Riad Hotels in the Old Medinas of Morocco

"You can only make a riad hotel so big. But if you’re stuck for size, you can join them together — La Sultana, for example, combines four traditional Marrakchi courtyard mansions into one contiguous complex, and in so doing creates one of the medina’s most complete luxury hotels. All that makes for plenty of space to spread out, and the pools, fountains, courtyards and rooftop terraces are seemingly endless." - Mark Fedeli

"La Sultana combines four traditional Marrakchi courtyard mansions into one contiguous complex, and in so doing creates one of the medina’s most complete luxury hotels. In some towns 28 rooms and suites would still fall decidedly on the small side, but here numbers like that make La Sultana one of the biggest players in town." - Tablet Hotels

La Sultana Marrakech | Best places to stay in Marrakech

"A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, this is one of Marrakech’s most sumptuous properties – a handful of riads remodelled into one opulent complex, creating five courtyards around which rooms and suites are arranged. The architecture and interiors are some of the Medina’s most ornate, with intricate stuccowork, detailed wooden carvings and richly decorative tiles. The dark wood, medieval brickwork, and terracotta and crimson walls lend it a warmth some other riads don’t have. Just being in the hammam is an experience. An ornate traditional bathhouse, decorated in floor-to-ceiling pink marble, Oriental lanterns, with multiple columns, trickling water features, and even a crackling fireplace – it’s authentic and atmospheric. Abundant amenities and mod cons will leave you wanting for nothing. It’s also close to the key sights, making it ideal for a first visit. " - Mandy Sinclair

Saida, Ghizlane, and Mohammed really made a difference in the experience and made the trip really special for us as we were celebrating a special occasion. La Sultana Marrakech absolutely blew me away. From the moment we arrived, the service, setting, and attention to detail were on a completely different level. The staff are warm, intuitive, and genuinely hospitable — the kind of service where they anticipate what you need before you even realize it yourself. Every interaction felt personal and effortless. The hotel itself is stunning. The architecture, the riad-style layout, the rooms, the rooftop… everything is beautifully designed and meticulously maintained. Our room was luxurious, serene, and full of thoughtful touches that made the stay feel special. The rooftop breakfast and the views over the city were unforgettable. I’ve stayed in many luxury hotels around the world, and La Sultana is genuinely the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. It’s peaceful, romantic, and perfectly located — close to the action but still feeling like a private oasis. If you’re coming to Marrakech and want true 5-star luxury with exceptional service, this is the place. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

One of the most amazing experience that our family had! Starting with the beautiful complex of La Sultana Riad, with its fountain, swimming pool, jacuzzi in the hotel patios. ||As we arrived, the welcome was warm and professional, making us feel genuinely cared for rather than simply checked in. Sweets and hand towels were offered immediately.||Each room was immaculate, exquisite designed, and thoughtfully appointed — combining comfort, luxury, different styles and functionality. Every detail, from the quality of the linens, little touches, sweets, to the complimentary gifts, reflected a commitment to excellence.|The service throughout our stay was outstanding. The staff was attentive, discreet, and always ready to help with a smile and genuine kindness. It’s rare to encounter a team so perfectly balanced between professionalism and warmth.|The common areas and amenities were equally impressive, offering a refined atmosphere. Breakfast and dining were delicious, and the rooftop bar was a highlight!||The SPA was a peaceful and beautiful environment, it was an escape from a busy day, great option for any Marrakesh visitor! |La Sultana is not just a hotel, is an experience, a GREAT ONE! Hope to return soon, very soon!!

We stayed at La Sultana in Marrakesh with our family this fall, and we absolutely loved it. The beauty of the riad was matched by the wonderful and kind people working within it. The staff were attentive, warm and welcoming hosts, always smiling and treating our 2 girls like princesses! There were extra touches everywhere. The riad is gorgeous with the finest details and decor throughout. The food was outstanding, hamam available in the stunning spa on site. The rooftop bar was beautiful with lush greenery everywhere. We will certainly visit again! To the staff- Thank you again for making our stay so special and for your kindness to our family! We truly enjoyed it and it will be a cherished memory for us forever!!!

Fabulous and traditional place to stay when in Marrakech.|I have been coming to La Sultana a few times during the past 10 years. Never disappointed. Each room is unique, service is great and food is delicious. I have the most beautiful memories in La Sultana and looking forward to many more. A special and warm thank you to Mme Saida and the team. They made our accommodation as pleasant and|efficient as it can be.

Such a beautiful hotel and the service is impeccable. The rooms are lovely and well decorated. Toiletries smell wonderful. In fact the whole hotel smells wonderful. I also had lost a diamond earring which the room cleaner found and left on the counter for me. The food is some of the best we had in Marrakech. I highly recommend this hotel.

La Sultana is a beautiful boutique five star Riad. The rooms, the service, the food, the amenities are first class. I highly recommend staying here. Great location, very clean and quiet. For the price - excellent value! All the rooms are lovely and as a small hotel it is not overrun with people. If you're looking for a romantic, intimate, luxurious stay in Marrakech, this is the place.

We had dinner with friends at the restaurant — we were only visiting and did not stay at the hotel. The place is absolutely gorgeous; a must-see location. The food was good, but the service left a lot to be desired. Our waiter, a man with eyeglasses, kept pouring wine into our glasses over and over, almost as if he was trying to finish the bottle quickly so we would order another one. When I asked why he was filling the glass past a proper serving level — which is not how wine should be served — he responded with a silly joke about filling the water glass only 1 cm. Overall: stunning location, good food, but terrible service.

Main issue: front door guard – suspected taxi scam We had a great evening with cocktails on the rooftop followed by dinner in the restaurant. The cocktails were excellent, and the roast lamb shoulder was really tender and flavourful. Most of the staff were attentive, though at times they seemed a bit busy and forgot things like refilling our glasses or checking something for us. Since it’s a 5-star hotel, I had high expectations, and the service felt a bit below what I’d expect compared to other 5-star hotels. Still, overall, it was a nice experience. The main issue happened when we were leaving. We asked the hotel to book us a taxi to Koutoubia, which is very close to our riad. About five minutes later, they said the taxi had arrived and brought us to the entrance, but there was no taxi there. The guard/doorman insisted on asking for the name of our riad even though we said the taxi could just drop us near Koutoubia (a 6-minute drive). After checking the map for a while, they brought over a taxi from next door. Before getting in, we asked the doorman how much it should cost, as we know some taxis in Marrakech try to overcharge tourists. He reassured us it was a “good price” and urged us to get in. Once we got in the taxi, the driver said it would cost 100 dirhams — which is absurd for a 6-minute trip. We said no and offered 30 dirhams (what we paid earlier that day to go to Jardin Majorelle, which is farther). The driver refused and complained to the doorman, who did nothing to help and instead looked annoyed that we weren’t accepting the price. Conclusion: The restaurant and hotel are still worth visiting, but don’t rely on them to arrange a taxi. There are plenty of taxis outside — just flag one down yourself or use inDrive.
