believe they did a test run today. Which btw, food was great for a test run. The address on Google is wrong btw, it's actually 3001 Wilshire Blvd Santa Monica, California 90403 I suggest that once it officually opens you give everything on the menu a try (not in one visit though).

Google
Delicious pasta and great service. The salads looked really good too. Very pleasant waitress and patient with my elderly aunt and uncle. Apparently they have been going there for over 30 years!

Google
No recent positive reviews. we too had a bad experience ordering two salads. Very underwhelming, below average for an overpriced small salad for four. Flavorless. They could do better but don't seem to care. Josh did not offer any positive resolution when i called from home after picking salads up; I guess they are used to hearing complaints.

Google
We fell on this place after our original choice was closed for lunch. We ordered spaghetti with meat sauce, meat sandwich, and chopped salad. The pasta looked like someone actually threw up on it, that is how unappetizing it looked. The salad was literally chopped lettuce with a few garbanzo beans, and the meat sandwich, we asked for no mushrooms, the sandwich came loaded with mushrooms, to cover up the chewy, low quality meat inside. The help was lovely. The cost of the above meal was just shy of $70- which included tip and two soft drinks. Unbelievably disappointing lunch, overpriced, we left hungry. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY at this place. This is primarily a take out place, food was served in paper containers. This is NOT anywhere near the caliber of food that they serve at the LA SCALA in Beverly Hills. Probably one of the worst lunches I have ever had.

Yelp
The La Scala salad is fantastic! Famous around these parts for years. Now it's La Scala to go, which is even better - quick pick up on the way home - love it!

Lisette G.

Yelp
They screwed up my order and then spent 5 minutes explaining that they were too busy to check the orders. The guilt trip was free!

Yelp
The worst chopped salad! The dressing was nothing but oil. No seasoning. No taste. The salami was like balogna.

Yelp
Update time; what a difference a few years make! Post COVID we just don't cook much anymore so we've gotten very familiar with all the take-out on the West Side. First off, the food is good here, better than most of the gazillion Italian places in Brentwood. Prices are still high, but everyone else has caught up with them do that point's moot. The chef is still a PIA if you want anything special, but the staff is usually nice and, remember, the food IS good. We are now regulars...

Yelp
Best salad in town (The Original Chopped)....because of the salad dressing! Nothing compares to dining in the restaurant in Beverly Hills, though. For some reason they don't like to give you extra extra dressing even if you ask to pay for them! I've never ordered anything but the original, tuna or chopped chicken salads....they can't be beat!

Mebe S.

Yelp
Salads are decent but for two salads the total was $51.00!!!! I'm not making this up. They charge 25 bucks for just one single salad. Never again. I imagine the owners are laughing at us for paying these prices for a salad.

Yelp
I've ordered from a 3rd party delivery service from them before and the food showed up cold so I wasn't sure if it was them or the service now I know it's this location. I have the flu (I don't have a kitchen or microwave in my apartment) , so my mom was kind enough to go out and grab me a pasta, and had requested napkins and utensils , tipped 20% - weren't put in the bag so I'm eating with old chop sticks- she just picked it up and it's cold I have no way of re-heating it, no parm packets or utensils or napkins cold pasta every time even if it's pick up . Only the Beverly Hills location is good this one has poor quality control. I wouldn't get anything from here unless you like your pizza and pasta cold.

Tanna H.

Yelp
The absolute worst salad unrecognizable from the original of the original Beverly Hills location. Dressing is an oily, flavorless mess with no relation to the original classic dressing, and for $20+ for a lifeless plate of iceberg, a handful of old garbanzos, and crazy upcharges for red onion, tomatoes instead of salami, no price deduction for a pricey item, though, this rip-off will be the last time I support a business that cares not about quality, flavor, and a decades-old reputation, but instead drafting on a once good and trusted name.

Carrie M.

Yelp
I forgot what a ripoff this restaurant has become. Ordered chopped turkey salad - nothing extra - $28 for a pound of lettuce, some turkey and small bit of cheese. Ridic! Will never order it again. If u want go buy their dressing if they sell it and which is really what sells the salad I think and then make ur own salad.
google avatar

Yelp
I get one thing only here and that's their chopped salad with tuna or chopped chicken. Extra dressing and it's always good.

