La Table - Hôtel Clarance

"In the heart of Lille's old town, this former 18C mansion now houses a restaurant that is well worth a visit. The set menus make the most of meticulously sourced local produce, such as fish caught by small boats, and the hotel's own herb garden. Diners can choose to have their meal in one of the rooms that still brandishes its period wood panelling or in the former library (where one private table awaits at the bottom of the handsome spiral staircase) – the decor cleverly blends heritage features with contemporary design elements. In fine weather, why not dine on the terrace overlooking the wooded grounds? Whichever space you opt to dine in, the service here is professional and attentive." - Michelin Inspector

5 Best Day Trips from Paris | Condé Nast Traveler

"Inside the Clarance Hotel , La Table serves Michelin-starred food in 18th century surroundings. The food is seasonal and hearty, and the chef includes herbs foraged from the garden. Dishes may range from grilled langoustine served with salsify from Dries, fermented black garlic butter, and sage tempura, or Burgaud roasted duck atop stuffed Flanders cabbage. All of it beautifully plated and balanced in flavor (arguably what won the restaurant a Michelin star). The natural light the main dining room lets in is exquisite, but the other dining room is an all-wood library alcove set off in the back of the restaurant. It has an original spiral staircase that leads up to rows of books." - Mary Winston Nicklin, Lindsey Tramuta

The reception was super accommodating and helpful. We brought our baby and they set up a crib and got our room ready early so she could take her nap in the room. Breakfast and dinner were fantastic. There's an elevator that goes to the second floor so we could bring our stroller up easily. The carpet in the room is a bit old and needs a good clean, but this didn't impact our stay at all.

The staff was super professional, kind and helpful. When we asked to change our room, the receptionist kindly went out of her way to show us several. Location is great.||||However:tThis hotel is part of the Relais Chateaux collection. It is expensive. But so-called comfort rooms are definitely not comfortable. Ours was perched on the top floor of a “dependance”, and, to access it, one had to take a small elevator just next to a public toilet, go to the second floor, then climb a steep stair with very narrow steps. The room was okay, but with very low ceilings – a disappointment, having spent about 350 euros a night. Unfortunately, the other rooms shown to us by the very kind receptionist were not better – a possible sign the entire “comfort” category is overpriced and definitely not up to Relais Chateaux standards. Also, I asked for porridge for breakfast and got it – however, it was done in a microwave and as a result had the texture of a rubbery lump, again something surprising for a hotel at that level.||

We very much enjoyed our stay. The room was quiet, spacious and very comfortable. The overall presentation of the hotel is excellent. No doubt, Clarance Hotel is the best address in Lille.

We stayed at this hotel for a weekend trip to Lille and were very satisfied. The location is truly ideal: you can walk straight from the hotel into the lively shopping area, and restaurants and sights are all within walking distance. Perfect for a short city break when you want everything close by.

We celebrated our wedding with friends and family and couldn’t be happier. The venue was beautiful, the food and wine were impeccable, and the staff were warm, professional, and never uptight. We truly loved our stay.

Terrible experience! Never coming back. This was our fourth visit in three years, and it will be the last. The change of chef is obvious — and not for the better. We ordered the monkfish tandoori: completely over-spiced, unpleasant, and not at all what you’d expect from La Table du Clarance. The dessert? Not even worth mentioning — a total disappointment. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place.

Be careful when booking, no flexibility or support for the customer that may need to make changes. We booked to go to The Clarence in Lille and our Eurostar was cancelled. Even though this was not our fault the hotel refused to help, would not even move dates. We booked a non refundable rate which we understand. But when circumstances outside our control happen I would expect a hotel of this reported service level would try to support the customer.

Very friendly and professional staff. Always available and pro active. Nice characteristic hotel with a combination of classic and modern decoration. Highly recommended. Note: parking rates are expensive.
