La Table du Marché

"Owner-chef Stéphane Cuzin has been at the helm of this street corner bistro with a distinctive red façade and a snazzy, modish interior for many years now. It faces Bergerac’s covered market, where Stéphane sources the majority of his ingredients. Creative recipes and unusual seasonings set the tone: tonka, nutmeg, cumin and coffee may underscore veal, spinach or asparagus." - Michelin Inspector

An absolutely unique and unforgettable dining experience. The chef and his team welcome you with an open heart and serves perfectly cooked and seasoned dishes that had us asking for every recipe (and we got them!!) the poached foie gras was a discovery as well as the 14 hour lamb, and a lovely cheese mousse to finish. The team was cheerful and made our evening absolutely perfect.

Beautiful food & extensive wine menu in the heart of Bergerac. Old restaurant with excellent service. If you know your food don’t miss it. Excellent value for money.

We were very lucky to dine at this wonderful restaurant. I organized a dinner for a large group of family and friends (including children) to celebrate a birthday. Chef Cuzin was very flexible and accommodating to the needs and requests of all. The food and service were exceptional. The wine selections were creative and paired wonderfully with the various plates offered during the course of the menu. I would love to return someday and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We had a wonderful meal which was meticulously prepared and a feast for all senses. The lamb was very tender and my sister thoroughly enjoyed the cod with asparagus sauce. The desserts are a work of art and tasted sublime. Front of house were very attentive and informative . We would highly recommend a visit to this very stylish restaurant

We arrived at 7:30 and it was empty, which was not a problem but it was empty until we left and had no atmosphere. Most other restaurants were busy. The waitress was rude throughout our meal and laughed at us in a clearly rude manner (not having fun as their reply says) at multiple occasions despite being as polite as possible. We felt so uncomfortable and wanted to leave quickly so we got one main each and drank our wine quickly. Probably the worst restaurant experience we’ve ever had but at least we’ve had some great times in other restaurants nearby. If you’re English, I’d seriously advise trying elsewhere. Food was fine but not worth the price point. This was not the main problem.

Flawless. Absolutely flawless. Arrived early for our table this week and asked if we could have drinks outside as the sun went down - Stephane so kind to have obliged us and this set the tone for the whole evening. Food and service was utterly superb. Monkfish to start, followed by turbot left us in flavour heaven. Excellent wine list too. Wouldn’t hesitate to return nor recommend to anyone - we loved it.

Absolutely delicious dishes coming out of the kitchen, beautifully presented, from amuse bouche to cafe gourmand. Creative and complex, but the result is harmonious and fulfilling. Service was friendly, cheerful, and impeccable. Good local house wines. Very good.

Yelp
Sat at La Table du Marché for lunch. First came the comte gougères (cheese puffs), which were excellent. Then came the roasted eggplant with pequilos tomato marmalade, chickpeas, drop pepper, and coconut curry ice cream. This was a cold dish that tasted bright but did not stir. The curry ice cream ended up being a nice touch. The blanquette de veau had carrots, bacon, mushroom, and a scattering of scallion slices. The stew came with a side of scented basmati rice. So creamy, so smooth, an immaculate blanquette de veau that I crave every so often and rarely see on any menus. The poached apricot with fleurette escoffier curry, almond milk ice cream, rose water mousse, sesame seed crisps, and flower petals - pretty, not too sweet, and very good. Overall, elegant portion sizes and execution - signs of confidence and skill. 4.5 rounded up.

Yelp
An absolutely outstanding lunch yesterday. Am I also riding high on vacation and bestie reunion vibes? Well, yes. But this place fit right into the mix. Impeccable bilingual service for our French/weary traveling American group. A fresh, bright, intimate restaurant. A kitchen view of big sexy chef getting busy. The 5-course meal was the perfect amount of food for hungry curiosity. Most memorable per my siblings and I: the duck breast. The foie gras with coconut milk, aussi!

Yelp
An unexpected, delightful meal, prepared by the chef within view of our table as his dog looked on. We had a multi-course lunch with wine pairings. The setting was informal and relaxed, the service was friendly and perfect. Very creative dishes and every bite was perfect. Dessert was especially unique - chocolate chips with purple marshmallows and some kind of bites of pastry - sounds odd but it was fun and different. This was a great lunch stop, as we wanted a great meal without a 3-hour ordeal, so we could move on to the wineries nearby - but we found that we didn't want to leave.

Yelp
Go to L'Imparfait instead. We were a party of 4, traveling from London, with confirmed via email bookings for dinner. Upon arrival the rather mentally unbalanced maitre d said no dinner was possible, he was "very tired and needed to check into a hospital," that they were normally closed on Tuesday but had agreed to open only because two very dear clients had insisted. Nothing he could do. He agreed we had a reservation, even pulled it up on his laptop, agreed he could have emailed us to cancel -- but admitted he had not done so. Suggested instead L'Imparfait, a five minute stroll away. Offered no apology and frankly was so strange in appearance and slightly menacing in behavior, we were happy not to stay. Luckily we had a brilliant dinner at L'Imparfait. Upon our return past the restaurant to get to our car we saw a table of 8-10 people alone in the restaurant yucking it up. Not worth the risk of a booking and given the rude and unprofessional behavior of the staff, an absolute embarrassment to the otherwise uniformly pleasant and helpful people we have met during our week long visit to Bergerac. Not even a Michelin 3 star restaurant could get away with behavior like this. Don't encourage their rudeness with your custom.