Yelp
And now The Definitive Comparison between La Scala To-Go (LCSM) and La Scala Beverly Hills (LSBH): I know a lot of you from reading the other reviews talk about missing La Scala Brentwood--I did not even know all these years there was a La Scala Brentwood? Really? All I ever knew about was La Scala Beverly Hills! My friend loves La Scala Beverly Hills and has ordered and picked up from there during Covid a few times for us and I celebrated my birthday there a couple of years ago--fun fun place. I recommend La Scala Beverly Hills. The main dish I almost always get at La Scala Beverly Hills is the Salmon (the Spaghetti with meat sauce is great too) so for this head to head comparison of LSBH vs. LSSM I ordered the Salmon via Uber Eats Delivery last week. Who is going to win? Santa Monica OR Beverly Hills? Place your bets now! Here are the results: Salmon: LSBH: 5 of 5, *LSSM: 4 of 5 (come with) Asparagus: LSBH: 5 of 5, **LSSM: 5 of 5 Mashed Potatoes: LSBH: 4 of 5, ***LSSM: 5 of 5 Grilled Onions: LSBH: 5 of 5, LSSM: 5 of 5 and Stewed Tomatoes: LSBH: 5 of 5, ****LSSM: 3 of 5 *Same salmon they told me--LSSM overbaked it a bit so it was dryer. **LSBH gives you 4 Asparagus Spears, LSSM only gives you 2 Asparagus Spears. ***LSSM gives you more Mashed Potatoes than LSBH and LSSM tastes a bit better. ****LSBH has a much better preparation than LSSM of the Tomatoes that taste incredible over the Salmon if you do that. So the winner is: La Scala Beverly Hills! The close runner up is: La Scala Santa Monica.

Yelp
Love this spot for my pre airplane meal. Ask for no cheese and add turkey and it lasts a lot longer thst way. Such an easy and efficient phone in service. Best chopped salad on planet earth.

Kendra S.

Yelp
Not as good as the dine-in La Scala was in Brentwood. Way too expensive for the chopped salad and should have a smaller portion size available.
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
We liked the chopped salad years ago when they were in Brentwood. We decided to give it a shot and get the chopped salad again. We should've read the reviews. NEVER ORDER FROM LA SCALA The "chopped salad" they delivered was just lettuce with some garbanzo beans. Nothing else on it. When we called them they were incredibly rude. They said "oh yeah, your order went missing" but offered absolutely no solution. SAM AT LA SCALA IS INCREDIBLY RUDE AND UNHELPFUL We asked to get the number for the manager Because apparently the manager is not on site. When we called it just went to voicemail. So now I'm f-big fuming because I PAID $35 FOR TWO CONTAINERS OF LETTUCE. NEVER, EVER EVER GO TO LA SCALA. can I give them negative stars?
google avatar

Cindy T.

Yelp
Not as good as cannon location I specifically called and asked for a second salad dressing Which I have done for 15 years with the Beverly Hills location Not only did they not give me the second dressing They didn't place the one dressing that comes with the salad and I was left with unrecognizable no dressing , hardly any turkey , a few chic peas It was Mostly iceberg lettuce with maybe 6. Chic peas and hardly there protein The manager didn't apologize or even offer to let me Beverly Hills location needs to check on this location often .
google avatar

Shaun R.

Yelp
There was a broken cap in my chop salad. Please proceed with caution. Far removed from the days it was in Brentwood.

Yelp
I will never order again. Basil pesto does not mean a cream sauce.. Grilled vegetables do not mean barely steamed And and And Gnocchi is not mashed potato pillows. What are you doing?

Dana W.

Yelp
Delicious! Always delivered fresh and timely- would highly recommend.Chopped salad is the best

Yelp
WTF HAPPENED. Honestly? The WORST Italian I've had in years. I've been going to La Scala Brentwood my ENTIRE life. I order the chopped salads regularly (those are still wonderful) . Tonight my boyfriend and I decided to mix it up and add a flat bread and lasagna to our order. BIG MISTAKE. 1. Worst lasagna of my life. Literally have had better lasagna at my public middle school cafeteria. It was tough , the meat was dry and overcooked, it also has hard boiled eggs in it. I highly suggest saving the $29 and buying a lean cuisine. You'll save cash, calories and your taste buds. (Btw. I've had this dish at the previous Brentwood location, NOT even close to the same thing. Major corners being cut. Not even similar quality, same price) 2. By flat bread, they mean deep dish, Chicago style pizza, in a rectangular shape. Here I would suggest dominions, somewhere I haven't eaten in 20 years but I'm confident they would do a significantly better job. BEYOND DISAPPOINTED. Ruined my Friday night.

Yelp
While running errands in the area, I stumbled upon this establishment and wanted to support so I ordered the La Scala Chicken Salad. To my dismay I paid $18.50 ( online the price is listed as $19.25) for a box of chopped lettuce with chicken and garbanzo beans. Come to think of it, on the menu, mozzarella cheese is listed as a topping on the salad yet there was no cheese on my salad. I'm still pretty angry about the fact that I paid for a whole bunch of lettuce with some chicken on it. I wanted to add additional garbanzo beans but that would have been an additional $1.75 so I quickly changed my mind. My friend ordered the chicken sandwich which came with triple the protein and the sandwich was $13.75 (if I remember correctly). I'm most likely going to be bitter about this for a while as I have not been eating out and when I finally decide to, it was a very overpriced and dissatisfying experience.

David C.

Yelp
OMG .... Paying $34 for a chopped salad (adding in the tomatoes and anchovies, and tax of course). Plus, they ask for a tip on top of that. And that's $34 for a to-go salad you'll eat with a plastic fork. Are you freaking kidding me!!!! It's a good salad but the value proposition is so terrible. It is beyond belief. Inflation? More like greed.

Tara S.

Yelp
Their chopped salad is addicting. Make sure to ask for an extra dressing. One is never enough.

Anne B.

Yelp
Pasta is over cooked and salty. No options for low sodium pasta to go. They need to step up their game. Olive oil is ok Too much salt is not.

Yelp
The new La Scala location in Santa Monica sucks! They moved from Brentwood to Santa Monica and everything about it is difficult. The location is confusing, the parking is not easy to get in and out of. There is no longer an option to dine in. It's To-Go orders only. They've changed the bread too. Apparently, it's the same company, but it's not that rustic chewy, flavorful bread anymore. And, they now charge for that too! And no butter to speak of. The prices have gone up, the portions are slightly smaller. It's like they've lost their soul. It used to be so wonderful being greeted by the friendly staff and seeing all the chefs hard at work. It gave the place Atmosphere. Now there's nothing. It looks just like a chipotle or the front desk of a hair salon. The excuse they gave is that they did better business with To-Go orders then they did with dine in. The problem is, with this new awkward to get to location, lack of soul, and lesser quality products, harder to order online, they will probably start losing those To-Go orders, soon. I give them a year or less before this one shuts down permanently. Very sad day for La Scala in deed.

P K.

Yelp
I ordered many dinners over the course of the pandemic from this location and they were all fine. About a year ago I ordered a salmon salad which was a favorite. Got home to discover the salmon was burnt to a crisp. Called afterwards to complain and instead of apologizing and offering to credit my card they said I should have checked the order before I left. Classy. Last Saturday night I decided to give them another try. Ordered the salmon salad. This time it was under cooked and the fish did not taste fresh. And it cost about four dollars more. Like rolling the dice? By all means order from La Scala.

Yelp
I used to love the Westside location of La Scala then they moved and changed their format. So needless to say I was very disappointed. After moving out of town and coming back, I was hoping to at least have the chopped salad. Only to be disappointed again. Oh, what has become of La Scala. A Los Angeles icon has disappeared from view. What's a diner to do?

Norman L.

Yelp
I love the actual restaurant in Beverly Hills. The Chicken Parm entree I had from this place was the worst I've had anywhere. It tasted like rubber as if it had been over cooked in a microwave.

Robin S.

Yelp
The salad was so bad and watery. I couldn't eat it. So sad but this place is horrible now.

Karen O.

Yelp
Still grieving the closing of the Brentwood location... while the menu at the takeout only location in SM is still the same and some dishes still as good, portions have decreased, prices have increased, bread is no longer included with meals, and they don't seem to care about their customers that have loved and supported them for 30+ years.

Mark P.

Yelp
The food was hot and delicious. Prices are fair and the take out service was fast and accurate. Excellent experienc.
google avatar

Alan C.

Yelp
Absurd position of NO SUBSTITUTIONS. even midday during a slow period and asking for chopped iceberg lettuce like with all their salads except the one with grilled shrimp and vegetables. REFUSE TO DO IT - even when no orders in the house.
google avatar

Danny W.

Yelp
Came in too have a salad and left a little disappointed. Not anything special yet the Chicken Ceaser salad at $17.50 was not much chicken yet next door the same salad was $7.59 and was tastier. Their prices for the ambiance and primarily for the to go lunch crowd leaves me wondering. Live only one block away don't think I'll return.
google avatar

Yelp
I was very surprised to see all the bad reviews. First and foremost, La Scala has always been a mediocre Italian / American restaurant with a phenomenal chopped Italian salad....so not sure what you bad reviewers expected here? I've been a weekly regular at La Scala for 5 years and always get the chopped Italian salad or chopped turkey salad or chopped tuna salad. Cuz it's bomb af. Yea, it's expensive for a salad, but it's freakin good. The fact that it's an order at the counter, to-go spot now just makes it more appealing. I've actually never even eaten at the old restaurant... always picked up Do yourself a favor, get the chopped salad. I like to add tomatoes and pepperoccini Plus get an extra dressing cuz that's really what makes it so good. Expect to pay $20 and be happy.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
Santa Monica is not a place for La Scala. The class of service and food cannot be delivered with the rental cost that they have. The owner refuses to provide complimentary bread, a tradition at every Italian restaurant; it's a given. They charge for the bread and it is served nearly ice cold (no exaggeration) with nearly frozen butter that is nearly impossible to spread. The food tastes 'cheap' because of the containers they serve it in. Before you say "oh the plastic is the same" -- it isn't. Which is why they've resorted to cheaper containers to additionally cut costs. The portions are normal, however the presentation is almost careless. Seems as though they wanted to capitalize on the to-go orders that seemed so popular at their other locations, more notably Beverly Hills. Parking is a nightmare. I've visited twice and never again.
google avatar

Mianya O.

Yelp
I'm honestly shocked at the low rated reviews. This is my go to Postmates delivery restaurant. And quite honestly, it's always spot on. I typically get the carbonara because I'm obsessed with bacon but am over ambitious about being able to finish it lol. So I started ordering red sauce-- wow, if you're looking for hearty, filling, feels like home but elevated, this hits the spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Picked up dinner after long day at hospital. The old location was a fave of my in-laws so we ordered takeout from this location despite the poor reviews. Got home to discover we had two Caesar salads with NO PARMESAN CHEESE. Just romaine, bland croutons and dressing. No cheese at all. No anchovies. All for $14 each. Oh, and bread would be an extra charge Not going back. 2 stars for the pasta my MIL ordered.

Yelp
Oh, how lucky am I To be within walking distance from this iconic restaurant ?! In a little strip mall on Wilshire? Lucky! If you find yourself craving nutritious, satisfying, huge, classic salads... Look no further. The chopped salads here are famous. For good reason. Huge, enough for lunch and dinner, or split between friends, this is a delicious satisfying meal. Ingredients are prepared when you order it. So fresh. The finely chopped cheese & salami with garbanzo beans is their 60+ year old standby classic. You can add other ingredients for an extra charge. Tuna ,tomatoes, turkey, take your pick. Their soups are amazing! With daily specials offering up quite a diverse menu. The location on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica is perfect for curbside pick up. Plenty of street parking and parking in the building. Outside dining as well. Pandemic friendly. Respecting distance and masks at all times.

Allana A.

Yelp
The food is still good and decent but I must say that I find it ridiculous to pay $30 for a chopsaw that's not his primarily iceberg lettuce. And there is really nothing special about their dressing which is basically oil and vinegar. I think it's time for a reduced their prices. Very much more abundant salad elsewhere for A fraction of the price.

Yelp
WARNING: Do not read if squeamish. Service has always been bad at La Scala, but they were known for having a good chopped salad, so they mostly got away with it. After leaving the Brentwood location, it seems the quality now matches the service. I ordered the chopped salad through Postmates a few nights ago, and not only was it not as good as it used to be, it also had a HUGE fly in it. I'm not talking a questionable speck, I'm talking a full-blown Jeff Goldblum looking fly. When we called the restaurant to complain, they were minimally apologetic and tried to pin it on Postmates. If anything, they were accusatory as if I was lying about it (what a brilliant scam idea - except it isn't). Their "generous" offer was to replace the salad if we brought it in to prove there was a fly. Keep your salad, La Larva. I will not be patronizing your unhygienic and service-devoid establishment anymore after 30+ so-so years of doing so. And looking at your 2.0 Yelp average, I'm guessing most others will soon join me.

W D.

Yelp
F*ck this place. Twice the price. Twice the lettuce. Half the toppings. This is what happens when we sacrifice quality for convenience. You ruined one of my favorite places since a child.

Yelp
RIPPED OFF & INSULTED We have been going to La Scala for almost 30 years. BH location & Brentwood location for dinning in & take out. When they closed Brentwood & opened Santa Monica we started going there. Usually twice a month when we were in neighborhood. A few weeks ago, I picked up my usual Chopped salads. When I got home, I found they had made one of the salads with cucumber instead of the turkey I ordered. My son has a aversion to cucumbers & we had to trash his salad. I called & was told they were closed but if I could stop by, I would receive credit. I went in for a new order of a few salads as well as some pastas and soup. I was told instead of credit for the salad that was ruined I could pay for a new salad & they would throw in the turkey. I was shocked & asked to speak to someone in charge. To my dismay it took 3 requests for the chef manager to come out. I explained the situation as well as the fact that I'm a long-time customer. As well I was going to place a order for over a $100, He said that I was at fault for not going thru the order & was probably making the whole thing up. I asked again "are you willing to lose me as well as my family & friends as customers?" His response was" that was my problem". I left placed an order with another restaurant and enjoyed my meal. In today's world you should not support restaurants that have poor service.

Erin K.

Yelp
Why are they even called La Scala if I can't get a normal chop with salami?!?! Also rude and hung up after putting me on hold 2 times. It use to be my favorite spot when it was the OG location but these operators don't know what they are doing. Blew it!!!!!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Donna M.

Yelp
This is mostly a "shout out" COMPLIMENT for the excellent service I received from an employee, Willie (who answers the phone). I screwed up my DoorDash order & hoped that by calling I could get it fixed. The friendly, accommodating gentleman who answered the phone (you can hear the smile in his voice) took care of my request immediately and ever so politely. It was such a joy today to enjoy my favorite salad - exactly as I want it - and have a pleasant interaction with a busy someone over the phone! THANK YOU, WILLIE! And, of course, thank you to La Scala (from a loyal customer of about 48 years). So many meals... so many great memories...
google avatar

Hayley Z.

Yelp
Let me preface this by saying i have gone to the old location of la scala for 20 years. This new concept/location SUCKS!! it's not upscale, it's a walk up counter. Higher prices, seemingly lower portions, no pizza, and apparently no bread either. This restaurant probably thought they would be saving money with a new location and less staff, but really i bet the business won't last. They shot themselves in the foot 100%
google avatar

Yelp
dill in penne alla vodka pasta is so nasty and never should be a thing that is all. chop salad is good chicken is good in it
google avatar

Yelp
These people are the worst. So I'm trying to order for my family and there is no place to put any notes about allergies or whatever in the Uber eats app. So I'm about to order $100 = 2 salad and 2 pastas So I called them. They hang up on me multiple times. I do like their leon salad, but every time I order from them I end up being angry about something rude that they do. No thanks. Looking forward to someone pointing me to a 'better' version of the Leon salads so we can be done with these rude and thankless people.

Yelp
Wow. I've been a customer of the long standing restaurant for over 25 years so it pains me to write this. It is only with the hope that the owners will make much needed changes. They have stripped downs the operation only to give customers less. Less quality service (vanilla cashiers with no customer engagement) Less value. It looks like portions have been reduced by about 1/3 yet the prices are the same. And they don't include bread and butter any more. While there are plenty of individuals and businesses who won't care about these changes it is a shame that this establishment does not value its local community of loyal customers. Why don't you offer a family meal deal. 2 pastas and a salad for a good value price?

a f.

Yelp
I called in to place an order on New Year's Eve at noon time. No one answered the phone. I drove over at 2 o'clock and they were closed without any notice even though the sign on the door and said they close at 3 PM. If you wanna run a business correctly, you should leave a message that you were closed early on New Year's Eve. Luckily, Bristol Farms was next-door and I picked up lunch there. Very poor customer service.
google avatar

Robin V.

Yelp
La Scala restaurant this is not, except for the price. This is an "order at the counter" take away place with a few tables and a counter. You can eat your take away items (in their cardboard containers with plastic cutlery) while sitting at these tables. The price is still about $20 a salad. No great hot bread, no waiter service, no fountain drinks. They have tea and coffee in bottles. Worst part..,. The salad comes with the dressing in the side so it's never fully tossed correctly in the tight cardboard container. I'll skip this spot next time.
